Oriental Express

Update August 18,15 I have noticed from when this nieche fragrance first came out no one took serious and now a lot more are buying this line. This is a true story, as I was going through the store that carries this line all the associate's were talking about a woman from the Middle East had bought several sets for family back home. I'm able to appreciate this juice being a gorgeously nieche line at a reasonable price comparing it to other's. UPDATE: I finally made the leap to buy this EDP which has a very warm/woodsy/floral with a definite iris note also a sweet tone which my partner enjoy's and wears as well. Out of the Les Exceptions collection...Oriental Express, Chyprissime, Fougere Furieuse, Supra Floral and Over the musk....Oriental Express is the most unisex of all!!! As you spray it on your skin the aroma of vanilla (with a hint of iris), cedar blending with spicy notes makes it an ABSOLUTE SEXY TO WEAR! Both longevity and Silage is VERY HIGH...well past 10hrs on my skin! I ABSOLUTELY❤ this juice making worth buying in my opinion. 10/10 NO REGRETS!!!!! As long as you enjoy this fragrance and it compliment's you it is worth it so I went for. This juice was launched in a major retailer and I was curious to see what this frag was all about. When I first sprayed it on my skin I could smell a real sweet/woodsy/spicy notes. From what I could smell is definitely two major notes..1) floral notes again either iris and or labdanum is possibly as well patchouli being a sweet note. Without a doubt this frag has an ABSOLUTE blast of VANILLA. The base notes from what I could smell is oakmoss and possibly cedar. This fragrance starts with a unique dark mystical allure...after it settles you have a real attractive powdery/cozy frag which is a very high quality aroma. longevity and Silage are both excellent, lasting over 6hrs. Overall thoughts, I noticed the comparison between DH and Valentino which both have iris. I would agree that this frag screams both iris and vanilla making it ABSOLUTELY creamy aroma. Rating..this frag is excellent 9/10

What I thought I expected from something named Oriental Express would have held a closer resemblance to something like Shalimar, but I also can't say that it has been misnamed somehow. What I can tell you straight away though is that this fragrance has absolutely nothing to do with any rendition of Dior Homme or Shalimar (And I have had several concentrations and editions of both). If you're looking for one or the other, you're better off looking someplace else. Oriental Express has its very own and unique character. It opens with a whiff of fresh basil. I think some people don't pick it up over the carrot seed and sandalwood combo, which is the main player in my opinion. In any case this is a very nicely blended fragrance - the notes all melt into each other. And I personally don't find it sweet at all. But there is a definite buttery, creamy powderiness to this fragrance. It's the way that sandalwood and vanilla are balanced with carrot seed. Carrot seeds offer something that may come across as spicy and fresh, especially in the opening with the basil and bring out the woodiness of sandalwood. The vanilla in turn brings out the powderiness of carrot seeds and the creaminess of sandalwood so as it dries down it retains a nice balance between spicy, woody, powdery and creamy aspects. The sillage is quite modest, but the longevity is a positive surprise. It smells like absolutely nothing in the "reminds me of" section, and I have or have had half if not most of those fragrances. Oriental Express is first and foremost powdery, but it also has a slight edge to it that could be thought of as a bitter or green aspect. But it doesn't overpower the composition or make it distinclty green, and definitely not fresh. It's oriental in a way only a Mugler could be.

This seems to be a really polarizing fragrance, just like several other Mugler fragrances, with people saying that it smells like disgusting, overboiled carrot. Wearing this on my skin however, I get a lovely nuance between ambery notes, florals, and an earthy note, which I assume is the carrot wood. This fragrance later dries down to a really nice sweet floral fragrance, with the carrot note gone about 10 hours later. This fragrance lasts about 12 hours and has a powerful sillage. When they bottled the fragrance, they actually pour it out from the fountain and adorn it with a ribbon bearing the name of the fragrance. It's a truly marvellous presentation, and one worth savouring. My only complaint is the price (CAD$ 185) and exclusivity, which is why I took off a mark. 9/10 IMPORTANT: Yes this is a Canadian and Italian exclusive for now*. In Canada, the Les Exceptions line is sold exclusively at the flagship Hudson's Bay stores. For Toronto, that means Eaton Centre and Yorkdale Mall. IDK about other stores, so please call ahead. This fragrance line is also available to Canadian customers/people with a Canada border PO box at thebay.com. If you are outside of Canada/Italy, I would recommend you wait for it to come to your country (if it does) because the price that some people want for decants is absolutely crazy. *Nordstrom recently announced that it would be available in select US stores by 2016.

