Over The Musk

If you are trying to find a different white musk scent I had to get this white musk scent because it was being described everywhere as so unique. I wondered if the "better than your skin" or "fresh laundry" category could bring me something new. I have many beautiful scents in those categories and have tried at least as many more. What did I get? I really got a different scent, the aroma of which was even difficult at first. In addition to the usual cleanliness, the scent has a slight menthol freshness instead of clear soapy feeling. It is emphasized in the opening and dissipates during the first half hour. Aldehydes are missing, so the cleanliness is different and Ambrette does not make the scent clearly sweet. The scent is dense, almost creamy and a powdery veil gradually descends over it, making the scent soft and fluffy. It's bright and somehow light as a feather even if it's not weak. It took me a surprisingly long time to get used to this scent, the menthol-like freshness felt like I simply didn't like it at first. It could also be that the juice had been shaken around a lot in transit and the scent molecules took a long time to settle in. As is usually the case with blind purchases, I'm impatient and want to try them right away, even though I should let the bottle sit for at least a few days, preferably a couple of weeks. Although this category of fragrances always has a lot of synthetic ingredients, this one smells exceptionally synthetic, which may also be why the scent was so difficult for me. Now, after two months, it doesn't bother me at all, but on top of that, I'm always amazed at how Hérault and Polge managed to make such a unique concoction from a super popular fragrance category. If Angel | Mugler" is a completely unique gourmand that revolutionized the fragrance industry, then Over the Musk is similarly unique in its own category. The scent is really long-lasting, but it only projects to people nearby. For a white musk scent, I think it's more unisex than the scents in the category in general. Love this so much.. ahhhh, close to perfection. My bottle is quite old, & unusually for me, it's barely a qtr full. & this is why I hv so many backups of everything, to a silly degree - bc I cannot find another bottle of this anywhere; a Google search keeps telling me only a US website that doesn't ship to the UK has this - Frag X do ship to the UK, & I order bottles of all sorts of perfumes from them, all the time, but they've never had it. If anybody has a bottle for swap, I hv quite a few (like really, quite a few,) different bottles for swaps - bc my bb's got a bit ridiculous during the pandemic, & either I like something or zi don't, & sometimes I change my mind re a perfume, but after half a year if I hvnt, I don't like them to go to waste, prfumes should be loved - but everybody needed a hobby during the pandemic, & many of us got a bit unnecessary with the bb's. This is cosy, musk-y pheromone like, close to the skin but present, gorgeousness - it's not for everybody, (& don't "layer it with Molecule 01 as Miss Rawlings says - clearly she was kidding..) bc it's charm is in its minimalist, but rounded, warm skin-like essence, yes, it is kind of minimalist, but to me, far better than M01 - although I like M01 v much - this though, is a different creature; not a layering perfume at att, to me - or to many who love it- it is what it is - am not a Mugler fan but this is the best, musk-y skin like, but warmer, better snuggle-y perfume to me - some ppl find it "masculine" on them, but my skin pulls most things quite sweet. The black pepper part can be annoying, but it doesn't dominate, & the rest makes up for it, to me. Nothing else is quite the same, I find. I hv to be in the mood for this, but.. Love💜🙏 (Would love somebody to swap, bc I cannot get it, in the UK, currently🙏💜)

I got a sample of this one. I don't think I very often can say that its love at first sniff. But darn, this is very close for me! Over The Musk - It's a delightful, delicious musk fragrance. Not overpowering and pleasant from the initial whiff. Nothing bad about this one. It fades a bit too quickly. Even on a paper test strip there is a faint scent - about 1 inch days later. I found myself resisting the urge to sniff it every chance I got. The blend of Musk, amber and woody is very nice. Well done Mugler! Over The Musk definitely unisex but a man would have no problem wearing this one. This is a fragrance that I would wear no matter if anyone else likes it. A very comforting, warm & welcome scent. I'd really enjoy having it in my collection but it's just too pricey IMO. If you're a musk lover who enjoys a lighter, yet not a weak scent, this is one for you. Blind buy worthy for musk fans. Longevity was decent. About 6 hours. Sillage 1-2 feet but fades to around 6 inches after a few hours. Can still smell the next day but more of a skin scent. Not overpowering. TBH.. One of the best musks that I have ever smelled! If anybody should happen have a bottle or partial that you wouldn't mind trading or selling, or know of something quite similar to Mugler OTM, message me. **Update** I tried this one again. August 2020.. This IS THE BEST musk fragrance I've ever smelled hands down! It's DELIGHTFUL!! If anybody has a decant or partial bottle they wouldn't mind parting with at a fair price - LMK please.

