Gravity

Just received the sampler set and Gravity immediately jumped out at me. Opens strong, but beautifully mixed. Unisex. Perfect for cooler weather. Boozy, minty herbaceous opening. The ginger and patchouli in the mid are very present and so well-blended. Dries down softer than the opening with a warm amber base. 8.5 out of 10 for me. Thoroughly enjoying going through the sampler set.

I love patchouli fragrances that give off a leather-like nuance, and this is very much one of those. I suspect the pairing with an “amber” resin (a very open-ended category) is what’s creating that effect. If labdanum were listed, it would answer a major question mark for me; who knows, maybe it’s there in practice. The opening surprised me with a very sweet, boozy hit, but it soon settles into something far deeper and more grounded. The slightly earthy side of patchouli and that leather-adjacent effect seem to fuse with a gentle rum warmth and resinous tonalities. As it moves into the drydown, a faint incense-smoke impression shows up. Patchouli remains present throughout. Overall, it feels layered, sophisticated, and unmistakably gothic; right up my alley. Note: I’m honestly surprised who’s been giving this near-perfect scent such low ratings? I can’t find a single flaw in it?! I’m really sorry, but it looks like it’s been hit with a hate-bombing wave; that’s neither fair nor ethical. Going through my Nicheend sample set. Very interesting one! I figured Gravity would be heavy and hard but although it opens quite punchy it turns very airy, which I find interesting and fitting, as gravity is nowhere yet everywhere at the same time. The patchouli here doesn't bother me as much as it usually does. I think the rum and rosemary balance out that "weedy" vibe I often get from it. Definitely one of the most interesting patchouli-driven fragrances I've smelt. The rosemary is very present as well, giving it a herbaceous profile. The rum is there but it's not boozy to my nose, it's just there balancing things out. I need to test it more but it's a like so far, not a love. Pleasant but not like "I want to wear this now!" feeling. It might be a little divisive, I think. Definitely cold weather type. I don't find it loud but the patchouli-heavy profile will be overwhelming in the heat. It lasts long but it tends to cling to skin after a few hours. I think it may be on purpose though. It's an unusual one, for sure.
