The Lobster

I love this scent. Ugh. It’s so unique and so weird. It’s marine but not like you think. It’s the docks, it’s crusty salt, it’s algae. It’s the warmth and funk of the summer Atlantic but the coolness of the storm overhead. It has most of its really weird notes up front. Then it dries to a skin scent that is so gentle and soft. My only frustration is that it doesn’t last forever and the projection is lost after about an hour. It’s weird and NOT safe for blind buying. It’s a very niche fragrance so sample first and certainly sample on skin.

The person who said beetroot absolutely nailed it, but for me the strength of that fades pretty quickly and turns to sweet wild fennel, celery, and sea salt water. Not just sea salt and not just sea water, but both together. Love the cedar and arnica dry down, and I just adore this fragrance. Fresh and elegant without being sharp or high maintenance. A cool, early summer day on the Oregon coast.

I was reading some reviews and I was a little afraid of this one. I was expecting kelp, algae and salt but this was may more medicinal in the opening. To me it smells more herbal and green, I get pine and cedar. The dry down is soft and pleasant. Sweet woods, floral, musky and a little minty. Contrasting and interesting. I think this is really cool 👍

One of fave scents!!! It’s a bolder green fragrance. I love the freshness paired with the animalic notes. This is a fragrance that I’ve worn on plenty of date nights and lasts all night. I personally enjoy wearing this fragrance in the colder months but can see how it could be nice for an outing on a spring evening. Very crisp.

I just adore this perfume. When I wear it, I feel as though I am laying face down in a puddle of mud in the middle of the forest. It's incredibly grounding and intriguing at the same time. The Lobster is also a good movie, so it's a win/win. EDIT: I’m not sure what happened, but over time my nose started detecting something chemical/unpleasant and I couldn’t shake that perception. I ended up selling my travel spray. Hopefully this doesn’t happen to you, too — it really is a lovely scent.

Something smells like glue in here. Is it the marine accord? I like quirky scents so I don't mind glue, but if I wanted that scent profile I would've gone for CdG instead.

This is beetroot extravaganza extraordinaire! 🤤🫢😃 How that is not listed as THE main ingredient is baffling to me! It is dreadful and macabre and weird and so damn unique!

off-puttingly green earthy at first but becomes sweet, striking, and somewhat citrusy after

this is really special and unique, smells like wet grass i fell in love as soon as i smelled it but for some reason now i find it nauseating... i don’t really know what it is, probably this falls in an uncanny valley of seeming extremely natural and realistic BUT something is extremely off.. still an incredible one but unwearable for me :/

Smells like seaweed and sea water washed up on a beach. Pleasant smell for memories but I wouldn't wear it 🤣

Interesting! With the opening, this is brighter than I expected. What follows is a heavy dose of what I recognize as (I think) cashmeran, with its angular, damp, and somewhat dark woodiness. It settles down quickly, and then I get a lightly tickling, green, semi-spicy ivy-like note. There are some gentle fresh spring water facets underneath. After a few minutes it all blends together quite cohesively. A camphorous touch (arnica?) plays well with the alleged cashmeran which remains present, now with what I feel like is a citrus-like maybe bergamot-ish note in support. At this point it is still green, but not overtly so. This is not a linear and obvious green, but a green nonetheless. I get some mineralic and lightly salty elements as well, possibly ambergris(?) which conjures an image of rock or soil. I like the frequency at which this is buzzing, substantial but not heavy, feels more on the restrained side in terms of projection. There are some plant-y terpennic qualities in this as well. In the background, a touch of something sour and fuzzy (animalic note?) that bridges the space between what I interpreted as cashmeran and ambergris. Deeper into the drydown I'm getting a texture that reminds me of late-stage Bergamote 22 by Le Labo. Some other scents that come to mind for me while smelling this include Haze by Akro, B612 by Nishane, Apsu by Ulrich Lang, Ocean Water by Beach Geeza. These scents are all VERY different and The Lobster is entirely different than all of them of course. Intriguing, but also friendlier than I imagined, though ultimately The Lobster is not for me.

This is one of my favourite scents for rainy weather. Somehow it captures what it feels like to touch some moss in a cold forest after a full torrent, with dirty mulch of old leaves and earth and worms (yes worms) under the feet, a stale lake somewhere not too far away, and this complete thick greenness of a wild northern wood. The green note and the earthy note are the strongest for me, and I really have not smelled a better and deeper green perfume. On me it can get sharp and cold, especially if I wear it in the summer when it gets hot, but I do love it and am on my second bottle.

I know this description is a bit left-field, but the initial hit of this, particularly on the tester, reminds me strongly of raw corn- like when you're shucking or barely cook corn on the cob. Not the same sort of green as many of my other 'green' fragrances. There's also a definite cedar note, but not too masculine, and I get the 'water' accords, plus something I can't put my finger on, maybe the arnica? Its blessedly unique, unlike many fragrances, but on me, the sillage is so low, even right after application, I have to wrist-to-nose to get any hit of it.

The Lobster is a very strange and wonderful film and so it is not surprising that this is a strange fragrance. I find it quite difficult to describe. There's a note of wild fennel which is dominant to me, but I suspect that is because it is something I have often smelled on long walks by the bay. Murky waters. Kelp drying on a beach. Wet silt. But it is also a pleasant and not shocking fragrance. Wearable, oddly enough, given how strange it is. I'm really curious about the others in this series.

Here's another one I was hoping would be my Sea Water HG, but failed. I wanted that kelpy, true seashore scent, but no. In the beginning, I do get saltwater-soaked wood with some greenness, but it doesn’t quite read kelp or sappy green like other reviews got. Mostly I get a peppery old wood with heavy salt smell. Sadly, on dry down, it’s salted celery all the way. Made me kinda want lunch early.

An achievement of a natural, refreshing, attractive and non-synthetic aquatic. It lands, however, quite specifically on the scent of a celery stalk - albeit one that’s been freshly-cut and briefly used to stir a gin & tonic.
