Norell New York

So after wearing this for a couple days, I'm loving it more and more. I still get the same notes that was listed in my other review, so not much has changed there. I will say that it does feel a little retro or vintage though. Not in the vintage Norell sense, but just a bit of old fashioned elegance if you know what I mean. I really don't see why this is a "floral green" scent; to me that would be Chanel No.19, but to my nose they don't share any similarities. Norell New York is more floral-oriental to me or it could be how it develops on my skin making it that way. I get moderate sillage on the dry down; it is heavy at first though. The longevity on my skin is 7+ hours. I think the new Norell is a classy, albeit modern with some retro facets, take on the original.

I was surprised by this for a few reasons: 1. My wife & I both dislike scents that are either flowery or woody...but this doesn't smell like either of those notes to us. It's more creamy (though I don't know much about flowers). 2. We've done a great deal of research picking out highly rated samples with tons of reviews, so our expectations were extremely low when given the tester. 3. We gravitate towards fruity scents & had our favorite picked out with Ralph Lauren: Beyond Romance, but we both preferred this, which makes me feel like I need to start over, because we kept ignoring florals...Anyway, there's something elegant about this. She said she felt like a wealthy heiress...If anyone has any recommendations of non-flowery florals that they prefer, let me know.

Bought this hoping it would be similar to vintage Norell. It was a terrible idea. I hate it SO MUCH. Sneezy and nauseating white florals dominate. The orchid, peony, and gardenia together make a hideous, freesia-like, high-pitched, oppressive, NUCLEAR cloud. One tiny spray. I had to wash it off, can't tell you what the other notes are like. Avoid unless you're sure you like the notes listed. Not a safe blind buy. update: I did a 180 on this and now I love it. Can't explain it. That screechy note of galbanum is still there, but somehow adds harmony instead of dissonance now. Orchid-vanilla-sandalwood is a beautiful accord that I have discovered I love in any perfume that has it. Norell makes a body cream and oil in addition to the perfume. Recommend all!

Well, I got my blind buy today and I'm quite pleased with it. I don't get much in the top notes and it doesn't smell "green" to me. I do get the floral heart and the warm base. I mostly smell the peony, jasmine and a little bit of orchid in the heart. The dry down is cozy and sensual; I get mostly vanilla, sandalwood and orris. I haven't tested it enough to comment about longevity and sillage as I came home to it after work. I will say that lovers of the original Norell may not like this version. This one is definitely more "modern" so the vintage feel is gone. However, I will say that it's nice and probably better suited to everyday wear versus the original. I will update as I'll more time to spend with it later during the week.

Norell New York really grew on me. At first, I liked it well enough, but it was a bit more polite a perfume than I generally wear. However, after wearing it a few times and also using the luxurious body cream, I found myself liking it even more. It's a well-blended, clean floral scent that can become a little addicting. By the way, Bulk Apothecary has all the new iterations of Norell (New York, Elixir, and Blushing) on sale for $30 per 3.4 ouncer--a great price for a perfume sold at Neiman Marcus for $150 per bottle.

i have a mystery tester from norell which i believe is new york, although i've been using it for longer than this site says the fragrance was released. maybe they reformulated it? either way, it was my go to for dances in high school. elegant, sincere, classic. can't speak to the version right now.

I love the new Norell. It is classy, feminine, unique and definitely offers a break from all those fruity sweet fragrances ! I am usually not a fan of green floral fragrances, but I just love this one. And I already received a lot of compliments and the sillage is huge.

I changed my mind about this. The gorgeous body oil smells like sweet delicious candied lilac & peony with the galbanum a soft whisper. I like this more now, too. I give the body oil 10/10!

'Norell New York' is an ethereal green-floral composition which carries with it an air of elegant sophistication and class. The opening is mouthwateringly sweet, with a heavy dose of pear. It is accompanied by a faint hint of bitter-green galbanum, juicy mandarin, and bracing bergamot. I sensed an almost crystalline sugar note within this opening, as if smelling candied fruit. The heart of the composition is floral dominated with intoxicating orchid, redolent gardenia, indolic jasmine (said to contain 200 petals per bottle), and elegant peony. It is predominantly a white floral accord with orchid and peony adding contrast, smelling mature and sophisticated. The base notes include orris butter (derived from iris root), vetiver, vanilla, sandalwood and musk. For the majority of the life of the fragrance on the skin the floral notes dominate, but in time it dries down to a warmer woody, musky scent. 'Norell New York' is overall a lovely fragrance. It seems positioned to be well liked and appreciated by a more mature female audience. The scent itself feels appropriate for a woman who has gained a beautiful inward confidence through years of life experiences. As an "eau de parfum" the fragrance performs excellently, with above average sillage, projection, and longevity. With its predominant floral accord, this perfume seems most appropriate for spring and summer wearings, however it is a universally attractive scent and can be clearly utilized for wearing during the colder months of the year as well. For those with a thirst for the ultra luxurious and exclusive, Norell has also released the fragrance in a limited edition flacon created by the prestigious Baccarat crystal house of France (picture above). Overall classy, pleasant, and safe. The opening smells like spring. I don't get any of the fruity top notes, just greenery and powdery iris root. The flowers really shine as the perfume starts to warm on my skin, and it becomes warmer and softer throughout the day. I'd say there are many other similar perfumes, but this one is of a higher quality than most. No blast of alcohol in the top, no synthetic sharpness, and every element seems properly balanced. I like it enough that I'll probably use up my Scentbird sample as the weather warms, but once it's finished, I don't think I'll miss it enough to buy more.

