Naj-Oleari (Vintage Edition)

I wore this in the early 90s and recently got a partial bottle off mercari at a reasonable price. It's an aldehydic sweet rose with spiciness. In my memory this was similar to Eternity, maybe the spiciness made me think so. Other than that, they are not similar at all.

Naj-Oleari The name is the hyphenated Italian surname of the brand's founder, ...the brand itself dealt variously in accessories, cosmetics, ...and fragrance. This fragrance is a curious fragrance, with a scent profile that has never been common. Primarily aldehydes and fresh aromatics, most notably a dry coriander. There are also mildly sweet, but indistinct, rose-led florals, ..and a woody (cedar) base, tinged with vanilla, ...but again, only lightly so. A fragrance made today with those listed notes would be all about vanilla and rose, ..but here, those notes are treated only as incidental accessories. Ultimately, this Naj Oleari is a light scent of vague affinities, ... perhaps suitable for any occasion, ...but essential to none. Its memorably odd (and tippy) half-circle bottle, crowned with turquoise cone evocative of both a dunce cap and Bugles brand corn snacks, must certainly join the ranks of Lou Lou and Romeo Gigli as unrepeatably unique commercial perfumery flacons.
