Neandertal Light

I have a sample of this perfume. It lasts between 10 - 12 hours with a high intensity. This perfume has a woody, green and aromatic output, when those beginning aromas relax a little we begin to feel the animal body of the perfume where we find the animal ensemble of white amber, leather and musk. The curious thing about this perfume or those aromas is the metallic olfactory note, you can feel that this aroma is in between the woody aromas. I confess that at first that metallic aroma was strange to me, it is what happens to me with new aromas and that I am not used to, but it is an aroma that as you use it adapts to your skin and adapts to your smell even takes on a very interesting shape within these aromas. within these scents is to take the primary scents and combine them in a new way, they are scents that do not go unnoticed and the set is a perfume with a lot of personality, for those people who want a unique perfume that represents them. If I could resent this aroma so that you understand its aromas, I will tell you ... it is like being inside a cave where you can smell the aroma of your skin, the aroma of the skins with which you dress. You can smell the iron stone part of the cave and when you go outside the cave you get a breath of air from the outside that brings to your nose the aromas of the conifers and plants around you. Unisex? Like many niche perfumes it is a scent for those who fall in love with it, but in my personal opinion I think it is more on the masculine side. Probably the woody, aromatic aromas and the use of animal notes of gray amabar and leather ... they have always shown us so much on the masculine side that finally we are not used to those aromas and I have the impression that my partner is left much better. Extravagant? more than extravagant I would say that it is novel, we find aromas that we know but combined with aromas that are pure guardian of aromas, to react our smell, to awaken sleeping scents. Will everyone like it? possibly not, is that bad? no, it is not bad, the special scents, with their own personality are not created to please everyone, they look for the person who really wants to be a unique aroma carrier.

One of the most intriguing and addictive fragrances I've ever smelled! This is my first review because I had to contribute and write about this one! Imagine you're in the mountains, it's spring, the sun is shining, it's warm so you're wearing a white t-shirt but there's a lot of snow around that's starting to melt. Under the snow the forest is hidden, peeking from underneath. You're sitting by the stream, the water is running over ice and bare rocks and metal ores. The backpack is off, you're bringing the spring water to your mouth with your hands. The hike is over, now let this raw oasis provide. That's my understanding of this smell, with time passing more snow is melting and woods is more present. Great projection and eternal longevity.

This has now become my favorite fragrance to date. Neandertal Light opens fresh, with a strong violet leaf and beautiful hinoki. This fragrance smells like a dark, wet and damp cave, walls littered with quartz, brightened by a hole in the rock ceiling, where piercing sunlight shines through. As it dries down, you get a lot more salty metallic-ness, and it almost gets thicker, the orris and woody base showing you to the roots of this leafy atmosphere. I agree with what some others say, it oddly seems to project better as it dries down. Lasts about 12 hours, projects arms length for a good while. The price is very steep, but this scent is absolutely amazing, perfectly unisex, perfectly wearable.

I understand the notes listed ... somewhat. However I may have not liked this perfume if I was not born in my country of birth, here in Sri Lanka. The fragrance is nothing short of childhood memories under a mango tree. The fragrance is of raw, tender mangoes. light green skin and flesh, extremely sour and crunchy (like apples) with the smell of resinous sap flowing from the bark of the tree. For this, I love this fragrance. I think the sour notes are coming from the Hinoki. But its a sentimental Raw Mango. Sillage and Longevity are above average. However I cannot commit myself to spending so much for a raw mango note : )

The best of the Neanderthals in my view. It has a saw-edge freshness similar to that of Tyrannosaurus Rex (Zoologist perfumes), which has also had excellent reviews. I also think of J. del Pozo's Quasar for men, a fruity-woody aromatic fragrance from the 1990's. This fruity-raspberry aspect recalls plicatone, a pine-woody material from Firmenich. There is perhaps some resemblance to the odour of fresh sweat, without being at all unpleasant, suggestive rather of the hardworking alpha male. Very good.

ive found it hard to find a fragrance with a really clear metallic note, and for me this is it - clean, cold, and oddly at home amongst the vegetal elements surrounding it. for me, it starts off very complex and simplifies as it dries down - i seemed to lose the metallic note over time, and over all it became sweeter. it evokes such a specific green in my mind; bright moss just peeking through snow interface - sgarz

Blind bought it and expected much more weirdness considering that I read all the reviews below. Nothing that strange and offensive, at least to my nose it smells like pomelo, fresh clean linen and metal. So basically smells like you are waiting in a sterile room, on a stainless steel bed, covered by fresh clean linen, while eating a pomelo.

