Sandalo Nobile

Oh dear lord, this is gorgeous. Sandalo Nobile bursts out of the bottle, powdery and sweet. The fig here is creamy but still quite green; I get a sort of coconut feeling from it, somewhat like the fig in Womanity. Now - before anyone runs screaming into the hills - I am not suggesting for one minute that Sandalo Nobile is a clone or ANYTHING like Womanity - it's not. To me though, both perfumes have a hint of coconut when they reach their drydown. There's a slight hint of something almost metallic and petrochemical coming from this, which I know could make me queasy and headachey in some circumstances. It juuuust teeters on being a deal-breaker; I suspect this is coming from a combination of the saffron (which can be a problematic note for me) and benzoin. Fortunately the other notes pull in the opposite direction and force the errant ones to play nice, which is a relief. Definitely not recommended wear in hot and humid weather. The temperature has dropped here by over 10 degrees overnight and there's a refreshing breeze; it's still quite warm though and I think SN is better worn in a cooler climate. Test before purchase - Sandalo Nobile is NOT a safe blind buy. Sillage and longevity are both moderate. ETA. Please be warned; Sandalo Nobile is more tenacious than expected, so be careful when/how/where you spray it! I wore SN last Friday and got a little on my fingers, which then transferred to my phone and tablet. I could still smell the perfume distinctly on both several days later; in fact, the perfume was transferring BACK onto my fingers from my phone, so I was getting tantalising little whiffs of it every time I brought my fingers near my face. Edited again 18/9/18: I wore this for the first time in steaming hot July. It was a darn sight cooler today (18/19 degrees) and it did not smell nearly as good. I think - contrary to others' opinions - that this is best worn in hot weather.

I can only imagine it must be the 'Fig tree' note in here which makes Sandalo Nobile open so much like a fresh wonderful fruity smell, I can literally feel the fibrous innards as the juicy flesh is torn open. I think it's the most accurate and beautiful fig note I've ever smelled, it's also reminiscent of a real plum, not the jammy sweetness we think of as 'plum like' in perfumery, plum Japonais or CdG Floriental etc...this is a genuine green smell, more like that of Philosykos. Then proceedings start to get powdery, a lovely Iris note backed with creamy sandalwood but hints of the fig in there too. I think this fragrance has wonderfully complimentary ingredients but something doesn't quite ring true about it for me? I'm not sure if I think it's a bit too feminine for me or that it's just too clean, there's not enough dirt in here for my liking? Still a great fragrance if not just for that opening...not something I'd wear but totally worth checking out for sure. Update: 23/01/23 It's interesting when I look back on reviews like this, it's usually to say that I was wrong for being so down on a fragrance, but in this instance I'd say I don't really have the same enthusiasm I clearly had back in the mists of 2016. I still like the opening but it's kinda more of the coconut facet of fig leaf that I get rather than the lush greenery of fig flesh now. The body is a musky, creamy sandalwood which is very pleasant clearly well crafted but does little to excite me. So, My feelings have ended up being largely similar.

This is not synthetic or synthetic smell! This is super musky from cummin! Clean musky with soapiness toned all the way down. Non scented eXQUISite soap made of most expensive animal fat??? i imagined idk.. You spray too much of this you experience what some call synthetic smell -- what my nose read as CLEAN sparklieness. All you need is ONE spray or max two. 26AUG2024 Dry down smell like la religieuse serge lutens indolic lite jasmine smoke and civet. Clean polished smoke lite peppery soapy. Saffron is strong and floral. 20OCT2024 I googled fig tree smell, what i got... The bark has a subtle woody aroma with creamy, powdery, and musky overtones.

This is really nice. I got a sample because I own Santal Complet and was looking for a cheaper version to spray without feeling the money drain. They are very different. This is more fig tree smooth powdery woody. On me the fig wood note stands out. This is so lovely. Where Santal Complet is a sparkling yellow sandalwood this is a woody fig tree light green sandalwood. This is also very much more unisex. A great everyday fragrance.

Smooth, Lactic, Coconutty, dense fruity as expected with fig. Don't see some of these notes mentioned, but definitely get them. The sandalwood for all seasons, it is something to be compared with great sandalwoods. It beats a lot of them in price and quality. Great Value, If sandalwood is your thing then it deserves to be in your collection.

What a peculiar refreshing figgy sandal :-) it was quite a good idea to unite milky facet of the two ingredients, sandal and fig. It is also pretty green, but woody smooth as sandal should be (just wait a little). Not a killer, not at all oriental, a fresh air, such a calm cheerful scent :-)

A manly sandalwood fragrance, which a touch of spice and powderiness, very professional and elegant. People stating that it is like pickle juice, do not have clue about sandalwood

One of the best, if not the best, sandalwood-fig fragrances I've ever tried. Unisex. Very well blended and smooth. No note stands out in an offensive way to my nose.

