Memoire D'homme

When I heard this had roots in antiquity (and posted below) I knew it was something I HAD to have. My search for this discontinued wonder ended when I found it on a discount site, last year, for under fifty US dollars NIB. What a find!! Memory of a Man is something that I find myself reaching for more and more. Nina Ricci has always (for the most part) made really great fragrances. This is no exception. It was created and released after the formation of the IFRA, but before they began seriously started meddling with formulae. It is no Phileas, true; but what it IS is a more modern male scent that retains an old world charm and a sexy sophistication that does NOT smell like oakmoss and musk only. The opening accord of pomelo (a rather large and juicy red fleshed grapefruit) and licorice leaves is bright and clean with an almost mouthwatering spicy sweetness. These are balanced in such a way as to let the citrus sparkle, but also let the licorice add its yummy dark vibe to the fragrance. The heart is spicy, for sure, as dry smooth nutmeg, with its warmth and bitter sweetness, merges with a warm yet juicy ginger. A true wonder of fresh spiciness and soft masculinity; despite the few notes it contains MdH radiates much more. From the way it develops on my skin, I would have expected some sort of greens or herbs in the heart; though I imagine that is just the balsamic resins and blue cedar peeking through, hinting at the ancient and divinely constructed dry down. Opoponax is a dry and heavenly smelling incense resin, burned before Christ walked the Earth to please the nose of the Gods, and it's here in all its splendor. Blended seamlessly with golden amber, sharp myrrh and a slightly animalic musk, this accord floats through the air like a magical spell. Though it is enchantingly seductive and utterly intoxicating on its own, the perfumers here blended it with a grassy, lightly smoky vetiver and the wonderfully soft scent of blue cedar. With no flowers, no sweet melon accords and no frills, this is utterly masculine; yet forgoes the usual "brutish" notes of leather/birch, patchouli and sandalwood but still remains very oriental and very suave. This fragrance is based on something ancient and powerful; however, it does not smell dated and shows that even in this modern age we can still wear something timeless and wonderful...without smelling stuffy or "old". Rooted in the Old Testament times but wearable by a man in the 21st century, this has that old soul feel in a new and modern framework. Memoire d'Homme is hauntingly enticing and sexy and worth seeking out...at any price. Sillage: very good Longevity: great Overall: 4.75/5 I continue to ponder why companies discontinue such beautiful perfumes. For whatever reason, this must not have sold all that well. I count myself among the lucky ones who own a bottle and cherish it like a precious relic from a bygone era. The was (if I am not mistaken) the last male scent Nina Ricci released to date, and for that I am very sad...but also relieved that THIS is the gorgeous swan song of her male line, and it did not devolve into "Aqua" this and "Sport" that. MdH remains (and always will be) a heavenly creation to me and will continue to be the source of much pleasure. If you like clean woody and resinous scents with spiciness that last and exude class, do yourself a favor. Get this while you can...before it ends up buried by the sands of time, or costs a King's ransom.

Gipsy parfumista, talking about good deals? I just got this rare perfume for 18 Euros! And in addition, I got Hugo Boss Dark blue for a 15 euros from a same guy - both pucker and original. When you're lucky, you're lucky... Anyway, this is a great summer scent. It starts with juicy citrusy opening, but you can also immediately smell a sharp spicy note of nutmeg. With ginger added, it is a true "sour" explosion. But only in the beginning.Several minutes after applying it reminds me of Trussardi python very much (as well as when I dont apply it but just smell it from the bottle), but these two scents go their separate ways some 20 minutes later, and every similarity then is gone. It quickly settles into warm and gentle scent, with licorice and amber kicking in. Nutmeg will stay for on and on and will note fade away as grapefruit will. Longevity and projection are good, better than most summer scents I've tested. The heart of the fragrance is pretty linear, and it is quite sweet; to me almost unisex. The bottle is simply magnificient - classic and elegant, violet shaded from the back and amber shaded from the front (these colours are not matching the scent though, since one would expect these colours in "heavier" wintery scents). I like the on off feature, without conventional cap. But the fact it is very hard to find due to it being discountinued is not simply enough to say it is a masterpiece. It is very pleasant to wear for sure, but not very unique, since the drydown is quite common and not very original. Everyone who smelled it said the same things: at first delighted with its freshness and spicy character, then later everbody said: "Hey it reminds me of something I smelled earlier, I just can not remember what". To me, it lacks masculinity in it's heart. Still will wear this in summer with great pleasure. This will do fine both on summer days and nights, believe me. And yeah, just for bragging to say it again - I got it for 18 Euros (100ml bottle) :D.

