Violette in Love

My husband, who hasn't personally chosen a fragrance for me since 1997 (Chanel Allure), recently purchased Violette In Love for me, and I'd never smelled it before. I was thrilled the first time I wore it, because I found it so flattering to receive this exquisite scent. While Violette is much more indicative of my husband's fragrance taste than my usual choices, it's touching that he thinks this suits me. Violette is an airy light scent, unmistakably violet, but not powdery or innocent. I agree with the reviewer who mentioned how well this would work on a bride. It has the joyful radiance of a bright bouquet. It doesn't smell like En Passant or others, but it has that magical diaphanous quality usually found in the works of Olivia Giacobetti. Violette is pure prettiness, feminity, and happiness, and it's romantic in an iconic, luxurious way. Unfortunately, its lasting power is remarkably poor.

This is my first green fragrance of any kind. I've tried greens before and they invariably failed on my skin. But this one is truly a beauty that is beholdable by most Violet lovers. Violette in Love is a violet perfume adorned by a most juicy-sweet raspberry note. I cannot think of anyone who would not like at least a whiff of it from the bottle. The only downside is that, because it is an EDT, it has a lasting power of 2 hours the most. So if you love it on your skin, you'd need to keep re--applying throughout the day and eventually go broke because it is SO expensive. LOL! Then again my skin doesn't emanate perfume - it DRINKS it. So maybe on someone else's skin, it might last twice as much if they are lucky. I just feel lucky to have found this delicate little gem and will keep it in my collection for those special occasions.

Sweet, bright, fruity, soft violet with a musky base. It's not the scent of violet pastilles which are more floral smelling/tasting. Not overly sweet. Wholly unsophisticated. A sweet nothing, really. I got a sample on a whim with a larger sample order and completely expected to not like it. Turned out it's the sample I kept coming back to after catching a whiff on my clothes. It's so cheerful and uncomplicated, which is just what I need these days.

When I was in uni, I was lucky enough to work in a supermarket (I mean that, I really TRULY do -- I learnt so much about people and their habits, tendencies and the like), and I worked in the dairy department a few times. Those fridges are really TRULY cold -- like, 30 C below zero. Once, when I was working unpacking a load/shipment, I ended up spending a good 30 - 45 minutes in and out of the freezer, and there is this unique 'frozen' smell. It's insane how I've processed and stored this smell, really it is. I can smell it in frozen meat fridges, I smelt it in -15 C temps in Western Finland, and I've smelt it in Northern Japan, too. I get a frozen violet in this, and not much else. I get all the gentle, delicate elements of the violet itself, but with this frozen accord, if you will. It's uncanny. It's not 100% beautiful or anything like that, but it's unique... I don't see myself wearing this or even seeking more of it out, but it's an intriguing scent, that's for sure... ***EDIT*** About 3 or 4 hours in, the frigid Tohoku elements fade, and what remains is a dainty Parma-esque violet-orris number that is an absolute delight to take it. It is in the Misia / Love in Black terrain, so I won't be seeking this out. But it is AMAZINGLY gorgeous...

I am impressed with this fragrance--it's an interesting and successfully blended mixture of sweets, powder, and herbs. It reminds me of the smell of Walgreen's/CVS/Rite Aid during Valentine's Day when they have out those boxes of chocolates contrasting with the smell of mouthwash in the next aisle over. I love that smell. Violette in Love reminds me of romance in a very approachable, realistic, "brushing our teeth together" kind of way, rather than a lofty, Hollywood, "love at first sight with our hair blowing in the wind on top of the Eiffel tower" kind of way.

Like other reviewers have mentioned the violet gets lost among the other notes, it's not as prominent as the name would have you believe. Lemon is the most prominent note on my skin, refreshing and cool. The violet is slightly sweet from the combination with the raspberry note and as noticeable as the rose. It's not as powdery as other violet perfumes, but you can tell there's some orris root in this scent. A nice feminine option for the warmer months that won't offend or bother anyone around you.

This is a very pleasant perfume. On me the raspberry note dominates. I don't get any of the musk base. It's just raspberry that fades. As others have noted, it doesn't last long. Three hours under the best conditions. Reminds me of Miss Charming, with violet replacing Miss Charming's rose. I prefer Miss Charming though it too doesn't last.

quite pretty and fresh, not overtly violet...but but but.....the staying power is just not there for me. i got an hour -tops out of this. it is awfully pretty, though.

