Rose Gambit

I never expected to like it this much — I'm not exactly a rose fan. And yet, it was my absolute favorite perfume for about a year and a half, and a very, very dear scent in my collection ever since. I adore it. For me and on my skin, it's an intensely sweet, almost confectionary rose — the rose petal jam of my childhood, or the roses we harvested to make it, or the Bulgarian rose oil my grandma kept in a little vial. And just as you get properly comforted by that sweet, floating rose, all of a sudden you get bitter, intoxicating hay, and the dry smell of herbal tea in a dusty cloth bag, and the tenderness of almond milk, and a tiny boozy note. Together, these remind me of how a steppe smells on a late summer night after an incredibly hot day. It's almost shameless, this herbal note, but it's ridiculously well-balanced. If I had to keep one single perfume from my collection, it could very well be this one. Effortlessly sensual, confident. Everyone compliments it. I feel invincible when I wear it. Pretty enough for the office, playful enough for a date night, comforting enough to wear at home. Highly recommend if you enjoy roses.

My personal favorite of the line. I'm a sucker for rose and a new twist on rose, which Rose Gamit is, it comes across as quite an interesting and new take on rose. I get a lot of hay and chamomile with the rose upon first spray. It is dusty country roads, hay fields being mown, my grandma's rose bushes (although the roses are done by the time a farmer has to mow hay) a little bit of pipe tobacco, some sweetness I assume is from the almond milk. But they are all perfectly blended so you aren't hit over the head with each note. Rose gambit is more of a sensation about how looking at the beauty of roses makes you feel more than being a rose fragrance in itself. It is a nostalgic fragrance. A perfume that calls for a simpler way of life. A call back to nature, to a rural existence. It reminds me of my childhood. Love it.

Disclaimer: I'm no expert on rose perfumes, this is my second and probably last rose perfume cause it covers all my "rose" needs. The rose is breathing and bursts with sparkling wine. It's not a fresh-morning "safe" rose either - it has liqueur with raspberry undertones; it's a rose warm with light smoke, not seductive. I also can smell the minerality there - the rose and the liqueur lay nearby chalk. I do love it. Wearing it, I feel like a kind of superhero - invulnerable and beautiful in shining vibranium armour. Lasts about 4 hours on hot skin and about 7 hours on clothes. Try it, especially if you think you don't like rose perfumes.

I like my roses with the twist, but the combination of rose and patchouli doesn't do it for me any more. So I started looking for a rose/hay combo. Rose Prive by L'Artisan was a bit too heavy and sweet (maybe the amber in there). Rose Gambit, however, exceeded my expectations! This is a rose with just enough sweetness that doesn't scream "rose oil" and doesn't have the "hissiness" of patchouli or heaviness of vanilla/amber in the drydown. It is a pure joy in the bottle. I smell the rose itself, the herbs, some spices and the milky softness that you want to last forever!

I won this at the fragrantica fall give away and its absolutely stunning🥰🥰🥰 Im not really a rose person in perfumes but with this one i am! To my nose a dewy, dark, smooth, creamy yet fresh and airy rose, with a touch of wood and tobacco in the drydown❤️ So lovely!

Rose, herbal, green, floral, fresh spicy, sweet, almond, tobacco, boozy, alcohol, woody, feminine, chic, sensual, seductive, charming, whimsical, dreamy, delightful, alluring, intriguing, cozy, comforting, nostalgic, unique On me this opens with a lovely, delicate, rose note with sweet, green, and aromatic hay, and green, herbal, and slightly fresh spicy chamomile. The dry down envelopes you with rich tobacco, a splash of boozy liquor, sweet and nutty almond milk, soft woody notes, and a floral note which I take to be the liatrix. The rose is less delicate here, and almost more like a rose jam. There’s almost a syrupy sweetness here, particularly in the dry down. The most prominent notes on me are the rose and hay followed by the chamomile and then tobacco. Overall, it’s such a lovely, nostalgic, and very unique rose scent! This makes me think of sitting on an old country porch coming off of a dusty dirt road. It’s summertime and the hay fields are being mowed while the rose bushes bloom along the porch. A bag of chamomile tea sits on the table next to you, and you catch whiffs of pipe tobacco and boozy liquor. I don’t own a ton of rose scents, but it’s something that I’m realizing I like more and more. I just recently won Rose Gambit in a giveaway, and I also got a bottle of SDJ 91 that came as a free gift with an order. To be totally honest, I likely wouldn’t have purchased either of these on their own. Turns out that to my surprise I actually really like both of them! I’m really glad that I’m getting to try more rose scents recently, which has let me realize that I do actually really enjoy them! I’m very happy to have both of them as part of my collection, and want to give a huge thank you to Fragrantica for the bottle of Rose Gambit, and this opportunity to try something different, and unique, and to discover my enjoyment of something new! This is definitely not your typical rose perfume, It has such a unique twist to it! I’ve never smelled anything like it before! I really enjoy the addition of hay here. It adds a uniquely sweetly aromatic twist. I also like how the rose isn’t overpowering. It’s very well blended and balanced, so you get a nice mixture of all of the notes. I really like how the rose and chamomile are the only floral notes, and that this doesn’t have any fruity notes either. It reads as a sweetly aromatic/herbal and dry scent which I think is very fitting because of the notes. Since I really like both this and Cheirosa 91, I looked to see if there were similarities between the 2. 91 does have a passion fruit note in the opening, but otherwise it doesn’t have any other fruity notes, and only a magnolia note as the other floral. 91 has more gourmand notes, and reads as a sweet, juicy, honeyed rose scent. They’re both sweet rose scents, but quite different overall, and of course Rose Gambit is much more sophisticated. To me this feels feminine, and suitable for women of any age. I think this will work best during the spring, summer, and fall, but could also be worn during the winter. This is such a unique scent profile, but I actually think it’s suitable for most occasions including work/school. I get great performance with Rose Gambit. The longevity is on the strong side as it lasts 7+ hours on my skin. The projection is on the moderate side as it radiates out about an arm’s length. A classy rose scent with a beautiful medicinal undertone. A little bit "rough on the edges" probably coming from the hay/tobacco. I like it since I'm not really into overly girly rose fragrances, like those popular designer rose fragrances in general. Decays in some sort of liquor aspect as described in the comment below. I have a bottle of rose liquor at home and it gets closed to it. It's quite beautiful and long lasting. You can feel the quality. It took a while to receive my order form this brand (I'm in the US) and was worried I would never receive anything. So sorry that I was worried about that, so far your fragrances are amazing and priced accordingly :)