I ordered a sample off EBay and tested it today, March 6th, so I can use 20% off on Muglerusa.com for friends and family sale. I love it and ordered it! Our winter is over in Arizona it is 78 degrees here. Testing this perfume in heat was useful. Notes for this perfume did not show up on my skin like others experience (I read reviews). This opened powdery with a clean iris scent and stayed that way with hint of vanilla. If I did not know it was by Mugler I would assume it is by Lancôme. It reminds me of Lancôme Lavandes Trianon parfum so if you like that scent you should like this one. In 78 degrees this projects strongly to 6 feet or more leaving a beautiful scent trail that lingers for hours! It has been on 6 hours and is still strong after 1 spray! This was a wonderful blind buy for me and getting it at a 20% discount sweetened the deal!

I think what is meant by carrot "wood" is really the core of the carrot, and maybe it loses something in the English translation (the sheet the salesgirl had was only in French). If you've ever had a big, mature carrot and eaten it à la Bugs Bunny, once you get to the leafy end, the core is unpleasant to eat and has a woody texture! I sprayed this today on my wrist, I would say it smells less of carrot than it does of parsnip, but is not vegetal at all. It reminded me of Christmas dinner, when I make glazed parsnips. This is beyond gorgeous! Such a powdery, woody and sweet vanillic iris (okay, okay, CARROT). It is sublime. In my opinion, the standout of the five. I was a little irked that they don't give out samples of these scents. Well, you CAN get a sample, but you have to buy a full bottle of one to get a sample of another!

I finally purchased it and I really like it. It is powdery, inofessive and lasts forever. Last saturday, I sprayed it at 8:00 AM and came back at 22:00 to shower and I could still smell it. IMO it fits well for a man who likes Dior Homme. The bottle has a HUGE problem: it is a refilable bottle with a sprayer that could be removed pretty easily. The sprayer is very cheap and leaks, so there is always this scent floating around in my bathroom and my bottle is always kind of dirty... For this outrageous pricetag, I thought that the bottle would work perfectly without spilling the precious juice. I love powdery scent, I use Chanel 19 Poudre, Dior Homme, Dior Homme Intense on heavy rotation. I also wear Coromandel. For this reason, Oriental Express falls directly into my preference.

To me, Mugler is either a hit or a miss- and this one is most definitely a hit! I received a sample which I am using at different times to test how it affects my perception. I happen to find this scent sublime each time, it's present but not overbearing. I smell some chilli pepper accents, it has these spicy notes that really suit my skin and that keep reminding me of this perfume in a good sense. The longevity and sillage are only moderate to me, I can smell the EDP all through the day but it doesn't last longer than that. It's not that my clothes and bedding keep this scent for days. Considering the overall quality, this scent is as hot as can be!

I really love the scent. Very soft and sweet, but is a skin scent on my skin, and lasts at most a couple hours. Weird that lots of mugler frags do this on my skin, with exception of original angel, alien and aura. Still my favourite fragrance house though. No regrets! Just my chemistry I guess 😪 ===edit=== After two months of wearing this, I watched a video that suggested spraying this on the back of my neck and now I can smell it around me much longer. And my spouse smelled it the moment he came into the same room (and loved it).

Mugler Oriental Express (2014) - fresh oriental - Prior to his assignment in 2015 as the in-house perfumer for Chanel, #olivierpolge teams-up with #jeanchristopheherault to create a wonderful oriental for Mugler. I get an accord very similar to the original #diorhomme, Vanilla, Sandalwood, Powdery Iris, yet this is much more intriguing. I also sense Ambers and Incense akin to its reference style. But what makes it different would be the addition of Carrot seed which lightens the accord and makes it incredibly versatile.

