Angel Glamorama

following the advice of @Forbiddenjade, i snagged a bottle of glamorama to try after i had settled down with and learned to love angel in her current iteration, as you always hear legends of what once was when it comes to these icons. i already loved angel so much, i just HAD to know what the "real" angel smelled like. i didn't even get into perfumes in earnest until angel had already been reformulated to its current state, so i really had no clue what i was missing, nor the everlasting love and chokehold nostalgia of those who have known angel since her true heyday. again, it bears repeating that i love the current angel and have left her an extremely favorable review. she continues to be complex and alluring enough that i had a memorable journey towards coming to understand and appreciate her, and she's made a permanent home in my collection. however. anyone saying you need to experience the original angel to know what she was REALLY about, to lose yourself in the fullest extent of her magic... they were kinda right about that one, i can't lie. this thing is STUPID beautiful. where the newer version requires a little wrestling with the bright, strong patchouli to understand and appreciate its place in this concoction, glamorama bursts straight out of the gate deep, dark and warm. you don't have to wait for her to ripen and reveal her chocolate and honey to you--it's all there all the time, lounging languidly with the patchouli rather than sheepishly following it out. it's not so blended that it becomes homogenous and carries no progression, not by a long shot--it makes me realize why people sometimes describe masterful fragrances as symphonies. there are no flat, off-key notes or lone instruments that drone on and on without accompaniment, but rather a full orchestra hitting every crystal clear high note on one end, rounding out those rich, chest-deep basses on the other, and nailing everything in between. this angel is lovelier, darker, and deeper in every way. sillage and longevity outlast current angel for sure, but to be honest, it doesn't seem to do so by a longshot--at least on my skin, but i've long known my skin to not be very habitable to even the most impressive performers. most scents will need to be reapplied on me after around hour 4, whereas glamorama held on until around hour 6. i wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if this could barrel through an entire day on someone whose skin holds onto perfume nicely. this also becomes a little dirtier on me, which i actually really like--i sort of had to hunt for that dirty, sensual note i heard others speak of in angel when i used the current formula, but this one is not shy about making itself known. not loudly, like harsh waves of BO, but intimately and close to the skin. if you're the kind of person who wouldn't mind bottling up just a touch of the scent of your lover's armpit after a romp to add to a deep, sensual gourmand to round it out, you'll know what i'm talking about. will i be sad when i inevitably use up this entire bottle? yes. will my first move be to look for another one? of course. will i be devastated if i can't find one and have to just run to ulta to grab a bottle of our current angel? not really. like i say, i love her! but my GOD is glamorama coveted mistress status. i suggest following the same advice i did and hunting down a bottle of this if you like angel--definitely worth the experience.

This is definitely a different Angel! It is not the same as the newer Angel. In short: Blue Bottle Angel is sugary and dense, but more 'tropical' with a pronounced vegetal and earthy patchouli and a fruit salad accord. Not very pastry-like. Glamorama is sweet and warm, with a darker tobacco-like honey-patchouli and pastry-like chocolate-cotton candy. Fruits are very subdued. Glamorama is nuclear-strength, while Angel is slightly more polite. Glamorama is all of the dessert notes in Angel cranked up to 100. Intense and velvety chocolate and cotton candy; dripping with honey. The patchouli is surprisingly not as bitter, vegetal, and musky as it is in Angel. Glamorama's patch is much more akin to 90% cacao chocolate. The combination of patch and thick honey gives the impression of fine tobacco, almost resulting in a Tobacco Vanille accord, but with the musky-sugary tint of honey rather than vanilla. In contrast to the deserts, Glamorama's fruits are subdued. I smell mostly berries and melon, but they are soft and only support the dessert notes. In addition, Glamorama is quite warm. Although Angel is also a warm scent, Glamorama has a radiating heat that laces all the delicious notes. Almost like cinnamon buns fresh from the oven. Glamorama can be approximated by taking Angel Etoile des Reves (preferably, as it is more chocolatey) or maybe the Gravity Star (less fruity) and adding Alkemia Miel de Sauvage et Tabac, which hits the amber-honey portion of Glamorama quite well. Another note: wearing Glamorama has somehow allowed me to pick up greater complexity in regular Angel. I can smell more honey and tonka now.

I KNOW Angel :) It has been the ONLY fragrance that I have never been without since 1994! Bottle after bottle. Other scents come and go into my life/collection but Angel is a permanent fixture! Up until a few years ago, 1-2 sprays would give me almost all day of compliments and joy. IFRA reformulations really, really hurt Angel's longevity and sillage! Being fair and thank god, the scent still was the same or so close to the original, that I was ok. But man....I can use 7-10 sprays and Angel is not overwhelming! Back in the 90s or first 10 years of the 2000s....more than 2 sprays of Angel, and you could knock some people unconscious, LOL! Enter Angel Glamorama!! Smells just like "regular" Angel, BUT...this lasts so much longer. It is very, very close to how Angel used to be. A couple of sprays and it is still there hours and hours later. My amazing husband has now found me 3 more bottles, since he knows how much I love Angel. I have at least 50 bottles of fragrance, and to this day, Angel is still the only one he asks me to wear. He likes TF Tobacco Vanille on me (I have the giant 8oz decanter), but Angel is just me!! Even our now almost 12 year old son has told me many times, that I always smell the same and he loves it!!

I finally got my hands on a bottle of this stellar, divine mixture. It IS what the original was about. The chocolate and patchouli here are so well worked in an accord that there's no rough edges. The melon note always shined on me and here it shows at opening and sits at the back after an hour, to support the core duo - just mentioned above. The honey note seems to spark as glaze, and I love it. This is what the original formula smelled like. Longevity and projection on my skin are nuclear: 1 spritz stays on 48 hours despite shower and projects at 2 feet. As someone mentioned in a review, Angel is one of those perfumes that chooses you, rather than be chosen. I'm one of the lucky chosen and that's why Angel is my signature since its launch on the market. There's nothing alike it out there, nothing which can enrapture as much both senses and mind. I love how this scent takes me onto a journey, into its suave embrace. Angel is a dimension in its own right. If you love Angel and patchouli, hunt a bottle!

I bought this Glamorama and the 2013 version parfum liqueur on the same day online without know them. This Glamorama on my skin was very good, the opening is the same as the regular Angel but spending a few minutes I could feel a camphor note and a smell that reminded me coke bubbling in the glass. very good silage, optimal longevity and completely unisex.
