Black Tea

It opens with a fresh soft spicyness with clove, basil and nutmeg and smells really good. This is followed by a really wonderful black tea note that makes the scent a bit refreshing. As time moves forward you get some leather mixing in with the masculine spice followed by a musky woodyness. The scent has arm length projection and starts to quiten down after four hours then becoming a skin scent by hour five which is not bad for a cologne as some EDT's have the same longevity. The fragrance is of a high quality and the way the leather and spice mix together is good and I'm especially impressed with the strong black tea note which adds a extra dimension to the leather and spice. It is very masculine and a good modern barbershop cologne showing how the barbershop cologne has evolved compared to Trumpers, Floris scents etc.

Not what I expected when I first tried it. It's a rich dark scent compared to the others from the house, not at a fresh tea although it's not completely dark. Tea plays 4th sting behind what I perceive as blackberry, suede and musk. This actually feels like something Tom Ford would release and something you'd wear for a night out. It makes me think of colors purple and black for some reason. Very rich, enjoyable, and interesting cologne. Performance is below average and although it starts off very strong as indicative of a cologne, it levels out very fast and can be worn in moderate temperatures. Scent 8.3/10 Performance 3/10 I figured out what this reminds me of. This is a cologne version of Noir 29 by Le Labo.

Wow, forget about the label that says Black Tea, because this is a spiced leather beauty with the rest of notes supporting the leather note to give a rugged smokey appeal. To my nose, Black Tea has similarities with Tea for Two by L'Artisan Perfumiere. The fragrance is better used with casual jeans and crisp shirt wear for its refreshing feel. The performance is exceptionally good for an EDC. Black Tea and Napier are my favourites from Murdock London. The offerings are impressively packaged in a coffret box with an outer sleeve. Overall, a highly recommended for lovers of leather-based scents. A solid 8/10 in my book!

This is really nice. Smells like spicy leather. The scent for Black Tea is masculine through and through. Out of the 4 Murdock fragrances I sampled, this is the one I enjoyed most. The others being Vetiver, Patchouli, Avalon. Worth getting a bottle as this is unique and pleasant for a Fall or Spring day.

Fresh, spiced leather, done in a modern barbershop style. Very classy scent, fit for a gentleman. Doesn't smell "old man" or dated in the slightest. None of that 70's or 80's style musk lingering underneath. Highly recommended for anyone looking to try a modern masculine barbershop scent.

Jack Hunter nailed it again. This is a beautiful fragrance in the vein of Idole by Lubin, but lighter, not as smokey and a wonderful everyday scent. Looking forward to traveling to London, my first stop will be Murdocks for a shave, a haircut and to sample more of their products.

The scent is awesome, long lasting that mid is very leather sweet tabacco, the dry down has the tea but I smell it and to my nose its very similar to Zino, at the skin scent/dry down. Great mature (not old) scent.

Black Tea is a beautiful spicy/leather fragrance that hypnotizes the senses. It is very elegant and sophisticated. It lasts 5-6 hours on my skin. I get a lot of compliments when I wear it.

While it starts off fairly masculine, the floral and musk notes kick in and remind me of church as a child and the mix of feminine perfume, wine, and incense. I dig it.

A pleasant cologne which opens strongly with spicy peppery notes and hints of basil. I find that it matures quite quickly into leather and then mellows into woody tones. Overall feels quite rich, dark and masculine as if emulating the feel of black tea rather than mimicking it outright. Would recommend for a night out. A decent life on this one, lasting around 6 hours after application, projecting intimately, so don't expect it to fill a room. My only gripe would be the price point, at nearly £100 for 100ml, it does feel slightly overpriced. If that's a concern, maybe try a sampling size or if on offer.

Opening kinda reminds me of the noir29 but drys down very differently. Noir29 gets dryer, woodier, and earthier. While this becomes much more musky and slightly leathery and definity airer. Black tea in the dry down reminds me of a designer that I can't really pin point but I have/had own or smelled before. For rn it's Jovan musk lol. Again noir29 has a nicher feel which this has a more designer feel.

Around $100 for a bottle of this? NO THANKS! It certainly opens up nice enough, but don't they all. Drydown smells very watered-down. For something available exclusively at Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus, it's a joke. A SAD joke.

