Rose Pivoine

I love this perfume for spring and summer. So feminine, delicate and elegant. I can smell rose, peony, and sandalwood. Fresh and clean, natural scent. Timeless, chic, I strongly recommend for all occasions (office, brunch, etc). Very versatile. 9/10 In this brand, for spring and summer, Rose Pivoine (rose, pivoine, sandalwood) > Fig Tea (osmanthus, fig, tea) = Eau Mixte (citrus, mint, blackcurrants, vetiver) = Eau de Yuzu (yuzu, grapefruit, wood) > Cap Neroli (neroli, petit grain, oakmoss).

I regard Patricia de Nicolaï and her eponymous house very highly, and find her creations to be consistently excellent. However, Rose Pivoine is the first Nicolaï scent that has left me underwhelmed. A simplistic peony-rose freshie, there is little here to make this one stand out. Despite being undeniably pleasant, I have smelled many similar scents. However, it is good-quality and decent overall. Lightweight, herbal and equal parts fresh and sweet, RP is a nice example of a fuss-free, everyday rose/peony. RP is rosy from initial spray, more peony than rose, light, sweet and slightly aquatic. The red berries add sweetness up top, more jammy than juicy. The peony lingers as it develops, with some dewy rose alongside it. A herbal undertone comes to the fore, complementing the florals nicely. I get more chamomile than geranium, and it becomes quite medicinal, as @librabeing below mentioned already, reminiscent of a health food shop. It becomes musky as it fades, the sweet florals and herbal edge lingering until final fade. Sillage and longevity are moderate. It is a feminine-leaning spring/summer scent or daytime use. A lightweight peony scent with a herbal undertone, RP is pleasant and good-quality, but is nothing exciting. The medicinal quality of the herbal accord is the only facet of this scent that feels slightly unusual, but even that is a stretch. Still, I like this for what is is - a bunch of freshly-cut, green-tinged roses and peonies in a bottle. 3/5.

Very soft and delicate. It reminds me of my bottle of accorelle silky rose which is almost gone. And my bottle of bvlgari rose goldea. Soft berry touches with a geranium forward rose. I get a soft bouquet of berries, chamomile, geranium, roses, white peonies, musk. Not a lot of sillage and longevity is poor which is to bad since it is so pretty. This would be perfect for those "no perfume" areas. They would never know but you would. And life calls for these types of perfumes at times. I may pick this up if I find a deal. It is such a charming scent. The more I smell it the more I like it. If you like very natural smelling fragrances that are soft, pretty, delicate but will make you smell like you are covered in petals this is a good one. This is a good fragrance for those places where you need to smell nice but soft. Like a hospital setting.

This is a nice peony-rose blend. The two flowers cohabit peacefully. The peony is not harsh and grating, as I often find it to be in perfumes. The rose is fresh. There is also some complexity and depth to the composition. I see that chamomile is listed among the notes, but it is not sour at all. I like this simple floral blend. It's more appealing to me than the popular designer house fresh roses (as in Chloé) currently available. Rose Pivoine strikes a good balance between traditional and modern. I just noticed that peony is not listed among the notes. This sure smells like peony and rose to me!

Rose, gentle rose. Nothing else to add. Yes, a hint of carnation and wood-musky base are noticable. Nonetheless, my skin consumed the perfume. It merged harmoniouslly and left lovely, almost nude trail. I enjoy it, but it is just for me: maybe, romanticly, for someone who would like to kiss me tenderly on the neck. Others, at a greater distance, will not have the inkling.

Light, watery rose with perfectly ripe, fleshy fruits underpinning it. Aspects of pear, berries, and a fizzy citrus dance with rose and peony, the No Added Sweetener of feminine fruity-floral fragrances. Very fresh but with the faintest hint of something warmer lurking beneath. Unfortunately extremely faint right from the outset. Soft projection for <2hr, longevity 4-5hr.

