Majmua

Ohhhh...it's beautiful! Today is the hottest day in recent history here, and I saved trying this until the snapping point of this awful heatwave. I had read that this is a significantly important Indian blend for high heat, with the vetiver being cooling, and it being a comforting fragrance. I *get* all of that, and although I've never been to India, I can understand how it would help. It's 97 right now, and humid. There's woodiness, yes, but it's kind of spicy and incense-y. It has the signature earthy, campfire-ish, wonderful scent of vetiver in all it's funky glory. It's musky, but also has some fruity, grape undertones that aren't listed, almost like sugared dates. I'm delighted that there's actually something sweet and delicious that wasn't listed in the notes, it adds a layer of complexity and helps soften the masculine notes a bit. I can tell that this is powerfully stubborn, it's predominantly basenotes, and although I applied it an hour ago, it's mounting in it's strength as it sinks deeper into my skin and shirt (I was very light-handed with this, it should be noted). It's getting more musky and grape-y...but not sythentically so (I hate fake grape). So yummy! I don't profess to know anything about Indian perfumery, but if this is any indication, I'm deeply impressed and want to explore more. I really can't believe how much $17 afforded me. I'm infatuated, really, and I can't understand how this isn't more popular.

I bought this on the recommendation of a lady with overlapping taste who loves Nemat. The initial impression? Explosive, enthralling. You're hit with everything at once. The first gust is a bit like expensive, freshly pressed olive oil. Fruity, herbal, bitter, with a sharp, dry spiciness. As it sits on skin, it warms up and reveals a multifaceted floral. It's impossible to relay the floral notes, some go in a fruity, sweet direction, some veer animalic, and the dominant impression is intensely herbal, with a decaying vegetation smell. I'm certain many of these flowers and herb notes are foreign to me. The woody base is dense and sophisticated. A lot of smoky vetiver, a mentholated patchouli, sandalwood, and medicinal incense. There are many, many more notes than the breakdown suggests. Also, it has no musk?! Somehow it's still subtly animalic well into the drydown. Utterly unique, it's unlike anything I've smelled before. The world may never know the secrets within this deep green brew. I certainly can't. I will continue testing and update this comment if my nose catches anything new. Edit: After having tested several of them, Majmua is easily the most challenging, unique, and strangest oil from Nemat. I highly recommend giving it a sniff. I will also warn you; Majmua is VERY concentrated, strong, and long lasting. If you are sensitive, a small dab or two will suffice, any more and it's liable to give me a headache.

FIRST: The word is NOT Arabic but Indian !! Second: this is not a 'musk', but a strong blend of FIVE different ATTARS. I repeat : FIVE attars ( and each of them is composed of 7-10 components: rare Indian flowers, baked earth, khuss, and many more ..FIVE of these ATTARS are in HERE) .which are MIXED toghether to form this majmua: the MOST used scent and national medicine against fatique and headaches and office-zombies in Indian offices. Thanx for FINALLY putting this ancient Indian classic on the 'menu'.... much older then the Arabs who are over-figuered here, and who copied ALL their recipes from the (ancient) Indians NO MUSK !!! It scares even the mosquitos away, this nasty , rich, aromatic, intriguing blend , which I love and have since years : by different home-made brands, but Nemat is the most known factory and I have THAT one too, but mine is DARK-GREEN: In my experience that is the proper colour for a REAL majmua. The darker the BETTER. Good luck with your migrain ! ( massage it into your scalp near eyes ecc...a few DROPS is enough to awake the DEADS )

I absolutely LOVE these attars. Altghough I do not wear them as "serious perfumes" (I don't want to walk aroud smelling like a hippy) I love to wear them whenever I'm going to relax or just before going to sleep. They are incredibly cheap (I paid something like 8 usd for this one), can be used at the vaporizer and smell just like incense, without the toxic smoke. Majmua is like wet earth. It's mostly "dirty", earthy patchouli (at least from this brand) with herbal and woody hints. It brings memories of good times in nature. It reminds me of my grandmother's garden, that had no flowers, was just all lush green leaves and grass and was always kept wet.

complex strooong woody floral, & medicinal maybe a but menthol? insencey, wet earth, camphorous. maybe thats the menthol. & i swear theres a realistic purpley muscadine quality i absolutely love. not fake grape, realistic. very potent, i have put it on mid day & had people comment on the smell the next day, described as a “not bad but strong” shampoo smell. ive had it last through a shower. not a smell to please others & a little goes a looong way. imo unbeatable value provided you actually like the smell

Gorgeous spicy Indian incense-like blend. It's very complex and a little sharp. Smells very much like the interior of the buy by weight markets and shops in the little India neighborhood of my city. I love this dearly but do not find it to be wearable for me personally. Potent and mercurial. Update: I don't know what happened but I've done a total 180 on this one and now I'm obsessed. Considering buying the BIG bottle. It's glorious.

A complex dark incense concoction of primarily woodsy floral and slight herbal/medicinal notes I have the oil and a little goes a long way with this, permeates around you, and lasts a long, long time. Really love it, I am not sure if I have the courage to regularly wear this beyond my house or just briefly go out for something. More of a scent that makes me happy personally than to please others.