Many times I came to Fragrantica's Over The Musk page and tried to write a review about it, yet I just couldn't. This is a very abstract musk scent and the feeling it evokes is very difficult to be transcribed into words. But I'll try today because I've owned a bottle for a couple of years, and more importantly this perfume deserves some more love. Over The Musk opens with of course musk, but also a very particular aroma that I can only contribute to ambrette seeds. To me it smells kinda like gasoline but not the stinky bit, just the best volatile top layer of it. This perfume smells even less perfume-y compared to Narciso Rodriguez because there are no floral or powdery notes. Just musk and a fine sugary(not vanilla or honey, really just sugar) note that gives body and warmth to this perfume . The top notes burn off in an hour or two, and what's left is a very sensual musk scent that really is "like your own skin but better", and it stays the way throughout. It also gets a bit woody at this point. People guessed cedar but to me it's more rounded than the typical cedar note, which is a good thing. This perfume projects well and can last throughout the work day. It definitely is a perfume that leaves an impression because people smell you but don't know what to make of it. One guy I dated used to say this perfume always made him want to "lean closer to figure out what it is". Excellent composition by Olivier Polge.

I recently picked up a bottle of 'Over the Musk' from the Mugler Exceptions line. I initially wasn't sure if this leaned too feminine as it is a unisex scent, but sampled it and ended up buying a bottle. This scent has a very soft light sweetness to it. One of my favourite parfumers, Olivier Polge, had a hand in creating this warm and sexy scent. Its composition is very simple - it's really three notes: musk, ambrette seeds, and woods. I would describe this scent as the kind of fragrance you could wear cuddling on the couch with your girlfriend/partner. When I first sniffed it, I was quite surprised at how soft and unassuming it was. It doesn't scream or shout, yet both longevity and sillage is pretty good. It has this very natural vibe to it, and it is quite appealing. Because it is a unisex scent, it is not particularly masculine, but I do think a guy could pull this off. I remember putting on a few sprays and sitting on the couch when my wife came down to sit beside me. She didn't say anything for five minutes while reading the newspaper, but then turned to me and said, 'you smell really nice. I like that. What is it?' Check it out if it is available at a store near you. I believe you could wear this Fall/Winter/Cool Spring - just not summer.

Smells of musk , amberette seeds and a hint of cedar I am enjoying this one. Its a musky cozy warm scent. Great on both sexes . It's very soft and in the background. Not in your face at all. It won't fill a room but it leaves a warm comfortable unique aura around you. Close by you. I do believe this scent has some cedar in it. Although not listed. But many notes often are not listed. I wish this had some creaminess to it , I miss this here ( Narciso, white suede , Santal blush ,are musk scents with some creaminess. I adore that) However I do smell a ceader note , like one reviewer already said , it smells of a ceader sauna , I totally agree! I like this subtle natural scent . Perfect for days you don't want to smell of perfume but rather just smell good! Wraps you in a natural skin scent. Slightly spicer and woodier than natural skin. Absolutely addictive and lovely on both sexes. Its a sexy sensual scent. Time to cozy up! Love it! Went to my top shelf! You can unscrew the top, to refill. This is my favourtie of the les exemptions,when you order it from the Bay they are kind enough to send you samples of the entire line in a beautiful package.