I have tried this 3 times. I was very enthusiastic at the beginning, but I have to say that I am somewhat disappointed. I still get this Dior Homme general feeling. This is a powdery scent. However, I feel that this is clearly on the feminine side (unlike dior Homme). I am no longer interested to buy this. It has excellent longevity but little projection. There are several better options for a powdery feminine perfume(look into Guerlain Shalimar Eau Initiale or Chanel 19 Poudre). Also, the price is outrageous.

I rarely wear this but I absolutely love it! It’s like a fancy talc, with sweet vegetal notes (like when you are boiling parsnips and carrots on a Sunday before roasting them - I find this comforting!) Powdery and smooth. Iris reminds me of Dior Homme Intense but this has more depth (I love DHI too) and not gourmand. I’ve worn this to weddings and formal events... the packaging is amazing! A folding box with solid metal clip. So luxurious! The bottle is beautiful too, Long lasting and moderate sillage.

Have sampled this one a few times... It really reminds me of Dior Homme Intense - that iris note that many describe as a lipstick/make up smell. I’ve never smelled carrot seeds before but I can identify with a sweet vegetal whisp also. The sandalwood is accompanied by something green - I can’t smell Basil specifically. It projects moderately and lasts a long time, deep inhalations are rewarded with a rich and warming scent. It is expensive but very well done!

I really like this scent, it is soft and delicate yet filled with power. One can feel the basil in there, but not in a loud sort of way, which is true for all of the ingredients in the perfume. It reminds me a lot of Dior Homme Intense, which I love also, but without the Intense. It is totally unisex, but this is the female version of the Dior scent.

Love this one, it’s beautiful in cold weather. Cozy, powdery but none of the notes are overpowering If there’s any comparison to the Dior Homme line it’s in the distance, they’re certainly not identical This one smells like a high quality fragrance, an excellent fragrance for men or women

I was so disappointed to learn that this fragrance family was going to be discontinued, but I succeeded to get one last example of Oriental Express! It might be a marketing trick to discontinue Les Exceptions, for I read today that the 'Extreme" family is an exact copy of its predecessor.

jovojove, I got this (bois de carrotte) from the official documentation at Mugler Store in Montreal. They have the exclusivity of the product. I was also surprised to read this note. I sure know that carrot does not grow in trees...

Notes are carrot wood and vanilla. This is really close to Dior Homme. I was 100% sure that the main note was Iris Root, but it is not. It is a more sophisticated version of Dior Homme and it is unforgettable.

Oriental Express is an old-world and creamy-smooth scent that is utterly gorgeous. It smells like sweet iris-violet makeup powder next to a vanilla cupcake on top of a dry woody table. I wouldn’t be surprised if this were a Guerlain instead of a Mugler. The most prominent note to my nose is iris. It's not listed in Fragrantica, I suppose because carrot seeds resemble a nice rooty orris butter in this fragrance. The powdery carrot note note mixed with vanilla rings true as iris. The heart dances through some layers of muskiness, woodiness, and finally arrives at a luscious lightly-spiced vanilla in the deep drydown, nearly all of the iris worn off. The morning after, skin lingers with a rich and true vanilla. Gorgeous, and a smooth evolution. I agree that Oriental Express is a dead ringer for Dior Homme in the opening. However, I think it's much closer to Shalimar in style, drawing inspiration from Shalimar's original oriental opulence of vanilla-benzoin-woods, with a dramatic and smooth evolution from top to finish.

I'm a fan of some of the Mugler Les Exceptions line. 'Over the Musk' is a great fragrance - warm, comforting and in my world highly complimented. My second favourite fragrance in this line is Oriental Express - a fragrance that smells (to some extent but definitely not too close) as a cross between Dior Homme and Creed Original Santal despite the lack of iris, cacao and leather in this composition. Personally, I love this scent. I love scents with sandalwood, and the sandalwood, in combination with the vanilla and earthy carrot seeds in the base of this scent give it a somewhat similar 'vibe' to 'Over the Musk' - warm, inviting, and beautiful. This is a sexy, unique scent and a fragrance I am enjoying right now as I sniff this on my wrist. Longevity and projection are both solid for this scent - nothing mind-blowing but solid. If you are looking for a 'cleaner'oriental...something warm, cozy and sexy...give this fragrance a sniff. I love it.

