Neandertal Us

I have a sample of this perfume. It has a medium intensity with a duration around 8 hours. It has an aromatic part in the beginning, first that part that you have eucalyptus, cardamom, all this together with the citrus fruits of the beginning, they will give you an aromatic part, which gives you a feeling that it has a lot of trail, the perfume and this beginning comes loaded with a lot of pepper, it is an aromatic and very spicy output at this beginning it is already an olfactory shock because the first impression is wow, I'm smelling, as it relaxes a little the perfume decays the citrus. the aromatic part is relaxed a little. Although it remains there and that hot pepper is as if it were established on the skin, the peppers stay on your skin, as we move forward and this is being the case, the citrus fruits relax, you find a part that is very particular because although You will find the incense and you can know that without problem, but you will find the tincture of hiraceun, the ladanono together with what is cade oil, united with traces of oud wood and here you have a set that you say what this is In this, of course, I realize that this perfume is different, it is special and it causes us a different sensation because it has worked with very different materials from our nose and that of course it is also common to decongest ourselves of the same perfumes as always. Above all I believe that people who like to discover, who like to experiment, find it in this type of aromas. Unisex? These types of perfumes are always for those who like them, but in my case I believe that it is more on the male side. Is it particular? a lot, it is very particular, it is not a perfume that everyone will like, it is a different perfume, it is an olfactory experience and that I will conquer whoever has to conquer neither more nor less, it is not for everyone, it is to try it , discover, that you are very passionate or that you are not passionate about anything.

This 'sounds' familiar as it has everything I like and search in woody-aromatics vetiver/cypriol based perfumes. Here everything is bashed together in smart proportions resulting in something like the chameleon effect - if you focus on the scent on the one note from the list you will find it, but you have to pay attention. You have it all here, a little smokiness, a little dirt, a little harsh, sweet, herbaceous, balsamic, amber... It's a mess, but a very enjoyable concoction and it's not even odd or weird; on the contrary, it is pleasurable and playful. Strongly reminds me of M.Buxton works, pretty molecular, somewhere in the CDG line area.

After the initial spray, it smells very smoky and burnt in a very overpowering way. I’m glad I gave it a chance and didn’t wash it off immediately. After 30 minutes, the smokiness gave way to the perfect Bulgarian Eastern Orthodox church scent of my dreams. The incense and geranium are very prominent, it reminds of when I went to a church to get baptised as a kid. Terrified by the serious atmosphere in the church, I was sure I would go to hell. Nowadays I’m an atheist but I love the meditative and intimidating aura of this fragrance. This is my new favourite and I will wear it when I want to feel powerful.

A brand new car that's been brought in for repairs at a grimey body shop. It eventually dries down to an earthy, smokey cade/vetiver base. In the same vein as some CDG creations (Garage, Tar) and Amber Kiso by D.S. & Durga. I, however, prefer this to those fragrances. The "neandertal' theme is accurate here, truly ancient and futuristic. A must-try for lovers of avant-garde and vetiver!

I love this perfume and have bought it twice now. It’s very woody and kinda smells like when youre sitting at a campfire. I recommend but don’t blindbuy it since i feel like some will either love it or absolutely hate it.

At the intersection of fine sculptural art and artisan-crafted fragrance dwells Neandertal Us. This is a totally unique scent that is masterfully blended from top quality ingredients. The scent progresses through phases where it is cold and a bit inaccessible to phases where it is familiar and warm. This is the most wearable of the Neandertal products to date. It is at once thought-provokingly abstract and satisfyingly immediate. At the open, we get eucalyptus, but an herbal, cool eucalyptus leaf, not a Vicks sharp menthol (although interestingly, my skin feels cooling where this scent hits it). The cool eucalyptus is soon joined by pepper--black and pink, which warm the scent. The resins and citrus are fleeting in the opening, but they also cool (the bergamot) and warm (the elemi). Moving into the midnotes, there is a dark smokey incense and a dry almost parchment like rose. Like a flower that has spent years between the pages of an old book. These are warm scents and they are contrasted by cool geranium and a sharp, green cardamom, both of which are cooling notes. In the base, a symphony of notes pull the whole composition together. There are Smokey elements (mostly from the labdanum and the cade) but there is also an animalic muskiness which has a leather tone. The dry down here is remarkable. It also goes on and on, as the longevity here is significant. Projection is moderate. The unique glass bottle is an artistic sculpture and would be even nicer if it would stand upright outside of its box. The atomizer used is middling and, at least in my bottle, has a tendency to deliver a sharp little stream rather than a more diffuse mist. Try to get your nose on this unisex gem if you can. It is one of the few highly conceptual avant-garde perfumes that is genuinely nice to wear. Quite an accomplishment. Recommended.

