Jannet El Baqui Original

Nabeel’s ‘Jannet El Baqui’ is a sensation. It arrived sealed in a tiny box, but once open, it had leaked so much inside, the label was peeling off. It was a complete mess, but the potent aroma now hitting me was exactly what I’d been looking for. It smelt like luxury soap - the kind kept in the kings own royal (solid gold) soap dish. The juice itself looks like a dark green pond-scum potion, in a no-frills bottle, but inside contains the greatest kept Arabian attar secret. It reminded me of Amouage Gold man, just minus the snarling civet. It’s not like Gold woman (or No.5) as it hasn’t got that Johnson & Johnson oily-sweet baby product whiff. It’s very much like a tiny bottle containing that illusive drop of top-secret magic that Amouage use, but only costing just over £6. I wore it to work today, in an attempt to ward off of my colleague’s stinking winter illnesses (like how plague doctors used herbs and flowers in the long-nosed beaks of their spooky looking black masks). My colleague remarked; “Did you rub an entire bar of Dove soap into yourself?” I took that as a compliment, as clinliness should be the ultimate smell to aspire to... one would think anyway. Most of the time, my colleagues smell like they rub their own shit into themselves, so why not get smelling clean trending? They seem to think their raging B.O is an acceptable social scent. I digress... Basically, for under £10, Nabeel’s ‘Jannet El Baqui’ is Amouage quality for the price of a sandwich and packet of crisps. The secret is out. You’ll thank me later.

First to review... again.... Its a good thing I like blind buys. This stuff is so potent that I could smell it inside the paper bag before I opened it!! The aldehydes project enormously and join forces with papyrus and patch to emanate a strong, soapy, almost green essence. I can pick up the spices and rose but they don't dominate here, the rest of the notes keep a back seat and make a quiet contribution but do not divert the senses from the strong and overtly green impression. Very very strong, only the smallest amount would do if one wants to truly appreciate this oil. Nabeel oils have this good characteristic (assuming one likes them), the oils have a gigantic longevity and sillage. This is a soapy, pungent, musky, green scent that can work really well in hot weather. For those who love green, soapy aldehydic fumes this is a must.

My word, this is the strongest fragrance on the planet. It is the classic "luxury soap" profile that has a piercing aldehyde and bright lemon, with a thick musky base and rich green floral heart. It reminds me of the soapy aspect of Kouros, even ever so slightly of the original Dolce Gabanna with its potent aldehydes. It's very fresh in that regard, but does not smell "fine" it almost borders on industrial air freshener, this is the same complaint many have with Kouros. This composition also lacks any of the warm spiciness that the aforementioned fragrances develop. Pretty tough to wear to be honest
