Mirror Mirror Collection - Miroir Des Vanites

I received my bottle of this today and ripped open the external packaging to get to its stunning contents. I don't normally keep perfume boxes, but the Miroir Miroir series is exquisitely presented in mirrored wood, which compels me to make a rare exception. I spritzed only once to the back of my left hand over four hours ago and can still clearly smell Miroir des Vanites without jamming my nose against it; I have very dry skin - routinely it doesn't hold perfume well at all - so I am bemused by four people's assessment of its longevity as poor or weak. I'm equally puzzled by its comparison to Aura (which I also own) as I can't detect any similarities whatsoever. Many other reviewers have expressed their surprise at MdV being described as "for men", which I echo. I don't believe fragrance has a gender - wear whatever you like! - but the sweetness of MdV makes it more feminine than many unisex perfumes. It definitely also has more than the two notes (lemon and vetiver) listed by Fragrantica; other sites describe the fragrance as follows: “Bubbly citrus accords enliven and mingle with the warm, subtle bitterness of cinchona bark and vetiver, heightened by the black intensity of licorice" (first quoted by reviewer BIG on 21/01/2010). I'm not very good at identifying individual notes - and can't here, either - but I am picking up a creamy and sweet (not zesty) citrus accord and a definite woodiness. MdV also smells "cool". I think it will be lovely on hot muggy days in the summer. Miroir des Vanites is just lovely and it's a shame it was discontinued so soon. I highly recommend it - if you can lay your hands on a bottle...

Miroir Des Vanites is unisex. It is a beautifully balanced concoction that has a deep, oily quality. I'm sure there are more notes than those listed above. I could smell a very prominent honey note combined with ambergris a few hours ago. The longevity is impressive. I've been wearing it for about 8 hours and it is still going strong. Interestingly enough, when I first sprayed it on, it was quite citrus in nature and over time it changed to something softer and muskier. The dry down is interesting as I'm really noticing coconut and lemons. This one really morphs. It's constantly changing and resonates beautifully in warm weather. The silage isn't too powerful, which is nice (although I do love a powerhouse or 10)! If you love complex, sophisticated and unusual fragrances, then make sure you try this one. Yes, Mugler has succeeded in producing a true, rare boutique/niche perfume and I'll be buying more of these Miroir beauties. The packaging is extravagant! I've never seen anything like it! The bottle is contained in a mirrored box. It is such a glamorous keepsake! I can't heap enough love on in this one!

Got this as a free sample with a present a friend had bought me from the Mugler website . . . . OMG - This is GOOD stuff! I didnt realise it was "for men" until I looked it up here . . .Oh well , that doesnt bother me , ive worn mens fumes before and probably always will wear whatever I like! This is niche quality and extremely well made , I cannot fault Mulger , my fave house for many reasons - Quality , longlevity , amazing bottles , groundbreaking "out there" scents with BIG personality. Just excellent! Other designer perfume houses could learn a lot from TM. THis scent is lovely , very well blended i cannot pinpoint any notes , its just one gorgeous , woody , clean , classy smelling blend. This is how id imagine "lolita lempicka au masculin" to smell - it smells "clean" there is a warm foody sweetness ( vanlla n anise) undercutting the masculine "fresh woody" vibe , complex ! Unisex and a fab scent. Shame its so hard to get !

I love this and totally bemused that it says its a mens fragrance. Its a sweetish woody gourmand that I can wear anywhere. There are way more notes in this than the two listed above?! I think there is artemisia and perhaps cedar. Its perfect for the warm months of the year and perfect for the workplace. Something about it reminds me of Serge Lutens fragrances. I love vetiver but finding a decent womans fragrance based on this note is hard. This is perfectly balanced. Not too sweet and not harsh at all. Moderate sillage and lasts for many hours.

I like this scent! My second favorite from the mirror collection! It is like a grown up sparkling soda for the skin!Very interesting,nice for spring & summer!

