Old Money

Another excellent offering from Naughton & Wilson. Old money is a beautiful, refined and unique three season scent. I wont analyse the multitude of notes as there are a lot of them. But as an overview its wonderfully blended and incorporates all the ingredients listed to make a distinctive, slightly old school, masculine scent that will put you a heads length in front of any crowd. It's evolves gently but noticeably throughout it's 8-10 longevity. Then a luxurious skin scent for many hours. It's not a projection monster but it's more than adequate for the man who wants to make a mark without shouting. This is an elegant scent with an even more stylish profile. This feels to me like an established fella or an up and coming go-getter. For the man who embraces modernity but still has a fondness for tradition and the finer things. It'll see out a workday easily with panache and class to spare. The quality is so obvious for all to see. This is a perfume that shines but even more so in moderate temperatures. So overall, artisanally high quality, solid performance with a distinctive profile that is suitable for any and every scenario except perhaps a red hot day at the beach. I don't know how N&W combined with John Stephen keep producing such distinguished fragrances at this price! Great value, amongst the best on the market in my view. I can't wait to wear this over the autumn and winter months along with their Chypre Fulminare and Arezzo lines....in fact either of their Gravitas fragrances will work too! Not affiliated in any way but just a guy who enjoys high quality perfumery.....especially when it's so competitively priced.

Old Money by Naughton & Wilson is a beautifully blended fragrance that makes it difficult to tease out individual notes—and that’s part of its charm. While Old Money evokes the aura of a classic fragrance, it never feels dated. Instead, it strikes a modern balance: refined, warm, and inviting. There’s a subtle sweetness—almost a hint of honey—that adds to its comforting character. Wearing Old Money feels like sinking into a well-worn leather chair with a special drink in hand at the end of the day: relaxing, cozy, and effortlessly elegant. Overall, it’s another outstanding release from Naughton & Wilson. The value for the price is exceptional, and the presentation is equally commendable.

Definite departure for N&W but a great addition to their line up. Hits a lot of different notes than their other fragrances, and slightly more contemporary a scent too. To my nose it reminds me a lot of L’Instant D’Homme by Guerlain but that’s not a bad thing at all. Very classy formal, evening fragrance that hits the spot in specific situations.

The Maraschino Cherry is very apparent in opening. A boozy cherry. I guess that's to appease modern young noses. Is that new New Money? Gourmand seems to be part of everything nowadays. All this because cherries hold no association to old money aesthetics for me. Anyhow, the cherry note subsides quickly, and after 5 minutes a cocoa accord takes over, probably from the patchouli note. It smells sort of like chocolate cherry cordials. Maybe it replicates a Viennese dessert table at some swanky Old Money country club soiré . Otherwise, no. There is only a rather mild, diffuse, background sweetness through the drydown, coming from quite reserved clove, dried fruit, and what remains of the cherry note. I love dried fruit notes, but it is really supportive in this scent. The background sweetness is well proportioned and blended with the earthy accords formed by the sage, juniper, Cypress, Galbanum, tobacco, cedar, oak and Vetiver notes. I wish the tobacco were more prominent. Again, everything in the drydown seems subdued and supportive, despite the impressively expansive note listing. I completely understand the comparison to L'Instant de Guerlain, because Old Money resembles it in the drydown. Different in the opening though. On test blotter I was thinking maybe a touch of Nasomatto Pardon in the opening, drying down to L'Instant de Guerlain. It may give slight vibes of Amouage Jubilation XXV also. Performance is reserved. Like L'Instant de Guerlain, it sticks close to the skin. Only the boozy cherry flies off the skin, and that is only in the immediate opening. Overall I think I like the scent profile of Old Money more than L'Instant de Guerlain, but I'm only a moderate admirer of that popular fragrance. As a replication, or appropriate accessory, of an Old Money aesthetic I think Old Money is only moderately successful. I still think of Polo Green and Oxford by Roberto Ugolini as archetypal Old Money scents. Formal, austere, traditional and classic. The cherry alone throws this off that tried and true course. It might get you kicked out of the country club for such deviancy. Good overall scent, disappointing performance that doesn't offer me unsolicited wafts well into the drydown, and a scent profile that should more appropriately be named New Money rather than Old Money.

Yea I'm intrigued. I love the concept of an "Old Money" scent profile, and have several myself now in my collection. Of course there's Ralph Lauren's Polo. And Oxford by Roberto Ugolini qualifies as well. The note listing of this look good. I'm a big dried fruit and cloves fan, but it looks like there is something much more going on in this scent profile. If Dan would sell sample decants on his website we could try before we buy, but he won't.

When i read the note listing, i couldnt really imagine exactly what this smells like. I like that.

That's a note listing that would make even Roja Dove blush. Maybe... 🤣
