Dark Oud

Dark Oud has attracted curiosity among frangranceheads always on the lookout for a sleeper oud. The bad news, this isn't it. The good news? It's a sleeper incense! Dark Oud is built on the same Nag Champa accord as discontinued incense classics Donna Karan Black Cashmere and YSL Nu, lending it a family resemblance to both but taken in an unequivocally masculine direction. Here the frangipani and sandalwood incense is built on a base of leather and cognac infused pipe tobacco. I smell like a Cormac McCarthy novel, like Al Swearengen. And at least for the opening, I smell exactly like Bond No. 9 Andy Warhol Silver Factory, right down to that difficult to place, off-putting but intriguing, plastic effect. Deadwood would be a better name than Dark Oud or, better yet, Dead Ringer.

This seems terribly feeble for an EDP. There is a LOT of alcohol on the first whiff (also curious for an EDP). I would say it's at best an EDT, although most I've used perform better than this. As for the scent itself, it's sort of a Black Afgano Lite. Less bold and definitely less rounded. I think the bottle + cap are telling that this is supposed to be a version of BA, and this would be great if it had any power.

I opened my closet looking for some cheapies to use as a hand sanitizer, gladly I found this. Performance it weak which is great as a hand sanitizer.