Memoire d'Homme opens with the smell of cutting into the thick pith of a pomelo. For those who aren't familiar, a pomelo is a species of citrus with an almost intimidating size, but with a delicious aroma and flavor. Grapefruits are actually the result of crossing a sweet orange with a pomelo, in fact. This is accompanied not long after by a licorice accord that is chewy, rooty, somewhat bitter, and as expected, anisic, and this envelops the whole composition as nutmeg and other spices support this near 'five flavors" affair—sweet, sour, salty, bitter, and umami. The feel is decidedly autumnal and melancholic, a wear for a mood, as it grows warmer and more resinous over its development. There's a bit of this sarsparilla health tonic loveliness further into the heart, perhaps courtesy to some myrrh merging with the licorice accord, I am also reminded of aperitifs after a meal, opening up a book, and getting lost in its pages on a chilly evening. In its dry down, Memoire grows woodier and drier, with vetiver picking up where the pomelo left off earlier in the development. It's an impressive designer release that apparently saw no commercial success, hence its discontinuation some time ago. I'd recommend picking it up if you can find it at a reasonable price.

memoire d'homme is a great edt, very unique and daring. it's an interesting and resinous blend of nutmeg, amber, cedar and vetiver. the licorice gives a strange and unpredictable twist to it. that's why this scent is not so easy to wear. absolutely not for everyone, it's difficult to say in which situation u can use it because it's not a safe choice. for me it's an intimistic, artistic and daring scent but i wear it quite rarely. so the versatility is the major issue of memoire d'homme. the best seasons are fall and winter, this fragrance give to me a picture of a rainy day in the city, when u are all alone and go to a bookstore. performance average. for 28 and up. try before buy it. un profumo diverso, non facile da apprezzare. provatelo prima di comprarlo. scent-8,5 long-7 sillage-7 versatility-6,5 bottle-8 uniqueness-9 compliment factor-6,5 my vote-8 in one word- loneliness( in an artistic way..)

💗 Memoire D'homme Nina Ricci (sadly discontinued) is a warm alluring spicy fragrance with a beautiful citrusy opening and an ambery background.. gorgeous combination from the opening to the light delicate alluring dry-down... it doesn’t change much, it's almost a linear fragrance like most fragrances released in the early 2000 era but I was fine with it because the blend was soo good you won't like it to change or to go in a different direction after the opening... its perfect as it is ! I bought Memoire many times for years it was always on my shelf...I stopped buying it 10 years ago.. I miss it especially in cold weather during freezing early mornings.. or chilling nights of fall... I wish I can find something similar... Memoire D'homme feels expensive although the price was around $30 1000000000/10 unique!

اسم على مسمى لا ينسى ابدا له حنين غريب بعد فترة طويلة اشتقت له وبحثت عنه حتى وجدته واحتضنته اكثر واكثر وندمت اني لم استخدمه سوى مرة واحدة فقط في واحد ة من اجمل اللحظات كلما استحضرتها وجدتها ناقصة هناك شي مفقود استحضرت المكان والزمان واللحظات ولكن لم استحضر تلك الرائحة والتي عدت لها مرة اخرى وذهلت من شدة جمالها وروعتها عطر ساحر بكل المقاييس غريب وعجيب يضاهي اشهر العطور ويقارعها ايضا عطر محبب للنفس ولا ينفر منه احد ولعل رائحة عرق السوس اعطته ذلك الطابع المميز عطر ماستر بيس بالنسبة لي شخصيا وقد حصلت منه على نسخة وذلك من حسن الحظ ومازلت ابحث عن اخرى نصيحة لكل محبين ان العطور ان وجده امامه لا يتردد قط في شرائه

Beautiful, refined, manly. Great blend of freshness & spice. Brown as a colour doest seem right for this juice. The initial start somehow reminded me of Versace Blue Jeans (which is not bad) but it grows very quickly from that. A certain mysterious vibe surrounds you while wearing it. The freshness stays on but pairing with the spice it makes this developing a stand alone personality. Fresh while sour, bitter and nicely spicy. As I love all of these aspects I appreciate MDH to the utmost! Another perfection by my favourite nose, Christine Nagel!