I feel like I've been looking for a signature scent forever and I have just discovered it with this fragrance! It is absolutely beautiful! I am not a Mugler fan by any means, I dislike all of the Alien and Angel line, so I didn't anticipate even liking this when someone sent me a sample. But when I tried it, I was blown away! I get the black pepper for a very short moment in the opening, but then it dries down into this beautiful, sweet, powdery, clean musk scent. It's light and inoffensive, a perfect daytime fragrance for the office or close quarters. It has a sensual elegance to it that also makes it suitable for night time events. This can easily be worn year round imo because it's never overbearing or cloying. I love Musk Therapy and Musc K, but this beats them both by miles. It's not only my favorite musk fragrance, but it's also taken top spot out of my entire fragrance collection. I like this even more than Gioiosa and Orchidee Vanille, which I previously would have said was impossible. This is an absolute love for me!

I've wanted to try this for a very long time but it's discontinued and prices are insane. First I'll say that this is totally unique from any other white musk I've tried, niche or otherwise. 🍦 Have you ever walked into a craft ice cream shop like Amy's Ice Cream, Jeni's ice cream, or Cold Stone Creamery? It smells exactly like that in the opening. Frozen milk, vanilla, malt, and the ice cold metal scooping and sculpting tools. I get a lot of vanilla malt throughout the life of the experience. It's pillow soft with no animalics whatsoever- very relaxing. The problem for me is in the drydown where the scent of a woman's boudoir arrives on my skin and makes it lean feminine in my opinion. I still like it, but I'm not sure I can pull this one off. Longevity is very strong as it's highly concentrated (leaves a big oil spot on skin) but projection stays closer to your immediate vicinity. It is beautiful and I can understand the hype, but I ended up selling it. Luxe presentation, very nice. Scent 8.4/10 Performance 7/10

This is a rich scent even though it is quite subtle when worn. It smells amazing. I got a little spray sample bottle with a Mugler.com order. Over the Musk reminds me of Dame New Musk Oil, in that the musk has prominent florals at first. Over the Musk is very clean, very stable. Musk Mallow has barely any scent from the live flowers, so there must be some kind of extraction or chemical composition that makes a "musk mallow" note. In any case, I don't know what to sniff for, so I'm not sure if I smell it. Perhaps the musk mallow creates the vanillic notes? WIth Over the Musk,there's none of the seduction of Musc Ravageur, or the overt feminitiy of All that Matters. Over the Musk is not, however, the "clear" musk of Il Profumo Musc Bleu (to which I am anosmic). I can definitely smell Over the Musk, and smell it well. To me it's a "golden" musk, if that makes any sense at all. It's ambery, for sure, and slightly vanillic, but, on me, it's mostly a clean, woody musk that smells comforting and confident.

I purchased 'Over the Musk' almost a year ago, and while I wore it a few times, stuck to my favourites last Fall/Winter. I started wearing this scent last month...and I realized how great this scent really is. It has the very warm, comforting aura to it...mildly sweet with a gourmandish touch to it. The notes are simple, but masterfully blended, and when you look at the perfumers behind this scent, it's not a surprise. The cashmere wood base, with musk and ambrette seeds gives this fragrance an intimate character. While I was concerned that this scent would be too feminine, it's really not. It's quite gender neutral and if compliments matter to you, I have received a number of unsolicited compliments from females (I had an esthetician ask me to write this down so she could buy it for her boyfriend). This fragrance does not scream - longevity is good, projection is moderate to low-moderate. Great fragrance, exclusive and bottle worthy!

This is the best one from this line in my opinion and it's slow burner. That's not to say that I didn't immediately find it gorgeous because I did, a super minimal, sensual, warm ambrette note, soft cashmere texture, this kind of perfumery is so up my street, especially when the sledgehammer approach starts to get tired. All you need is a beautiful, sweet, musky, simplistic fragrance like this. Ambrette seed is VERY expensive and if this uses the real stuff (which I suspect it might) then the inflated price of this Mugler line is justified. Now.... not that I'm one to usually gripe about price or that these are even that expensive compared to some brands nowadays, but I feel slightly more comfortable paying top dollar for this than I would Hot Cologne for example. I am going to buy this fragrance at some point because it's so wonderful it grows fonder and fonder in my memory. Over the Musk is a triumph...just try it for yourself.

