L'Air du Temps

I bought this fragrance at a very affordable price at a CVS store. Love the bottle in clear glass with plastic doves. At the first spritz, I'm smelling fizzy bubbly aldehydes, reminiscent of Chanel No. 22. I am also picking up on the neroli. This is a fresh & bright citrus and orange blossom opening; but almost soon afterward I am getting mostly white floral accords and soapy, powdery florals. I can detect the floral bunch in the heart rather quickly. The performance progression is not slow at all. I don't think this perfume is as complex as the note structure makes it out to be. Yes it's primarily a floral, but to my nasal detection it's more of one or the other kind of flower. The first flower to reach me was the carnation. It's a slightly spicy carnation. The carnation floral note is put into the formula two times. Then there's gardenia and jasmine, which give it a white floral kick. Then there's a tangy violet and finally an iris. The iris is giving this scent a powdery body. Beautiful and soft flowers. The reformulation selling right now is a subdued, subtle floral bouquet. Perhaps at the original release year, 1948, the perfume were stronger. Of course today we can't tolerate heavy florals so they re-make classic florals and subdue them.The whole thing is like a sweet floral scented bath product - a soap, a bath oil, a powder. It's delicacy evokes a very clean and pristine white walled bedroom in a mansion that has an adjacent white bath tub. I can see a white bed with all white pillows and sheets and covers. The bath tub has white bubbles. Because of the 'white' coloring and the soapiness plus florals, this is also very similar to Estee Lauder White Linen. It's one of those classic aldehyde florals but not as va va va voom as Chanel No. 5. It's definitely demure, innocent, and very lady-like. This would make a beautiful wedding day fragrance for a bride in a white wedding gown. Besides a bride, it also conjures up the image of a nun! Like a white habit color on a nun. A clean and very peaceful, spiritual woman would wear this, not necessarily a nun, but you get it. The floral soap lingers for a while but I wish it lasted longer. This has a duration of no longer than 4 to 5 hours (at least on me). The dry down is a white musk, amber and possibly a hint of vanilla. I'm not picking up on any vetiver or green notes. This is a gorgeous cozy white musk; soothing and simple. Some bright amber in there acting as a fixative to hold the whole scent together. This perfume is hard to wear in public for me. It is too comfortable and peaceful, and also too domestic. This belongs only inside the house. I feel I can only wear this with my nightie right before bed after my shower or bath and to help put me to sleep. I spray it over the bed in the air and over my pillows. It's a relaxing and very therapeutic fragrance. Talk about aroma therapy. At the ridiculously affordable price of under 40 bucks, you are getting an absolutely lovely perfume. It's a vintage that tries to evoke the glory of white floral classics like Chanel 22 but more affordable! I also love it in spring and summer months because it's so cool and refreshing. I just love L'air du temps!

Starts off with fresh neroli, Powdery clovy carnation, and aldehydes. Transforms after 30 minutes into a heady realistic lily with carnation and a dry woody powdery texture. Give it more time, and it turns into a honeyed floral amber. It has been a long time since i have smelled something so layered and transformative. The opening is nothing like the wear of this scent, which i dont really experience a lot with other scents. I frequently keep smelling the opening notes until the end of a perfume, which can be good or bad. something opens with something bad, i will keep smelling the bad thing until the end of the perfumes wear. Which shouldnt be the case but it is my experience Air du temps is a beautiful vintage floral. Florals in all their glory. Its hard to mix so many flowers and still get it to smell good, but it works amazingly here. Modern floral bouquet shampoos always smell too clean or vague, air du temps smells convincingly of each flower in here. The opening might be a bit baby powdery, but that disappears fast. Edit: longevity and sillage is shockingly good. I sprayed it on my wrist in the morning, then went somewhere for quite a bit and i continuously got strong wafts of this. No, not a feint smell, GENUINE strong wafts. After about 4 hours it did stop projecting to my own nose, but i always have that issue when im inside the same building for too long. 8 hours in i can still smell the honey carnation woody drydown. Im in love. Decidedly a feminine perfume but i wear it regardless. Good statement maker if you’re a boy who doesnt gaf like me

