FOR REST

'Peaceful' isn't an adjective that is often used in the description of fragrance. After all, one could ask what it would mean for something that is smelled to be peaceful. Could it be that it isn't loud or strident? Not necessarily—I find that many nuanced perfumes can be suggestive, even seductive, but do not relay a message of peace. Might it be in accords that we associate with peace: incense, woods, those that are naturalistic. Perhaps, but even these can have their own connotations of darkness or light that may be more moody or maybe vivacious. For Rest from Nonfiction to me is an olfactory appeal to peace. Indeed, the name is implicit, but in Fillion's approach to the elements, each is measured in a way that yields a sense of amelioration. It will be okay: let this rosy hinoki incense be your succor as you lie down and allow the thoughts to flow by like leaves on a stream. Note them as they enter your line of view, are present, and then drift past you. This is its feeling. Glimmers of spirit through scent, smoked and steeped yuzu peel, a warm nutmeg embrace, divine frankincense tears, and the distant glow of hope. Peace.

This is my first perfume purchase so I feel compelled to leave a review since there is none. It's a pretty unique scent! Bright Yuzu citrus in the foreground with rose, and amber-like sweetness in the background. The nutmeg adds an intoxicating sweet spice dimension to it. I cannot detect the hinoki however. After a while, the lightly smoky incense comes in. Pretty versatile! But the vibes is definitely more relaxed, meditative rather than energetic. IMO it's the most unique out of this entire line. Interestingly, months after purchasing this bottle I learned that the nose is Barnabe Fillion, the perfumer behind Aesop Hwyl, which is also one of my fav fragrances. No wonder it smells so interesting. He is up there as one of the greats.

I am currently on the second bottle and remember when For Rest was not listed on Fragrantica, not so long ago. This is definitely among my top 10 fragrances. It is a perfectly nuanced rose resin, a quiet, therapeutic, contemplative combo, it gets under your skin and lingers for a long time. It is a great balance of rose, citruses and resins. The Asian perfume industry is booming lately, with amazing brands such as To Summer, Melt Season, and Nonfiction. All other Nonfiction fragrances are worth attention, especially Santal Cream and Gaiac Flower. With great, authentic concepts and competitive prices, hopefully, they pose a challenge for overpriced and overhyped brands like Le Labo.

Loving it, I'm wearing it with the actual leather jacket in winter and it feels so good with the leather scent!! Definitely waiting for summer to come but feels like you can wear it all around the year. stays pretty long for fabric but on my skin not so well. --edit cannot get enough of it, absolute love. It's my go-to perfume when I'm overwhelmed, or for bed time. It's the yuzu that's subtle yet presentable, long lasting making the Hinoki soft and calm. I love it

I first sampled this a year ago and couldn’t stop thinking about it. Recently, my partner bought it for me as a birthday gift, and I’ve been wearing it every day since. I find myself instinctively returning to smell my wrist throughout the day. Depending on the day and my mood, it can evoke a Japanese bath house or an Orthodox Church - shifting between meditative and mystical, comforting yet subtly alluring.