While not a groundbreaking fragrance by any means, I have to commend Patricia for creating a rose fragrance I actually like. Normally rose makes me feel so sick to my stomach, but Patricia mixes it so well that I can actually enjoy it and that's the case for every perfume she has made with a rose note, but especially this one. I can actually wear it and feel good.

Very delicate and soft. On skin I don’t smell any of the berries, just gentle rose, geranium, and a little bit of musk. Definitely a skin scent on me and it all but disappears after a couple hours. If you want a clean scent that’s just for you, maybe I’d recommend? Otherwise I think there are better rose perfumes out there for the price

A pretty and feminine scent. The berrys smell really good mixed with the rose but I think it would be better without the chamomile. Better than average and well composed, but it doesn't touch top rose fragrances like Les Indemodables Rose Jamal, Kilian Rose Oud or even POAL IMO. Scent 5.5/10

A realistic smell of roses and peonies. Light, classic and elegant. Not offensive and suitable for any occasion and everyday use. Very nice and beautiful flower composition. Personally, I would like to wear this somewhere where I can enjoy art. Like a museum, theatre, ballet, etc.

The official, correct notes, from the brand: Top - Ambrette seeds, raspberry, black currant and bergamot. Heart - Rose, geranium, violette, peony, orris butter and black pepper. Base - Sandalwood, incense and musk.

A light pretty rose scent with that tangy kind of lemony berry top note and a little spice from geranium. Initially I thought it was a nice little rose scent, not very noticeable but pleasant. Then it developed this weird underlying tone of musty and also sharp gasoline. I would almost think saffron was in here but it’s not listed. I’m not sure if this is the chamomile or what but on my skin it took a sour turn and never recovered from that. It doesn’t last long or project much.

For its performance and complexity, it is hugely overpriced. This is a simple rose scent, with a hint of spiciness (barely there) that smells like many other rose perfumes. It reminds me of Bright Crystal from Versace, although the latter has better performance in my opinion. The dry down brings out the chamomile a bit more, but still keeps the strong rose scent. Personally I wouldn't go for it again, not even if it was half the actual price.

I chose this one next, from my sample kit, because I wanted a break from everything with "intense" at the end of it. In that way, Rose Pivoine is nice and pleasant. But I think the chamomile adds a bit of a medicinal vibe to it that I'm not loving. And there's something plasticky and doll's-head-like about the entire scent. It's definitely not interesting enough to compete with other rose fragrances I have, so it's a pass.

I thought this would be an easy like, but unfortunately that chamomile stands out way too much for my liking. In the dry down the chamomile is all I can smell, no rose and barely any peonie - so if you love chamomile, this might be a good one for you 😊

This is warmer than I anticipated. I suppose with the fruity herbal description I excepted something a little more effervescent. This is soft and musky. Solely based on my taste this could use something to brighten it a little.

Delicate, pretty and, sadly, a bit boring.

Not bad, but not great either. Rose Pivioine, with a noticeably absent pivoine, is mostly clean, tart rose and sour berries, with little depth. It smells (and performs) like a body spray, and sometimes even echoes the Dove Freesia spray I used to wear years ago. It would be quite nice in a soap.

The fixation for geranium this perfume house has ruins this perfume too.

At first you get a very FAINT spiciness from the geranium along with the earthiness of woods and soil - the TINIEST BIT; not enough to notice - mixed in with n ULTRA GENTLE soft pink rose... I was over the moon smelling that opening until the notes of berry mixed with a tiny touch of clear simple syrup - such a miniscule amount not enough to be sticky, syrupy or overly sweet - started to evolve. It turned into a dupe for Dior's Holy Peony and vice versa but with MUCH LESS over the top sweetness that Dior has and more of a natural sense of ingredients as oppose to Dior's more commercial/designer artificial notes. I am not a fan of sweetened berries with roses or peonies which is why I was sad not to find a soft rose scent from Nicolai Parfumeur without them. Bright Crystal Absolu does have a mix of berries and peony but it lacks the syrupy sweetness and has a stunning spritely citrus accord that heightens and brightened the composition making it cleaner and crisp. And though I love the smell of Bright Crystal Absolu it was never a total fit with my personality as I am more of a photorealistic florals type and less enamoured with well blended fragrance that comes off more commercial in nature. The same reason, along with the syrupy berry notes is why I have to pass. I love Nicolai's Angelys Pear and I was hoping to find an even more demure fragrance that is as artful and unique from the mainstream trends. I hope they do come out with a rose soliflore that is as close to a single rose as possible with no added notes. If you are a fan of delicate fruity florals this may be for you - like a pretty haze of translucent light pink watercolors.