Oh my lord. I'm not sure if this perfume totally works on my skin, which seems to pull the scent of freesia (not listed in notes) out of it. But on fabric it's deeper and richer and I honestly just love sniffing the bottles, too. I am not sure if what is reading as freesia to me is the peachy notes mixing with carnation. It is not a carnation like I have encountered in many old vintages, which might just be because my older bottles have degraded and deepened with time. The two L'air bottles I have are an edt and edp I believe to be from the early 80s (columbes d'or glass bottles) and they do take me back to the time when I was 13 and had one of those tiny sample bottles with the plastic doves. That bottle was probably mid 90s. I think it was darker and more bitter somehow. The first really grown up scent I ever really wore. I remember being slightly repulsed by it but also unable to stop smelling my wrist. This is such a sexy scent. No wonder it was too much for me! It's very floral and perhaps old-fashioned, but the notes seem to combine to form a scent like warm skin or breath. The warm skin of an amorous woman. This seems to be common with Nina Ricci scents and I definitely need to seek more of them. I can't smell an overwhelming clove like in Indiscret, Styx, or Nuit de Noel, and I'm surprised it considered warm spicy. The spices like other notes are masterfully blended and round. This is a classic for a reason, and it reminds me of trying to grow up too fast. Just gorgeous.

Perfect scent for after the bath, fresh cozies, snuggled up in a soapy clean hug with beautiful flowers and grounding wood. Must be in the mood for LDT, or appreciate that rich French soap, as it is prominent here. Mine is EDT, and I dream of one day owning the stronger EDP... I want this to last the whole night and wake up to be embraced by her unconditional love, again. I save this gem and layer over Ylang-Ylang, cedarwood and sandalwood essential oils and sometimes Heaven Sent for extra wood, powder, flowers and soap, on the nights I miss her the most. The flowers are the cherry on top as they bring beauty to this vintage classic. The history alone is enough to catch your attention... There is no syrup, no cookies, no sugar, no candy. Times are tough, and she means business, she has work to do around the house, and as they say, cleanliness is next to godliness. If you have this sitting around collecting dust, go soak in the bath and indulge in this afterwards, before bed. If you don't like it, try it again next season. This is a safe blind buy for those who love that intense rich soap and cleanliness scent, if you want to smell clean while you tidy the house, if you're missing your beloved grandmother and nothing short of her holding you in person will do.. Alas, she isn't here. L'air du Temps will hug you back as Grammie smiles down at you from the Other Side.

L’Air du Temps is a scent which has been the victim of its own success, a creation which, at the time, was so marvellously unique and masterful that it’s popularity made it commonplace for many women to wear it. Because of this, it began to get left behind and its beauty and charm all but forgotten by most. It is a warm, spicy floral scent which captivates the heart immediately, seemingly moving and swirling in the air around you. A fresh, vibrant harmony of bergamot, neroli and aldehydes radiate off the skin through the inclusion of a gorgeously smooth and comforting rosewood note. Among a typically vintage floral heart, the profile is made warmer still by an overwhelming dose of carnation, but also that slightly bitter-spicy clove note. The end result is enchanting - dry, spicy and warm, wrapping the wearer in a blanket of dense florals. I love this fragrance, I think it should continue to receive the praise it deserves. I have two bottles in my collection, a vintage EDT and the current EDP. There is a great similarity between the two, but I find where the modern formulation is much smoother and more rounded with the floral heart, the vintage is far more confident and brash in its spicy facets. Both are stunning, I often layer them together as the vintage doesn’t last long on my skin.

I'm pretty sure my grandmother did not wear this perfume. I lived with her from my birth to her death, and in those two decades I don't recall her wearing any perfume (being allergic to most of them). So WHY is it that L'Air du Temps really, REALLY reminds me of her? Did she wear it when I was very young, before her skin became even more sensitive with age? Is it just because I know she was a teenager/young woman when this was released and I can just imagine her popping into Boots the chemist or Woolworths for a bottle? Is it because everyone else says their grandmas wore it? I really don't know, but this perfume feels like... it feels like a cool spring day, the wind a little too biting for the time of year, but then you just get swept up in this all-encompassing, soapy-floral woollen hug and now you're grateful for the unseasonably cool weather, because you can appreciate the warmth of that hug even more. I know that most people would consider "reminds me of grandmothers" as a negative, but this scent is SO comforting and evocative that I don't care if people think I smell like an old lady or if it's too mature for an early-twenties woman. I just love it so much, and it's the sort of perfume that reminds me why I love perfume so much - it really does carry a story.

