Verde

Verde manages to be very fresh and yet also dark--like dense green underbrush, deep in the forest, harboring droplets of fresh, clear water on the undersides of its leaves. There’s a tenderness to it, like the tenderness of vital green things, creeping up, secret-like, from the dark earth. As others have noted, Verde is somewhat masculine, in a way that’s broadly reminiscent of things like “fresh" scented deodorants or body sprays--but there’s more to it than that, more depth and more uniqueness. The verbena in particular is a curious and intriguing note, here. It imbues the fragrance with a softly citrusy opening and a mild floral sweetness, yet it never diverges from the sense of wet-lush-green-nature that pervades every facet of Verde from start to finish. If there are flowers, they are surely small and growing in the hollow of a tree, and if there is citrus it is surely a tender, plant-like citrus. To me there is something deeply calming about Verde, like a safe cottage in the belly of a dark forest. That’s always been its main draw for me: its dark, gentle, naturey smell—by turns soothing and mysterious.

As someone else said, this is a fairly linear green scent... woodsy underneath. I think it's nice for layering with other scents or on its own if you just want to smell sort of bright and fresh. It is slightly more on the masculine end of unisex... it took me awhile to warm up to this scent, but I really like it now. Do you want to smell like a hippie but without the patchouli? Here you go. lol. If you're new to scent profiles and want to know what people mean when they refer to "green" or "herbal" in fragrance, this is a great example of that (but again, with mossy wood notes underneath). ;) According to Angela Flanders, "This family of fragrances started appearing after WWII. Green fragrances with their fresh and dynamic notes symbolised life and a sense of renewal, much needed at the time."

Starts off with a lovely citrusy-piney burst, which quickly dissipates to a warm, *slightly* spicy green scent (I assume that's the vetiver). It's kinda like men's deodorant, but not really - I don't detect anything astringent or soapy. It's more of a comfortable green scent than a refreshing green scent. Woodsy, but not too heavy or spicy. I wish the top notes lasted just a little longer, but the dry down is so wonderful that I ultimately don't care. I can't stop smelling my wrists when I have this on, I'm completely hypnotized by it. This is by far my favorite of the Nest scents, so of course it's discontinued. If you like green, unisex scents, you might want to get your hands on some of the little sampler rollerballs that are still out there.

years ago, i found a rollerball of Verde in the pockets of a donated coat and ended up blowing through the entire little vial in two weeks. i wish i'd known it was discontinued, i'd have savored the experience a little more! i was heartbroken to find out she was discontinued. such a gorgeous scent, its green without being too masculine OR feminime and it smells wet without being dank, almost like a hiking trail leading up to a waterfall

This is an amazing scent. Green, wet, light scent with fern and vetiver... Cedar is very muted. The scent makes me think I'm in a rain forest with new plants growing about knee high. Perhaps that is the case with the cedar too. Still smelling it hours later on my skin. Very relaxing and calming fragrance. I'm not sure if this is unisex or not, but most definitely could be...and even leans slightly toward masculine.