One of the problems a fragrance collector has, is acquiring new fragrances means less time wearing tried and trued fragrances that smell amazing that somehow you forget about (even though you have a backup bottle). That's my experience with Over the Musk. I LOVE this fragrance. OTM (Over the Musk) just smells so bloody amazing. It's comforting, sensual, it doesn't scream. It has a light powdery vibe to it, the ambrette seeds/cashmere woods/musk composition just gives it this fragrance a beautiful scent cloud. I'm finding that there are some newer fragrances I like - Tom Ford Lost Cherry, Bacchus Triump of Argos, Amouage Reflection Man 45, BDK Gris Charnel Parfum Extrait, Kilian Angel Share...but I am re-discovering scents I wore a few years ago that need some wears - Dior Homme Intense (2007 bottle), Dior Homme (2013 bottle) and Over the Musk by Mugler is another.

My signature scent, i discovered this scent when it was only exclusive to The Bay Canada, it was Muglers way of thanking Canadians for their customer support, this was back in 2016 or 2017, all i know by 2019 i was on my second bottle and boy has it been hard purchasing a third, thank God i had enough left for my wedding in 2021. my hubby was in dubai and it was even sold out at bloomingdales, UGH! Thank heavens for my sweet American cousin where i was able to purchase and send the package to her address and have her mail it directly to me. The point of this story ladies and gentlemen is that ITS THAT GOOD!! Though i enjoy adding to my collection, it never feels complete without Over the Musk💕 The ultimate your skin but better scent, the musk of all musks, clean, soft with a hint of mystery. Great silage too and it’s always been a compliment getter.

The longevity is disappointing (90 minutes until disappearance??), but goodness gracious, the scent itself is beautiful. I have fond memories of pilfering my mom's Avon Soft Musk rollerball when I was young and nuzzling my wrists incessantly after application. This brings back very similar nostalgia, but more grown up / sophisticated. I had every intention of waiting until this went on sale during Black Friday 2021 or some other big sale event to score a full bottle (or two!). I am extremely alarmed that I received an email from Mugler that they had a new website, and when I went to go reset my password, I looked at the Les Exceptions line and it was missing. o_O Looking for decants, partial, or full bottles from reputable sellers (preferably USA based, but beggars can't be choosers).

A while back I received a sample of Over The Musk when I ordered more Angel edP from the Mugler USA site. I immediately fell in love with it, but the price I felt was too high (even though I have spent much more on many, many Tom Ford & Guerlain perfumes). I got an email from Mugler about Black Friday sales, and Over The Musk was on sale, and also it included a FULL size Angel lotion and tons of other goodies (many well sized). Over The Musk is V E R Y soft, but lasts a good while on skin, but it always stays close. The best way to describe it is....warm skin wearing vintage musk oil dusted with old fashioned face powder. I know that most likely sounds strange, but that is exactly how it smells and I love it!!

Over The Musk by Mugler is a spicy sweet musk that is softened by the ambrette on a fluffy wood base. This fragrance is nuzzling your lovers neck. It is intimate, personal, warm, and calming. I had been lusting for a full sized bottle for ages and savored my little sample till I finally was able to shell out for a bottle. This fragrance won’t get you noticed, but if someone is close enough to smell it – you will be remembered. This scent would be amazing as a body wash, body lotion, candle, etc. because I would love for not just my body, but my entire home to smell this good and it is such a cozy scent! I adore it!

It’s hard to describe, but really alluring and addictive. I smelled this fragrance among probably 50 others one day and I kept going back to this one. It’s as smooth as silk, subtly sweet and only slightly peppery in the opening, very second skin-like. It makes me think of a beautiful, happy and loving woman. Over the Musk sits very close to the skin, this works for it though, I don’t think it would have the same effect if it were strong. It seems made for intimacy. The price point is a bit high I think, but I did keep coming back to it, so maybe it’s justified on some level.

