Close To Midnight

This fragrance make my eyes shiny. It actually moves me to tears (for that matter, it does not bring me any sad or happy memories). Yesterday, I have sprayed a small amount of Close to Midnight on a piece of tissue. Since, at home, it has been calling me throughout the day. Need to dip my nose into it. As much as I dislike Angel for its loudness and sweetness and the too-much-in-your-faceness, this fragrance crept up to me and there is no escaping. I happily surrender. After the first spray, you get kind of knocked down by the oriental scent of sweet coffee and jasmine, followed by ambergris, labdanum, tonka bean and musk - in fact, all notes that it claims to contain. After 12 hours or so, all notes are still easily distinguishable. It appears I am describing a heavy creation. However, it also has a light and fresh accent (jasmine). What I find superb with this eau de parfum is that close-by, the scent is attractive and warm, but also when you walk past, the scent is a different one, containing vanilla (or to be graphic: the smell of Tic Tac - for those who know this candy: it is what you smell when you put your nose in a Tic Tac box and you inhale very hard), equally interesting and attractive. I would consider this to be rather feminine. This is clearly a night fragrance, but I don't care, I will break the rules and I will wear it whenever I like. Probably often. Yummy. P.S. It has a very balsamic, resinous opening that slowly dries down into a sweet amber with lots of vanilla and labdanum. Delicious and smooth. It’s my type of fragrance for fall and winter and it’s also different than the others in the same vein from my collection. It’s an amber with something unique. I’m intrigued... Opens with a coffee note, some reviews said they could smell the coffee, I personally cannot say I detected it very well. Actually, I don't get any coffee at all at any stage of development on my skin. If it’s in here, it’s very subtle. Jasmine is very well blended, but it is another note not very pronounced on me. But it pairs perfectly with the sweetness and the richness of amber and tonka beans, offering the scent a bit of complexity. It’s give you this warm feeling that would be perfect for a date night or just staying in bed with your partner. I love this! The price is not too bad and the bottle looks nice. I might get a bottle of Close to Midnight in the future if I can find it!

This is by far my favourite scent from this brand. It`s an intoxication juice in the best sense possible. The way coffee blends with tonka bean, jasmine and musk is heavenly. This is my new addiction that I cannot seam to get enough off. Interesting fact, did you know the creator of this scent based this perfume based on the Michael Jackson song Thriller, the name of the scent "Close to midnight" in fact are the first three words of lyrics for Thriller. And indeed this scent is exhilarating, I think this could be what "falling in love" smells like - absolutely addictive, soothing and exhilarating at the same time. Amazing stuff! Surprised there are so few reviews on this which makes me think people have not discovered this gem yet.

I love this perfume! Love at first sniff! I’m very much reminded of noir pour femme by tom ford, but a much more elevated and more elegant version. Much less sweet. I have a decant and will hunt down a bottle. I can’t really define the notes very well here. What I’m getting seems to be a bit more sweet than the notes would suggest. I don’t get flowers (Jasmin), I get a sort of cappuccino with a bit of chocolate syrup (it’s not dry so not the cacao powder). One of my favorite discoveries so far of 2022!!!!

This one is a really nice blend of coffee with sweet jasmine, warm notes of labdanum and sensual notes of ambergris and light musks. This is very well blended that no note stands in the way of each other and comes out as warm, comforting and slightly sweet. Very unique offering from musicology. Longevity is poor for a cold based fragrance. It lasts about 6 to 7 hours with 1st hour soft to moderate projection.

A great discovery for me! I got a tester with another purchase from a Jovoy and couldn't stop wearing it so I got myself a full bottle! This is a highly intoxicating perfume in my opinion, the combination of coffee and jasmine have a unique olfative sense and along with Amber, tonka bean and labdanum make a unique perfume! Is refreshing and I would say all year round ! Highly recommended 👌

this is awesome. the only one i liked from the line. musky, coffee-vanilla. not too sweet. and i get a strong boozy vibe, even though nothing boozy is listed. the jasmine makes it smell just a little bit dirty. overall not a dirty fragrance though. the jasmin just pushes it from afternoon coffee to close-to-midnight, from a cafe house to a cozy plushy night bar, from rated 15 to 18+

Ambery Coffee with a bit of Tonka! This is sooo beautiful! I have a few already in my collection that similar to this not dupes but in the same essence. This is gorgeous though!