The fig leaf opening has a coconut facet and, I don't know why, but it's also giving me a bubblegum reminescence. The sandalwood is the heart of the fragrance and a nice bridge between the fig leaf and the iris, not heavy at all, but kind of dry. Objectively the sandalwood and coconut get along really well in this perfume. I think that the coconut note adds freshness and makes the wood less dry. Unfortunately I am very picky about coconut in perfumes and this particular note used in Sandalo Nobile is not to my liking. The iris is my favorite part of the fragrance, it's shiny and luminous. I wonder if there is white musk in there, not in high quantities, but just enough to make the iris sparkles. The flower shines even more and gets sweeter on the drydown. In my opinion, this is the fragrance that should have been called Bois d'Argent, as when I smell it I picture a greyish bark with a soft shimmery hue, and covered with drops of coconut milk.

Sandalo Nobile is an odd yet pleasant fragrance. Opening with a blast of light, airy Iris and green fig tree, you’re initially greeted by what seems to be a rather fresh, clean and inoffensive perfume. A creamy, powdery sandalwood sets in as it develops on the skin which I must admit is addictive and compliments the Iris very well. There’s a whisper of sweetness coming from the saffron and benzoin however this is very subtle. Furthermore, I find the cumin listed is entirely undetectable - which I think is a good thing in all honesty. As it settles the green fig tree dwindles and the sandalwood becomes much drier. The sweetness becomes slightly more prominent which compliments the woods nicely. This is a very pleasant, mass appealing sandalwood with good quality of ingredients, but I find it lacks character and any memorable qualities unfortunately.

This is a seamless sandalwood-fig accord ordained with saffron pinches, tasty cumin in a modern iris coat balanced by balsamic peppery resins; resulting in lactonic beauty, that initially arrives with a sudden heel and quickly layers as a sexy hush puff of fruity vogue, one that can be likened to a ghostly blueberry/coconut whiff, not too far from other kindred accords of this sort... Rather than being fermented, watered, or soured into a chutney sort, Sandalo Nobile is naturally rounded and velvety smooth with a balance of sweet n’ spice that merely hints at gourmand with its lush Mediterranean fare that is simply ‘santal-icious’... No mother in the re-invention, merely understated and pressed to impress...

The idea behind this is to produce a very creamy sandalwood by adding fig tree, benzoin & balsam. The fig-tree note produce a coconut-like accord, and the other notes in combination with it are quite lactonic. I just don't smell the furniture-varnish vibe a few other posters are complaining about. My only exception to this is it's not as interesting as I would like. So many of Nobile 1942's masculine fragrances are so elegant because they develop the dominant note or subgenre in such intriguing ways (here I am thinking of Fougere Nobile and Patchoule Nobile in particular), and I guess I wanted more development and surprise in this. It's nice, but to my mind it's not as rich or luxurious as I had hoped.

Creamy sandalwood with a noticeable (but soft) support of saffron and a hint of cumin. In the background, an etheral iris combined to the benzoin and fig tree will give subtle fruity sweetness, preventing the blend from becoming too masculine. SN's drydown is close to the one of Tam Dao EDP. In spite of all the supporting notes, the sandalwood remains the undisputed star of the show. Performance is moderate, as expected for a sandalwood-centric fragrance. A beautiful creation by Nobile 1942, that doesn't shine by its originality, but a great option for who might be looking for a 'creamy sandalwood soliflore'. Very nice, even if it leans a bit too fruity/sweet for my tastes.

Gave this one away as something about it just wasn't quite right for me; was looking for something like Tam Dao but more long-lasting - a never-ending quest - and the fig/or perhaps the cumin in this turned a little acrid and overbearing on my skin. A bit too male-seeming for me, which is unusual for something so sweet. Less of a beast than Santal 33 but certainly more in that ballpark. Not bad, but somehow a little odd.

Powdery powdery powdery. The creamy sandalwood component is lovely, but I am not a fan of fig or powder fragrances. Edit after Several Trials: The powdery quality only showed up the first few times. I don't know if the sample changed or if my nose became more attuned to other things. Now I smell more of a rounded sandalwood and a very slight, very vague sense of some of warm fruit.

This is a beautiful and complex sandalwood fragrance. The opening is spicy and warm with saffron and cumin, which quickly gives way to a creamy, powdery iris and fig accord. The dry down is smooth and woody with a hint of sweetness from the benzoin and gurjan balsam. It's long-lasting and perfect for cooler weather.

The sandalwood in Nobile’s Sandalo is so creamy it feels like there’s coconut in the composition. The creaminess takes a back seat to the heavy wood note in this fragrance, the sandalwood remains consistent. Great projection, don’t overspray - this one is powerful and might be overwhelming to some. Just beautiful.

I don't feel it's synthetic. The "synthetic" feel is probably due to the opening cumin aroma that immediately leaves space to a beautiful fig tree scent. I love it especially at the beginning. Nice clean/woody drydown. Overall gorgeus perfume

I really like this but for some reason on me it smells like Versace Crystal Noir especially in the opening.