One year after I smelled Over the Musk, my mom bought me this perfume as my 18th birthday present, and honestly at first, I wasn't too sure if I actually liked it, so I forgot about it for about 6 months before I came back to it. I'm glad I let sit for a while, because it has been, ever since, my favorite perfume in my collection by far. As a musk lover it is truly the most beautiful musk I've had the chance to smell. It's a shame that it's now discontinued. I'm now 21, and holding on to the last quarter of my bottle, wishing they would restock the fragrance.

Wanted to sample after Demi Rawlings said she could not live without in her collection and notes appealed to me . Sample didn’t disappoint and I ordered full bottle from Mulgar and I can’t put it down ❤️ it’s warm, sexy but elegant , not in yr face offensive like Alien but sultry ! Projection is reasonable , lasts on my skin 5hrs plus but I haven’t over sprayed yet as so new .its a love despite price £250 ..and it would also layer well , if they did larger bottle I would upgrade but I believe they have only just re-released as this was discontinued . Love ❤️

This, hot cologne, and ambre redoutable are my favorites of the les exceptions, I wish I had them all! This I think of as an ode to cashmeran, looking out a window at a forest of leafless trees, sheer grey curtains gently swaying in a chilly breeze. Austerity balanced with tenderness, earth & wood notes ground the airy fluffy clean laundry feeling. Turtleneck type scent, fits a greyscale or earth tone outfit. Leans feminine but still unisex. Light but not too weak, gets deeper sweet woody musk as it dries down with a vanillic myrrh/rootbeerish quality

Awesome, sophisticated, complex musk. It's the only one I've smelled from this line and I'm blown away, as the usual Mugler more-is-more hallmark is nowhere to be found. This is classy as hell, I'm not surprised to see thr Polge name attached to it. It's warm, fluffy, cloudy, pillow-soft and sweet, but in an ethereal way rather than being sickly or suffocating. The animalic musk (if it can be called that) is akin to Musc Ravageur but very toned down, and is complemented by ever so slightly nutty, fruity complexity. It's a love!

I've wanted this forever after smelling it on someone and last week I finally found a bottle at a semi decent price. My instincts were correct, it is fantastic. Woody and sweet but not cloying in the least. Soft and warm with a tiny speck of peppery spice. To me it is a cross between Tom Ford Oud Wood and Blamage my Nasomotto. Only reservation is the projection and longevity is slightly below average, I wish it were a tad stronger. Overall though it is beautiful and completely unisex. A masterpiece.

This is musky and woody and just simply delicious. Over the Musk sits close to the skin and envelopes you in a blanket of "my skin scent, only better"....so very cozy. Hubby loves it too and actually bought it for us to share. The bottle comes empty and gets filled at the source (so it is refillable) and then the name and code number are placed onto the bottle.

Distinctive. A work of sweet sensitivity and natural intelligence. Like a person who’s genuinely nice yet never boring. Tender yet strong—softness with an edge—a paradox. Perfection. Additional note: You might get anosmic to it after an hour. Based on experience, people can smell the sillage even after 6 hours, when I thought it was gone after 2 or 3.

Not happy with MuglerUSA. Customer service said they had known issues with servers processing various credit cards. I tried many times to place an order. Now its out of stock. "Oh we're sorry about that. Nothing we can do". Nice job Mugler. Thank you to the kind souls who gave me a heads up it was available. Sadly it's out of stock again.

On me this one smells like our cedar wood dry sauna. At least at first, then it gets a little more musky with time but keeps the sauna smell. I like it, it's comforting and warm. Would I want a full bottle of it, not sure. I'm not over the moon about it, but it is comforting and I could see it growing on me more each time I wear it.

This is one of those fragrances that comes off masculine on a man and feminine on a woman. It’s gorgeous! Like the best smelling person on the planet but it’s just the way they naturally smell. The dry down almost comes off as a comforting shampoo smell, not fruity but more of a warm clean cashmere shampoo. If that makes sense..

Reading recent reviews, it looks like this is very different to the previous perfume which was discontinued, which is the one I have. Mine performs spectacularly, and the pepper is really very subtle; I can only smell it if I'm looking for it. If you can get a vintage, I highly recommend it, it's a spectacular warm, fuzzy musk.

