Angel Sunessence Ocean d'Argent

Light, clean, and fresh iteration of TM Angel with the redundancies that those who love Angel come to expect from all the flankers: the signature patchouli, honey, sweet vanilla. Sunessence has none of the darkly-sparkly experience of the original, but offers the promising addition of crisp florals and salty aqua notes on top of the Angel blueprint. Sunessence is very pretty and feminine in a wearable-daily, non-challenging way, and its fragrance rises and sets on the superficial level; the marine and floral qualities floating above an erstwhile depth and missing wow factor of the anchor notes of the original Angel scent - here downplayed to allow its sun to shine. It boasts a balsam-green note at the heart that is, at least on me, exactly like the composition of Clairol's Herbal Essence shampoo. This is an interesting side journey, but it doesn't quite allow the Angel to fly to its oceanic destination; I am never quite transported to the silvery sea the name suggests. Poor longevity, about half an hour, next to zero sillage, but then I am wearing it on a grim snow day as a pick me up to anticipate warmer days ahead, and in this way, the fragrance serves its purpose well - if for an all too brief moment.

Angel Sunessence Ocean d'Argent is my third Angel I have tried and probably the only one I dare to wear regularly. The overall scent is quite simple but very interesting. The first blast is juicy kumquat with a nice ocean essense; making it's fruity, rich, and slightly minerally salty. The floral bouquet is very pleasant, soft, and not too feminine that a guy couldn't wear it. The sweetness from vanilla comes on a bit milky almond-like sweet. And how can I forget to mention patchouli, which is in just about all of Theirry Mugler's fragrances. Patchouli is noticeable/bearable; definitely not too overwhelming. The whole effect is sweet, sunkissed, very rich summery but without being truly aquatic and light. This may not be everyone's ideal, but it sure is very captivating, and I find myself wear this quite often, except when it's really to hot to wear anything scented. The longevity is. Hit or miss for me, and I am not sure why. Sometimes it lasts 2-3 hours, and sometimes it lasts all day.

As a devotee of the 'softer' marine and summer fragrances PLUS a perfume-life long Thierry Mugler fan (yes I LOVED Womanity!) I had to grab a sample of this one as soon as I could. Now, I work with a girl who wears Coco every day and have to admit that, although not a Chanel fan, I'm attracted to something slightly masculine woodsy that comes out in Coco. Silver Ocean, or Ocean d'Argent has this same slightly masculine edge and relates to the original Angel in the same way as (I find) Coolwater Woman and Coolwater. Not to say this smells like an aftershave, as the ever present vanilla-chocolate of Angel wins through and imparts a creamier note, but Od'A has a freshness in the opening notes that will probably shock Angel inner circle-rs. Rest assured though that the sexier, softer Angel notes are still there and come through like cocoa butter on sun-warmed skin. My new absolute favourite, fast becoming a new signature scent for me. Holds it's own in the boardroom, bar room or bedroom.

Wow, this is so much better than the recent Angel releases! It's actually similar enough to the OG to qualify as a flanker, but has a character of its own. Strong, juicy, mouthwatering citrus, mixed with that Angel sweetness to almost force you into visualizing an ice-cold lemonade on a steaming, hot day, cicadas screaming in the background. Longevity is stellar, 12+ hours on skin and even longer on clothes. I wish this was still available, I barely found the two 1ml samples that I did and I'm already almost done with them. I can still get Sunessence Legere so I'll have to take the risk and get that one blindly, hoping that it's similar enough to this one.

Citrusy, warm, and quite salty...I love it! Very much an ocean fragrance that reminds me of summer days near the sea. Quite unique, although it is much lighter than the original Angel and therefore I would say more wearable. The initial spray smells a bit like the original Angel, as you can pick up on the patchouli scent along with that strong gourmand honey-vanilla accord. However, it soon morphs into a salty, juicy kumquat scent with some warm vanilla and spiciness to round it out. I love this fragrance more each time I wear it. Of all the fragrances I own, this one probably draws more compliments than any other.