While on paper this is close to Dior Homme, as mentioned below, it also has a rich Coromandel type vibe. BUT DON'T BE FOOLED: it is very different on skin... on my skin anyway. The iris that is round, juicy and bright on paper becomes very powdery on skin. The sandalwood, vanilla ( and carrot core-I guess) turn this fragrance into a very Shalimar-esque scent. (This Guerlain influence is also noticeable in Fougère Furieuse which reminds me of Habit Rouge) While the Toronto Sales Associate presented this one as being the most masculine of the collection, I found it just a bit too powdery for my taste. Is it a great fragrance? Yes. Do I like it? Yes. Do I need it? No. I can live without it.

Great opening, I thought I was gonna love it, but it was all down hill from there. I hate it when I can't smell it a scent up close on my skin and enjoy it, so this is like Dior Homme Intense very much in that sense, which is why I had to stop wearing that one. This scent does go on a journey but for me, it turns out to be a rocky one I don't care to take. But it was a first class opening with some great notes. However, there are similar scents to this that hold up much, much better and don't fall apart as they progress. I also think it is better suited to ladies as it progresses.

One of the first Les Exceptions I fell in love with. It does hold iris as a strong note but to me it smells far more oriental than powdery compared to the Dior Homme line. Right as it opens the thick powdery accord smacks you in the face along with a strong oriental accord (wood mixed with patch). Together they draw out a cozy base. The vanilla accord is minimally sweet, and mostly used to support the powder, wood and amber. Lovely but I can only wear during colder seasons as it really smells stuffy in hot temp.

A powdery, not very sweet, delicate vanilla and spices fragrance. Ive smelt similar fragrances to this. It so very similar to Dior Homme Intense but without the iris note. You would be potty to pay big money for it when you could buy DHI for much less. Moderate sillage and longevity

A surprise regarding to notes! I could have bet there is a bit of leather or at least saffron and more spice next to woody vanilla, but no! And iris or orris? also no! Perhaps the notes here are not well represented... The effect is very velvety slightly leathery powdery resinous cloud with pretty perfectly blended projection. It tricks your nose- basil is there, but only when you know it; woods and vanilla are not sweet, but resinous, I can smell benzoin rather than vanilla and the trump card- carrot seeds acts buttery-warm leather-like and just a bit spicy, like a bit of saffron and very tiny tobacco is also there... Must try for sandalwood lovers, really interesting take! I like this Mugler line a lot- its really masterful, lovely modern interpretation of classic profile... I just wish the scents would last longer...

Choo-choo!! All aboard the powder train!!! The last of my Mugler Les Exceptions samples finds me aboard the Oriental Express on a BIG opening of vanilla-powder bomb. The basil is there in the background providing a slight sharpness, and let me tell you, those carrot seeds are there....they really make things....interesting. It floats from a powdery-vanilla with an edge of basil sharpness and then the earthy nuttiness of the carrot seed that somehow adds to the powder note. Definitely a unique one! I don't think I've smelled anything quite like this one before. That being said, there are some notes in here that at times clash with one another and the scent teeters on muddled mess to perfectly blended. It's not something I want to wear though. This could definitely lean very feminine

This is a very sweet, powdery white musk. Reminds me a great deal of Jovan White Musk for women. Kinda like baby powder. I can't figure out why they call this Oriental. I detect no basil or spice. It's soft, sweet, dry... Not smooth.. This was not made for me. Perfectly unisex. PS I'm glad I got official samples from Mugler because otherwise I'd think someone mixed up the scents.