According to the PR the base of this fragrance is "opoline" an accord the parfumer traced through antiquity back to Biblical times; supposedly Solomon used this balm to seduce the Queen of Sheba, (opoline contains: opoponax resin blended with myrrh, amber and musks)and it is truly rich and elegant. This frag also contains: pomelo, ginger, nutmeg, liquorice leaves, citron wood, bleu cedar and vetiver sap. This one is a must-have if you like well-blended, sexy, sweet resin based scents...another discontinued Classic.

I am revisiting this one, it is quite original in that it is not a kind of composition easily found in others or others that are reminiscent of it. It is a bitter scent, albeit the citric opening notes that are very bright, maybe because of the ginger; however in seconds these notes are replaced by flowery accords taken over by the licorice. Later on I sense a powdery feeling, more subdued, kind of balmy but still bright, the ginger must be lingering on. Nice one...

People mention smokey frags a lot, they should really check out ones like this. Woody, smokey, leather with quite a sharp blast of grapefruit, I used to love this stuff but found towards the end of the day it was driving my nose a little insane. Its cheap and synthetic but a great great masculine smell and so much better than a lot of the tat on the market at the moment.

The best fragrance for men. Period. Based only on notes you wouldn't guess it could smell so divine. It's a disgrace it was discontinued and now if you find it somewhere it costs like niche fragrances. Well, now it is a niche indeed. And "1 Million" by Paco Rabanne leans in this direction (especially the dry down). But this one is elegant and refined. Superb.

Nice juicy grapefruit and licorice opening with a spicy ginger and a woody background. Super fresh opening with sweet spices and dry woods. An overall citrus-spicy scent. Sometimes i love it, sometimes i don't care of it. It's a fairly unique scent with good longevity, tho. Not great or must-have but it's really nice for the spring and fall.

Sadly discontinued among others by Nina ricci🤔 go and ask why? Puig the new owner of Nina Ricci parfum must release again this gem I really miss this fragrance! The last male fragrance by Nina Ricci💝!

One of the best thing that I've ever smelled. True Masterpiece. Really good quality, expensive kinda smell. Buy it till you can. I'm going to...all that i find. 12 hrs and still projects..

I had this and used it for years daily before it ran out of production. What a waste

Not the rule, but when you see a house with a lot of perfumes and only the very few are masculine (at least marketed at) then you get the impression that some real effort focus and time went down to create theses special ones. The one I owned for quite some time and really liked was Memoire d'Homme. Upon spraying you get the feeling that this is your typical men's cologne but it is not! You get a citrusy initial bang taking up almost the entire frame, but some nutmeg, ginger and definitely licorice are photobombing in the background. The licorice... I got really acquainted with this note thanks to my partner's black soft licorice caramels she was stuffing my mouth with in the winter. In this composition the licorice is done right with a balanced feel to it thanks to grapefruit in the beginning and then the nutmeg. The ginger has a sparkling role keeping the structure somehow fresh. And then there is the amazing woody semi sweet drydown that keeps going for hours on skin, not to mention its persistence on clothes. For me this is where this scent really shines. Like staring down at a pine(?) forest from a higher point with the traces of a licorice caramel you were torturing in your mouth to melt for 10 minutes. Great stuff people. I am keeping the "oh my god!! why did you discontinue such a wonderful underatted superfantastic scent?!?!?" for some other time or scent... This is funny, over at basenotes.net they are just beating down on this scent while here it gets great reviews. It's also funny how people can get so many different notes out of one scent especially when some of those mentioned notes are not listed anywhere. Upon first application I get a great boozy and smokey whiff. After a while I'm also reminded, distantly, of a root beer-like smell. This is not a dark cologne or deep, it seems airy but somehow keeps a serious or formal vibe to it. I can't really make out licorice, at least outright, I guess it mixes in enough to keep you wondering. Some mention woods, that's something else I cannot say stands up out in the foreground. Unfortunately this great scent does not stay strong and the projection falls off after a couple of hours, I'm glad I have it though. If you have the kind of skin or chemistry with fragrances that soaks them up you might find yourself bathing in it to make an impression or project.

Memoire D'Homme is a fragrance that has its own peculiarities, is that hint of ancient and profound that has spanned the centuries up to we.The top notes of grapefruit and licorice are evolve in all their freshness, leaving space in the heart ginger and nutmeg, then fade, but several hours after the final nell'apoteosis with vetiver and amber. But the most striking ingredient remains opoponax, I think a resin that has spanned the centuries to us, in fact, along with myrrh was very used even in the days of King Solomon, which they use to seduce the Queen of Sheba. What can I say? a mythical fragrance. +10
