Verde

Verde manages to be very fresh and yet also dark--like dense green underbrush, deep in the forest, harboring droplets of fresh, clear water on the undersides of its leaves. There’s a tenderness to it, like the tenderness of vital green things, creeping up, secret-like, from the dark earth. As others have noted, Verde is somewhat masculine, in a way that’s broadly reminiscent of things like “fresh" scented deodorants or body sprays--but there’s more to it than that, more depth and more uniqueness. The verbena in particular is a curious and intriguing note, here. It imbues the fragrance with a softly citrusy opening and a mild floral sweetness, yet it never diverges from the sense of wet-lush-green-nature that pervades every facet of Verde from start to finish. If there are flowers, they are surely small and growing in the hollow of a tree, and if there is citrus it is surely a tender, plant-like citrus. To me there is something deeply calming about Verde, like a safe cottage in the belly of a dark forest. That’s always been its main draw for me: its dark, gentle, naturey smell—by turns soothing and mysterious.

As someone else said, this is a fairly linear green scent... woodsy underneath. I think it's nice for layering with other scents or on its own if you just want to smell sort of bright and fresh. It is slightly more on the masculine end of unisex... it took me awhile to warm up to this scent, but I really like it now. Do you want to smell like a hippie but without the patchouli? Here you go. lol. If you're new to scent profiles and want to know what people mean when they refer to "green" or "herbal" in fragrance, this is a great example of that (but again, with mossy wood notes underneath). ;) According to Angela Flanders, "This family of fragrances started appearing after WWII. Green fragrances with their fresh and dynamic notes symbolised life and a sense of renewal, much needed at the time."

Starts off with a lovely citrusy-piney burst, which quickly dissipates to a warm, *slightly* spicy green scent (I assume that's the vetiver). It's kinda like men's deodorant, but not really - I don't detect anything astringent or soapy. It's more of a comfortable green scent than a refreshing green scent. Woodsy, but not too heavy or spicy. I wish the top notes lasted just a little longer, but the dry down is so wonderful that I ultimately don't care. I can't stop smelling my wrists when I have this on, I'm completely hypnotized by it. This is by far my favorite of the Nest scents, so of course it's discontinued. If you like green, unisex scents, you might want to get your hands on some of the little sampler rollerballs that are still out there.

years ago, i found a rollerball of Verde in the pockets of a donated coat and ended up blowing through the entire little vial in two weeks. i wish i'd known it was discontinued, i'd have savored the experience a little more! i was heartbroken to find out she was discontinued. such a gorgeous scent, its green without being too masculine OR feminime and it smells wet without being dank, almost like a hiking trail leading up to a waterfall

This is an amazing scent. Green, wet, light scent with fern and vetiver... Cedar is very muted. The scent makes me think I'm in a rain forest with new plants growing about knee high. Perhaps that is the case with the cedar too. Still smelling it hours later on my skin. Very relaxing and calming fragrance. I'm not sure if this is unisex or not, but most definitely could be...and even leans slightly toward masculine.

I love how fresh and green this smells. Great for summer! Moderate projection on me. I like that the scent is unusual and new. Does not smell like others I have. Definitely NOT in the floral or gourmand grouping. Green, earthy, herbal goodness. I would gladly wear this, and also think it would smell great on my husband. This is a scent that revives and energizes you! Happy smelling! :)

I love this fragrance. It's like you brushed past a Pink Breath of Heaven shrub, which leaves behind a lovely scent on your hand. Full bottle worthy for me if only it lasted longer than it does. I barely can detect it after 20 minutes or so. This reminds me a lot of L'Eau Couture Elie Saab for women, which is just as lovely but lasts longer.

A pluviophile's mood boost in a bottle. Living green, shady and rainy. Very stable over a decent length of time, not much evolution to this, just gradually fades over many hours to a polite and consistent end. Simple construction, perhaps it is good for layering, though I can never bring myself to dilute the effect in order to find out.

