Bois Bélize Intense

Testing it the third time, it is obviously full bottle worthy. I would say that on my skin this is the Perfume, with a capital P. Because of the name I was expecting something smokey woody unisex but it ends up being a fantastic rose. Beautiful how the creamy osmanthus is immediately gives a full bodied opening and then the rose is coming in full bloom along with some amazing fresh tea and clove scent. I realized that I want something like this when I am talking about floral scents. Bois Belize should be much more popular, maybe the timing was not right, when it came out. It is a sophisticated niche sensation that does not scream money, just very good taste. I love love love it. Edit: its March, I purchased a full bottle in February and can’t get enough. I am wearing it all day everyday and am really happy with it.

Patricia de Nicolai has this uncanny ability with her compositions to lend a certain translucency while at the same time constructing a fully fleshed out "body," substantial and voluminous. In Bois Belize Intense, the elements are lucid: a dew-dappled rose imbued with fresh cardamom pods, osmanthus tea, green mate leaf, all anchored in a vaguely smoky and unctuous guaiacwood. Another review commented that it is "pretty and light." However, there are far more diaphanous wisps in the world of perfumery. This watercolor lightness doesn't escape the skin rapidly into an ether; it holds tight to the immediate surroundings, with a haunting sillage (among my favorite types of sillage). It takes a skill to accomplish this atmosphere, and Nicolai displays it with aplomb.

Lovely scent and not quite what I expected. The tea note from the mate is for me front and centre throughout. In fact I spent some time around two years ago looking for a tea scent that performed well enough to warrant a purchase but eventually gave up. While all the notes play their part the tea scent is centre stage from start to finish. Performance is very good still clearly detectable on my as I type 10 hours after application. Non offensive, and office friendly a nice office work horse for Spring and Autumn.

My most worn as of late - quite quickly has become one of my absolute favourites. Very classical perfumery with clearly defined top-middle-base stages - bergamot and spices in the opening, smoky guaiac wood and tea in the mid stage, moss and patchouli in the final stage, with a prominent rose note threaded through the whole thing. really gorgeous. Similarities to Chanel Paris-Paris, Diptyque Eau Capitale and Malle Potrait of a Lady (much more the first two though).

I wore this today, on an unusually warm and foggy late-December day in New York, and this beauty just opened up! It starts with tea and spices and then develops -- on my skin at least -- into a kind of rose-tinged chypre that is somehow both stimulating and calming. I sometimes get bored with fragrances that overstay their welcome, but I'm happy to have this one stick around for the whole day. Another stunner from a masterful perfumer.

Elegant, Oriental, citrus woody Wonderful classic from Nicolai. It feels familiar yet very unique. The osmanthus in the first splash is intoxicating and the rose makes makes it rich and contrasts well with the citrusy woods. I enjoy the development of three phases especially at the drydown where you can smell the bittersweet tea/oakmoss and patchouli. Intense yet fresh and suitable for spring

A hidden gem, to me it smell like a Chypre. It smells a little bit smokey like smoked tea, with a green vibe from the moss and patchouli bordering the smell of an ashtray, with rose cardamom clove and bergamot adding spiciness and lifting it up. Zero sweetness, pretty bitter and leans masculine. One of my favorites i just love it!

I know I'm late, but I recently had the chance to try a Nicolai perfume and I'm in love. This Bois Belize Intense has a deep rose scent, supported by mate, spices, and wood, and it envelops me in a rich fragrance. Every time I move, the scent lifts my feeling. Beautiful perfume.

A wonderful somewhat tart and long lasting Eau de Parfum. I get a mixture of bergamot, woods, yerba mate, smoke, patchouli and spices. Well done Nicolaï Parfumeur Createur.

An excellent release from Nicolai and one of the best tea scents available on the market.

It’s pretty and light. But it somehow reminds me of Yerba Mate.

I was trying perfumes at Parfums de Nicolai in Paris for myself, and could not make up my mind. My partner was offered to test some while waiting for me and Bois Belize smelled amazing on him. Sweet and hugging and just endlessly comforting like a warm hug. This was the best find from Parfums de Nicolai for us. For me it is way too masculine and woody and doesn't really work, but for men it can smell wonderful. This perfume is not shy and you will smell it if anybody is wearing it in the room. Depending on the situation this can smell like an old man who doesn't care for showering for days, I'm suspecting it might be the clove - I think it's best worn on a clean body. Any remaining scent of food or smoke or previous perfume does not sit well with this one. Apply it after shower, my two cents.

