Wood Haze 01.11

I bought this, together with the same perfume house’s “Mossland 12.09”, which I have reviewed more in-depth (including packaging, etc.) This perfume bottle’s cap has the same problems as Mossland’s cap had: it is not on quite as securely, and does not satisfactorily snap into place when put on. It DOES remain on the bottle when put on, though. The opening of this perfume (after waiting for 5 seconds to let the sharp alcohol dissipate) is very woodsy and crisp/earthy green at the same time; it is almost reminiscent of cutting into fresh, green wood. The scent becomes sweeter, like incense, as it develops, with hints of sandalwood, and some citrus, while the earthy forest greens retreat. As time passes, palo santo and sandalwood establish themselves on stage as the main performers, with some elemi-type of note supporting them. All in all, this is a nice, refined, slightly formal or festive, scent. It does not last too long (roughly 4 hours), and sits very close to the skin, which may be Neydo’s style. Price (86€ for 50ml) is a bit on the near end of reasonable, close to “slightly overpriced” for want of performance and sillage. This perfume reminds me ever so slightly of L’Occitane Eau des Baux, especially in the mid-notes. Eau des Baux tends to be too obnoxiously sweet for my taste, though. Even if the notes I smell are related to one another, I find Neydo Wood Haze 01.11 to be a more pleasant, better developed, more down-to-earth perfume than Eau des Baux. This turned out to be a very unproblematic blind-buy, and I am not mad at it. I will definitely reach for this perfume more often during the frosty season.

Wood Haze took me back in time: it's a woody fragrance, layered with spices, yet it retains elements of vintage perfumery. In short, it smells like the aftershave used by dad after a shower, with those masculine nuances that were so appealing and continue to be characteristic of an era.
