TIERRA MAYA

You're sitting with your father a few days after the funeral, looking through old photos. You're familiar with most of these, but then one falls out from the plastic page you've never seen before. There she is, long tanned limbs you've never seen past the knee; a worn t shirt and a bikini bottom at the beach. The photo is slightly blurry (she's joyfully galloping in the sand, fending off the camera that still captures her, though at a haphazard angle). Her curled, dark hair, wet in places, framing her unlined face and clear eyes that squint in the sun, and with laughter. You've never seen your mother look so free, so alive. She's always been lovely and kind, but never so beautiful and free. Who was this girl you will never know, who smiles like you? What happened between then and when you knew her, warm but with her gaze always clouded with worry? You take a sip of your tea, well-- her tea, there's still a box in the cupboard. "Can I take this one?" you ask your father. "No," he says, "this one's my favorite." Edit: my wife says this review gives the impression that this smell is beachy, which it assuredly is not. Though as Deja's review states below (and I agree), it gives "warm sunshine on sweet skin in summer afternoons." It is cinnamony and dusty, with a thread of rose, which made me think of the memory of a beautiful, kind mother.

A beautifully simple composition that’s cardamom forward and a spiced scent that actually works wonderfully in warm weather. This opens with a gorgeous blend of a warm and sweet cinnamon, spiced and earthy cardamom, and a sweetly creamy peru basalm. There’s vanillic notes that swirl around in the heart, blended with warm spices, it feels like the warm sunshine on sweet skin in summer afternoons. The rose here is virtually undetectable but I do feel like it offers a bit of freshness to cut into the warmth and sweetness because it never feels cloying or overwhelming. This works best on warm skin and the scent really creates such a comforting scent bubble that’s equally sweet, spiced, earthy, and light. Dry down is much sweeter and smooth with less heavy handed spice and a hint of dry woods.

This scent, just like this Brand itself, is phenomenal! I am definitively not one to like cinnamon in perfumes- didn’t like it in Oajan- but this opened me up to this note, it’s cinnamonly and sweet but it’s also somewhat balsamic and rosy, which was my favorite part and my only complaint, I just wish it was more rose forward, it would’ve taken the edge off of sweet honeyed cinnamon and helped balance things out. I said before that I am not the biggest fan of cinnamon, and that is most due to Oajan, in there it’s just way too strong, syrupy and sweet that it’s cloying and gives me a headache, may be due to its potency or due to the addition of honey which is another note that is very intense, but I don’t get much of that here

I think this is my best discovery of 2025. Tierra Maya is really something special. This house uses all natural ingredients and I can really tell while sniffing this (in the best way possible). It smells so pure, almost raw, like I'm smelling some magical potion that happens to be naturally occurring in nature. The rose, cardamom, and cinnamon are front and center, especially the cardamom, so it might not be suited for people who have an issue with that spice. It's reminiscent of Bouquet Ideale and Babylon, but in a more loose interpretation; Tierra Maya isn't by any means a gourmand fragrance. It just has that general 'vibe'. This is a special one, I recommend you get your nose on it.

So glad to have this in my collection. Date night, fall and winter approved. If I could compare it to anything, it would be a smoother, more lively, less musky Musc Ravageur by Frederick Malle in the opening because of the cinnamon and cardamom, but only for a few seconds. They don't smell alike at all but that's a decent point of reference. Sweet and unisex maybe leaning slightly feminine but men can definitely pull it off. I get great performance out of it. 10/10 for me.

Just gorgeous. As someone already pointed out - it is not a new scent profile, it is just a great quality perfume. It's cinnamon and balsam have a very natural yet smooth feel. All ingredients come together so well. It is my favourite winter/autumn scent. Its quality is unmatched. While there are similar scents out there - this one smells truly natural. I receive complements every time I wear it.

I sniffed this last week at Jovoy... And I now hate myself because I was trying to reduce my wishlist ahah. This is so balmy and comforting but also very slightly fresh in the opening. I blame cardamom and cinnamon for drawing me to this yet again... Keep it away from me or I will buy everything. 😂 Edit 06/27/25: Oops... I bought it. 😬

Tierra Maya is reminiscent of my favorite professional salon shampoo in its opening. The modestly rose fragrance blends well with the cardamom in the dry down. This is definitely a personal scent with minimum sillage. As the fragrance develops, my nose finally detects a bit of cinnamon at the very end. So disappointed that this beautiful fragrance doesn't last long on my skin.

Tres belle qualité de matière première, c'est indéniable et il faut le souligner. Rien n'est désagréable, le parfum est lisse , soyeux , doux. Absolument rien de synthétique, et pour cela Bravo 👍🏼 Le parfum évoque Sugar leather de Une nuit nomade , au point qu'avoir les deux serait redondant. De la canelle sucré , confituré , avec un soupçon de cardamome sur un fond boisé léger. C'est doux et très beau malheureusement le point faible du parfum sont ses performances qui sont catastrophiques... Il devient un parfum de peau en moin d'1h ce qui est assez frustrant ...

smells like a rich arab auntie and those thick incense blocks, i’m unfamiliar with peru balsam but it’s the strongest note along with cardamom and rose. a little too headache inducing for me

It smells good for one reason : it is very close to Ambre Narguilé from Hermes. Looks like a copy.

Well-blended and high quality, but this one is giving old lady vibes. Spice + rose, not for me.

The scent itself is not new, it smells like many other trendy fragrances out there. BUT what makes this different is the quality of each ingredients. The cinnamon texture is so photorealistic, dry, sweet and powdery. The cardamom is juicy and bursting with freshness. The peru balsam is pungent and potent. So even though the scent itself is very familiar, the ingredients truly shine and thats what makes this superior to the rest. Just goes to show; you don't have to keep creating a new scent, sometimes you just have to create a better one.