I adore this fragrance on its own (I’d say it’s in my top 3!) and layering it with various things, rn my fave way to layer it is with lust solid perfume from lush

Wow. I bought this out of pure curiosity. I like earthy. I love oak moss and vetiver. Medicinal. Okay. Our family cure all had wormwood oil in it, and I don’t mind camphor or Vicks vapor rub. How bad can it be? Well my innocent nose has never smelled anything quite like this. I thought my Husband might like this, might be something to help him layer. He was like oof why did you pick this one out??? But most curiously when I washed it off and then smelled it WOW! If you were a child of the 1980’s then you remember getting hit with the dry down of Georgio Beverly Hills when one of those wonderful women in your life hugged you. Perhaps if I can get through the full strength top notes I might get some more florals and not just this oakmoss, cedar, sandalwood, patchouli vibe I’m getting. I’ll definitely play with it over the weekend to try to understand what I’ve gotten myself into here. But honestly if I can rub it on, wash it off and have a skin scent dry down smell of Giorgio Beverly Hills than it was worth it. That and the experience of trying to wrap my nose around something truly unique. I don’t get a grape or purple smell and I don’t think anyone else thought this smelled like Giorgio in the reviews I read. After the initial funkiness calms down it’s rather interesting but for your average connoisseur of what is popular in the fragrance market currently I think most would find this offensive. A dab will do you, proceed with caution.

An exotic experience that is woody, incensy, floral, funky, and a bit minty? It doesn't start out strong but it hits heavy after a while. A bit much to my liking. I tried playing around with other scents but I can't quite make it work. For now, it is just ok for me. Maybe I'll grow into liking it the more I wear it. Regardless it is a complex scent that is totally unique. Update: I tried and tried. I think this one is a bit difficult for me to wear.

Majmua is a great classic fragrance composition that can be enjoyed best in the hot summer months. Through the Khus (vetiver) component it has a cooling effect. For me personally it's amazing for clearing up headaches or nausea. At the same time Majmua has wonderful floral and warm undertones which makes it easier to wear for women as well (as opposed to Ruh Khus which one really has to learn to appreciate and it's a much stronger masculine vibe). Now Nemat is one of the most reknown traditional brands to offer this fragrance. Another Indian branded option would be Ajmal. But of course there are a lot of smaller Attar businesses that offer their own Majmua compositions on a smaller scale. The beauty of it is that you will find them all to have their very own unique character. I have to disagree with a previous review, you definitely do not have to spend a lot to get a genuine Indian attar. The price of Indian attar depends on the kinds of raw materials used (some are cheaper than others), on the quality grade of those raw materials, on the destillation process used, the purity grade and of course also on the base oils used. Yes, there are attars that can cost up to several hundred bucks. But there we're usually speaking about rare types of oudh that were crafted into singularily outstanding batches that even get better as they age. But there are indeed well crafted natural attars you can come by without shelling out a fortune. Those will usually be attars the raw materials of which are available in plenty in India. Those are certain florals like Kewra or different types of Jasmin and yes also Khus (aka Vetiver). Yes, certain companies may cut corners on the quality grade of the carrier oil, but the raw materials are still for the most part natural if you buy from a traditional business. For example you can get Ruh Khus from a traditional distiller in the Indian city of Attar itself, Kannauj, starting from about 700 INR (about 10 USD). That doesn't mean btw. that there aren't a lot of synthetic attars out there (clear color and thin watery consistency and fruity notes should always be a warning sing). But it is wrong to say that only expensive attars can be genuine. And frankly, even the very cheap attars that people buy in Indian markets (it might come as a shock to some, but by far not all Indians can afford an expensive attar), even if maybe having a synthetic carrier oil and allover lower in quality, are still made in India and thereby genuine Indian attars.

Every so often you encounter a scent which just takes you back, sometimes unexpectedly. This is the case with Nemat Majmua. I grew up surrounded by a hippy community. As a three year old, I sold flowers to flower people for pocket money. I put on Majmua and I was right back there. This is a complex mix, more so than you would expect for the price. It opens with incense and something green that is strongly reminiscent of classic Firdous. As it ages, different elements emerge unpredictably. There's vanilla from the kewda, sandalwood and a flower I can't identify. It's a joy to wear because every wearing is a little different. This is not in the slightest way Western nor is it subtle but it has epic longevity, even surviving a shower.

I read it took the blender years to perfect this. I like it---smells like purple. I do make salves out of it by melting just the perfect amount of beeswax and shea butter. I then add an entire, bigger bottle of Majmua to the melted base, stir and fill about 3-5 little, tiny, plastic, round(like a tuna can) salve containers, let cool and set for a couple days. Friends seem to thank me endlessly, after I gift them.

I don't know how these reviewers can like this perfume-oil it's. absolutely revolting. I put one 18th of a drop on my arm , after a while I was scrubbing it off with soap and a sponge.It smells like bug spray/ embalming fluid from Egypt. The synthetic aromatic molecules in Majmua are vomit inducing to say the least. For me , a waste of money $15.00 down the drain. Available to anyone who has a strong stomach.

Ive never smelled anything like this... it is camphorous? Is camphorous a word? It is very fragrant but has this Vicks vapo rub cooling effect on the nose. It’s not a mint or even a peppermint, it’s earthy and has an oomph to it. Don’t let the camphor scare you, it’s very nice.

Concentrated mustard oil,that's what my nose picked first,but deep inside the smell of earth(khuss), wild flowers and deep woods. A drop is enough to keep me warm and alluring. The smell of my culture, my ppl and my heritage.

I have enjoyed the many fragrances I have purchased from Nemat, but this one is not a favorite. For me, it is not wearable. It is sweet, woody, and rather medicinal. It does not seem contemporary.

A concerning yet familiar mix of Method mint scented floor cleaner and a hot yoga class.