Mmm smells like fluffy men's shaving cream! I'm a female and got this island a Nordstrom Father's day gift with purchase. I'm keeping it for myself for post shower or bedtime 🌙

This ones really nice. It's a creamy black tea with a vanilla background. Its not overly sweet. I wish the tea note was stronger, but its there.

Picked up a bottle at TJ Maxx for $40. I get some muted spices with a suede note, vague woods and musk, zero sweetness for me. Sits close to skin, low projection, average longevity. Based on reviews, I expected something punchier, it certainly is not something that I would describe as rich or dark and it performs like your basic cologne. Overall very traditional, subtle and mature. Not worth the hype or inflated retail price IMO.

A very dank smelling fragrance--it seemed less like tea and more like cloves and leather. I found this intriguing but ultimately too harsh to be worth wearing. I could see someone other than myself enjoying this if they wanted to give off strong "don't touch me" vibes.

Opens with a sharp blast of spices, with some support of geranium (imo). In the drydown, the cloves still dominates the blend, that fortunately becomes a bit rounder, and a subtle tobacco note appears. Only in the late drydown will I get the tea impression, that the cloves and basil are supposed to give. I really liked Patchouli and Vetiver from the same house, but here I am terribly sorry to say that it's a total miss. Smells like an unbalanced cheap dollar store cologne that makes Cuba fragrances appear as niche quality in comparison. Not even sure that I will finish my travel spray tbh.

Despite the notes, this is not overly dark or spicy as you may predict. Black tea is the impression Murdock want to give although it is not actually an ingredient in this blend. Their website lists it as an accord made up of other notes so I went into this as a lifelong black tea drinker with no expectation of it actually smelling of tea. What you do get is a very fresh, bright (very contrary to the notes) blend that has a lightly citrusy feel at the top with a mildly brewed tea vibe akin to a lemon tea. I barely get any leather and the clove is not at all prominent, just a sprinkling to add it's smoothest facet to the mix. The base is smooth and aromatic and helps ground everything well. Again, this will smell very contrary to your expectations from the notes. To me this is a ultra fresh and expertly crafted take on a barbershop cologne which despite its classification smells and projects a level up more like an EDT. I really normally don't like the 'cologne' styles but this has re-opened my eyes and my nose. This is so wearable and utterly delightful and I would find it hard to think how anybody would be offended by this. This really is walking out of a barbers freshly shaved or coiffered with a spring in your step ready to embrace the day. Loving every drop of it!

I have the special edition. I got it on sale for $50 from Murdock's website, and before that I'd tried a sample travel bottle from eBay of the original version. For the price I paid, I think it's a good value and I appreciate the scent a lot. However, it's pretty weak juice, and for a watered down fragrance like this the typical price point ($110-150) is pretty hard to swallow. It doesn't smell like tea at all, really. It smells like a classic men's shave product that reminds me of guys my dad worked with in the 80s, and that classic masculine vibe is nostalgic for me. I can't put my finger on what product it smells like. It's not quite Brut or Old Spice, but it seems like there must be an old, common shaving cream or aftershave in stores that smelled like this because as soon as I sprayed it I went, "oh, THAT smell." Overall a great buy for men if you can get it on sale and want something light for office/professional situations when you don't want to be too stinky with a heavy gourmand or tobacco scent.

Yep. Everything that's already been said. I'm a big fan of the old-school fragrances and I don't want anything to replace them. Murdock places subtle twists in the old-school barbershop scent: at once making something new and classy, yet not falling prey to current trends and fads. Black Tea is a perfect example of this. You've smelled this type of leathery-tea cologne before, yet ... not quite like THIS before. It's an interesting, narrow spot of the fragrance spectrum when it comes to this genre. Long live the house of Murdock!

Fantastic. A Davana and Black Tea master scent . A Deep dark striking scent. I still haven’t found a black tea scent that comes close to this, not even Bvlgaris tea scents. Very masculine that attracts attention from all age groups. I bought 3 bottles. The notes are wrong, as this is the correct pyramid . , Top Notes: Black Tea and Bergamot Middle Notes: Davana, Geranium Base Notes: Cedarwood, Amber

This is one of the worst scents I’ve ever worn. Calling it black tea is not only incorrect, but an insult. It’s SUPER pungent and smells more like the notes listed here than black tea. It smells rank

I smelt this on a colleague and I thought it was Chanel’s platinum egoiste