When I first smelled the iris note I smelled it in Guerlain's Insolence Edp and it was such a strong yet beautiful fragrance. And yes this is very similar to Shalimar like a younger twin sister. But as for iris notes, then when I smelled it again in La Vie Est Belle it was still beautiful but overwhelming. Then I smelled it again in Prada's Infusion de Iris and fell in love with that take on Iris where it was done right and realized I really do love it but it has to be done just right. In Mugler's Oriental Express it too is done right. The iris is clearly there but it is so well blended with the sandalwood and vanilla it gives off the most beautiful refreshing powdery creaminess that is exquisite. I really enjoy the iris in this so much and to smell it for the first time mixed with vanilla is intriguing. When iris is done lightly like this you can really enjoy that lipstick make-up vibe a lot. I almost wish they would of turned it up just a notch more and it would be perfect..but as it is it's still wonderful and my favorite of the whole line, second would be fougere furieuse then cuir imperial but these two fight neck and neck as I smell different notes. But oriental express to me is the star of the whole line. Its just so pretty. It does lean a bit more feminine on the dry down but it can be unisex because it is soft enough and not like this strong floral in your face that could easily be associated with it being too feminine. You should sample the 3 I suggested because they are the best smelling out of the whole line. You may feel if you have Shalimar you don't need this. But I feel if you love Shalimar you may love to get another fragrance in the same family. Sometimes I like more than one option of the same scent if that makes sense depending on my mood for that day. Yea I love this, because I love Shalimar and I never connected the notes of iris in Shalimar and now I know it has it. I love how different fragrances can teach you so much and get you better in tune with other notes.

They are all EDP, not EDT. I'll see if I can post the notes in the afternoon on Friday for all the people curious to know what's in the fragrances. Just saying, the advisor shouldn't have made the mistake, especially since I can guarantee you that they had extensive training on the fragrances (both in English and in French). They specifically want the language and service to be universal. Here's a sales trick and I'm going to hate myself for saying this, but if you try a fragrance on, you're most likely not going to get a sample of it. You also never ask for a sample, because there's a good chance you won't get it. All companies provide little tools when it comes to sampling, so unless you're a serious customer that is interested in the product...you're never going to get a sample. Spend at least 15 minutes and have a consultation with the associate in order to be given a sample. If you come at least once a month to your favourite destination where they sell perfumes, those associates recognize your face and won't provide you with samples, because you probably won't buy. A sales associate has to sell you on the dream concept of a fragrance. If you're not biting on that dream, to them, you're not worth the one sample they have out of 200 that they are given for a 6 month period. When each associate deals with 100+ people a day, that's not a lot of samples.

Honestly, if I hadn't read the word "carrot" in the notes, it would have never even crossed my mind to think this has carrot in it. All I get is a pretty classic Amber Oriental. A little spice, vanilla, a speck of floral, sandalwood, some powder....the typical, classic oriental fragrance. If anything, I was surprised by what a fairly safe scent this is considering it is Mugler. But I think this whole line is less polarizing and that is what some do not like, well, because it is Mugler and you expect a POW somewhere. For me, this is a nice, pleasant classic oriental but it just doesn't grab me in any way. But I can see where those who love this style of fragrance might really be pleased. I prefer my Mugler with either shock value or sensory confusion but this one is pretty safe to me. But it lasts a super long time on me. Like 24 hours. I think this exclusive line just aims to smell good and not confuse or wrinkle any noses. Give or take a few I guess but I mean generally. Some nice fragrances but you won't find anything as polarizing as Angel or Womanity in this collection. At least not for me. All are nice but none have made me want to start searching Ebay like a madwoman for a deal or anything or made me go WTF am I smelling. And that part I kind of miss because sometimes revolting can be fun. :)

i am a fan of Mugler's fragrances (ok,exclude Aura) they are quite unique to me and interesting. I have to say i never considered powdery fragrances as they don't seem to suit my chemistry and don't please my nose but once again Mugler worked its magic. When i sprayed this on paper it seemed powdery,yes....but in a way that made me want to smell more of this fragrance because it seemed somehow,weirdly enough, milky but in the same time it had a fresh note that i couldn't really name but made the scents interesting and balanced. i sprayed it on my wrist and wow! i might be changing my mind about powdery perfumes from now or maybe this is the exception to the rule. About one hour after spraying it is still there,not too loud and overprojecting but i get whiffs of it as i move around and it feels like a comforting cloud of warmth surrounding me in these winter days. As some said might not be the most unique avantgarde kind of juice but it has interesting notes and it reveals to be sweet but not in a sickening way and balanced with a note that makes it suitable to man and woman. it opens fresh and with a kind of green pungent moment. The iris/powder slowly comes in and the scent it's a bit milky on me(the sandalwood i guess?) but keeps that spicy/pungent hint underneath.

