Pontevecchio

Within the line of perfumes in the EDP concentration of this House, called Supreme Fragrances (Fragranza Suprema), was released a pair of fragrances called Pontevecchio. The name means Old Bridge and it is an arched medieval bridge over the Arno River, in Florence. It is believed to have been built even in ancient Rome and was originally all wood. It was destroyed by flood in 1333 and rebuilt in 1345. Became famous throughout the world for having thousands of padlocks on its extension, as a symbol of eternal love. Couples locked the padlocks and threw the keys into the river, believing that they would be so forever linked. Since a few years back, due to the high cost of maintenance, anyone caught putting a padlock must pay a fine of 50 euros. I told the inspiration, let’s talk about the fragrance. Pontevecchio for Men contains notes of bergamot, Mandarin orange, incense, and aromatic notes in the output; heart notes of rosewood, geranium, cedarwood, ylang-ylang, jasmine, rose, and Iris Florentina; at the base, patchouli, sandalwood, vetiver, and musk. The result is a green bomb, full of woody nuances, that has both projection and lasting power above expectations. You can notice very well the incense, in addition to the floral accord. The geranium exudes a lot and the base is spectacular, with a beautiful accord of sandalwood. Pontevecchio for Men is an elegant and refined scent for lovers of old-school style. For those looking for references, reminded me quite the scent aroma of Jaguar for Men, but this Italian version can be even more natural and powerful. When the House says it's a Supreme Fragrance, it’s not a joke. And there's still a stronger version, called Colonia Maxima.

This is the first fragrance which got me into niche perfumery. I mean it is so sophisticated and underrated! Super elegant carnation and vetiver bomb. I feel there are two layers, a fresh one from bergamot and incense and a second one creamy sandalwood and ambery, they are kept perfectly balanced and parallel by the carnation and vetiver. I found very few fragrances who can compete with this incredibly discrete and noble scent. It is very very woody but somehow even metallic at some point. This duality between natural and artificial creates this sort of fresh but not citrusy or floral fragrance. Again magic happens when a perfume is done the right way: it smells of something you cant quite name, but you know it, and there's no way to districate the notes. Wonderful! please give it a chance! Not very unisex to me, it goes rather masculine. But if you dont want to go on tobacco or ambroxan leaning scents and still want to feel virile, thats for you!

I didn't expect too much from fresh or sharp woody fragrance which is usually not my cup of tea - this is what I found on many webpages. Fortunately I got wonderful herbal flowery cologne composed of most precious ingredients... very delicate and warm. It very very Italian = wonderful and most distinctive ... Noble this best word to describe its beauty. The style is same as herbal woody Amouages but not so strong. It has little projection but lives for long time as a skin scent. It can be easily use by noble gentleman or the business people running for money, and creative dreamers as well. I can imagine it as romantic evening scent that is perfect for lovers. I don't know why but when I smell it I have in my mind warm night in Florence... Walking lazy on small, narrow streets with best friends. This is exactly what this fragrance was created for.

#958 in my "Tour de Fragrance" This is another Nobile 1942 scent that will be a bottle buy for me. I really love this combination of notes. It's fresh, likeable, kind of a woody freshie that works for me in way that scents like Invictus don't because the incense/iris combo is so attractive to me. EDP performance. Not great, not bad, reasonable for the price. Car pool, elevator and small office safe. I think it's office appropriate, but also fine for date night, even formal events, though Dior Eau Sauvage Parfum will always be my go to for things like the Duke Chamber Orchestra where seating is tight and projecting incense fragrances might not be appreciated. Leans masculine. I call it a safe blind buy.

This is great. I bring this out every spring, it's my favourite vetiver fragrance and the geranium is the perfect accompaniment. I love wearing this when the sun shines.

Very nice masculine iris fragrance. It's fresh, summery and classy. Another Nobile '42 that i like a lot! 89

This opens citrusy with mandarin and bergamot in the forehead, with memories of the late 80s, in an expensive version of Axe, Malizia and Co. Soon afterwards a crunchy vetiver, cedar, clean patch, iris, hot ylang, jasmin also make its way. ..All on a clean, tidy and starched musky base that echoes irons. I don't get much of the sweetness of rosewood but a little more bitterness of geranium which holds my attention. Rather natural, harmless, overly simple, heard elsewhere but, .... honest. More suitable during the day. Good longevity. Generic.

