Vetiver

Found Murdock Vetiver at Marshall's for $40 for 100ml so took a chance as I enjoy vetiver fragrances. This is the new style bottle that looks like a flask, not the bottle style shown on this page. The notes listed here seem to be lacking as well, here is what is listed on Murdock's website: Top Notes: Bergamot, Clove Middle Notes: Vetiver, Nutmeg Base Notes: Patchouli, Amber I am very much enjoying this despite it being quite different from what I expected based on the other vetiver fragrances I currently have. As many people have mentioned, there is a distinct licorice-like accord on opening that I believe comes from the combination of the clove, nutmeg and vetiver. I do not really get much bergamot except for a very faint citrusy-sweetness in the opening. After a bit, the licorice top settles down and this is mostly a dirty vetiver/patchouli combo. Very much a "distinguished British gentleman, fresh from the barber" style cologne, which makes sense considering the source. This is one of my fragrances that I quite enjoy for myself while putzing around the house but I don't really know how much of a crowd pleaser it is as I haven't worn it out into the world yet. I would agree that it has above average performance for a cologne and seems to be very versatile, easily dressed up or down. For me, it's a love, but I find I have to be in the mood for it. When I am though, it really hits the spot much better than say, Paris - Edimbourg or Cipresso di Toscano, which, while both having different notes with the exception of vetiver, fill the same space.

Fantastic scent with a hint of licorice in the background that adds character. Above average performance. I'd love to grab a bottle here in Canada, but with the $160 price tag, I'll wait for a discount or until it sells at online discounters.

My most complimented. Licorice note is amazing. Dress it up or with T-shirt and jeans. What a nice surprise.

I now got a travel spray of this one, and can follow-up on my first impressions to do a full review: Opens with a beauiful of herbal/floral citrus. Then, a (beautiful again) petitgrain supported by aromatics and a sweet patchouli that pops-in. It's only in the base that the smoky vetiver, supported by spices, will fully bloom. Also, I get an impression of light musky orange blossom. Average performance. Overall a very nice simple citrusy/herbal/spicy vetiver fragrance with patchouli support, but clearly overpriced for what it delivers. Will enjoy my travel spray, and possibly think at a full bottle, but only when/if it will be hard discounted at some point. Spring, 25+

A vetiver frag without vetiver listed in the pyramid? Interesting... The accurate pyramid is the following: Top Notes: Citrus and Lavender blend Heart Notes: Rosemary, Chamomile, Petitgrain, Basil Base Notes: Woody Tree Moss, Seychelles Vetiver, Haitian Vetiver and Indonesian Patchouli. I smelled the whole line and this one impressed me. Only wore it once so take it for what its worth, but this is a nice vetiver. Oakmoss gives it some zing and it really pops off my skin. Very herbal and somewhat invigorating. Nice juice 7/10

Dang... definitely gotta bite as someone else mentioned. Very mature, very masculine. For me personally, I’m not getting too much of the citrus throughout but definitely a whole lotta sharp woody tones (mainly vetiver and cedar) along with a lot of green and moss. I didn’t realize it until I read the reviews here but there is definitely a faint but very distinct black licorice going on. One thing I notice about this fragrance is the glow of spiciness. Definitely a clean fresh outta the barber shop smell. Quality fragrance for sure but a bit too much on the spicy side for me.

Nice. It actually reminds me of a brand new release by CDG named Radish Vetiver that I posted about. It could be a relative of that fragrance with two differences. 1) This Murdock release has a bite to it, but not in the retro-futuristic way of the CDG release. This is more on the classic side, if not quite what I would call traditional barbershop fare. 2) There is a distinct low-grade funk factor that radiates from this Murdock juice depending on how you catch the whiff. That's not a bad thing in my book but it's something to be aware of; almost like a "banana funk" that is reminiscent of the infamous original version of Bat by Zoologist Perfumes. It could just be something in my chemistry that funks it up. Maybe yours too? It's worth noting that Vetiver also lasts much longer than others fragrances from Murdock that I've tried. It performs like an EDT/EDP rather than a cologne. Go easy on the trigger because this stuff will stick around for quite some time. With Vetiver, Murdock continues to impress me with its pricey yet well-done line of colognes.

Wow this is the best vetiver fragrance I ever had Just amazing Too bad is hard to find in the usa My brother send it to me from London and is worth every penny I think he paid around 170 usd Very long lasting and I got so many compliments is strange people don’t talk about this more in the community

This has become my signature for the summer. My favorite vetiver over TF and Guerlain.

Through and through this smells like licorice, spiced with nutmeg. The end.