I think Oriental Express is totally fab -- it surrounds the wearer in a soft cloud of very powdery, ethereal amber, warm enough for it to be a real comfort-scent, but airy enough for it to be worn almost anytime. Quite a feat for an oriental. To be honest it's perhaps deceptively simple: it starts as an unsweetened, woody-carroty iris, almost like Iris Silver Mist without the turnip-alcohol thing going on, then it soon releases the aforementioned cloud of light, ambery powder. The iris keeps the composition both grounded and elegant, and steers it away from becoming gourmand in any way, so while the powder gives the sensation of an almost vanillic richness, there is cleverly no actual sweetness to the fragrance at all. It's the same billowing, luminous amber powder that's in Cuir Beluga (yes, same perfumer, as others have noted), but without any of CB's luscious confectionery. All in all, Oriental Express is an understated beauty, that would easily seem masculine or feminine according to the gender of the wearer, and while not a sillage-monster, it leaves a gentle wake of sophisticated warmth.

I received few days ago 3 samples from "les exceptions" among them Oriental express. And with pun intended, this one does smell more of an express modern minimalist oriental, than an oriental fit for the iconic "Orient-express" train. Immediately there is a big iris-like note which is the carrot seeds peeking through the base. It kinda recreates the pear-iris-cocoa accord of Dior homme intense. The vanilla and sandalwood(the latter being subdued) is not much to write home about and the mint is not much of a player here. The overall effect is very similar to Dior homme intense. It has a slight apple/carrot and rose vibe that also recalls "traversee du Bosphore" in the opening. But mostly the lipstick-oriental DHI vibe. Ok so it smells good, but can't really enjoy it too much, for it's minilamism is not dreamy or sensual, what you'd expect from an Oriental. Plus its really is similar to an array of other perfumes. EDIT: I grew to like Oriental Express more, as it has a nice presence, soft powderiness and a nice cloud of carrot/vanilla/spice. scent: 7+/10 longevity: 6/10 sillage: 7/10

Oriental Express is another minimalist entry in the Les Exceptions line. It strives for luxury and class with the selection of notes. A sweet-spicy aromatic, accentuated by a dry smooth sandalwood, and a slightly grainy aromatic texture that livens up the fragrance from the heart. You'll notice the basil here has been blended down with an expertise. This is legendarily a very out of control note in perfumery, but here it just seems to add a subtle, semi-sweet botanical lift, with a light touch of freshness. Pretty impressive technician work from Mugler as always. As a minimalist luxury fragrance, the qualities seem perfectly suited for on-the-go travel. The sweet, inoffensive aroma is sure not to bother anyone, and the sweet stimulating aromatics keep good company all the while, making the fragrance easy to enjoy for extended periods of time. A humble gem possibly for those who can behold it—but like many of the Les Exceptions entrys—only truly meant for those that it's not an expense to.

I am in agreement with Platinum14's review... A very Shalimar-esque composition indeed! I was fortunate enough to receive a sample of this from a dear fellow fragrantian, allowing me to be one of the few US members to enjoy this unusual offering from Mugler. In some ways, I would say it is an understated beauty, lacking some of the 'wow' factor in Shalimar. Perhaps less memorable, but certainly just as comforting and beautiful. I smell no carrot, just perfectly melded notes of traditional elegance and Guerlain appeal. Given the price range, however, I am not sorry to say that Shalimar appeals a bit more to my nose. There is something more arresting and memorable about Shalimar, though perhaps an unfair comparison with this newcomer. ;) To sum up, Oriental Express is a wonderful surprise from Mugler, and considerably more classic and wearable than many new releases. :D I always smile when smelling creations of this quality, no matter what the year, price, or designer. Why? REAL Perfume!

I received a sample of this when I ordered a bottle of Womanity (which should tell you something about my rather controversial taste in perfumes!) Like so many people have said, as soon as I sprayed it I thought "mmmmm. Guerlain." I wear Shalimar on a regular basis, but this actually reminds me more of Samsara. The tone is calmer and more woodsy. It's a really beautiful composition with amazing staying power. I sprayed two spritzes at 6pm and could still smell it at 2pm the next day. It feels like what you would get if you distilled all the beautiful oriental perfumes out there down to their basic essence. Comforting and mysterious, but sadly not worth the price tag given that there are so many other somewhat more unique variations on this market. A safe and beautifully done product from Mugler, but worth about half the market price.