The opening is very very coffee-like, but more of a coffee-sandalwood than a coffee-jasmine (I like extra pure jasmine so much that in another context, I have a hard time seeing it appear). The cistus and tonka accord does come in later, in relatively equal proportions, and is giving rise to this powerful amber feeling that requires some build to wear, slightly floral, and is (surprisingly) not super sweet-sticky heady (compared to others in the collection, or other references in the field). The ambergris is interesting on my side because it jumps out at me once in a while, without warning, and then disappears almost as quickly under the general composition. Well, I also have a little note of sandalwood, but I tend to smell a bit of it everywhere... It really mellows out after that and becomes softer. It lives up to its name, it's a nighttime scent for sure. I think it's well-balanced (whereas this type of pyramid usually tends to make me feel nauseous), but it is not an outstanding achievement.

A straightforward amber scent with a slight twist at the opening, but it quickly settles into a linear, familiar warmth. Longevity is average, and projection is weak, making it an intimate wear. Unless you’re an amber enthusiast looking to collect every option out there, this one doesn’t stand out. Rating: 2.5/5 As my taste changes with time, I started to reach for this bottle more often. Something comforting about its simplicity. Second edit: this has become a frequent bottle in my rotation.

Simple composition: amber and some coffee. The amber is not too sweet, and the coffee is mostly noticeable in opening. Dries down to Tonka and musk. Lasts OK and projection is low. Not bad, but also sorta meh.

In its essence it is a coffee centered perfume, very heavy on this note. Sweetened, tonka is prevalent too. I can sense the labdanum, but it's in the background, somewhere far away, coffee grounds is still the main player. As I don't appreciate coffee scents, pass.

A smooth ambery scent, that feels very rounded, balanced, calm, enveloping. I see people here mentioning the coffee note, personally, I get more ambery warm feeling and then I may get hints of coffee note, but I don't depict that black kind of espresso coffee note, here it's very smooth and goes very well with tonka note, that makes this perfume a tiny bit sweet. If we think about this perfume as a coffee scent then It's totally a grown-up, luxurious coffee scent, that could easily be used for occasions when you want to dress up a bit. Totally unisex, but I just can not stop but imagine a man wearing it! I totally recommend this perfume for males that like gourmand scents. Beautiful and attractive perfume feels very high quality. I think this could totally be a crowd pleaser, I can not imagine a person not liking this.

This isn't what I was hoping for. Close to Midnight is certainly a quality fragrance. But I keep getting cinnamon, which isn't listed in the notes but seems to come out in the top and middle notes on my skin. Literally smells like Watkins cinnamon extract to my nose! I was hoping for something more like a rich, smooth coffee but maybe there's just more amber in this than I prefer or something. This just isn't a keeper for me. But for those who love spice and coffee notes, this might be a winner for you!

This is amazing! If you love your golden dallah, follow, awake and indoxicated style fragrances this coffe explosion scent is right for you. I'ma huge coffee fan and find musicology's release very much in line with other delicious coffee fragrances currently on the market. It dries into sexy tonka amber scent and lasts fr 7h on my skin, more so on clothes. Great winter morning scent

This does not work with my skin. Once it settles in after the initial spray, it smells dirty, like I haven't showered. After some time, it turns very powdery, it kinda reminds me of fresh diapers. Not a fan.

This is way more tonka heavy than I was expecting. Which is fine because I love tonka. I can’t say I really get coffee, maybe a bit of the same coffee that you get in black opium. Definitely unisex.

There's a nutty aspect to this, like almonds. It's warm and ambery - coffee is only perceivable for the first hour. Medium projection for 2-3 hrs.

For me its smells more like brown sugar or even a milk chocolate, but in more elegant way.