Believe your nose (...and the name of the perfume). There is a strong note of Peony, and rose, beginning at the very opening of the scent. Why the Peony note has been left off Fragrantica's note pyramid is a mystery. is there also a berry-like note? Yes many fresh rose notes, and peony accords will possess such an element, but tthe overall fragrance is not primarily fruit. The first adjective axis I consider with rose-based scents is how floral (sweet) vs. how foliar (green). I would place Rose Pivoine near the center, but leaning more towards the sweet floral side. With so many, many rose perfumes. I can think of other similar scents, but I'll refrain from naming them since none are truly identical. This scent plays more richly on skin, but brighter on a blotter (or fabric). I'm enjoying both effects

I really like this opening. It's fruity and zesty with just the right 'Ooh!', and this from a gal who is NOT a fruity fan. It doesn't change much, and I"m happy about this. It's a straight up feminine scent that won't offend anyone. It's also cross-generational, and I wouldn't peg it as a 'young' or 'mature'. The rose has some fat on it; the base notes more rock and gravel. I love that geranium was brought in, as it adds a centering effect that holds this together. Mmm! Well done, Patricia!

Super sweet, almost like candy or juice. I honestly wouldn't know this was a rose scent if I hadn't been told. I smell mostly berries but never the less, it is well blended and complex. Smells expensive, just like everything from this house. I think this would be a nice alternative to the sickly sweet department store berry scents that are so popular right now.

This is a beautiful dominant rose fragrance, true to its name. The rose rests on a musky, woody base. While it seems like a basic rose scent, it has a complex and interesting dry down, as one expects from Nicolai. A sophisticated fragrance, definitely a signature worthy perfect for women 30+ 7.5/10

This should get more attention and love. I like it very much and unlike so many perfumes, this one actually lasts a long time. The rose in it is similar to Paul Smith Rose. There is a slight grassiness which I'm guessing is from the geranium or chamomile. But it's still mostly Rose.

Feminine, delicate, rose and berries. The musk gives this an almost paper-like quality, like reading a letter perfumed by a loved one. A very approachable scent that I could imagine suitable for office wear. Not the most challenging, so good for relaxed and friendly settings.

A lovely fragrance. On my skin I get a mix of sweet Roses, Chamomile, woody notes and Musk. Fresh and flirty. Perfect for spring/summertime. En härlig doft. På min hud får jag en mix av söta rosor, Kamomill, tränoter och Musk. Fräsch och flirtig. Perfekt vår/sommardoft.

Reminds me of a perfume I wore in the late 90s, but I can't put my finger on it. It's that strong aquatic/watery/melony note --the calone smell that was ubiquitous back then--over top a sweet, bright rose. I would wear it in the spring or summer. Very nice.

This is a nice fresh rose, smells like ababy rose with dew dops on it. I don't really smell the berries much but there is a powdery quality to this scent, just soft but still there. I dont normally like rose scents but this is okay.

This is so pretty! charming fruity, pink rosy scent. Pivoine, chamomile and rose with a dewy freshness. I think I have similar scents, but this is so so pretty. I would like a full bottle. Very good projection and longevity.

Marc Menke is right about the peony note. I too do get it next to the rose. This is a very simplistic fragrance from Patricia de Nicolai almost boring. Oh well
