Patchouli

Nemat has a comprehensive take on the leaves of this plant. The oil perfectly captures all the facets of raw patchouli. It starts off pleasantly damp, with all the youthful touches; herbaceous, medicinal, mentholated... and it progresses to the deeper aspects of aged patchouli; the warm, sweet, dusty, woody, clay-like, soil touches. Every aspect of patchouli is captured, and it amounts to a beautifully rendered, balanced, yet unrefined patchouli oil. Rich, musty, earthy, potent, sweet, and enveloping. It feels complex and layered. I'm a patchouli lover. I've tried a lot of different patchouli-centered oils, perfumes, etc. I agree with Igwe, below; I sniffed five of my other patchouli oils as a standard for comparison. All of them were either less balanced or more refined than this oil from Nemat. ...Please use discretion while wearing, it's not a patchouli for the uninitiated.

I've been looking for the perfect patchouli for a while. Exploring lots of scents that take patchouli this way or that. Ligno, a few Dua tries, etc. This is the one. It has all the elements but doesn't stray to far in any direction. Earthy, strong and dynamic patchouli.

Intoxicating, rich and green, this is a perfect fragrance oil for layering, but as a pure unbridled patchouli fragrance, it may offend (close-minded)people who dislike patchouli on its own.

Well, they were not lying. Straight patchouli dark. Foggy, wet, earthy, green. Patchouli.

My Platonic ideal of patchouli. I used to wear this often in my 20s (I'm in my early 30s) but stopped because the scent has some negative connotations, particularly among some older folks for whom the smell has a connotation with hippies and headshops (a comment I often got from older acquaintances). This made it less than office-safe. For those under, let's say, 40, the reaction was totally different--I had many people comment on how intoxicating the smell was. I feel like the connotations are too strong for me to wear this now unless layered, but I've never found another patchouli frag that performs this well. Unreal, oozing layers of resinous warmth. Never creamy, never gourmand, just deep dark sweetness with incredible throw.

Real hippie patchouli. I like it but the oil roller is not convenient (it leaks a bit). Well for the price it is being sold it's difficult to complain. It is just plain hearty patchouli. Not sweet or gourmant patchouli, just the raw botanical one. Beautiful.I get back to this once once in a while. It's unmatched yet.

Patchouli oil , without the bells or whistles. I am unsure if its because I am also trying Majmua back to back with this, but this does not feel like it has much potency, even compared to other patchouli oils I have tried. Could be wrong.

Dirty patch. Smells like dirt, sometimes almost mildew-y. Other times smells like unsweetened cocoa powder. It sticks to everything and stinks like hell. I love it.

If dirty patchouli is your thing, this one is for you. I still have two vials of The Body Shop Patchouli and it's smooth, resinous and rich. This stuff from Nemat smelled like it had gone off. Note that the patchouli from TBS is nearly 20 years old, and this stuff was new. Now nearly 2 years have gone by and it sat unused on my dresser in a wooden box. I recently decided to use it and I got nothing but a slight rancid oil scent. I shook the bottle and tried again and got a dirty patchouli scent not unlike what you find in any head shop or tobacco shop. I've never had a perfume oil separate like that. Not worth it at any price. If buying from Nemat stick to the Himalayan musk, gardenia and jannatul firdaus (all are divine!).

Just popping in to add to the chorus here: This is straight up, unbridled patchouli. Super earthy, with all the raw aspects of patchouli that I love. Like grabbing wet patchouli straight out of the soil, leaves roots, and all. There is a humid, wet aspect in the open here that brings me straight into nature. As it dries down, it maintains earthiness but warms up a bit, and works really well on my skin. Projection is pretty strong, and competes with a few patchouli forward perfumes I have. This also works great as a layering tool to boost or add patchouli and earthiness to other perfumes. I layered this under Lorenzo Villoresi Patchouli with excellent results. It's very nice on it's own as well. For true lovers of dirty (as in soil) patchouli, this seems like a no brainer at the cost. It's not smooth or blended, but that's what makes it great. If this is too much for you, or are seeking a little more finesse I would recommend Santa Maria Novella Patchouli. That has a similar raw patchouli but softened with other notes and some florals.

Very clean yet earthy. Smelled this on a guy today! It's almost sort of soapy and powdery.

Can someone compare the smell of this to regular pathouli essential oil?

Patchouli oil. Earthy. I like it, nothing more to say.
