Petit Gâteau

Petit Gâteau, which is I believe Italian for 'Cat Comb', is one of those perfect gourmand fragrances that smell like you could just dip a spoon in the bottle and enjoy a mouthful. If you had a small enough spoon, anyway, because I was just trying a sample of this in one of the tiny vials. I want a proper one though. It's genuinely gorgeous! An initial blast of marzipan that dries down quite quickly to this cozy vanilla buttercream scent, that I found myself absolutely loving. I kept saying 'smell me, I'm a cake'. I say that sort of thing a lot, to be fair, but this time it wasn't a non sequitur. Finally. That said, it is one that I think you'd need to prompt people to get a whiff of, as the sillage was very intimate. I like that! I don't want to draw too much more attention in a room than I already do, so a fragrance that's just a little bonus for my partners when they lean in for a kiss? That's my jam. Speaking of jam, I wonder if this would be nice paired with another gourmand or if it'd just be subsumed by it. The sillage is low, and according to other reviews the longevity is too, though on my skin it's still going strong the day after. I'm still a cake, just not quite as big as when I first sprayed it. Like some sort of... little cake? Why didn't they call the fragrance that

This is lovely. Warm. Delicate. Buttery. A shower of powdered sugar on a dove grey Sunday morning. The opening is amaretto w/o being “boozy”- like you cooked it into a syrup to drizzle over your crepes. Almond just shy of turning cherry. As it wears it alternates between ‘powdery, sugary, musky, haze’, ‘buttery croissant warm from the oven’, and crème brûlée with a touch of almond and brown sugar’. Petit Gateau’s longevity is 10 hrs easy on skin, yet the silage/projection stays delicate- back to that indulgent Sunday morning, luxury that doesn’t have to shout. The sun is starting to look like it might break through the morning clouds, maybe you’ll wrap yourself in a cashmere blanket and step out on the patio. A spring gourmand sans florals. 🌦️🥐🎀✨🥄🧁🤍🌤️

I've been loving this super rich buttery vanilla scent these past couple days. The sillage is intimate and the longevity is really good!!! It lasts well over 24 hours on my skin. The scent reminds me of Pas De Chat without having that silky cashmere note and kitten fur accord and turning up the vanilla all the way. I can smell the almond-y notes from the marzipan and it's heavy on the brown butter and toasted Tonka bean. I get the pudding vibe and warmth of the Brûleed Vanilla as well. If you're looking for a really yummy warm toasted vanilla scent this one is it!! It reminds me of youthful laughter and being 16 up all night drinking Amaretto with my cousins because it was so buttery sweet and easy to drink.

This is such an easy reach for me. I have a really sensitive nose, so this is perfect. It's light enough that I can freely spray myself 4-5 times for the full experience and I personally smell it all day. I definitely get the honeyed marzipan here, and secondarily a buttery vanilla cake. It's creamy, it's sweet, and it's just nuanced enough to ensure I don't get bored. It's really lovely. I would be comfortable wearing this in any season, but it leans a little more toward cooler weather. EDIT: I love this more and more every time I wear it. Will be looking for my opportunity to add a 100ml to my collection asap.

I’m amazed at Odette’s ability to use all these delicious gourmand notes without getting too sweet or cloying. The opening has a perfect almond that doesn’t veer cherry, synthetic, woody, or green like in many other almond fragrances. It’s more like realistic almond extract that you’d find in French pastries. Paired with whipped cream and browned butter, it’s truly a lactonic dream. By the dry down, it becomes a quiet skin scent that’s sometimes hard to smell (maybe I’ve become anosmic). You’ll just have this sweet buttery aura that will have people wondering if that’s your natural skin.

I absolutely adore this scent. It was love at first sniff for me. My grandfather was a baker in Germany during WWII. After escaping to America, he continued his love for baking and eventually had a bakery style kitchen in the basement to bake as his hobby. Although his cakes were all phenomenal, he ALWAYS made marzipan and would bring it over anytime he stopped by. When O saw this as a note I knew I had to have it. It didn’t disappoint. This scent evokes so many memories when aI wear it. It’s truly special. This is almondy, bready, buttery goodness and my favorite from the line!

So many vanilla fragrances claim to smell like ice cream. Haven't tried them all, but Sorce's Match Made In Heaven was the closest at getting it right to me until I came across this one. It's funny that Petit Gateau doesn't make the ice cream claim, and to be fair I guess cake and icecream notes are similar, but MAN. This IS vanilla bean ice cream in a bottle. Best vanilla I've ever smelled. And the fact that it's so airy and delicate is what makes it shine imo...just makes you smell like you're made of cake/ice cream instead of just having doused yourself in it. So well done.