This is so freakishly weird that I actually like it. It is not a normal "girly" fragrance at all. It is quirky and unusual. Smells like grass and wood and forest- and I love it. But again, it is not for the office or for a date, unless you are dating a botanist ;)

One of my favorite scents of all time. Very earthy, perfect for the days when I was at my desk working and wanted a small whiff of freedom.

So in my recently discovered love for 'green' fragrances (and my obsession with Nest / Jerome Epinette) I scrambled to track down a bottle of Verde, despite it being discontinued. I was a little worried, having read so many mixed reviews. But nonetheless, I now own a bottle of Verde and have given myself a fair stretch of time to form an opinion... I don't get the fresh citrusy burst that I see other people talk about. In fact, I don't even get pine. I don't really get any freshness from the perfume. It's very down and dirty. There's no watery freshness like Dahlia & Vines or Wisteria Blue. There's no fresh cut grass like Passiflora. It's very close to the earth, which I suppose is the vetiver and cedar. It is unfortunately more 'chemically' and less 'natural' than I was expecting. I do recognize the damp woodsy greens and earthy soily notes, which I typically enjoy in nature. But there is something synthetic in there. It is very very similar to an Axe men's deodorant that my ex used to wear. If i had not been so traumatized by that man, and his smell, I'd probably be head over heels in love with Verde. But there is an unmistakable similarity to a blue-colored underarm deodorant stick that i believe was made by Axe. That being said, I feel like it leans a bit masculine. It's pretty linear, it doesnt change much- at least not on my skin. It doesn't develop or evolve at all. It smells the same after 5 minutes as it does after 4 hours. Longevity is impressive. The sillage of 2 conservative spritzes is somewhere between intimate and arm's length. But it's quite potent and I could see this choking someone after about 4 sprays- the type of potent where you would start to taste it. This is going to sound like a demotion, but i actually use this as a deep woods bug repellent! I love to go hiking and camping, and i HATE the smell of commercial bugspray. This perfume somehow deters all the bugs, and is wonderfully fitting for roughing it in the woods. So, not an everyday fragrance for me. I reserve this for my real life 'verde' occasions. Another positive is that Verde completely camouflages my natural body odor. If i'm sweating in hot humid weather, Verde neutralizes / cancels out any type of salty smell that may be wafting from my underarms, haha!

It starts like a greenery during spring. Uplifting, bright, light colored greens, chartreuse, lime green. Then, as if dark heavy clouds appear in the sky, Verde turns humid, full of vapor before a downpour. And then it happens, the rain and static release a wild symphony of greens, wet earth and woods. Top notes are citrus and green. Middle is dark green, slightly woody and just a tiny bit powdery. Dry down is woods. I personally find Verde very attractive, a green scent with depth and character while at the same time introspective and unpretentious.

This is a very masculine forest. It's really beautiful, and supposed to be unisex, but it feels masculine because of how woody it is. Very sharp, and almost like cut grass. You'll smell unique for sure. If this is your signature fragrance, you're confident and interesting. It sucked that my NEST rollerblading set came with this one scent nearly empty. I loved wearing it when the weather got cooler to remind myself of a cedar cabin during Christmas.

There was something very familiar and almost comforting about the scent. I couldn't quite place what it reminded me of. Then I saw someone's comment about men's deodorant. That's about right. The longer I wore it, the less I liked it. It really stuck with me, and seemed to get more potent and almost artificial over time--but I wonder if the deodorant idea didn't just get to my head.

This isn't what you'd think of when you think of a "green" fragrance. It's not grassy or leafy. It's not sharp and permeating. This is more of a scent of jungle foliage and unsergrowth. There's a hint of a woodsy finish. This one smells a lot better on skin than on a tester strip.

I like this, but was hoping to love it. It just didn't quite meet my expectations, I wanted something greener and darker. It smells very much like Passiflora with a slightly different base. I'm hoping my opinion will change after trying it a few more times.