#1610 in my "Tour de Fragrance" Got this as a decant from scentsplit.com. This is a 100% try before you buy scent that is not for the masses. If you've hiked, hunted, camped and roasted your kill in uncultivated grasslands, you've smelled this. If you've been on a farm in the middle of wheatfields in drought conditions and baked meat in a pit, you've smelled this. At first the scent struck me as just very "agricultural." As it dried, I could smell the barbequed pork, but that faded out, which was a good thing, as for about ten minutes there I thought this would be interesting but intolerable. Other reviewers have used the word "primal." It is that. This is green and woody and very animalic. Once the roasted pig smell fades out it's actually a woody incense scent that I find attractive, masculine, uncivilized. It's certainly potent, unique and makes a statement. Not something I'd wear casually. But definitely on a camping trip with a significant other with whom I would "get closer to God" in the sense of that Nine Inch Nails song. If you like Nishane's "Afrika Oliphant", Zoologist "T-Rex", Serge Lutens "Musc Koublai Khan" or "La Religieuse", Amouage "Gold Man", Le Labo "Oud 27", this is your juice. Scentsplit and eBay are the only source I see ranging from $100 for 30ml to $320 for 90ml. Be sure you like it before buying. Good Luck and Good Hunting!

This is fantastic. "Us" is a basic dry smoky incense, a very standard genre, and one Euan McColl has done in many other iterations. But it's a really great execution, with something tantalizingly floral in the opening and a zingy conifer-resin quality in the heart. Dark forest green and charcoal. I think the greenness is coming from the cade oil, which is tar from the juniper tree and has a smoky, leathery, foresty scent. This is definitely an aggro cade-dominant scent, in the vein of Zoologist Tyrannosaurus Rex; apparently too intense for some (Fragrantica reviewers seem to hate it) but it's good smoky fun for me. If you like peaty whiskey and the smell of campfires in the woods, you'll like Us. The Neandertal perfume house also has really great art direction; the theme is prehistoric man, and the bottles are glass in the shape of flint arrowheads -- quite beautiful. Us is meant to evoke the Neanderthals, and it is indeed a stark, primitive fragrance. Stone, smoke, and trees; what more do you need?

“Us” opens as a firework exploding in the air — there is a blast of dry, citric elemi and the cool slap of eucalyptus right off the bat. Bright sparkles of bergamot shimmer in the night sky, then black pepper rains down like ashes on the heads of little kids craning their necks to get the best view. As time progresses, a particularly aloof incense takes over. A mentholated quality hums in the margins. Smells like withholding and repression, but is oddly appealing at the same time. I am enjoying it quite a bit. I have a few theories on what that says about me psychologically, but I digress. I wouldn't call this perfume particularly cozy or inviting. I find the name a little ironic because it smells like a lack of intimacy to me as opposed to delivering on the promise of being a scent about connection. Sometimes you just need to smell like a detached business man who works long hours to avoid his wife.

It is a very evocative, landscape perfume. Enveloping and persistent, smoky and metallic especially in the first hour, more earthy and wild plants a while later, some of the bitterness of an old lavender hanging around, I smell the rubberiness of myrrh hovering over the entire perfume. It could have been a Beaufort perfume perfectly. The image of a certain "primitive force" is very accurate. It is not a simple smell but a somewhat overwhelming perfume that an overstimulated cat tries to identify by tilting its nose towards the sky.

The dark counterpart of "them". Very smooth smokey resinous vetiver oud. Oud is quite prominent here. More earthy than warm, just like the white counterpart. Complex and very well blended. If this would be a color it would be a cold dark grey-brown. Japanese aesthetic, masculine leaning unisex. Well blended, quality ingredients. No screaming notes. Less conceptual then "us", still more conceptual than sensual, but indeed a wearable conceptual, just like Askcent commented. Very long lasting, moderate to big sillage.