Violet is a note I can take or leave, I neither love it, nor do I dislike it. So this is not a scent I chose to test on my own, it was sample I got as a gift in a swap. The name made me expect a romantic violet perfume. And while violet is clearly the main note here, the opening is not romantic at all - it's intensely lemony! Really sharp and bracing. The coriander with its green spiciness adds to that. Together they smell like a lemon that is a bit past its prime. I find it quite dissonant. The rest of the fragrance is a nice, fairly standard blend of violet and rose with iris powder and a hint of raspberry. A cosmetic, lipstick-like scent. When the fragrance has dried down and the harsh lemon has vanished, it becomes very feminine and yes, also a little romantic. It's nice then, but there are so many better fragrances in this genre that I see no reason to wait through the opening. Performance-wise I find this to be good, on my skin it's not gone quickly like some other reviewers mentioned.

Honestly, I didn't think was a particularly "modern" interpretation of violet. First sprayed, it's a blast of pure lemon juice. Then, the sweet, sweet sugared violet develops and the fragrance turns into violet-flavored pez, at least on my skin. You know the smell of ascorbic acid (Vitamin C tablets)? This smells like that, combined with violet candy. Not my thing.

I love almost anything from the house of Nicolai but the musk and orris are way too strong. I love raspberries and lemons, but I don't smell them at all after the drydown. It lasts forever so that's a plus. Unfortunately this is a no for me. Longevity 8/10 Sillage 6/10 Projection 5/10

Sadly a disappointment for me. This was a spicy and rather sharp and bold fragrance with little violet in it on my skin. I was hoping for a soft fruity violet. For anyone who is looking for a raspberry-violet scent, I'd recommend Violette Imperiale which does it very well.

For me this was bitter. A strange smell on my skin, could not smell the violets. I would not sugest buying this one blind!

A lovely violet that takes a while to emerge from behind rose, orris, and coriander.

(Previous review pulled) I circled back to this one when I saw it was released mass market. My previous sample was from a limited edition Paris only, and I was curious to see if the scent had changed. I believe it has. My previous review pegged this as a nice 'green take on a purple note'. Now I'm getting something different: a nice pepper take on a purple note. This opening had me dancing on my tippy toes, literally. I LOVED it. I don't detect straight on violette, but a full bodied grape note. With pepper. Made me add a little cha cha to my dance. As a diffuse halo this is just awesome. Can't get enough of it, actually. I have one complaint: I"m not liking it so much when i stick my nose against my shirt. The drydown is a bit 'laundry detergent' on me, and something isn't meshing well. I'll try it again on a different occasion, but the wafting halo is the key to loving this. Overall, a standing ovation of Rockette kicks!

Strange name because (on me at least) this is far more a rose scent than a violet one. It opens with a beautiful rose, dry but not powdery. Hints of raspberry sweeten the deal, but never too much. After about half an hour, I start to catch whiffs of a very haughty violet and it compliments the rose beautifully. Then, an hour later, it's gone. An hour and a half, that's it, that's all I got. It was beautiful while it lasted, but I'd be mad if I paid far less for a perfume that only lasted this long, there's no way I'm paying these prices for one. Niche houses really need to work on their longevity issues because this is far from the only one with this problem. They must test these frags before they put them out for sale. The fact that someone has realised well in advance that customers will get barely any time out of wearing a perfume and still choose to sell it anyway is downright disrespectful.

the challenges overcome by Parfums Nicolai dealing with violets, peonies, and non-traditional attributes make for true mainstays. if social class divides could be overcome the way Parfums Nicolai handles an entirely cultivated line of EDT, the Globe would not want for a cent. wearing this brings one in touch with being an adored bunch of purple petals the way no one else will ever look on the person again. sweet, respected, understanding, longing to keep the plant fresh and lively with enough love and water to last . . . until both salt the dearth.

This is a very pretty scent, but I was hoping for a more prominent violet accord. To my nose, the rose and berry initially steal the show, and then it becomes lemony. Unfortunately, I don't really care for citrus much on myself. I gave this perfume 4 or 5 wearings, but it never quite settled on my skin. I think on the right person it could be a beautiful and light summer scent.

To me this is a violet in sugar. But sweetness is not sticky and syrupy as has been mentioned - it is rather a sweet crystallised sugar. Slight hint of citrus juice there as well. The whole impression is clean, crisp, but also with certain simplicity and innocence. Very evocative of a bride in a white dress.

On my skin, more raspberry than violet. There is also a sweeet ingredient which is not listed. Nice fragrance but instead of floral green I would categorise as floral fruity. Probaly created this Nicolai for the younger, careless generation. Her other scents submit more maturity, elegance.

So tired of Perfumes that DO NOT LAST!!! We need to return them each and every time to get the message out to these houses that this is NOT OK. Give us what we pay for!!

a beautiful and unassuming summer fragrance with notes of lemon, rose, and violets. So refreshing and pleasant!

I'd call this perfume Lemony Rose in Love, very pretty, but there is just a homeopathic dose of violet in it.