Do you remember the courtier in Sofia Coppola's "Marie Antoinette" who murmurs "She looks like a little piece of cake" in describing the young Dauphine? Petit Gâteau is that little piece of cake. I'm generally not fond of sugary, gourmand fragrances, but Petit Gâteau somehow manages to possess all the delightful ingredients of a freshly baked buttercream cake without being saccharine sweet. Brûléed vanilla, brown butter, Chantilly cream, and tonka bean blend masterfully together to create a warm and cozy, comforting silage. Let them eat cake, indeed!

This is such a beautiful delicate almondy marzipan and buterry cake scent. It really reminds me of tiny little cakes. The scent is on the lighter side but it leaves a beautiful sweet skin scent. And I have been enjoying layering it with more dense base heavy scents to sweeten them up. Scent is light sweet and smells like a true to life marzipan and cake. And the shop is amazing and the owner is incredibly kind. Fantastic customer service.

okay this may be my new go-to gourmand perfume. i originally ordered samples of this and pas de chat and they are both beautiful, well thought out vanillas, and i have since ordered full sizes of both. but this one really really does it for me. the way it dries down on my skin is so soft, warm, cozy, like the smell of fresh buttercream cake wafting in the breeze from a cafe down the street. its subtle but really something beautiful.

I've already ranted about how much I love Madeleine, and Petit Gateau is very similar. It smells like an airier version of straight almond extract (ideal for me). I have never been able to handle gourmands but Odette does them so beautifully and they're photorealistic and not headache inducing. I can absolutely douse myself in this and it will last all day and not bother me. Stunning and delicious, very marzipan forward and sweet.

This is the most delicious, buttery, warm gourmand i’ve ever smelled! Feels like i’m eating the trader joes chantilly cream (iykyk) - truly delicious!!! It’s so fluffy & girly - I love this so much. It truly reminds me of pink buttercream frosting! I wore this on my son’s 3rd birthday to create a scent memory and it’s just such a beautiful light fragrance. It doesn’t last very long and it sits closely to the skin but that is really just Odettes line in general and I love that.

This is sweet, nutty, and comforting. One of my favorite scents is French Oakmoss by For Strange Women due to its dark nuttiness. This scent encapsulates that same feeling while leaning more feminine. It’s very sweet. I’m so happy to have found this. My fiancé couldn’t get enough of me in this sweet lil concoction.

A rich sponge cake soaked in whiskey—or maybe this is just how honey marzipan smells! It feels like indulging in a velvety vanilla pudding with caramelized brown sugar on top. I wonder if it would give me a headache on skin, because if not, this could become my favorite sweet perfume.

delightful. the honey and marzipan come through very clearly, with a soft underlying, almost powdery vanilla. it's sweet without being overly so. there's something very elegant about it.

Among the trio of this, pas de chat, and rose adage, this one surprisingly has the most sillage. It’s very much a powdered sugar-y gourmand! Very enjoyable, kind of bright, I like it 👍

I think this is my favorite. The marzipan is strong, delicious and addictive. The butter is yum. The everything is just perfect. A+

Most realistic and delicious cake scent I have ever smelled. It does smell like some small fresh cakes :) mouth watering.

Opens very marzipan-heavy on my skin, with this soft almond note that smells kind of like Play-Doh at first before turning into something sweeter and more edible. After a few minutes it becomes buttercream-y and delicate, though to me it smells more like frangipane filling than an actual cake. The dry down is a smooth gourmand vanilla almond that sits close to the skin and feels warm and comforting without becoming overly sugary. It wears beautifully on my girlfriend, a soft and cozy gourmand that feels like an elegant pastry shop than a loud dessert fragrance.

Initially I struggled to smell Petit Gateau, but I was persistent. Still, I find it subtle, with occasional strong whiffs, and am now enjoying my sample. There is a realistic, sweet bread-y note that manages to just escape having a fried quality, surrounded with powdered sugar. Kind of like what floods the air when opening up a treat from a local bakery out of a brown paper bag. I would say this is a true gourmand scent, opposed to being perfume-y with a dessert adjacent smell. Coquette vibes for sure.

This perfume is nice but it’s hard to smell. It’s so light. Very different from Pas de Chat. This fragrance smells like a vanilla yankee candle that’s being sold in a rustic store. It’s nice but not incredible.

Very realistic, intimate baked good scent. Honey marzipan driven. I wonder how it would be layered with another gourmand?

This was my least favorite of the 3 from Odette Fontaine line. It is a bit overly simplistic and more of a layering fragrance than a stand alone. It reminds me of a less complex Pacific Island Vanilla. If you like the smell of buttery almond cakes and only that this is worth a sample but it is more of a home candle scent to me than a perfume. Pleasant enough but lacking real depth. Edit my husband being the gourmand lover he is really liked this one. It is a nice fragrance for what it is. A simple and casual gourmand. I will wear my sample but it's not something I would buy a full bottle of. I was actually hoping for a more buttery smell but this is very sweet. Edit again.... My husband (wearing this today again 4/18/24) thinks this smells like Drake's coffee cake. I have never eaten one so I will have to take his childhood memory and word. Better projection than the Rose Adage, which of course I like better.