Intensely peppery and smokey at the beginning, but chills out fairly quickly to the middle and base notes, especially rose and vetiver. I think this is a very well done take on a masculine smokey floral scent. I like this one quite a lot, but can't wear it for myself--smells just like my dad! I don't think this is near as weird as everyone is making it out to be. It's not a safe blind buy, but I actually think this is quite wearable, especially if you put this on and have a long commute to work lol.

Very peppery incense opening that is evoking my underlying t-rex trauma Settles into a more chill scent later but it's still not a like The smokiness is supposed to represent our dirty and polluted environment and society - so kudos for the idea behind it I like the idea but not the scent #t-rex traumatised me

Smoky and earthy, with a rubbery topnote. Reminds me of certain types of cedarwood, though this is not listed as an ingredient. Presumably "Us" is meant to represent modern humans, as it is a definite advance on "Them", a mild and inoffensive odour. Yes, that figures - fire and smoke and damage to the planet.

its weird... cuz I love smelling it... reminds me of something ancient... prehistoric times... maybe its cuz of the bottle and the name... only problem is... once I spray it on my skin.... and I wear it for like 15-30 mins I get a headache... its nice for a quick sniff in the bottle... but I made a mistake purchasing this without testing it on my skin...

This one is less off-putting than Them, but while I appreciate the craft of it all, I can't wear it. There's a lot in here I'd normally like, but it's underpinned by a sort of harsh, gasoline, leather or maybe oud backbone that's too strong and is giving me a headache.

The brand name and image absolutely nail the frags they make. This is primal, prehistoric, and sharp. Like waking up by a campfire made of pine tree branches, smelling the burning needles, and the sap sticking them together, feeling the full power of nature through the animalic notes. Smoky, aromatic, woody, and balsamic, with a punchy pepper top note. Surprisingly not photorealistic to one specific thing, more a whole idea, and very very strong. It's not for me, but if you like piercing aromatics this is for you.

I am afraid this perfume fails in theory and practice. In theory, I was hoping in "Us" to find the human/animal comfort of familiar musky bodies of your family and clan, resting in a cave, by a woody fire, wrapped in pleasant thick furs. In practice, it is none of that. The fire is synthetic, the musk and hyrax add nothing natural, uncomfortably bitter gasoline permeates from top to base, linearly for hours. I had trouble sleeping late that night it was so horrid.

I had a bad experience with "them" and I can honestly say that "us" is even worse. Woody, incensy but awful. The smell of death in a bottle. I regred blind buying this and "them" based on neutral reviews so I thought I had the civic duty to post a warning. It is simply horrible, unbearable.

Have to hand it to Neanderthal—this DOES smell like sitting round a fire at the entrance to a cave, surrounded close by my fellow sweaty apemen, contemplating on why homo sapiens are refusing to breed with us and who to sacrifice next to the peat bog. It’s musky and smoky and spicy but also kind of damp and earthy, like warm straw in an animal pen. The fruits and florals are muted and slightly rotten. I give it seven rocks out of ten. Did not help me mate with homo sapien, have gone extinct. 🪨

i started smelling neandertal perfumes in earnest but the more time i spend with them, the more i find their vibe kinda tacky and off putting —the fake deep end of the anthropocene marketing write ups and the weird ai vs perfumers scents are irksome... but even if it is a bit one note, i actually like this one, euan mccall really makes beautiful smokeys. especially appreciate the citrus cutting through this charred pepper & elemi incense.

My pops has a good heart, but has three vices: booze, fags, and terrible hygiene. “Remember, child, slackers wash, true grafters scratch,” was one of his pearls of wisdom, along with lessons on getting drunk without being caught and cheating at cards. "Us" smells like Pjotr: WWII and counterfeit vodka survivor, the man who hates bathing more than Nazis, can’t write, but can draw one-line horses. My pops.

I enjoy this one. Smoky, woody and a minerality running through. A creepy primordial vibe seems to linger in the background. Strange and mysterious. Great work!

Yak! I like interesting perfumes, but this is truly a death in a bottle. Try it before buying.