Absolutely amazing. Somehow smells very futuristic/otherworldly and yet so naturalistic and of this earth at the same time. It lifts me up and calms me at the same time. One of my favorites. Smells very similar to Neandertal Them, with a little more brightness than Them. Both are such cozy, unique, addictive scents.

I am blown away by this whole line of perfumes! As my introduction to perfumery I was somewhat scared trying something so contemporary and expensive, but I’m glad I sampled this! Green and metallic and subtly woody. It’s fresh, but not necessarily refreshing. I can’t stop smelling my wrist!

Adore this scent. The cold, metallic and spice are the most persistent notes for me, very unisex leaning slightly male. The dry down is consistently spice heavy, I was pleasantly surprised it didn't lose a lot of that initial addictive hit that makes the eyebrows raise.

OMG!!! It’s a fresh, green beast. Primitive and sharp but soft on the bottom. If Orto Parisi seems to be funky then this one is super funky. As I am niche guy I love this one. So much happens, so deep and inovative ... and the bottle. Amazing smell

I sampled this one several times and i always come out impressed. Vibrant, bright, green, sharp but smooth. I see the resemblance with Kouros but without the acerbic and a bit animalic edge of Kouros. Will get a bottle soon.

Neandertal's Light is less about light and more about the gleam of metal. Chanel's No. 18 and Parfum d'Empire's Le Cri, as examples, are a lot more convincing abstractions of "light" in a perfume, with No. 18 taking light and pushing it through a prism to create a kaleidoscope of colors, and Le Cri casting a blinding glow into your face. Neandertal's Light is the soft reflection of an LED or fluorescent light glinting off of a piece of polished aluminum - and it smells more of the polished metal than the colors or warmth of light. The synthetic petroleum like note of violet leaf and the inflexibly bitter, vegetal, and woody aroma of galbanum combine with cypress to create a bright, silvery, and resinous accord at the top of the perfume. The bright, impenetrable, white center of a light reflection off of a piece of metal? - that's what this smells like. Once the top dispenses the perfume goes into a linear and monodimensional mode of polished aluminum or silver thanks to clever utilization of synthetic materials for iris, leather, musk, and great heaping doses of some ozonic material. The iris/orris is dry and cold and powdery, the leather is of tanning chemicals, the musks are soapy which give a clean and smooth feeling, and I also suspect high amounts of adoxal to bolster the iris and provide the ozonic note in both texture and aroma: in summation, metal. However, enough of the starchy floral side of the iris is present, and enough of the animalics of the leather are present, that when combined with the musk they mostly-convincingly ride the line of a floral suede accord. The whole of the perfume is lightweight, clean, fresh, and very breathable. Neandertal says Light is supposed to be the exact opposite of their perfume Dark, which, yes, is an obvious statement, but "exact opposite" is almost an understatement. Dark is so devoid of light, and so dark from an emotional perspective as well, that wearing it feels like you're in the bowels of hell, but as an exact opposite Light doesn't quite feel heavenly. There isn't enough brightness, warmth, or joy for heaven, but it feels more like a very well-lit and immaculately clean industrial space. It's a pretty striking experience for a perfume, and not the least bit unpleasant. It's a sterile, spartan, and highly functional space that you actually enjoy being in. Neandertal is a bit late to this party though. Light is not treading terra incognita with its light+metal abstraction. Comme des Garcons have been-there-done-that several times, as has Serge Lutens, numerous commercial and designer houses, even L'Artisan Parfumeur and Amouage. Does Neandertal's Light stick-out from the pack? Not especially. It's quite good, definitely thumbs up, but I'm not sure it's good enough to splash some considerable cash on a full bottle when the CdGs I already own are casting more convincing light.