This and Nobile's Fougere are my fav scents at the moment. Just loveely fougere with a littlee salty sweetness, lots of class and naturally compatible with my skin. SO VERY GOOD.

A clean and soapy bergamot opening into slightly balsamic-floral territory. Nice masculine scent. 8.0/10

Citruses with incense, musk and some wood. Feels sophisticated and expensive.

The incense note is not regal in stature...it comes across as pure tobacco of the cigarette accord (the kind that lingers on the clothes of a smoker) which I find to be the foremost note in the composition together with a citrus (that to me most resembles lemon) along with the cedarwood and the geranium. In the middle there are a few florals fighting for center stage making the middle notes a bit confusing. The musk backs it up with a sweaty slightly metallic tinge. I'm not a fan but I can see how this would be nice on a man. Sillage is light. After about an hour it settles to soap.

Are we talking here about the same fragrance? I don't get it, because 99% of the reviews seem to be out of orbit and have no relation with what Ponte Vecchio Nobile 1942 for men smells like. First,is not an oakmoss, musky old fashion Fougere. Ponte Vecchio Nobile 1942 for men is an aromatic basil and tobacco fragrance from beginning to the end without top and middle notes, just one blend,one unity:is crisp and sweet, with a laundry accord given by the mango peel and an aromatic sweet note given by the basil, both notes blended with the tobacco makes it very masculine and uplifting, elevating; inspiring. The elegance and magnetism of Ponte Vecchio Nobile 1942 for men makes it a gem for any perfume lover and in my opinion and it doesn't smell like any other tobacco fragrances who are always blended with vanilla. PVN 1492 it’s probably the best tobacco scent evermade on the niche market, the perfect scent for a gentleman but still can be wear by anyone at any time. Projection and longevity are spot on. The perfect morning scent, addictive, dimensional, aural. Masterpiece, get it while you can

I adore this fragrance to no end. This fragrance was my introduction to the house of Nobile 1942. On my skin it opens up with citrus, mostly mandarin, then settles into a clean soapy floral scent that is slightly musky and woody. For me it’s Dolce Vita in a bottle. Elegant in a laid back Italian way. Most suitable for warm weather, but I find it so addicting I want to wear it all year round. It's summertime but not in a bright sunny manner rather summer evening or night. You are walking around Florence on a summer evening wearing a linen shirt top few buttons are unbuttoned. Once the sun has set and the sky has turned to hue of royal blue, you walk onto the Pontevecchio over the Arno River. As you stand on the bridge and stare out at the town you see the reflection of the warm amber street lights glistening over the water. Then you feel a gentle breeze blowing over the water carrying the fragrance of Iris’ of a nearby field.

I received a small sample of Nobile 1942 PONTEVECCHIO W from a generous fellow fragrance traveller, and without knowing anything about it, I initially detected citrus, followed by a dried grassy quality combined with a beautiful floral facet. I would never have guessed that this composition is intended for gents! Which is not to say that they would not appreciate such a wonderful, natural-smelling citrus-grassy-floral cologne, but I do think that it is absolutely a contender for women as well. Unfortunately, the longevity is not great, but I can say preliminarily, based on this short test, that PONTEVECCHIO W merits further investigation!

Nice, opens with a bit of a grandma vibe, settles into a lovely powdery musky iris with a a bit of piercing sharpness from the vetiver and bergamot (I guess). The scent profile is my favorite, I try plenty of iris scents, which means I rarely come across a unique iris scent. For the price, I would say other options would top this, if you consider the quality, performance, uniqueness, ..etc

A fresher, muskier, summer version of Helmut Lang's cult classic Cuiron which was copied by Illuminum's Piper Leather. If you're into the deep, dark, musky isobutyl quinoline leathers, give this one a shot. Worthy!
