Angel Etoile Mystique

Pure heaven!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have it! I actually was on Angel night , and i won it !!!We get together in The Bay store (store in canada) and it is a special night of Thierry Mugler fragrances.This was the top prize ! Simply delicious!!!!!

First off, I confess that I'm not a big fan of the original Angel EDP. It's a fragrance that I love to smell on others, but find overwhelming on my own skin. So, I set out to add one of the extrait editions to my collection. My experience has been that extraits are much gentler and closer to the skin, and that makes challenging fragrances more wearable to me. And Etoile Mystique is certainly more wearable. At first I wasn't convinced that it was really an extrait, it seemed a bit TOO gentle and close to the skin. Or maybe my bottle had simply been stored improperly and the fragrance inside had degraded. A disappointing risk you take when dealing in vintage and discontinued fragrances (it was bottled in '03 after all...) But, after a few minutes on the skin, the fragrance started to develop and all of the lovely gourmand notes listed in the description are there. It really is quite boozy. And I find the cherry note to be very prominent. The patchouli note from original Angel only shows up late into the drydown, almost as an afterthought. The amber tones down the foody notes a bit and places it in the Oriental category. It's smooth and rich and sweet and intoxicating. Lasting power is good, sillage is low. This isn't a room filler. It's a fragrance that carries close to your body all day, like a cashmere scarf. Very typical of an extrait. The bottle is exquisite. A massive chunk of purple glass with a metal stopper that's all points, angles, and simplistic design. No bling or extra foolishness here. A beautiful display piece.

I've had this for a few years now. Out of many Angel versions I have, this is the most complicated one to wear. It's the dirtiest Angel I had a chance to smell to date. The last time I wore it, husband and I went to purchase a sport bike from a very rich guy, and even though we were standing in front of his mansion, outside, all you could smell was this perfume, emanating from my neck and smelling like I tried to cover 10 day old body odor with some sugary perfume I found in the back of my closet. I have never been that embarrassed in my life. I haven't worn it outside since then, but I did wear it a few times around the house, just for me. I don't think my husband is a fan either. The bottle is gorgeous, mine came with crystals all around it. However, it's huge, difficult to hold and it's a dab on perfume, despite of its huge size. I feel like it should have been a spray instead. Anyways, that is my experience with it. I am glad to have it, but this bottle will last me a lifetime.

In a word, stunning. Etoile Mystique leaps away from the original Angel's blast of patchouli, fruits, and - at times, on certain people - sickly-sweet aroma. Initially, Mystique opens with a beautiful and controlled vanilla that is balanced with amber, honey and very slight hints of the cognac to come. Sweet, yes, but not at all overpowering. Soon, after about two hours, the magic really begins. Mystique warms up and truly releases the satisfying cognac and caramel, along with the cherry. Absolutely incredible. This scent is rich and developed, with no single note spoiling another. It's boozy but not "alcoholic" and intrigues with sensuality. Lasts and lasts, never spoils, and never fails to satisfy. One of my favourite interpretations of Angel. A family member owns one of these precious bottles - I've been guilty of dousing myself on occasion. Not once have I regretted doing so, and I don't think I ever will.