I think it's a great choice for this summer. It is sweet, but with a twist. Thanks to the salty ingredients it feels like an ocean breeze. The kumquat is great, it makes the fragrance very fresh, sunny and optimistic. Then it mingles with the sea salt and some flowery mixture, and gets sweetened by vanilla. I don't get much patchouli in this one, and I'm glad that I don't since it would make the fragrance a little too heavy for summer daytime. All in all, I feel like walking along the sea shore of a distant tropical island when wearing this perfume, esp on extremely hot days. *****

I don't own the original Angel, but this one i wanna have. The color and design of the bottle got my attention at the perfumery today. I've tried it on my wrist and ... o my god, i keep smelling it like crazy. Can't stop! Soooo delicious. Mmmmmm... Update: I've bought it and I absolutely love it. Very special scent. Mmm yummy

This perfume is a marvel, nothing like Angel, I would say that there is a similarity to Eau de Star. The sea scent and flora notes are there. The patchouli and vanilla are definitely in control because the other notes quickly disappear and leave me with the remaining 2 notes. A beautiful light scent.

Loving this!! It smells like chocolate thinned out by sunshine with salt water taffy thrown in with a dash of lemon. Rich yet light with a dash of citrus........ Summer all the way!!

A very refreshing fragrance, not as loud and dramatic as the original Angel. If you want to wear angel, but you ain't into strong scents, then I suggest you try this one....

This angel smells so good. i love it. I personally love thierry muglers parfumes and this is one of my favorites! i also love the origanal angel and ailen. Awesome perfume!

Fresh, subtle, not quite feminine but not quite masculine, pleasant, long-lasting without being cloying.....YUM, AHHHH, PERFECT:)

As I just said on my Bleu Lagon review, it's taken me a while to review this one because the two are so similar. I really prefer this one to Bleu Lagon. This one needs to be handled a bit more carefully--I can get away with spraying Bleu Lagon on my skin, but I have to spray this one on a cotton ball and THEN dab it on my skin. My first test of it was a nightmare--I accidentally doused my wrist in it and gave myself a headache (and it stank up my sweater). The next time, I used the cotton ball and dabbed it on the inside of my elbows--much better! This one starts with candied kumquat, and if I only spray it on my wrists, that's ALL I GET. If I dab it on my elbows, I will get the "salt" and patchouli in the middle of that after about 2 hours. I really wanted something salty, and this one DOES have salt. Ironically, if I put too much on, I won't get the salt. The lasting power and intensity are superior to Bleu Lagon. It will even last through a swim or a shower. If you want a shortcut to the salt notes, spray it on and then swim or shower--the salt is all that's left. I hope next year's flanker will keep the SALT! UPDATE August 18, 2011: I have really been having trouble getting this one to be salty lately. We have been having a rather cool summer where I am--maybe it can only be salty in the heat, or when I have been running around doing things and sweating. I'm not sure what's going on with it--I guess my body chemistry could be doing strange things, too.

On me this is just a much lighter version of Angel, very heavy on the patchouli, I'm unfortunatly getting no kumquat, I really would have like some fruit added into this, I'm getting no salty note either which I was looking forward to smelling, it sounded interesting. In the drydown I'm still getting fairly heavy patchouli and some vanilla but that's about it. Sillage is very light and close to the skin, I can't smell it a foot from my wrist. I like plain old Angel better and Angel Innocent MUCH better. 4/10

Salted fruit, a watery breeze, and a wisp of patchouli. It evoked images of sipping fruity beverages at a water park or at a pool-side bar in some tropical locale. For those who felt the patchouli notes were just too much in Eau de Star, this one may be more preferable, although I find Ocean d'Argent saltier. It's also fruitier, but overall the fragrance feels much too sheer in this cool weather. I am looking forward to re-testing it during hotter days.