Perfume newbie. I have a degree in Anthropology/Archeology so when I saw the brand and the flint knapped bottle I knew I would be getting a sample. The notes listed on the sample box are different from those listed here: “leaves, incense, hinoki, orris, galbanum, leather, ambergris.” The initial opening is indeed straight leaves—not fresh green leaves, but the dry brown leaves you step on to crunch in early winter. There’s a very cold, metallic, salty middle to this. If a robot could cry and sweat, it would be this. It stings your nose when you breathe in too deeply, but not in a way you’re really averse too. There’s something about this that’s kind of plasticky too, but I can’t put my finger on it. It reminds me of a weird mix between Zoologist’s Tyrannosaurus Rex and ELDO’s Ghost in the Shell. The incense and leather are more subtle, and tie together the nature and animatic notes with the metallic notes and ambergris. The orris is even more subtle, but really nice and buttery. I think this is actually a very wearable scent, especially for men. I don’t know exactly what Neandertal had in mind for Light specifically, but their collection is one exploring opposites. If Dark is a scent capturing humanity’s past, Light is evocative of a future of androids and industry. Not something I would buy a full bottle of, but a really interesting journey that I enjoyed.

This is an amazing composition by the perfumer. I am unfamiliar with the smell of Hinoki Wood but I am familiar with Ambergris & Musk and those two little animals are in abundance. This is a beast of a scent. It swings opens the shutters of my senses hard and fast. It then begins to oscillate between waves of green & then plastic. It's like 80's Neo-Expressionism Art in a weird Mountain bottle that has a sophisticated cool about it. What's not to love!? Then suddenly around hour two the green waves disappear & you get whales tales & cat whiffs for the long decline off the mountain. It is not an experience I want to have often. I appreciate Light Neandertal very much, however I'm more enamored with the dark. Give this whirl but I recommend getting a sample in advance.

My experience of Neandertal Light is the smell of hot metal overlaid with the deep vegetal aspects of humus (not to be confused with hummus). It makes me think of a small clan of hominids pushing available technology to the limit for their very survival while living in close proximity to their midden. I find it intriguing. It has staying power and can project for quite some time. My wife absolutely loathes it, describing it as "chemical-y" and "sharp". (I concede she's not wrong in her description.) She can smell it from across the room almost as soon as I come into the house 12 hours after putting it on. One of my colleagues also rather dislikes this fragrance. I wear it to work only when he has particularly pissed me off.

A neanderthal take on a slightly ozonic/aquatic fresh green frag. I can't place the exact note, but it really reminds me of something vegetal, the closest I can get is a cucumber note, but this is way more aromatic and sharp. Like a cold gust of wind looking over a plane in the arctic circle, the faint greenery of spring, immediately followed with the smell of an unforgiving ice and sea. It's not animalic or woody in the sense you'd expect, but it just has that Neanderthal DNA - a primordial, rough twist on a clean scent.

SO MUCH is going on here. Ozonic and metallic notes are mixed with coriander and natural freshness. After a while, ambergris and leather enter the scene. And there is an interesting hint of cabbage pith as well. It's like a punch of cruel and beautiful nature in your nose. Neandertal is a very accurate name for this kind of thing! Probably one of the most complex perfumes I've ever smelled. Highly recommend trying! 10 ooga boogas of 10.

This is an unusual, amazing fragrance. I never smelled something like that. Ambergris is the first note I detected. But in fact, in a few minutes, it changes several times revealing a multitude of facets: animalic, green, incense, metallic, humid wood (patchouli). It is like a chameleon. I think the name is well done... there is something raw and wild in this perfume, something transporting back to the origins of humanity.

I DO enjoy this one, but a little too clean for what I prefer. Personally do not find it animalic, but a really well blended scent, more clean and fresh (what you use to wash the animalic away). It feels like being awake, like morning after a shower with lots of sunlight.

