Oud Sublime

Holy Grail version of "Incense Oud" - which is already absolutely fantastic. This is literally one of the best bottles on the market at any price. Speaking of price: Go with the 90ml vs. the 35ml to significantly improve the price-per-mil, & keep it in mind reading reviews. Might take a couple wears by itself to understand how superior this is to its "competitors"... But they'll be worth it. Oud Sublime for incense & oud, Patchouli Sublime for "barbershop" lavender & patchouli... Just perfection. As a lavender fan, Patchouli Sublime was instant love. Yet Oud Sublime's incense kept drawing me back in, too. Both are just impossible to stop sniffing. These 2 bottles stand alone, head & shoulders above the rest of the Nicolai line (& perfume industry). No doubt about it. If these are your notes, these are your Holy Grail bottles. Absolutely second-to-none, all-day bliss! A true master perfumer, dialing it all to 11... Just what I needed! =)

Upon first application, you get a burst of oud. Then other players join the party, mostly incense. The rose-patchouli aren't all that obvious (thank God!), and the whole affair really is about the aromatic oud supported by incense and aromatic spices. And what a beautiful oud it is. Don't expect anything like the in-your-face overwhelming oud of Malle's The Night: this oud is more sophisticated and refined, less harsh, but not shy by any means: it makes its presence known and you should be careful with overspraying. It is also incredibly persistent: it lasts and lasts and it remains in the air even after you thought it was gone. If you like refined, assertive oud-based perfumes, I'd even suggest a blind buy. Beautiful packaging also, and the price may seem high but I'd say it's not too much considering the quality you get. Two thumbs up! Edit: upon more wearings, the patchouli is actually a lot more prominent than I thought.

While Oud Sublime is definitely a more intense version of another Nicolai fragrance, it's not Patchouli Intense, which is powdery and floral. This is essentially the Parfum/Extrait version of Incense Oud - itself a tenacious EDP and an amazing value for the price. That said, if you're a fan of scents that linger past the 12 hour mark, or you want to treat yourself to an absolutely gorgeous presentation, Oud Sublime can't be beat.

Haven't smelled any others from the house but I enjoy this. Quality mix, very smooth and refined.

Funny to read so many reviewers advising to save the money and go with Incense Oud or Patchouli Intense or even a couple of others from the PdN range. So you can deduce they really all do smell almost identical given the feedback here and elsewhere. Not very good marketing or product development from this company in allowing their final products to be so close together it begs the question why one would even consider the prices listed for Oud Sublime or even Patchouli Sublime for that matter. For an elixir concentration, really the sillage and longevity are sub par, becoming a faint skin scent in just an hour. To get around the poor performance, PdN in an article before talked about intentionally keeping the sillage and projection more subdued as not to overwhelm those around with the superlative nature of the scent. Nifty and crafty way of getting around a final product which just does not deserve such a lofty price tag. At least they got that part correct. No better than a 5/10 in my book.

Nicolai makes quality stuff no doubt. This one, to my nose, is a hefty dose of patchouli that mixes with, but somewhat overpowers, the Oud. It's also a very linear scent. As for the price, well, that's subjective. To me, anything priced over $300 better have lasting power throughout the day. Something that smells great, costs $500, and then disappears in an hour isn't worth the bottle it's sitting in. This one, yes, lasts all day and then some. I could easily smell it the next morning and that's rare. I just don't like the smell, too much patchouli and patchouli and Oud don't mix well to my nose. So if you like it it's probably worth a consideration for the price.

This elixir de parfum is incredibly beautiful. If you like Oud scents and Patricia de Nicolai's creations, you can even buy it blind. Otherwise, give it a try. I seem to detect traces of Maharani and Patchouli Homme all wrapped up in a smooth ambery oudy veil which is only slightly sweet. The 35 ml elixir's price is, taking into account that real Cambodian Oud has been used (as a representative of Nicolai's told me), and that it comes as an elixir concentration, not too high in my opinion. Go for the real Guerlain.

Had very high hopes for it but was greatly disappointed. Not smell real oud in here. Oud note smells like a cheap alternative from one of the big fragrance companies. For me that cheap note ruins the fragrance =( Better to enjoy their New Yourk Intense or Patchouli.

To add to my comment below, it's pointless to drop the $$ on this one when Patchouli Intense is basically the exact same fragrance. And I mean exactly the same.

A green fresh edge to the Cambodian Oud. Patchouli and artemesia gives the oud a exotic forest feel. High quality and smooth. If this is your jam it delivers.

First whiff was campari or a nice apertif. Quickly settles to a beautiful oud & green party. Very nice.