Mirror Mirror Collection - Miroir Des Vanites Mugler like yesterday, i've only had this on for about an hour, and will update in a few more! this is advertised as a cologne, but i do not see it at all personally. it's unisex at most, though my fiancée assumed it was a women's perfume when i had her smell it without knowing what it was! it opens with a very citrusy, woody, and subtly spicy spray. on the drydown, it becomes more muted, with a vague sweetness and warmth coming through. i had a harder time pinning the notes down once it did settle a bit, but as it did, it became more and more evident that this isn't a hypermasc cologne that screams about manliness. it's much softer than that, even to the point of passing as a woman's perfume at a stretch. about half an hour in, the citrus has mellowed way out into the background, and the woodiness takes its place at the centerstage, almost reminding me of a campfire or winter holiday. at the 45 minute mark, the whole fragrance seems to become stronger than the initial drydown, somehow? i notice it more and more, which i wasn't expecting, but i don't dislike it. now at one hour i'm getting a grounded, natural sweetness that even ventures into floral territory. i think this is a really nice example of brand DNA - it's completely different from my other mugler scent (alien) in a lot of ways, but still reminds me of her, and it's clear that they are cousins in some way or another, even if i can't put my finger on it. update: stayed at this last scent until the 6ish hour mark, now it is a faint, citrusy-sweet skin scent with a quiet woody note. 🙂

This is gorgeous, green woody zesty. Lovely but doesn't last great for me and it's lacking in uniqueness.

I received a sample of this fragrance from the mugler store when I purchased Pure Havane. I must say that this is definatey signature Mugler. This is where im confused! as soon as I put this on my skin I got Alien! this smells how I think an Alien for men version would smell like. It's the oddest scent I haven smelt and I'm a huge Mugler fan. I get the vetiver and the liquorice. To me this smells like their Mugler Cologne and Alien mixed together? It's so beautiful when the middle and base notes kick in, but that opening... is so reminscent of Alien. Another masterpiece, smells like nothing else around and very niche.

That’s not a proper review, but since the perfume is discontinued, I’m capturing my thoughts on it, since I actually like it. There’s something salty about it. There’s a woody-ambery-slightly animalic base, which I find in quite a few perfumes nowadays. If you miss Mirroir des Vanites it’s worth trying: - Kilian Straight to Heaven (White Crystal flanker comes the closest this Mirroir, unisex) - Kilian L’Heure Verte (much more masculine, especially in the drydown than this Mirroir) - Jimmy Choo Amber Kiss (more straight-forward, goes directly for the ambery drydown)

Like almost all scents from Miroir collection, this one can easily go on a man or on a woman ( except Dis moi miroir which is strictly feminine) . I am a lady and I love this one. One of the smoothest woody/vetiver scents I ever smelled, it's just beautiful, classy, refreshing. I love the entire Miror collection, as it seems to me to fall into the masterpiece category easily. Of course the presentation is gorgeous. Straight on my wishlist, along with all other "miroir" perfumes.

I didn't expect this to be gourmand, but it does carry that quality. However, it is just as gourmand as it is woody... standing properly balanced with a certain warm and earthy touch. Getting better with time, Des Vanites slowly impales you with rich vanilla and the possibility of a licorice or anise note. Mr. Mugler is an unpredictable one. I'm guessing the remaining 4 Miroirs have unexpected surprises inside as well.

I wish I had read further down in the reviews to the one about the "strong licorice undertones" because, YES, I get that very very much. Unfortunately, licorice and I are NOT friends so I'll be swapping this one away. Still, this is a well-blended, quality fragrance, just not one that I can wear. Edit - this smells WONDERFUL on my husband, so it ended up being a great buy afterall :)

I would never thought it was for men in a million years when I first smelled it. Citrus also got a bit too pungent on me along with that licorice-woody accord that hard to define whether it's manly or more feminine. I should have got it when I had a chance because it does havea unique quality to it but at the same time, it can be difficult to wear on everyday basis.

A bizarre amalgamation of sugary anise biscotti, licorice root, and fizzy tonic water-laced lemonade, touched with green stem-like nuances. I wanted to love this weird trip of a perfume, because I do love when Mugler perfumers play Doctor Frankenstein and build a unique fragrance out of contrasting and contradicting notes. However, this was just too much for me!

I like this on my husband. I think this is not your typical cologne as I first thought it was a woman's perfume. This is sweeter than I would expect for a man's fragrance but it's only in the opening. Honey is not listed but I can detect it! overall very nice for summer and it has very good staying power. Sillage is very good too!

I agree with the comments above, very similar to Alien in the 1st notes and 2 hours later it still is very reminiscent of Alien. I do get a strong licourice undertone coming though. Very Mugler and very unusual, still making my mind up whether I could wear it or not.

This is really lovely I smelt it in London heathrow airport it reminds me of his mugler colonge only slightly fruitier and quite heavy on veviter