I was on a journey to find the most challenging fragrance i could find so i was running through ouds left and right and realized that ouds just dont bother me. Then i found this and realized i was looking in the wrong place. My kryptonite is Ambergris, and let me tell you, this stuff takes a salty, dripping handful of it and shoves it down your throat. I can taste this when i smell it. Its salty, its sweaty, its....an aftertaste that you cant get rid of. It smells like a big gulp of ocean water tastes. I could never wear this but can absolutely appreciate what its doing. If you like salty, ambergris forward frags, this is for you. by the way, at this level of the hobby, who's blind buying full bottles of frags like this?

I had the opportunity to smell this and could bear just the opening which was very strong smelled like stone pieces from a mountain, I guess it's very accurate looking at the bottle you get exactly what you see. Interesting fragrance to just have a sample and show it to whomever comes over, but I don't see this as being wearable unless you like to smell like mountain rocks.

so sharp, like bitter, mossy forest floor. it smells like a clean caveman or the top of a very vegetated mountain. the bitterness is really strong to me. smells almost edible but in an unsettling way. to me, this is a winter fragrance, but like you’re part of the winter itself.

Let me just start off by saying I am sucker for niche perfumes and concept perfumes, and I love the idea of "Neandertal" and how it comes ith a hand-made art bottle in the shape of a rock. I've tried samples of both Dark and Light, and they're just not a good match for me. Dark literally gave me a headache, and I had to wash it off (maybe a review for that if I can stomach trying it again). Light smells like a milder version of Dark, but don't get me wrong, even "mild" still posseses some "beast mode" quality in terms of projection and longevity. Definitely above average. One spray will stay with you all day (or night). In terms of the scent itself? The initial blast is the richest, with some green and fruitiness and the violet leaf coming out. Drydown is very disappointing, as it ultimately smells cheap and chemical on me, somewhere between generic drug store cologne and Axe Body Spray. It's hard to even pinpoint the notes on my skin. Certainly the metallic accord dominates more than anything else. Slightly sour? I can't really detect leather or the hinoki wood. With no disrespect to the nose, between drydown and base notes just smells like "hittin' the club with my bros" on my skin, which is to say it's definitely more on the masculine side. Even though Dark was too bold for my skin, I also thought it to be a little more compelling and interesting than Light. Light feels a little more restrained and flattened, and if you're going to go with Neandertal, you might as well go all out. Extreme pass for me, but I know someone out there will love this.

There are a few fragrances that are intended to be vile. I have the likes of tyrannosaurus Rex and Inexcusable Evil. Neither of those I could considered unwearable, but this fragrance is truly unbearable. Sometimes I'll try a fragrance but my nose might not be in the right place. Then I can put it on a couple days later and understand what makes the fragrance smell good. I've tried this one five different times five different days, and every time it is the same strength and unbearable harsh chemical smell that I immediately have to wash off. I cannot find any notes good or bad past the initial metallic chemical smell. It is such a one-off from Neanderthal too, compared to how much I love the others in this collection. The only reason I bought this was because of how much I enjoyed Them!

When I was a kid I lived on a boat with my family, and we would usually anchor when we weren't underway. Every time we lifted the anchor, either my brother or I had to be stationed below deck, crouched in front of the locker where the chain was stored, redistributing it as it came in so it wouldn't get bound up on itself and jam. It was my most despised chore for years. Sometimes we would be at anchor for weeks, and so when the chain came up it was slick with algae and growths that would then rot and die during the subsequent weeks of sailing. That's the scent memory I associate with this fragrance: rusty scaly metal, slimy mud and salt water, rotting algae and tiny ocean organisms. All of it on my hands and spattering my face and filling my nose. Pass.

For my nose and taste, this is the worst fragrance I have ever buy, it was a blind buy and im not happy with what i got, it is a raw smell like a rose covered in blood while being frozen, awful, wish I could sell this to someone who appreciate it.

great perfume for binge eaters, as every time you bring your hand to your mouth you’ll become instantaneously nauseous. smells like working in the factory in mad god.

