Frida's Thorns

Finally! Thank you Obvious! I have the feeling you did something absolutely not obvious. At least for me. A warm spicy accord without cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, ginger or other spices? How can it be? I seem to have problem with the above mentioned notes and now I finally understand what a cocooning scent really is. It was love at 1st snif. More or less linear scent from the beginning till end. Cacao and chocolate from the top notes with something...I can not describe. I see the notes above but I can not detect any specific fruit or rose. But something is obviously very well blended with the cacao and chocolate. Something what makes this scent less sweet and non-edible. There is a hint of patchouli and vanilla but again blended with cacao and chocolate to balance the sweetness. I would not compare it to Soie Malaquais. Soie tested on my skin together with FT is fresher, fruitier and even slightly sweeter. For my nose there are two totally different scents for different occasion. After 1st tests I can write the projection is very good but after 5-7h it becomes a more skin scent. However I can still smell it in the morning when I spray it on my wrist late afternoon a day before. I can not wait for winter to test it in colder weather on sweaters.

OMG, this one is sooo good!! Feminine, warm, cozy, and soft. I didn’t check the notes before testing it, and on the first sniff, the cacao/chocolate, vanilla, and a bit of raspberry stood out immediately. I think it’s more wearable during the colder months, but it’s not overpowering at all, so it would still work perfectly in the office or during the daytime. The only thing keeping me from buying it is the dry down. After a while, the rose and patchouli become much more prominent, and I’m personally not a huge fan of those notes. But aside from that, it’s a really interesting and beautifully blended fragrance!

I get an amazing nutty scent, I assume it's the cacao. I kept smelling the paper throughout my tour around a perfume shop. Subtle and amazing, I would buy if it weren't for the price.

There's something really intriguing about this scent, though I don't love it. It's one that has the potential to grow on me. It opens with, to my nose, a very prominent biscuity note that I'm not entirely keen on. After a while it dissipates and you're left with a somewhat sharp, astringent rose note that reminds me of Kayali's Fleur Majesty Rose Royale but in a way I enjoy more than that fragrance. It's a perfume that my nose doesn't quite understand what it's smelling, so I keep coming back to sniff it. It's certainly interesting! It lasts a long time and is fairly strong, so a good performer. I don't find this to be a linear scent as different facets of its character emerge over time. I think this is one that would get comments, if not compliments. I'm keen to find out whether this will go from a like to a love because of its intrigue.

Delicious pistachio dessert. No thorns to be found. This would be a good candle scent - I love smelling it, but I don't like wearing scents this sweet and edible.

On my skin it smells like burnt cocoa shortcrust pastry with jam.

Opening is straight cough syrup. Then it gets really cool, kinda like a party of scents. Then it dries down to the ugliest rose-patchouli I've ever smelt.

I’m not a fan of the fruity opening, except that there is something a bit nutty about it which makes it quite interesting. However the middle and drydown are amazing- pure chocolate patchouli with no skank. Not sure what it has to do with thorns- everything is silky smooth here. I would have liked more roses as Frida was the queen of colour and flowers! As a Mexican- I can embrace this, but I still say it needs either roses, tuberose or marigolds to be truly Mexican! Viva Frida! Edit, after wearing this all day- I can say that the flowers come out later. It becomes a silky smooth chocolate rose. It reminds me slightly of the rose in Rose dAmalfi- creamy not too flowery. Yum!

This is a masterpiece! Don’t let the chocolate scare you— there is nothing “edible” about it. This is not a thick or gloopy chocolate, nor is it an overly powdery cocoa. It’s elegant, very unique and impeccably well made. The drydown reminds me faintly of Eau de Charlotte in that they both feature a powdery cocoa, but Frida’s Thorne is a much richer, grown up composition. I love it, and it has made me want to explore other scents by this brand.

I really, really want to like this because of the amazing creamy, warm, and spicy vanilla but there's just a note that rankles me. Something slightly off. I think it's the cacao note that smells like dusty flour. However, the longevity is fantastic and the longer I smell it ,,, I can't say that I LIKE it or that I like smelling like it but it's so addictive that I do want to get it for my collection. Very unusual scent.

This is a beautiful jammy rose (the same kind as the one in Jardins de Misfah) with notes of cacao and an impression of hazelnut. It smells really fresh and I think raspberry might have something to do with it. It's what I wanted Dolce Passione to be. Less gourmand and fresher. Edit 02/2026 : This has become my most complimented scent. Funny because I don't wear it very often.

Gorgeous! Opens with rose and maybe a bit of fruitiness then dries down to rose, chocolate and patchouli. Smells like a yummy rose dessert. It does seem like what you might get if you combined Rose Rouge or Lancôme Parfait de Roses with Soie Malaquais.

I detect the rose in the opening, but after 2-3 hours it's gone and the drydown is entirely about cocoa. The fragrance is not gourmand. There is something salty which I smell from the beginning to the end, which stopped me from buying a bottle.

This reminds me of Betel nut chewing that's filled with rose, sweetness.