Update: I think this perseverance has paid off! It's best enjoyed on a slightly warm muggy day. If it rains and/or gets wind, that's all the better I guess. Mind you, it could be that my chemistry's a bit more used to the scent or that the fragrance gets better the further down the bottle you go (unlikely?!) It's still very light - even more so than Escada's signature - but it is way more interesting on me now [having worn it for a couple of hours]. Sniffing through my long-sleeved top, I can detect a very very soft salty note, with some fruit and something that smells very slightly like muted, almost sweetly smoky, patchouli. I think I can see why some compare it to a lighter version of Womanity now (kind of)... maybe that itself will have a summer edition next year if it's popular/well liked enough?

I bought this blind because I assumed that the scent in each Sunessence would e the same every year, even if the bottle changed. However, I was disappointed when I got this because it smelt nothing like the 2009 edition to me [One of my all-time favourite scents, thus far]. You can definitely smell the kumquat, but I've foudn that it goes kind of linear and flat very quickly and is all but gone about 5 hours later. The salt water is very subtle. I think I'd have liked it a bit more if they'd used whatever it was that had the salty note in L de Lolita Lempicka. But then, maybe I'm not appreciating how sheer and light it is... perhaps it'd be better for a ridiculously hot, muggy day if you put it in the fridge before using it? I'm going to persevere for a couple more days and see what happens.

I will review this with a simple story. I own angel, and about a million other perfumes. I have been on a perpetual hunt for the perfect scent that will make my fiance say "oh my god". After an afternoon spent in the mall...I hopped in the car and said to my fiance "what about this?" (it was flowerbomb) His response? "That one is ok, but the one scent that struck me as insanely sexy was one you got in the car wearing, about a year ago. THAT one was amazing" He has a horrible memory, which is why it surprises me that any perfume hung around in his memory. It was THIS version of Angel. So now I am off to hunt online to try to resurrect a bottle. update: I did manage to find this bottle, and it is delicious. There is something about it that I crave, and I cant wait til warm weather to wear it more regularly. I think it is best worn on muggy days with a sundress and flip flops. It has a warm, salty beachy quality that is amazing. The fruit/salt combo works-like a salted rim on a margarita, or putting salt on cantaloupe (I'm a southerner by birth). It is rich, oceanic, and yummy. It does last, and like the original angel, lingers on my clothing. It does remind me of a more wearable Womanity, minus the granite. So if that ash/metallic note of Womanity was an issue for you, hunt down a bottle of this beauty.

After breaking down and giving in to a purchase of Angel, the base notes in Thierry Mugler's Angel fragrances have grown on me. Anti-patchouli since college, when "nature girls" and guys wore this essential oil by the bucket, the higher grade of patchouli in premium fragrances has swayed me. I have to be in the right mood for Angel, but the Sunessence Ocean d'Argent is much more wearable. The Frangrantica reviews influenced my purchase, as this is the only fragrance I have ever purchased without sampling first. What a purchase! The touch of floral sweetens the marine notes a bit and the sillage as an EDT is long-lasting and was still evident the next morning (12-15 hrs after applying). Lighter than Angel and not as "chocolatey", if you like Angel and want something light and different, try the Sunessence d'Argent (still available at Nordstrom.com 3/1/12).

I think this is one of my favourite Angel versions, and as a matter of fact the only one I consider buying. I actually detect quite a lot of saltiness, it seems like a bit of a crossover between the original Angel and Womanity. There is the sweetness of Angel, but it is less cloying and ligher, and there is the lovely saltiness of the summer breeze. It had got a freshsness and crispiness the original does not have, but I dont find it very fruity, it is quite a strange fragrance ideed, gourmand but not gourmand, sweet and salty at the same time, fresh but not citrus fresh, smells a bit like air at the seaside, crowded beach, smell of air and sea mixes with various foods- in this case it's a positive, warm memory. The bottle is really lovely too.
