The keyword that really fooled me was: a mellow tea scent. Mellow! It’s true that the fragrance smells like strong black tea—completely unsweetened, with no hint of jasmine. To me, it smells like tea that has been sitting for hours in a clay teapot, almost on the verge of going stale. I come across that kind of nearly stale tea quite often at small food stalls around my neighborhood. The scent feels “rounded,” with a dark vibe to it, but for me it doesn’t evoke a mellow feeling at all. Instead, it makes me imagine someone with a gloomy heart, trying to conceal the bitterness within them.