Creamy coconutty sandalwood. Faintly sweet, not dry. Quite synthetic.

#1300 in my "Tour de Fragrance" I have a lot of neighbors from India. I know when I walk by their houses that masala is on the menu from all the cumin in the air. This is kind of like that. I love the Nobile 1942 brand. Lots of great scents. With this one you have to give it a while for the overbearing cumin and balsam notes to fade. It's good quality stuff, but an uncommon mix of notes, so this may be hard for many to like. To get these notes in the same scent you pretty much have to look at the "kitchen sink" scents like Roja Dove and Nabeel where they're accompanied by fourteen other notes. I'm unsure what if any setting I'd wear this in, but tight spaces would not be one. Certainly not summer wear. Not office wear. I don't imagine it as attractive for date wear. It's one of those scents I want to like but am not sure I'd like it all day. So I'm probably gonna pass on this one.

From the first spray, the woody character is immediately clear. The sandalwood feels warm, smooth, slightly powdery, and faintly creamy. After a short while, iris and fig wood begin to surface. At this stage, the sandalwood becomes finer in texture, softer, and closer to the skin, with a subtle sense of moisture reminiscent of plant sap. In the drydown, the scent settles into a warm, skin hugging woody presence. It does not aim for strong distinctiveness, but it works well as an everyday modern sandalwood fragrance.

I have the same problem with Sandalo Nobile that I have with most every sandalwood perfume I've tried: it's on the edge of pickle juice, to my nose. The fig tree note definitely softens the blow but still, it just does not work for me. If I want to enjoy sandalwood, I'll stick with my Mysore Sandalwood soap.

this opens with fig, sandalwood and iris. it stays very linear, and in essence it's a milky sandalwood primarily. later i get some benzoin which softens things a bit. it's a cozy woody perfume in a modern and unisex kind of way, and i find it very synthetic. not my cup of tea personally.

Not for me. Cumin is a liability. Also, if I want sandalwood there’s nothing better than Tam Dao.

Interesting to see how most below say that this is smooth and pleasant all the way. I am in the seemingly smaller group that gets a petrochemical like unpleasantness; also something metallic that does not play nice. It comes across as acrid and off-putting in the opening for me. I find it in sharp contrast to the creamy sandalwood (I get the coconut as well). The industrial funk does quiet down and get more in balance with the rest of the blend after an hour or two, but it does not go away altogether, and never gets to a place of smooth harmony for me. There are no problem notes listed, so I'm not sure who the offender is. I have no issues with saffron or cumin. I actually like a little funk, and I don't usually shy away from oily/leather or industrial type smells- it just really doesn't work for me in this blend. But on the upside, I do find it to have good performance and longevity, so if you're one that doesn't interpret the blend as dissonant this may be great for you! All this to say- not a safe blind buy- definitely test first! Experience from multiple wears in different weather from a decanted spray sample provided by Jovoy.

Essence of synthetic sandalwood - an instant scrubber!

I'm on a sandalwood quest. Ambitious to find a very specific profile and I will just know it when I find it. Basically I'm after a good balance of creamy and dry with a decent longevity. While Santal Nobile has a wonderful resemblance to the Radio Bombay dry down I love, it also has a dirtiness about it that I don't know if I will be able to get past. It's a beautiful sandalwood totally overshadowed by the smell of auto grease.

Starts out interesting with notes of cumin and saffron adding a sweaty and kind of metallic gilding to the powdery sandalwood. They quickly melt and dissolve into a soapy musk base though, leaving a pleasant and innocuous white musk and light wood perfume suitable for work places etc but that doesn’t have anything to really distinguish it as memorable.

A very interesting delicate take of powdery iris, sandalwood, and figs . powdery and slightly woody and sweet. Very balanced and very soft. This is a superb creation by Nobile 1942. Edit (16th Aug 2017) It has that rubbery sweet mix with doses of sandalwood. The fig in here is sticky and airy, quite an enchanting blend.

This is one of those super unique out of the box niche scents that begs for a special nose. I found it fall in the furniture polish zone on me. I thought there was a floral note for a sec but I think it was my nose wanting to smell a flower or perhaps the orange blossom gasping to escape its element buddies and failing.

Ooof this is my all time favourite ( for at least this week haha )! Starts off with fig, dries down in the most calming woody creamy sandelwood. No strong cumin at all. Soapy on paper, woody on skin. Love love looooove it!!! Used my tester till the rest drop, ordered a travel size for now, buying a FB asap.

I get a very clean soapy sandalwood. I'm super surprised to see cumin in the notes list because that usually gives off some BO stank, but I just get soapy sandalwood and a touch of iris.

Very similar DNA to Santal Blush. Santal Blush is richer and spicier. Sandalo is a lighter, airier take on the same DNA. I love creamy sandalwood - so this is a love for me! So good!

Downright the best sandalwood centric creation in my collection. Another hidden gem!