This is an adorable creation that screams classic and timeless everywhere. The current formula has a very off putting opening of aldehydes that smell chemical. But please don’t judge it for it’s opening, wait a couple of minutes and you won’t regret it. Then you will be surrounded by beautiful flowers where carnation, a very Spanish style one takes the leading part. Roses, jasmines and gardenias are the backup supporting it’s middle notes and then sandalwood, moss and amber are the base for this gorgeous floral perfume. Very short lived in either edt or edp but I couldn’t imagine something so sublime being strident, heavy or suffocating everyone around you. I can really see a softer and romantic Mitsouko sister when I smell L’air du Temps. Where the first is melancholic and dark the second is joyful, innocent and full of light. A perfect spring time fragrance but can be used in every season. Very feminine however due to it’s resemblance to Mitsouko I would say that men can also pull it off. Besides this is so beautiful that everyone should at least sample it once in their life. The only negative thing is that I really would love a better longevity, it’s a shame losing it after a couple of hours but other than that this is pure class and perfection.

There are already plenty of beautiful reviews, I add mine because my experience seems to be a little bit different. First, I received the 30 ml EDT in an ugly white plastic bottle. Not a joke. Believe me or not, it spoiled my encounter with the whole thing. I wanted wings, I received a cheap looking deodorant. But then, the juice. Several weeks later, I can say that this little thing is one of the most synesthetic that I know, requiring images, textures, and even hearing. I really see little talcum flakes, light and delicate, dancing in the late amber light of an autumnal sun. The sunlight falls at a low angle, dotted with white freshness. The slightly metallic and dusty side is reinforced by the cold carnation, and the yellow orange light is made tender by a certain creaminess, nevertheless warm spicy without excess. It looks like stardust because all this is translucent, light, airy. For me it is an extremely silent fragrance, an intense silence, comforting, soothing. « Silence is gold ». All this beauty takes a little time to be tamed, in a St Exupery’s fox way, it fears shortcuts (no no it's not chanel 5, no it's not Arpège), then it settles like a thin lace on the skin and it radiates serenely, calm and peaceful.

When these were new fragrances back in 1948, they were modern. Then that generation turned into moms and grandmoms. Step back and take a look. These fruity gourmandy vanillas that are beating the pavements today will certainly be a mom fragrance, then a grandma fragrance, thereafter. Time is of the essence. That being said: L'air du Temps This was my signature frag for many years. I am a vintage nut, and this easily could have been my mothers perfume back then, but who would expect a 20 year old to wear it in 1982 with heavy Obsession Giorgio and Poison going on? Uniqueness is my thing. I didn't want to blend in the "modern" fragrances of the 80's that I cannot wear til this day. Understandably, a 20 year old today may love those frags, and not want to blend in with the fruity stuff. Because I stood out from the dark ambery, musky, tuberosey, insensed powerhouses, I was instantly noticed, and complimented. It's bright, powdery, clean, green, no sweetness, but not sour... mellows to an orange blossom with hyacinth and violet... a little aquatic, with a peek a boo character, woody, and long lasting. And above all, no plastic!! It is so vintage , that you will never find a blend such as this today. It's a fine wine.

8yr old bottle .. edt formulation Very woody with prominent sandalwood note Soapy and very powdery too. Floral but warm. No one floral note is conspicuous but rather blended and round. There's a definite mossy smell. One of the best Chypre fragrances. There's a lot of history since it released in 1948 and has undergone many reformulations. I have always found LdT to be reminiscient of sandalwood paste or the whole sandalwood stick rather than the essential oil as the woody aspect stands out. COMPARISON Out of sheer burgeoning curiosity ordered a brand new bottle to test the current formulation. My heart sank a bit when I noticed the fragrance to have been made in Spain and with trepidation tried the first spray. It did not disappoint. My older bottle is made in France and is oblong and slender in contrast to the present stout one in the fragrantica dp which reminds me of dragon fruit but looks very pretty in hand. Like someone below mentioned that Silence of the Lambs scene where Hannibal Lecter sniffs LdT from Clarice, I too was roused to buy LdT by that scene but at the time 19 years ago I lacked the means. The current formulation mfg 2023 is lighter. The old juice of 2016 is much deeper, richer and woodier.

