Nueva Maja

Myrurgia: Nueva Maja. Vintage splash bottle. Date of manufacture unknown. Soapy aldehydes, lavender and geranium with a soft bouquet underneath. Carnation, narcissus, rose, orange flower, jasmine, iris. Aromatic, herbal, floral soapy heaven with sweet, spicy potpourri goodness from the clove, cinnamon, and nutmeg. As it progresses, the scent improves. Powdery, earthy, woody, with orris, soft leather, and musks. There's a lot going on, I wish more of the modern releases had bases that smelled this sophisticated and pleasant. Unique, stunning, this has become a favorite. It has filled a void in my collection that I wasn't aware existed. The Spanish colognes I have tested are distinctive and fairly unique, I must try more of them. Unisex, long lasting, rather powerful. You can find large bottles of vintage Nueva Maja online at low prices, and it is worth every penny. Comparisons? There is nothing quite like it. Somewhere between the soft florals of L'Heure Bleue and the earthiness of Vol de Nuit, with a spicy, aromatic potpourri blend rather than French herbs. Edit to say: the modern formula smells good in the opening, a spicy, aromatic floral blend, but the base is greatly reduced, soapy musks and synthetic patchouli. It doesn't smell as good or last as long as the vintage bottles.

Als meisje van zes in de zeventies kreeg ik het cadeau van een Spaanse collega van mijn vader. Grote geur voor een klein meisje 😅. Later kreeg ik steeds de eau de toilette 🥰 Nooit meer iets geroken wat in de buurt kwam. Warm, fris, poederachtig, verzorgd, kruidig, groen, roos. Aanwezig en niet overheersend, het was mijn luchtje. En voor dit grote meisje later een exotisch en sensueel geurtje. Het stak in de eighties af tegen de zoete muskgeurtjes van Miss Sporty en de onschuldige bloemmenwatertjes van My Melody en de Limara deo's. Nu de geur zo enorm is veranderd, zelfs de talkpoeder ruikt niet meer zo en de zeep een beetje, ben ik op een hopenloze queste geraakt. Via de gewelige geuren van Venice YR, Ispahan YR, Rose Cardin, Opium YSL, Shalimar Guerlain op zoek naar een parfum of eau de toilette die op de originele Maja lijkt. Help!!!

A master piece of perfumery to me. The current one (it no longer belongs to Myrurgia as that house is disappeared) produced in Mexico, is way less than a pale shadow of this gem. Such a pity...

I picked up a vintage dabber, black bottle with gold lettering. Based on the notes/reviews on this website, I felt that it would be right up my alley. On my skin this is an aromatic, faintly soapy black-tea, anchored by a bouquet of dried flowers. There is also an incredibly subtle spiciness to it but I would definitely not call this a warm spicy fragrance. It's open, damp, dare I say hinting at fresh/wet. My nose appreciates the rose and Jasmine...but I'm also smelling galbanum somehow...which gives things a green hue. The musk is lovely. I'm not in love....but I don't dislike her either. I think she's really unique and I totally appreciate her beauty....we're good coworkers but not soul mates.

If you hate it when you first use it, wait for it to dry some. Then, smell it again. You might hate it a little less.