A pleasant fragrance, but nothing particularly bold or memorable. It's light, clean, fresh and has a sparkling quality, similar to the effervescence of aldehydes, but.. without the aldehydes. I think the freshness of it, and the green/citrus qualities are reminiscent of pine. But there's only a dash of that pine freshness under the romantic, feminine florals that dominate the scent. For some reason, it reminds me of holidays and Christmas shopping and champagne.

Parfum reviewed. Opens with a bergamot, galbanum and sour pear.Jasmine, orchid and gentle gardenia comes in next. Its understated, transitions well, not an attention grabber but cleanly polished. well done but not my style.

On me it smells like green jasmine paint thinner. Wan, alcoholic, and kind of sour. I think it's trying to be an airy green / white floral chypre but not quite getting there. I think people who are looking at this might be happier with Chanel Cristalle.

Norell New York is very pretty to me, and somehow nostalgic. While there is no leather/suede note listed, it brings to mind the smell of my mother's beige kid gloves that she wore back in the 1950's and 60's and still had in her dresser drawer during the 1970's when I was little. It also somehow reminds me of my pink, soft leather ballet slippers I used to wear to my childhood dance classes... Very sweet memories! Nostalgia aside, Norell New York starts off floral sweet, with no aldehydes and almost a honey note -- creamy, white florals (jasmine and gardenia), with just a hint of fresh green. I'm not sure what orchid smells like, but apparently it's very noticeable here to those who recognize that note. The first spray was pretty remarkable in that there was NO alcohol note that you usually expect; someone else on Fragrantica also noted this. It makes me wonder if this fragrance has more oils in it, but it seems like more oils would increase both the sillage and longevity here which, frankly, it doesn't; as it dries down, it becomes just too much of a skin scent. Thus, in spite of the sweet reminiscences it inspires -- my pink ballet slippers and mom's soft kid gloves -- Norell New York just does not have enough character or longevity to merit adding to my collection.

Very nice but a pale shadow of the original Norell with which it has very little in common. If you are an admirer of the original perfume and want to find out how the new version relates to the vintage one, then compare the original Ivoire to the recent Balmain creation carrying the same name. They are very little similar, if not at all. I find the new Norell beautiful but common, nothing to write home about. Elegant but ordinary. The Josephine Catapano cologne was a masterpiece. The Celine Barel eau de parfum seems like a Ford next to Catapano's Bentley. The longevity is decent and so is the sillage. Is it worth the $150.00 price tag? Not really, but still it is so much better than most of the other new fragrances launched recently.

I have no clue why I like this but I do! However, I think its a mature scent - its a capital "P" Perfume, and you shall respect it as such. This is one of those perfumes that is so well-blended and so expansive that I cannot tell what I am smelling by notes, so I understand why everyone is describing this by the "vibe" they get from it. Its floral, green, and sweet, with a distinctive musk. Its a warm scent, a heavier scent. It has presence - the silliage and longevity are intense, so a little goes a long way. The powdery drydown makes me think of my grandmother (in a good way). This is very classy, and I'd wear it to more formal dinners, an appointment, etc. This is a perfume to wear when you feel established and stately.

Opens with a wine-like pear but then the galbanum and florals come in (which, for me, is a relief) and it becomes something fairly unique, evocative and compelling smelling. It brings to mind New York in old Christmas movies or the pictures in old Curious George books. Well-dressed ladies in fur coats, using those long cigarette holders like Holly Golightly. The rose/peony note becomes more pronounced as it sits and is what I think gives this perfume its edge. Slightly sour, slightly rough, slightly dirty. It’s the grit and gasoline part of the New York image. I would wear this purely for the story and nostalgia it evokes. Somehow can’t wrap my head around this being launched in 2015.

This is for those who remember and like 70s chypres or the big 80s floral compositions. It is not a current trend but falls into a timeless category. It is well done but a beast. I don’t care for green fragrance and it took me two years to appreciate it. Today’s perfume are rather one dimensional. Peeps seem uninterested in getting to know a scent. Must be immediate like which actually cheats the person from great offerings. It’s a love or hate. For most. IF you can appreciate her power this one will reveal herself. Still prefer Blushing or Elixir but this is true to what it’s meant to be.

The prominent notes to me are the sandalwood, musk, gardenia, vetiver, and the bergamot. After the initial spray, the peony becomes also part of the prominent notes. It's a very lovely, feminine, and creamy fragrance. Not too faint or too strong. Fans of Cashmere Mist, Heavenly, Glowing, Love Chloe and Narciso are most likely going to enjoy this. The vanilla is detectable and makes the fragrance a tad sweet. A perfume that is warm, perfect for the Fall. Nice fragrance. It's worth trying.

It definitely has a classic vibe, it is a greenish floral scent, I diidnt think it was outstanding, but if you want an easy to wear, not in your face floral, it might work..I don't fnd it sweet one bit, it has a aldehydic opening, made me think of Balmain Ivoire, without the soapy vibe..l liked it, but didn't try it long enough to enjoy it fully !!

Smelled this for the first time today. It was ok. Pretty but very ordinary. I have smelled the same notes in so many different fragrances. I would never be able to pick this perfume out of a lineup. I definitely don't see the need to buy it especially given the high price point for something so generic.

This review is for the body oil. It’s a pleasant enough floral that I could honestly take or leave, but the oil itself is excellent and hydrating. I have several body oils and this one seems to help my skin the most. FWIW. Has absolutely nothing to do with Josephine Catapano‘s gorgeous Norell.

I just got my bottle yesterday. Love it. Very nice perfume. The longevity is better than good.
