Mon Oasis

I almost didn't sample this one as I didn't intend to choose it when I ordered samples of the line but through my own error, I have the sample, and it was fateful as I'm finding this one speaking to me the most. I think the name is fitting. It's not the typical fantasy island white floral. It's got a tropical atmosphere, but it's a rustic nook rather than a resort. The lavender and jasmine stand out to me initially, with the lavender smelling like it's freshly plucked and crushed in your fingers. The jasmine is more of a frangipani to me. As this moves into the heart, I have an impression of a horse stable nearby giving it a warm, earthy, slightly animalic tone. The base is sweet /salty- maybe the tobacvo and vetiver. Wherever the place is that inspired this perfume, I'd like to go there. Wearing this perfume transports me there for a bit while my feet are on the ground in a concrete jungle.

This was the one from the house I was most excited for as I love almost every note involved, but it actually ended up being my 5th favorite based on just how much it pleased me. The one I was least excited for, De Toma a Zouma, ended up being my favorite and I believe it a masterpiece. Just goes to show don't judge a fragrance based on notes! Although this was my 5th favorite... it has actually been used the most after owning every fragrance from the house. This tells me it is the most wearable and fits most situations from your options from motif olfactif. Its a very comfortable scent and I would classify it as a perfectly unisex floral vetiver. The pear and yuzu soften up the edges from lavender and the sandalwood and vetiver keep things very mellow. Jasmine holds everything together nicely. A nice entry you can wear any day and smell different and nice.

Update: Sept 28, 2023 I got a second sample of this and realized that either the first sample I had contained a toned down jasmine/white floral accord or that my nose simply didn't register what was already there. Upon first spray, the jasmine is strong in this...it later shifts to the accords I talk about below...but it takes maybe 30 or so minutes to move away from the jasmine...you have to be okay with white florals to appreciate this scent. =================================== Purchased the debut discovery set of samples which had all scents except for Vetu de Vert & Huaka'i. Given that these are sample vials, no comment will be made on sillage or projection. Mon Oasis I find this to be the most versatile of the bunch. Has a signature-scent, all year-round quality to it. It's not a linear scent by any means. It starts sweet & rather feminine leaning with the pear and yuzu (it's actually sweeter than Nectar Boise). At this stage, I believe it's more suited to a classy, mature woman over the age of 25. As it develops past the 15min mark, it starts to get darker, more earthy & more masculine. The notes say there's hay and tobacco along with cedar & musk - whatever it is, it develops like a fougere where it goes from bright to earthy over its scent life. So, yes, this could be considered Motif Olfactif's rendition of a fougere except that the contents are a little unorthodox. These scents are artisanal in nature - they don't smell close to anything a designer house or a well-known niche house would put out. In other words, they smell very natural, even raw at times. With that comes a lot of character which is worth exploring as you can sense that the self-taught perfumer (much respect to Mr. OZ!) has a signature feel to all of his scents. That also means you can't blind buy these - you must sample them first. Main highlight for me = straddles the line between wearability and complexity very well; although I'm not a big fan of the sweet opening, what the scent develops into later on is well put together On a rating scale of: Dislike Neutral Like Love Mon Oasis = Like YT Channel - The Scentrovert

My third from the new Motif Olfactif is Mon Oasis, a woody, fresh, green blend of lavender, vetiver, oakmoss, hay, tobacco, musk, cedar, and sandalwood. I suppose it’s the yuzu note, additionally (perhaps the pear, too), that gives Mon Oasis such a lift but the heart of it mainly seems to be a green/woody/semi-earthy blend. It’s definitely idiosyncratic, as there’s a “green vetiver” vibe that’s unfamiliar, as most of the fresher vetiver fragrances I’m familiar with (Guerlain Vetiver, Roja Vetiver Extrait, even Gallivant Berlin) are fresh because of citrus notes, which are completely absent from Mon Oasis. So while Mon Oasis is fresh, it’s not a freshie. I estimate that the hay creates an interesting base, too, something divergent from the more familiar vetiver and tobacco notes; something animalic, spicy, earthy. Like the other fragrances from the line I’ve tried, Mon Oasis is fairly dense, too. There’s not an airiness to it, and I generally like denser fragrances, myself—less juice required, and longer-lasting. This seems to be perform well, to that point. Mon Oasis is concentrated at 24%, EDP, and is priced at $130 for 50ml, like the other EDP offerings in the line. As far as I know, the line is only sold on the house website for the time being. Regardless of taste / scent profile, Mon Oasis seems like it has the quality that I’ve now come to expect from the line after sampling a couple of its offerings over the past week. In the case of Mon Oasis in particular, I enjoy its quirkiness and it ranks high as far as uniqueness because the yuzu/pear, though I’m not certain it’s something I would reach for often. It could definitely be a more unique alternative to other vetiver fragrances, though, for example. 7 out of 10

The most realistic lavender fragrance on the market. It smells like you're just rolling around in a field of it which if you love lavender is awesome, if you're not a fan of lavender obviously steer far clear.
