1916

Bought both the original and the lavanda from FN but they were unfortunately damaged (actually the original's bottle was smashed into pieces) so the whole package was soaked by the juice (what a luxurious test!). The 1916 original is so lemony, citric and herbal (and tangy and fruity even in a rotten/fermented way) that I personally prefer it over 4711 original (The latter is softer and lighter with more orange blossom). Plus they are not that similar to my nose. Poor longevity like 4711. Good price value. Great summer colognes. The lavanda, which I'll comment here, is natural but sweeter, warm and somewhat powdery and leans more to the feminine side (and to me personally lavender is "floral" rather than "aromatic"), so it's not quite my type. Not for hot summer. Good longevity!

I don’t expect anyone outside of Spain to know of this cologne but as someone born and raised in Catalonia this is a staple. Both of my maternal grandparents used this and my grandpa still keeps a full bottle in the bathroom at all times. It’s affordable, fresh, citrusy and clean. Yes, it only lasts 1 hour tops, but the amount of nostalgia attached to it is eternal. Had a bottle shipped to me in the USA and just like my grandpa I keep it in my bathroom. Can’t stop smelling it!!! Feels like home to me.

That's an excellent, unisex and not quite popular (out of Spain) summer frag, in the pure Mediterranean tradition: citruses and herbs, an airy breeze in the sunshine. I bought a huge 400 ml bottle some years ago in Barcelona and I used it in a smaller atomizer. Imo, this way it lasts longer on skin and fabrics. Not very potent, of course, so you can literally splash it or spray it all over, all day long. Half the quality of Acqua di Parma at a one fifth of the price (or less!). A deserved 8+/10.

great summer fragrance for the beach or after exercising, very fresh and citrusy, doesnt last too long so i carry around a purse spray of it and spritz away

This is a lovely little citrus/floral that consits of rosemary, orange blossom, lemon and bergamot. The lemon and bergamot appear sharp and crisp initally with the orange blossom and rosemary being the more dominant notes throughout its wearing. Feel free to pour it on, as it's not overpowering at all and it's likely to be gone after a couple of hours, but it's what is expected. I say it's a worthwhile citrus to have on your shelf. Also - I am not sure the relationship to other bottles of 1916. Mine is "Agua de Colonia: 1916" - and I see some other bottles for sale that just say 1916 that have different labels and boxes and whatnot.

Very simple cologne, identified by the rosemary. It is NOT sweet, rather nectary hesperidic. It's not a generic summer splash. It is unique like Mugler cologne is and I wouldn't guess it to be universally appealing away from the Mediterranean region. I buy the huge splash bottles, to which it is easy to add some glycerin. I've decanted and experimented adding touches of essential oil. Use non phototoxic citrus - such as distilled (only) lime or bergamot. Neroli and Lavender. Careful with essential oil rosemary - test a bit first. Mixes well with vetiver and patch.

Current formulation from DeRuy is a faint, soulless scent... Probably only useful as an aftershave splash.

I recently purchased the original 1916, 1916 Limon & Tonka and 1916 Lavanda Mediterranea. For some reason I cant find it here under De Ruy Perfumes. In my opinion, the flankers are superior to the original. Limon & Tonka - has a gentle sweetness in the dry down. It smells super clean and gentle; almost like a baby product or cologne, or even a hand cream. It's refreshing, sweet and gentle in a soapy way. Lavanda Mediterranea - my favorite. The lavender is so natural, yet very gentle. It is a lovely, comforting, clean scent. I can see this as a bedtime or linen scent as well. Should also mention this is a fantastic fragrance for the price.

This is a very nice, fresh, classic cologne. It can be found in some perfume shops in Spain, like Mercadona.