Lovely and very natural feeling. Such a beautiful, round, subtly sweet and juicy green galbanum and hinoki aroma in the opening. It's an aromatic evergreen tree with citrus facets on the one side, and a rocky stream of water surrounded by lush vegetation on the other. I've smelled things slightly similar, and I'm far from the most seasoned nose, but it's remarkable how unique and complete that picture is formed. There's a review below mentioning algae clinging to an anchor line and that's also an apt analogy. I get notions of wet rocks, broken stems, and the inner pith of a lemon. It doesn't venture fully towards marine themes, but has an element of violet leaf that feels like various herbs steeped in cucumber water. There's a warm sensuality added in the base that feels like clean sweat or some kind of subtle body odor, but it's not coming from a realistic ambergris-type accord, which can turn fecal and slightly musty. From the brand's name I thought this might be a 100% natural product (it's not), bringing a rough and ready, slightly lopsided heft to the base notes. It's instead something more modern and finely tuned, and the suggestion of CDG's Zero as a similar perfume feels slightly right. It shares a sweet and sour, metallic, and chemical-leathery nuance, but has less varnish and more of citrus evergreen facet. The next day my testing strip immediately reminded me of French Lover and I think it shares an overal structure of bitter greens, a metallic-resinous body, and a sharply warm and musky base. I'm also slightly reminded of Arborist by Jorum studio, with it's theme of a fantasy forest imbued with the scent of humans working (and playing). Definitely worth a try and I'll be waiting to get samples of their other releases now.

Gorgeous. It reminds me of that one SpongeBob episode where they go into the future and squidward kept freaking out and shouting « “FuTuRe!!” This perfume is so pretty. It makes me feel like a white fluffy mountain goat hopping from pebble to pebble on a 15,000 foot cliff just to taste some precious salt. Honestly this perfume reminds me of salt, the mountains, airy citrus, fruiter aergo, and an abstract metal art instillation that nobody understands. This perfume is amazing and totally unisex

Interesting how most reviewers interpret this one in different ways. After my third testing of a sample, I can partially relate to some of the opinions below. To me, this is a strong oris and ambergris combo. The metallic note is more an allusion in my reading and I can't really pick out any of the other notes. It is quite strong and has a retro vibe, maybe explained by the animalic reading of the base composition. It is really strong, projects well and has decent lasting power.

Such a unique perfume! For me it’s about a cold metallic and green galbanum note at first. Icy sharp and clean with juicy green tendrils. There’s also a crisp rose note here and it makes me think of a greenhouse plonked into an industrial building site. There is real beauty within all of this avante garde feeling and it’s a joy to wear. Works great in hot weather also, it slides through heat and retains its longevity very well. It’s brilliant!

I tried this in a perfume shop and was blown away. This scent is ICY cold, and I love it. I've been looking for a cold metallic for a while and was only finding hot metals; this is everything I wanted. It is pure, true WINTER in a bottle to me- not evergreens and spices, but standing outside after it's snowed about a foot and scraping ice off of the car. I couldn't stop smelling my wrist for the rest of the evening after I put it on.

i rarely say that i hate fragrances, but i haaaaaate this; the metallic accords combine with the orris to give this a really sharp, harsh quality. it's like if someone scraped rust off some scaffolding and blew it in your face...interesting conceptually but i would stay miles away from anyone who smelled like this

BEAUTIFUL. i didn't know something could smell like this. hoe-scaringly cold and metallic, with a harsh plant-y opening and a little bit of sweetness. smells distant. i don't understand how it smells distant. millions knives ass perfume

This is one of the better fragrances that is wearable from the series. Bright and primeval. Like all the fragrances a strange vibe run through this one as well. All, I feel are great works and amazing.

If you like those metallic futuristic fragrances (ie Ganymede) this one is for you. Very POTENT!

Wow... quite the olfactory experience. Get yourself a sample of this and enjoy the ride.