Green and white floral, not picking up much ceder or vetivert. Plesant green with sweet floral and fruits notes. Pretty linear. Not green enough and too sweet for my tastes. ⛤⛤

I didn't realize this was unisex, but I get it now. I'd rather smell this on a man than myself.

I own this fragrance as a mini rollerball from a NEST variety set. Verde is a well-blended green scent that is too masculine for my preference, almost a blue cologne. The fresh spicy opening reminds me of eucalyptus and aloe. It makes way for cedarwood and lush deep greens that I cannot quite distinguish and identify, drying down bright. Perhaps that makes for an accurate interpretation of forest foliage. Smelling Verde is like plucking an aromatic leaf and rubbing it between your fingers under your nose. I appreciate it in my collection as a distinctive perfume with representative merit.

This smells kind of Christmas-y on me. I don't know if it's the cedar... or the verbana, or what, but I was frantically reading the notes to see if there was some spearmint in here. Nest fragrances are so weird. This will make you feel cool, as in cool and refreshed. It would be good to wear in summer to cool yourself down. People keep saying “green lush rainforest,” but again, that's not what I'm getting here. I can definitely smell the cedar and the verbana and the vetiver, all of which are very strong. Maybe a Wisconsin forest or a Maine forest. What is a “fern” supposed to smell like? I have to say I'm rather baffled as to what note is supposed to smell like ferns. People are right: this is unisex or “masculine.” It's a spicy, woody, foresty smell – which I guess we have been trained to think of as “manly.” If you only like “feminine”-smelling perfumes, this will not be the choice for you. This almost makes me cough if I breathe too deeply while smelling it on my skin. The scent doesn't fade, instead it stays intensely on your skin and seems to become stronger as it dries down. Again, all of these Nest scents are weird. Or “unique.” If you like traditional fragrances with traditional note combinations, this is not the brand for you. This is a spicy, strong, woody scent. I don't like this. I got three hours of wear from this, almost exactly.

Scent pyramid: Strongest to weakest VERBENA (overshadows everything) Fern (slightly detectable - masked under the powerful verbena - but you can definitely tell it's there) Cedar (almost undetectable, I'd never say this if I didn't see this listed in the notes here) This smells like you took a shower in the rainforest using verbena-scented shampoo. This has no fruit tones, so I just mean a really really green rainforest. To describe verbena, it sort of smells like a lemon had a baby with a white floral, like gardenia. Not that sharp citrus feel, but softer, kinda soapy. Like a fancy hotel's shampoo or something. When you get down to it, it's just very green, bright, wet, and softly lemony. Dried down, it's a very slight mix of everything I said, but still smells mostly like verbena. The drydown is not very impressive, it kinda just smells like you showered. Maybe b/c I have the rollerballs, not the spray (and I only roll once or twice), like other Nest EDPs, the scent does not travel. No one will be able to tell you're wearing perfume. These are like aromatherapy for those days when you'd just like to sniff yourself.

Dearest Nest Fragrances, I adore your concepts for fragrances, and Verde seemed like it would fulfill my longing for a deep green scent, redolent of woods, fern, and citrusy vetiver. Alas, one strong, sharp note of pine tar emerged on my skin and stayed for hours. People wondered if I had spilled Pine Sol on my shoes. I have yet to find a fragrance in your house that works with my typically forgiving chemistry. I am puzzled, but will keep trying to find one that works for me.Sincerely, a hopeful future fan.

At first you get blasted with Irish spring soap. Men’s body wash / deodorant. Then the Irish spring starts to fade & some crushed leaves and something kinda funky kicks in that I didn’t love. Definitely a masculine scent. Edited to add: After about 2 hours it smelled like a completely different fragrance. I forgot what I was wearing, it was soft & feminine suddenly. 🤷♀️

This smells exactly like a man's deodorant, it's fresh, green and simple. Nothing wrong with this "cologne", nice for a man, but not feminine at all.

I wouldn't call this unisex at all. This is very masculine. I felt like I was putting on my husband's cologne.