An absolutely beautiful and classic fragrance! Recently I was given a bottle of LdT by a loved one and it instantly brought back halcyon memories of my late grandmother. She was a very strong, hard-working, kind woman of faith who grew up in the Great Depression and married a man who was called to serve in WW2. She did not wear many perfumes but this was one of her favourites and it brings to mind her love of gardening and the beautiful flowers she grew - carnations, lilies, violets, roses - which were bordered by beds of rosemaries and had bees buzzing over them in the spring and summertime. LdT begins with the strong scent of aldehydes but then the mingled warmth of carnations and clove along with the gentle soapiness of white florals wafts up in an intoxicating mix. While the modern version of LdT is not as a strong as I remember it is still an absolutely beautiful fragrance, very feminine and warm while being elegant. For me it immediately brings strong memories of my grandmother to mind and these are filled with warmth and love from a beautiful woman. This is a fragrance that I like to wear on warm days and in the evenings curled up reading by the fireplace.

I'm wearing a limited-edition formulation of this fragrance, sent by a generous friend, and I can't for the life of me figure out which one, but it's definitely not this one. She did say that the formulation I'm wearing bears little resemblance to the classic fragrance, which is good because otherwise I would think my nose had gone haywire. I like this fragrance a lot--in the beginning I got a very vintage aldehydic floralcy, and then it turned into a greenish-woody scent that reminded me a little of LOTV, and then I got a pretty intense jasmine and what smells to me for all the world like the same salty marine accord I get from Idôle Aura or the Dua impression, Aura of Roses. It smells to me for all the world like hot buttered popcorn in combination with the musks and benzoins. I suspect that this review will make no sense unless you just happen to have the same limited-edition version that my pen pal sent me. I still don't know what the OG L'Air du Temps smells like, but there is no way it smells like this special flanker, whatever it is.

I can't stop reaching for this whenever my nose is tired of vanillas and gourmands. It smells classic, but not like an old lady. Definitely fancy hotel soap vibes, but it's still an airy breeze. I would have never purchased this myself. It was gifted by my mother in law, and I thought at best it would just be a pretty bottle on the vanity. It really surpassed my expectations. With it's kitchen sink list of notes it still smells rounded and not overbearing. The carnation shines. A powdery aspect from the iris, but not stale or too makeupy. Classy rose. I don't get much of the spice and I'm happy about that. This is just pretty. Lasts at 'peak performance' about 5 hours on my skin, then fades to a fresh out of the shower clean skin scent. Timeless, any season, any age. Great everyday scent. I love having this in my rotation, I consider it a very safe palette cleanser. When your senses have been overwhelmed by smelling heavy, sweet fragrances - switch it up and turn to a frag like this which is a classic for a reason.

L'Air du Temps is a baroque type of lightness, its aldehydes bubble and twinkle among the gentle lilt of citrus and peach, with its centerpiece, the pepper-clove carnation, the flesh of its body, light and lively. I do wish I still smelled something like this in today's ether, as nowadays such a bouquet would be deemed too stuffy and austere, and certainly not sweet enough. I'd take an enchanted garden incarnate over a walking snack any day. Cool green cutting through creamy, canorous florals, woods and spices, this atmosphere grows into a softer, elegant powder over time. It recalls one of my mother's favorites when I was younger, Windsong, and naturally that brings forth fond memories; it would be worth comparing the two. This reminds me of innocence and wonder, nurturing and care. I suppose that can't be a bad thing at all, especially when the drudgery of adulthood often leaves little room to be inspired. Color me inspired by one of the least likely of classic perfumes.

An enigmatic and alluring composition, don't think an unfamiliar nose could appreciate the scent but they would certainly like it because it's quite pleasing (at least it's on me), I'm unable to put my finger on this fragrance's character; a woman with grace (so many women), but a man with a romantic mind and tender eyes could carry it so perfectly as well. One of those perfumes that needs to blend in with your soul rather than built you into an image of desire. For me it smells like an enormous botanical house (carnation, jasmine, rose and gardenia are the strong flower fragments in it) with plum trees and a fountain bubbling with white soap in the middle of it, I also get a hint of bitter rose tea somewhere as well, the opening is winey on me but the dry-down magnificent. Certainly not an easy scent and strangely men never compliment me when I'm wearing this, but women always fell in love with the scent and ask me what I'm wearing.