Got the sample and it's beautiful! Cozy white musk with some fruity sweetness ( just a little bit). Perfect everyday scent. If someone if willing to sell a bottle please dm me. EU region UPDATE: Got the bottle! So happy!! Wish that staying power and sillage is longer and stronger but it's so beautiful that it doesn't matter.

Unexpectedly good . Blind bought this at online discounted retailer , it’s hardly available anywhere else. Considering it is an old batch , this was a pleasant surprise. I kept sniffing myself all day , like a badger in heat. I wish I could get my hands on another bottle. It is also very layerable .

This is an expensive smelling musk with a slightly peppery nuance on my skin (which is also the case with musk therapy). However and unfortunately, I am anosmic to this perfume as past the opening spray I am not able to smell it on myself at all. I wish it had greater projection or longevity.

A warm velvety caress. Imagine a blend of suede, musk and rum. It’s effectively attractive and sensual. I wouldn’t over do it since it works and projects better in small doses. Otherwise it turns into a cloying and suffocating perfume. If it wasn’t for the price, I would definitely buy it.

This is such a perfect, beautiful musk. I put some on my wrist in the morning and could still smell it at the end of the day. Whenever I would get a whiff of it, it would put me into such a boozy mood..wow. No perfume has ever done that to me. It's a little pricey but maybe someday :)

Subtle, soapy, clean musk. Class in a bottle. Light and fleeting however. Update 10/18: The foregoing was the sample vial. I got the full bottle recently and it's richer, sweeter, and much longer lasting. Reminds me of Dame New Musk Man, which I also own. Both fabulous!

I love Kayali, but their musk doesn’t come close to this. Mugler’s offering is pricy for a reason- it’s a masterpiece. It reminds me of my boyfriend’s armpits but in the best way possible 😂 the most pheromone-laden scent ever and I am completely in love with it

A fantastic soft musky fragrance that leans feminine. Picked a bottle up for my wife and she loves it! So do I. Sexy, inviting and easy to be around. If you’re looking for a feminine musk fragrance this is a must try. Highly recommended!

This is a very powdery Gris Dior in a good way. Gris Dior has this sharpness that I dislike that this perfume manage to change. Feminine leaning musk. Beautiful. I am glad I got them 25% off during Black Friday Sale. Another LOVE!

Still smells great, similar to the original, but this was reformulated around the time between Cuir Impertinent and Woodissime came out. This info came from a couple Clarins representatives, so I’m not making it up on my own.

@downtomars13 If you can’t stop sniffing your wrist than that’s a sign you need to get a full bottle 😄 On me doesn’t project much but I think it’s performing better in summer when it’s hot outside (at least on my skin)

Soapy, effervescent aldehydes and addictive ambrette. Beautiful, Easy reach xx wish it lasted longer! Edit: it lasts longer in the heat and sits close to the skin but I like that about it. It's perfumey in a good way

Just love it!! It is warm,comforting and all over an very easy scent to wear. It is musky, but in a elegant way. Only wish it would be a little more potent and last a little longer. The scent itself is beautiful ❤

smells like a clean girl on a clean white bedsheet. the scent is not clean as in soapy, but it's literally the smell of skin for me. just lovely, effortless and elegant. REALLY NEED A BOTTLE, ANYONE SELLING?

I had a sample of the OG formula and it smells the same as the new version to me. The musk pepper harmony is a beautiful thing on some of us - shame for the rest of y'all. This is a deep deep forever fave.

I was able to purchase a bottle online from Mugler France and now I regret I didn't buy a back up bottle. This is so timeless and there's nothing like this anywhere from any brand. Bring it back, Mugler!

This is easily one of my most complimented fragrances - and I have a fairly large collection. Soft, subtle, mildly sweet and enticing...this is an underrated fragrance. I love this stuff!

Could someone please get the new re-releases of Les Exceptions, decant them, and sell them? I can't justify $300 for a whole bottle of this unless I have tested it first 🥲❤️🩹

I’m hearing word from several sources that all of Les Exceptions, Womanity and Innocent have been axed by L’Oréal and are now discontinued. Just an FYI.