I really have always LOVED "Green" fragrances - so if you don't like something "GREEN" then pass this one by. If you are open to Fresh GREEN scents - then by all means, you really need to TRY THIS ONE! It is definitely FRESH--- Almost with the smell of ivy - something that lingers on the skin and has a more full bodied and lingering aroma than Nest's Indigo fragrance. This fragrance easily dominates in a way that Nest's Indigo does not. I have always been drawn to Green fragrances - I truly LOVE Vetiver - in men's fragrances. This is a solid fragrance, a full chord - which I really love. You can't compare this to anything on the market, or anything that I've tried. I also love Cabotine - which is a very naive and fresh green scent - compared to this one. I'm on the fence about buying this. If I had room for more of a collection, this would definitely be one of my choices, but I feel that I prefer something a little bit lighter than this. I think this one would wear better in winter and fall - than spring and summer. It is a little bit heavy for this area of the country (Southern CA) for the spring and summer. ---------- I prefer a stronger scent of fig or vetiver than the ivy type smell that I am smelling in this particular fragrance. It isn't bad, but it isn't so good that I will buy this immediately. This may be something I will add later when I have more room for fragrances other than my signature scents.

I wanted to like this, I really did. I don't dislike it. It is just kind of meh. Very innocuous. The fern and verbena mixed to create a slightly green blanket around the main vetiver note. Cedar is meekly in the background. A well blended but linear scent. I do not see this as unisex, I am giving the rest of my sample to my husband. I only see the crunchiest of women wearing it. It is possible to like it without wishing to wear it. Verde is inoffensive but totally forgettable. It barely lasted the morning. I am reapplying with a different scent for the afternoon, and there isn't any scent pollution.

I absolutely love this scent, to me it is the essence of the color green, verde was such an appropriate name for this! It is so unique to anything i have ever owned, i could pick it out in a crowd in a second! I wear perfume every day and i switch it up often, out of all my various scents this one seems to get me the most compliments from both women and men. I like to carry it with me to feel refreshed during my long work days. I have it in a rollerball but will be purchasing the full size for summer.

oh my this is the BEST green scent i have ever smelled..........most green scents smell sharp , sour or real grassy or sometimes like wet dog pee lol i know but sometimes it smells like that lol............anyway this is a beautiful soft green floral..........i feel bad saying green but heck its called verde lol the bottle is so pretty too - in fact all the nest bottles are to die for :) the scent is not heavy - very wearable & on me it lasts :)

(Nest sample reviews) Why did they discontinue this one? Freshsplosion. It actually has a menthol effect on my nose. It's like they put buckets and buckets of dewy ferns through a press and made a single vial of concentrated oil. Similar to men's deodorant or aftershave if it were elevated. I like that though. I'm a little under the weather and this is like a medicinal tincture or herbal salve.

This is green, but I wouldn't think of it as citrusy as verbena or as earthy as fern. More leafy. Not much cedar and not very woody. I definitely get some vetiver, but I also get a light floral so it doesn't feel too masculine. It isn't quite laundry fresh, but I would put it in the same category as Diptyque Eau de Lierre. There is something about it that feels very spring-like

Despite this being a bit masculine leaning, to my nose it is the ultimate green fragrance, and my rollerball has dried up. I really hope I'll be able to pick up a full bottle before it's completely impossible to find. It's such a dark, deep green forest scent. So fresh, so clean and wet. I love it.

In a word: green. Unusual and complex, and yet all its complexity is...green. I like it. If you're looking for a clean herbal/woody scent that's suitable for daytime and summer, try Nest Verde.

Everyone else has said it, but the very aptly name "Verde" is excessively green. Woodsy and bright. I love it, but I think I'd love it much more on a man. Anyone else being reminded of Aspen?

Green and linear. Vetiver. And very, very linear. It’s like the best soap you’ve ever used. And with the prettiest packaging. For about an hour I like it, but ultimately a pass for me.

One of the most unusual fragrances for summer. It's definitely worth a test if you like plant based scents vs. an all out floral.