Just got my order of L’air du temps EDP. I am mainly picking up on carnation and clove sprinkled with powder. The EDP is deeper and stronger than the EDT...the carnation is dense and almost velvety. The clove is sweet and gentle not sharp. I have never had access to the vintage L’air du temps so I am only comparing the current EDP to the current EDT. I remember the 2 times I tested the EDT that while the scent is beautiful it faded rather quickly. While there is substance to the EDP that the EDT lacks it is not a sillage monster like YSL’s Opium or Mugler’s Angel. I am happy with my purchase as I love this scent and would steer towards the EDP over the EDT any day 💜 I sprayed 1 spray on my wrist 1 hour ago and 1 spray on my neck and I can still smell it around me. I usually spray more daily but this time I am trying to see how much projection I get from little effort 😀

I always have a bottle of this in my collection. I wear it very infrequently now, but carnation has been a favorite flower scent for me since I was a teenager, and L’air du Temps is a carnation lover’s dream. I used to wear it year round. While that flower really dominates, there is a lot more than that going on here. This perfume is so fresh and alive in the opening with the flowers and rosemary (another favorite note), which can smell medicinal but does not here, and then the spices and amber warm up to blend with the spicy carnation. Cedar and sandalwood are just beautiful with the powdery drydown. It’s perfect in winter with the spiciness and warm amber, but also perfect in summer when the flowers just shine. A complex, strong, beautiful scent from another era - just my type of perfume, definitely not suited to current tastes, but a classic nevertheless.

This is my mum’s favourite perfume so it has a special place in my heart: warm, comforting. It is funny to read from previous comments that this is their mum’s too; the proof that this beautiful masterpiece has been owned by many mums over 2 or 3 generations. So it can’t be bad. I decided to buy it and check if it was suitable for a guy, as it is a very affordable. I can say that it can. For me it is like Miss Dior Originale or Mitsouko: a soft powdery floral that is subtle and discreet but you can still feel it’s presence on you. Nothing to do with those skanky juices that are now produced that all smell the same. You would wear this when you want to feel comfy, reassured and protected (mum’s presence?...). The slightly unpleasant thing with LDT is that Nina Ricci perfumes is now owned by Coty and it is made in Spain, not in France.

Review for the vintage formulation: L'Air du Temps 🕊️ At first Impression, I didn't find any particularly significant changes. While pure perfume has a rich and complex olfactory structure. The olfactive difference I perceive in the EDT is a brighter opening of aldehydes and “citrus.” The spicy carnation and iris powder are accentuated, acquiring even more prominence and definition. The fragrance develops slowly, with a tactile softness and emotional depth. It smells so romantic, it’s as if the dust of carnations and roses were stirred by the fluttering of doves taking flight. Its evolution is intimate, almost ceremonial. It is angelic tenderness made perfume. 🕊️ 🕊️Lalique bottle: (1970/80) EDT 50ml

Gorgeous carnation powder and spices! An absolute love for me! I prefer the modern EDT as it’s lighter and more carnation focused than the EDP on my skin. This smells like powder and the most beautiful sweet carnations. It’s a vintage classic and smells like it. She doesn’t pretend to be something she’s not. It does lean soapy at times, but in an elegant and clean way. LdT is iconic for a reason. I know this is cliché, but my first interest in LdT was from The Silence of the Lambs reference. This smells like warmth and comfort. The modern formulation is made in Spain, and I find the quality superb. It’s still a stunner!

I wore this in the late 80's and early '90's as a teen and young adult. I felt like I had died and gone to floral heaven. This iconic perfume has it's own personality and I feel it needs a more personal woman's name... Felicity, Leticia ... Clarice (?) I slowly discontinued it when a boy I was intrigued with called it an old lady perfume. The boy is long gone and my L'air du Temps is now part of a collection that is so much wider in scope than in my youth. Here's to a little experience and a long enough life y'all. The fact that it only scores a 3.7 in this group just validates my disregard for contemporary tastes.