It is a Nice Scent ! Elegant, Light, Floral and Woody. I tried it in store and I received a sample. In my opinion, Bois Belize Intense is more Feminine and suitable for Women.The Rose note is dominant in this perfume, It is similar to The Rose Garden in a cold day. It opens up fresh spicy, citrusy, floral and spices notes in the background then dry down is earthy and woody. This is perfect for the Spring,Summer and Fall. I like it, Longevity is good. Rating : 7.5 /10

Projects with a furious intensity. The sillage is uncommonly resilient and long lasting. The blending of warm spices and fresh earthy and citrus tones is consummate in its method. For me, the Matte tea note was particularly pleasing as I have a 'bit of a thing' for tea notes in fragrances (see Eau Duelle by Diptyque)! A fresh and spicy delight of a fragrance, very pleasing, but go easy on the trigger, as a little goes a very long way...

I mostly get a chypre-like, kind of powdery rose-geranium combo. Seems dated, and unfortunately, the clove/carnation isn’t helping. Not my jam, but I could see others who dig a vintage vibe loving this. After half an hour, the toasty yerba mate is starting to come through, but it doesn’t change my overall impression. To reiterate, this is an expertly composed and blended perfume. It’s just not for me.

I received a sample of this fragrance in an order and it's surprisingly an excellent fragrance. The scent profile is basically the notes listed. It seems nothing special but the combination of them is so refined and masterfully created that you can't find in many fragrances. It's very fresh, and bright but surprisingly long lasting with amazing sillage. I highly recommend this fragrance. 8/10

Quite an interesting male-leaning rose scent. I feel like rose is traditionally female but this is determined to be male/unisex while still centered around rose. I get a spicy rose in the opening with almost a slightly medicinal quality that dries down to be more woody while retaining the rose character. I still can't tell if I like the scent but the performance is great.

Because of all the great comments about this fragrance I bout it thinking it will be an warm aromatic tea smell with a « Classic » perfume smell. But it is all about a really « classic », « old », a bit mature grandma fragrance. You have to like bergamot and vetiver to enjoy this one. I also bought it because it was cheap (45€, 30ml). Imho that’s a pass

I would like this more if I got more of the listed notes. For me, it’s heavy on the clove.

A very poor release for me, a light airy tea scent with poor performance.

Bergamot cardamom rhubarb/rose clove over dry transparent woods Watching a relatively recent Patricia de Nicolai interview, I was pleasantly surprised to see her name Bois Belize as one of the compositions she is most proud of. I remember first seeing this fragrance next to her commercial gourmand trio and freezing in place admiring the subtle and understated radiance. Bergamot in full display, earl grey like shimmering bright light turns slowly fresh rosy with dry cloves in the back, adding warmth and bite. The rose borders tart fruity rhubarb but remains recognisably green rosy. Underneath slightly green earthy dry patchouli, perhaps some akigala and or vetiver isolates to form a transparent radiant woodiness with hints of smoke, dry linen musks for stability. Personally I find it extremely interesting, but also enjoyable to wear. Impeccable classical form and discipline but with modern raw materials. Love it.

Before I bought it a review summed it up nicely : if New York is the city gentleman then Bois Belize Intense is the country gentleman. This is spectacularly good. This is masculine in touch with nature. It is like an impressionist painting. Stand too close and it's nowhere near as appealing. However let it weave a pattern round with your body chemistry and this will get you plenty of compliments especially from the ladies. This is a gentleman dressed casually or at the weekend . It's gentle power, clear vision taste yet restraint. I have not smelt anything like it. It starts off green and fresh and spicy and settles down fairly linear just losing some of the fiz. You can make out rose vetiver oakmoss and the closer you get patchouli and musk which give it backbone. Easily FBW. 10/10

From my experience, this fragrance primarily revolves around cardamom, distinguished by its authentically cooling, almost mentholated rendition, diverging from the customary sweetish spice accord. This refreshing coolness, supported by a vibrant and fresh rose, and a hint of clove, will dominate the fragrance once the sweet osmanthus has receded from the top notes, seamlessly integrating with the smoky 'underwoods' in the base. Although the smokiness emanating from the guaiac wood does test my tolerance, it ultimately refrains from becoming overpowering, which also applies to the use amberwoods here. During this concluding phase, the drydown from Caron's L'Anarchiste will send its regards from afar. Performance is very satisfying.

In the dry down I get mostly wood, and if I really force myself I get some cardamon and a hint of fresh rose. It's rather dry, and has almost no sweetness. I can see it working on the right person(mature, well dressed), but personally I'm not feeling it. It has sort of like Le Labo-ish vibe, and a hint of Ganymede. Leans masculine, imo. Not my jam.

Alright boys and girls, you have to like rose for this one. Definitely rose heavy most of the way through. Same chic feel you get in a lot of her work. Classy French style.

This fragrance is divine. Who would've guessed that rose could be an ideal fragrance for men. After about 4 hours it turns to masculine woody note.

Wow. This is superb. It’s a clear watery rose surrounded in soft focus by a haze of warmth and muted spice. This I must own.

Oh wow. This reminds me of my first time stepping in a record store in Fitzroy (Mel, Australia). Old vinyl smells! So goood
