Un Poivre

If you like simple and natural smelling fragrances, you will like Un Poivre. Just like the notes are listed, this opens with pepper and quickly fades to a very natural just chopped cedar wood scent (at least on my skin). Eventually it calms down to the warmth and gentle spice of the ginger with some sweet green from the violet leaf, all the while giving a very nice “after taste” of the sweetness from the amyris. I personally love this fragrance and I am very into natural out-doorsy smelling fragrances. I like to pair it with Une Rose when I’m wanting a little floral/citrus zest to top this off.

A simply beautiful, simple, straightforward black pepper fragrance. Its beauty is in its simplicity. Fresh, woody, gingery, elegant, feels natural. Sometimes this is all you need. The fragrance is surprisingly also extremely long lasting on skin, even if the sillage is between intimate and moderate.

This! I adore this fragrance. It was a complete surprise in the best of ways. Pink pepper, bitingly beautiful ginger and vetiver. Crisp, clean definitely unisex.I bought a full bottle immediately. I also purchased the sample pack from Luckyscent. I really enjoyed them all.

A hyper realistic spice market in a bottle. In the Pacific Northwest we have a local chain of organic co-op markets called PCC (Pacific Consumer Markets). When I found out I had allergies to the hormones they pumped into dairy animals, I started shopping here in the 1980s when there were few options for what was considered “high brow” groceries. Anyway, these stores now resemble a pricier Whole Foods (if you can imagine that) but PCC didn’t start out that way. In the early 1970s it was a bring-your-own-container “hippie market”, where you not only could find organic and bulk food, but you could find exotic spices, handmade soap and a huge variety of tea from around the world. And that’s what Un Poivre smells like, a PCC market from the 1980s. I’m not on board with this as a personal scent, but I do like it. And, usually I avoid using the word interesting because I find that I use it when I’m not sure what else to say— but that’s exactly what this perfume is, interesting.

Un Poivre is one of my favorite offerings from Obvious. It is a rather simple molecular pepper and I think the comparison to CdG makes sense. The pepper is a dry black pepper with a touch of wood. My only complain it that I think it needs a touch of a sweet woody note like fir to balance the pepper. It smells great on it's own, but it is amazing for layering. Just like adding pepper to a dish to enhance the flavors, Un poivre enhances any fragrance you layer it with in a subtle way. 4/5

On a hot summer day, in a beachfront town, on a man. That's when this fresh spicy green beauty with a touch of resinous depth would shine. Much more intriguing than a typical citrusy freshie you would think of for the occasion. It's spicy and bitter for sure but at the same time light and cool and green, interesting how those facets were combined so well.

once you get past the glue from an envelope smell, it's just pepper. but for the most part, i feel like i'm at the post office.

Floral pencil shavings. It’s my fault for thinking this would be anything other than what it’s advertised as.

Interesting in that I've never smelled something so purely spicy. It's strange, with hints at floral, and maybe fruity undertones, but it's like they've been vaporized into fine dust and are floating around on a bed of water- barely there. Sometimes with things like bay leaf and cumin the effect can lean too savory or too much like a kitchen cabinet. That doesn't fully happen here thankfully (although it does get sharp and a little dusty), and I get a weird sense of maybe an outdoors farmers market with wicker baskets full of whole spice mixes, where a fresh breeze carries the aroma in the wind. Hints of wood and ginger come through as well. It's somewhat abstract but it's kinda pretty in an oddly familiar, rustic way. Will need to revisit this and think about it more.

Beautiful chopped wood and pine trees, A slight bite of alcohol from the underlying vetiver. Sweet cedar. Calming, realistic, calm, refined. A little bit like a meadow after the rain. If you like vetiver and cedar, this is a safe go-to. Basically lies somewhere inbetween Replica's Jazz Club and From The Garden on me, with a good dash of Encre Noire. Finally, for layering: this is personal, but I greatly enjoy it layered with Santal Majascule by SL.

Wasn't wild about Poivre- it smells exactly as it sounds- like pepper. It's projection is the most impressive of the obvious collection I've sampled so far, but I found it too 1-note. Then I had this genius idea to layer it with the obvious vanilla (seriously, where do I come up with this stuff ;) ? ) The result was really nice! I definitely plan to go back and reexplore this set and okay around with layering.