I got the EDT because I saw people saying it was more carnation-forward and I'm so glad I did! I was a huge fan of Lush's discontinued Potion body lotion and this reminds me strongly of being all cozy in my warm fluffy robe after a shower with those soapy aldehydes. I find it more linear than a lot of other vintage fragrances, but not in a bad way! I was looking for a carnation bomb and I got it. The bottle is obviously iconic and looks so pretty with my other vintage bottles, and while I wish the cap was glass, it's probably better that it isn't. I'm clumsy and would 100% break it within minutes of getting it.

Initial spray and I thought: this is why I was hesitant to get this, overwhelmingly dated overdose of aldehydes and white flowers, carnations and other heavy hitters, and I thought, oh well, you live and learn. Half an hour later I kept getting whiffs of this beautiful warm soft spicy floral and then realized that it was the fragrance I'd just written off as too heavy and dated for me. You really DO live and learn. I love the mid to late drydown enough to say I love this perfume. Only the initial five minutes were not great but I feel that was a small price to pay for the later delight.

It's quite an honor to have this in my collection, the cap is the best thing ever, it's the typical case of real, raw and living history in art. It makes me emotional when I think of the occasion when it has been thrown into the market of perfumes. The scent itself is really beautiful as well. Really vintage smelling but I don't find it an old lady scent (but I like them as well for some reason), it's a really rich flowery warm-spicy smell for early spring. A true classic. If you don't like aldehydes and carnation, you might want to skip it.

I adore l'air du temps, it's a beautiful aldehydic floral. Despite it containing a strong note of aldehydes, it can never be mistaken for any of the other greats, no.5, Rive Gauche or Calandre. It is warm and powdery, there is an element of soft spice to it, but it's the carnation note that dominates, giving it the powdery presence. Longevity and projection are both very good, it stays on the skin well, and develops beautifully. The bottle is very pretty, I think they've managed to retain the quality of this one over the years. A classic.

One of those WONDERFUL old perfumes that are so masterfully blended that even an amateur nose like mine can catch many if not most of the notes. I suspect a superior nose could smell them all. Why don't we have perfumes like this anymore? Some only have three notes. Don't get me wrong, I love solos even. But they've got to have a base that makes them last, like this one and Evyan's Most Precious. Light spring and summer fragrances with complication and depth, that's what I want. And oh how I wish they could really synthesize musk oil.

Remember when perfume smelled like flowers and woods and spices instead of fruit and candy and cupcakes? This is a classic in every sense of the word. Elegant and complicated and straight-forward. A mature version of Heaven Sent from Junior High in the 70's... Or like my husband said, "back when perfumes smelled like French hookers not French pastries..." I am turning into one of those old ladies who laments over what the kids today are coming to. Sorry but they just do NOT have a friggin clue what real perfume smelled like.

A classic vintage beauty..full of powdery spring yellow florals of sunshine in a bottle with aldehydes, so there is a soapiness to it but it's done right. Definitely ylang ylang and carnation. From a different time that's special. The bottles are gorgeous. If you get the extrait it's a sweeter, less powdery, more liquified version of it in it's purest form that's the best. But I equally still love the edp. If you love everything vintage like Chanel No 5 or 90's yellow florals with powder you willl love this.

A while ago I got Air du temps from Ricci and did not think I would really love it. I took it just for a try and wore it almost every day during quite a while. Later it wasn ́t sold anymore. What I enjoyed was the freshness so different from many heavy perfumes one can smell in an office. A light but good way and it stayed on my skin. Very feminine. Calm but not invisible. So, it is a great memory. The Neroli, the Violets and the Jasmine were extraordinary.

I hate to say "favorite"....but this is one of my favorites. It is warm and spicy, but at the same time there are light breezy notes. It has exactly the right balance of carnation, clove, bergamot, rosewood...with florals, aldehydes......a hint of sandalwood and vetiver (two favorites) and NOT TOO MUCH AMBER (I don't care for "sweet"). On my skin, it is perfect. I also like Nina Ricci Farouche....but this one.....yes!

I had a full bottle of the modern version of this and wasn't too impressed. It was very light and a bit too floral, compared to what I expect. I had a vintage miniature of it, however, that is absolutely amazing. You don't need much and the spiciness is there, but the floral aspect is also. Carnation, cloves, iris and violets. Kind of long lasting, especially considering that all I've applied is a single drop.

