Eau d'Ete

This fragrance holds the record for the longest I’ve held onto a sample before making up my mind to buy a bottle- something like seven years. Why did it take me so long? Mostly because this is the most weather sensitive fragrance I’ve ever experienced and I was living in a hot climate for most of those seven years and it was only when I moved somewhere with real winters that I remembered this fragrance and dug out my sample. Inside, on a cold day, with snow falling this is what you want to be wearing. The main chord is this beautiful combination of jasmine, cinnamon and lime, which sounds like it would perfect for poolside but somehow has the bright crispness of snow. It sounds crazy, but obviously whoever named the fragrance had the same impression. I wore this almost exclusively on snowy days last winter. It’s one of those simple but simply perfect fragrances and a testament to the genius of Patricia de Nicolai.

I’ve joined only to comment on this scent. It is incredibly alluring. On me I smell mostly musky cinnamon however weirdly it must sound. I did not smell anything citrusy or soapy or washing-up liquidy like. It went straight to the warm cinnamon smell on my skin. There is something else which I cannot identify, you see I'm not an experienced nose, but it gives me such a pleasant kick! Eau'd Ete blends with my skin's chemistry better than I would have ever expected. Now I’m curious about the other perfumes from de Nicolai.

It is one of the most beautiful, underrated and ethereal concoction I have come across. When reviews draw likeness to Coca Cola aroma I feel it's not so pronounced and fizzy as it is in Tonka Cola which is good for me because I do find Tonka Cola a little too much masala like in the opening but a very authentic cola nonetheless and more refined. I enjoy both though

Citrus freshness and jasmine combined reminds me of Diorella and Eau Sauvage. Discreet orientalism replaces the chypre base. An elegant 'eau'! You can always see the Guerlain heritage flashing through the Nicolaï works - very nice!

I go back and forth on this one. Sometimes I love it and sometimes I find it a bit too soapy. Cinnamon/lime/jasmine is strange but lovely and refreshing. To me its more of a winter scent because when it's cooler the soap behaves.

On me this is akin to ramune soda or ramune candy. I've tested this together with J-Scent's Ramune, and Eau d'Ete seems even more reminiscent of soda than the J-Scent's offering. The notes that I can discern are jasmine, citrus, and a barely-there cinnamon. Cinnamon in this isn't the "baked goods" kind of cinnamon, it's woodsier and soapier to the point that it'easy to confuse it with a light sandalwood note. All these notes I can smell when I really try, but none of them really stands out as the main note, so the overall impression I get as I mentioned above is that of a sparkling soda drink, which I think is very fitting for the hot summer days.

At the beginning of summer every year, I buy one perfume and use it the entire summer. This year my 'summer scent' goes to Eau d'Ete. I love white florals and jasmine is so fresh and perfect for warm seasons. Limes and grapefruits are zesty and uplifting. The right amount of sourness gives a bubbly feeling, like I am having an iced citrus fizzy drink. But longevity is not impressive - I keep reapplying it throughout the day. Looks like I will go through a full bottle before the summer ends.

I smell a sweetly intense lime - like key limes - and musk. I know florals are in there somewhere, but they don't stand out like the lime/musk combination. Very refreshing, not loud even on a humid summer day. Got enough perfumes now that I don't feel moved to buy this, but it's really lovely. Certainly might pick it up some day.

I really like the minimalism here: lemon plus cinnamon. It is probably great in very warm weather. I think I'd like to smell this on a man instead of my female self.

Smells better outside in the heat than inside in the A/C. Orange peel and cinnamon are very forward. Good for a beach holiday.

I have the Eau Fraiche et Legere version, in other words the cologne , not the edt. It was a blind buy, based on notes. I have to say it's pretty strong, very fresh citrusy and juicy. The silage is quite nice for a "deodorant" cologne, and long lasting. I can feel the quality, but something in it makes me not want to grab it. The flowers that come along with the citrus ( grapefruit and lemon/limes) are lovely and delicate, citrus still prevails. The resins and cinnamon, while not dominant, bring a bit of sexiness into the equation. This is a very bright cologne, indeed it says "spring/summer" with all its might. It has a very "crispy" feel to it,very fresh, without any aquatic notes ( which I loathe). The bottle is very simple, dark blue glass with golden top. If I can associate it with any other fragrance, I would have to compare it to Hermes Concentre d'Orange Verte, only this is way more feminine than that. Overall, very natural smelling, I cannot sense any chemical/artificial/cheap ingredients. Most likely made with essential oils. I wish I bought the edt though, not the "eau fraiche et legere".... my mistake.

Getting bored with usual summer offerings and colognes with strong citrus, I tried this one. The opening felt like sparkling citrus soda with a twist of spice. Then I realized why people compared this to Coca Cola. This is indeed uplifting cola smell, probably thanks to fluffy musk, cinnamon, and subtle citrus. A touch of floral note sweetens a bit. I am enjoying this wonderful scent in the middle of winter. Eau D'ete is such a charming, zesty scent that does much more than common clean citrus cologne. I can easily overlook its short longevity. Nicolai is one of a few high quality affordable niche brands that I wouldn't have any qualm to use a lot.

This is my go-to summer fragrance, and the fragrance I spritz off and on all year long when I can't decide what to wear. To my nose, the lime is more evident than the grapefruit, and its discernible even in the dry down, though of course much faded. The musk of the dry down is light, airy, perfect for a hot, humid summer day. The cinnamon is just enough to keep things from being dull. A refreshing wear-it-every-day if you like Summer fragrance. Since it's PdN, you know they are high-quality ingredients. One of my desert-island top five.

Definitely a try-before-buy situation. I tested a small decant just 30 minutes ago, and it is a sharp lime. Brings to mind a lime squeezed over a fresh glass of water. Not unpleasant, but not what I am looking for in a scent. As I get to the dry-down, the lime mellows out. I could see this being interesting on a gentleman. Please note that I am a fan of coconut with my lime. If pina colada/beach vacation scents leave you cold, Eau d'Ete may be just what you are looking for!

Citrus, cinnamon, jasmines blend. It is quite a wierd combination of sour, yet sweet, and animalic! it has that animalic, metallic blend of musk that accompanies water running through pipes! I don't know wither if i'm sniffing copper as well or just a sweet blend that turned metallic! t does have that 90s soapy note that doesn't present the cleanness rather than soapy metallic aquatic blend! I don't see this as a stand up creation! it's not even fair.

A beautiful lime and lemon scent with clean jasmine and a touch of cinnamon. Clean white musk runs throughout to bolster everything else. This is probably the least complex Nicolai that I have tried, but the execution is still wonderful. It's watery and floral in nature. The jasmine might be real Jasmine Grandiflorum due to a very slight apricot/peach vibe. This stuff shines much more in warmer weather.

Based on notes and reviews, Eau d'Ete should be a fragrance for me. They even sprinkled a little cinnamon (like) on the fruits and the jasmine (love). But all I get is the distinct smell of my limey dish-washer liquid. Plus a vague whiff of sweetness, from the benzoin I guess. I keep trying it, but no. How unfortunate. I recommend trying on skin before buying.

A very sweet lime, but not for long, it is transformed to a green and earthy scent. The dry down is very similar to un fleur du matin by miller Harris. So it is quite masculine. I think citrusy notes should really suit you in order to enjoy this, otherwise it becomes a cacophony, a loud one.

Lime with a pinch of pepper on top of it. The cinnamon is very dry and muted, almost non-existent. Not the usual warm cozy type. Almost gone as soon as it starts. This one had potential.