Have you smelled Dior Homme Intense? Because if you have and have not smelled this then you now have an idea (except the lipstick iris vibe). Olivier Polge was the first maker of Dior Homme and also of this juice... there is an obvious resemblance between the two. I've been wearing this perfume on my wrist for about four hours now and the main player here is vanilla followed by a not too loud note of sandalwood. Linear composition with little to almost no development. It is a warm scent with a sweet, woodsy, powdery, floral, spicy feel. It is better suited for night time as it is in general terms a gourmand. Oriental Express also reminded me of Byredo's 1996 because of the carrot note found in both. A good juice without a doubt although there is nothing original. Try it. Like MonsieurdeParis already mentioned, this is an Olivier Polge creation but Polge also created the first Dior Homme and Valentino Uomo, witch for me is more similar to Oriental express. Like in DH and for me also in Val. Uomo, there is definitely Iris in this composition. As from the start to half drydown. Or it should be the mix vanilla - carrot seeds. Who knows. After that, Vanilla came as the most present player and to me there is definitely used the same vanilla accord as in Cuir Beluga witch for me still is the most beautiful scent I ever came across. For me Oriental Express is a stunner like most of Ploge creations. Again, Thanks monsieur Polge

I am kind of surprised that no one has mentioned the resemblance to House of Bò- Espiritu. To me these are very similar in the carrot seed note that is quite dominant in the dry down. They both smell fresh but warm and comforting at the same time. This is a fall fragrance for me in the best way possible. When you're craving some spices but also want to look and feel put together and fresh. It is an effortless fragrance to be wear daily during day time. Although is unsual, it won't offend anyone. Awesome sillage but not a huge projection.

Here is something I thought Id never say in the same sentence...This is a clean oriental. Polge managed to do it. Traditionally the oriental genre is loaded with lush spicy resins, and depth. Oriental Express Is a light powdery, creamy vanilla and sandalwood. Now if someone reads these reviews one can get the impression its damn near close to carrot juice. It isnt. Dont let that stray you from trying this unique beauty. Its not light, more medium of the road in heft, not at all heavy like most orientals. Its beautiful in its own way.

I didn’t think of this earlier, but the wood hidden in Le Lion’s base resembles the wood accord here. The fingerprints are evident in both fragrances, so it’s no surprise that they were created by Olivier Polge. Le Lion is the superior fragrance overall, with better blending than Oriental Express, which has a synthetic opening. Oriental Express is the more wearable Shalimar-esque option in the long run. I don’t want to give the impression that the two are interchangeable. They’re two different takes on the same oriental dna.

I dont necessarily agree it smells like Dior Homme, more like a Chanel no 5 face powder, or some face cream, it is vintage in the smell, classic, a bit spicy..I find it more feminine than masculine...I dont find it to be the most masculine of the line, it has a certain complexity .nothing I would wear, but it is interesting, soft yet present..I do not detect any vanilla, it is a soft spicy scent, nicely done.

I have both Mugler Oriental Express and Dior Homme Parfum. As stated on Mugler website and Fragrantica Mugler Oriental Express does not have iris inside and doesn't smell like Dior Homme at all, not even a hint. These are 2 complete different fragrances. Both are amazing. About Oriental Express this scent is amazing and so soothing. Masterpiece for me.

Smoky basil. When i first sprayed this one i got "Cuir Ottoman" by Parfum d`Empire vibes with that balsamic leathery note and nutmeg, but when it settled the basil shoot up and became smoky with hints of musk. Burnt sandalwood, cedar are there as well blended with gourmand vanilla. It's fair.

The notes we will add a bit later. For now there is just announcement that collection has followed traditional olfactory groups, so we will update everything when we get the final info. And yes, it is available only in Italy and Canada, but I presume it will be available worldwide later on.

Everyone is just going to ignore how much this smells like Guerlain's Cuir Beluga? That's the first thing that came to mind, then I came over to fragrantica to realize O.E. is also an Olivier Polge creation. Bravo, Monsieur Polge, but I prefer Beluga!