I'm so glad I took a chance and blind bought L'Air du Temps based on Fragrantica reviews and my passion for unsung Proper Perfume heroes of the past. This is a clean, powdery, soapy smell. It reminds me very much of Mitsouko, but less spicy. In fact it smells like original Dove soap, which I love. It dries down beautifully. If you like No. 5, Arpege, Mitsouko I would recommend L'Air du Temps.

I have worn this fragrance for decades. Have always loved. Sweet and fresh and youthful, to me. May be old school to others. This one is a classy, classic. When I discovered L’ Air du Temps, it was still a pricey, department store only, purchase. Happily, the forward march of fragrances, forced it to more affordable pastures. One of the many midcentury masterpieces.

Timeless, solid yet transparent, rich yet light, so approachable and comforting. It's a time machine, one of those fragrances that will take you to the past immediately after the first sniff. An old-fangled gem. It smells soapy, spicy, supported by diverse floral notes, and warmed by amber and benzoin. The drydown is woody, peachy, a bit powdery, and still soapy.

It's like a piece of history in a bottle, it's vintage, it's classy, it's very heavy on the aldehydes, but it still works, and still has a relevance. It's very smooth and soapy, but floral, powdery and spicy too, it's very recognisable. Immensely feminine, but somehow reassuring and comforting. The bottle remains a work of art, it's beautiful and truly iconic.

I don't really have a strong opinion on the scent on it's own. When I first smelled it, it smelled like a granny perfume. Then my mom told me that it used to be my grandmother's, who had a stroke the same day i was born and was left in more or less a vegetal state. Now, when i smell it, i feel a closeness i wasn't ever able to grow with my nana<3

Carnations with a little bit of powder. Reminds me of a chilly spring day in a bottle. I get zero warmth - just a reminder of the scent of flowers on a cool April breeze - but it’s still welcoming and comforting. This one gets put away from June - February (besides the occasional spritz before bed), but shines throughout March - early May.

The smell of purity. A virgin bride dressed in the most pristine, crisp satin dress, her face covered with a nylon veil. The cleanest, soapiest, purest most innocent smell i’ve come across yet. Extremely innocent and clean. Naive, even. This is the scent i’m going to wear when i get married, for sure.

I first fell in love with this perfume when I was a little girl - my mom had it, and it was magical compared to the Soviet perfumes made by Novaya Zarya. Years went by, I used various perfumes. Recently I felt nostalgic and purchased this one. This fragrance is simply timeless! Love every bit of it!

The carnation and clove are front and centre. Definitely old-fashioned but very lovely, to my 60something nose anyway. Not all that great for youngsters I suspect: no trace of sweetness in it. I am on my third bottle but don't wear it much now as my husband (unusually for him) really dislikes it.

I wore this from the 1970s through the 1990s and it was beautiful. I’d refill my white canister which had either edc or edt versions, and it lasted forever. I received so many compliments. I only buy the edp version to get more longevity. Just wish it smelled the same as years gone by.

This one has snuck up on me. Beautiful whiffs of carnation flower and something creamy like sandalwood all throughout the day without being up in your face fragrance. I'm usually sensitive to perfumes with jasmine and musc notes, but this one doesn't bother me. Current edt

My mother wears this and I totally love this. It surely does smell like old lady but I personally prefer this so much more than other perfumes with aldehydes. For me this is a incense perfume. If you’ve been to a Orthodox Church you probably know what I mean. -M206

An absolute masterpiece. Spicy carnation over a stunning white floral. I associate it with my fragrance loving 80 year old mother who has the absolute best taste in perfume of anyone I know. It's a classic for a reason and I will cry if it's ever discontinued.

The iconic bottle! The bottle men would bring home to their girls from war. The scent surprised me. It is not heavy or too dated. It does have that distinct aldehyde and carnations smell of the time but it’s still airy and sparkling. Truly beautiful

Too complicated to even attempt to describe ; no description would do it justice. I have no words except "Sublime!"...just sublime! You have to sample it for yourself to experience the magic.

My first perfume, given to me by my lovely mother when I turned 13. I loved it then and love it now. It's a timeless, ageless classic. Light and floral with depth and gentle spices.

L'air du temps was offered as a birthday gift to me 15 years ago. I still wear and love it. It's a truly timeless scent based on a spicy carnation.