I was very excited to try this... I have to bring my arm to my nose to smell anything. Even then it's extremely faint. I'm so disappointed. I'm getting an almost playdoe sort of smell I think to be coming from the marzipan. I will give it time to maserate and update in a month or so. First impression, I do not care for this.

Pretty hard to smell. You definitely need to overspray. It doesn’t have the greatest longevity. Smells nice. Opens with a blast of coconuty cool whip marzipan cake. Stays like that for the most part. Kind of a doll head base. I do like it, but it doesn’t last long enough for me to buy it. Very sweet but not cloying

Not my thing... It’s way too sweet and has a certain synthetic-ness to it that just ruins the whole thing...the lactonic notes are also quite overwhelming and not in a good way. Petit Gâteau means little cake in French but all I get from it is buttery sweet cream. It’s a little disappointing... It’s a pass for me.

Smells like a vanilla candle. Warm vanilla with honey and almonds. Almost like an almond croissant, but warmer.

Petit Gâteau by Odette Parfum Co. feels like the sweetest little comfort scent 🍰🤍 This is such an easy reach for me : soft, delicate, and beautifully almondy, like true marzipan and buttery cake on warm skin. It has that light vanilla sweetness in the background, with a tiny touch of toasted sugar that keeps it from feeling too simple. The scent stays on the lighter side, but that’s part of its charm: it becomes a gorgeous, sweet skin scent, intimate and cozy. Sillage is very close, and on me it lasts around 3 hours, so it’s not a powerhouse at all. But honestly, that doesn’t bother me: it just makes it feel even more tender, delicious, and easy to wear. 7/10

this is my most worn fragrance of this year by a long way. even in the heat of summer i'll make excuses to wear it, even though its warmth and sweetness is better suited for colder months. this is gentle marzipan and the smell of freshly baked angel food cake wafting down the hallway. to embody an almost syrupy sweetness that's just a touch boozy from the almond, yet still be so gentle and airy... it's a masterpiece. this sits close to the skin so i wouldn't expect a loud scent trail, but i find that this lasts quite a while. a knockout. this will always be part of my collection.

Warm toasted marzipan with a nostalgic plastic type of nuance that reminds me of a Barbie skin or playdoh... even reminds me of the color of Barbie’s skin. Could even be a Barbie sunblock. It’s sweet but it doesn’t smell like an edible gourmand on me, it’s more like a sweet cozy nostalgic treat; and I like it better that way. Sometimes it reminds me a bit of plush suede somehow, but not everytime I wear, hard to explain... it doesn’t smell like suede just reminds me of it, maybe it’s just sweet Barbie skin. 💖 I’m glad it didn’t smell like butter.

Above freezing winter day (warm), and my first time trying this- blind bought with Pas de Chat in the Duo deal. I do love this, but yeah-- that sillage/potency is a real bummer. A warm honey cake- it's delicious. I CAN smell myself, but I like them stronger. :( I will spray the shit out of myself with my 1oz, but after that I'll turn to Bianco Latte for this profile. :( However, it might wear better in spring/summer- I do not live in a hot climate. ;)

I received a 30ml bottle of this for christmas and absolutely adored it. Every time I smell this fragrance it reminds me of the almond cake my mother made me every year for my birthday, making me always feel so happy when I wear it. The warmth from this fragrance also is reminiscent of the glow of the candles on a lit cake. Absolutely divine!

Milky as hell, with a whisper of almond. This is like if someone tried to recreate Hilde Soliani's Orgasmo, but got it so wrong and ended up with absolutely terrible performance. Sillage is non existent and lasting power is minimal - roughly 1 hr on clothes. I am a huge gourmand lover but this is just not it.

reminds me of: freshly-baked personal-sized cakes cooling off in a cottage window, licking your fingers despite your parents telling you not to, sweat rolling down the nape of your crush's neck (try not to stare!), frilly socks and mary janes, taking the elevator up the eiffel tower on a spring day...✨

Almond, butter, vanilla icing...nice sweet notes. There is a slightly plastic note, waxy...then it's gone! Very light scent. Not horrible but it could be a lot better if it didn't have the plastic and candle like undertones...

This smells like what it claims- marzipan, honey, and sweet cake- but it's not particularly good. It smells yeasty, like you have all the ingredients for the gateau but it wasn't baked all the way through.

Delightful! So sweet and comforting. Not too heavy either. I definitely smell the marzipan and creme brulee and really enjoy this. I dont think I need a full size but Im still a big fan!

I so wanted to love this but it dries down to be sour and plasticky on me. I don’t get any of the sweet vanilla I was hoping to find.

Disappointing, as I can barely smell anything. Even putting my nose directly to my wrist, I can barely smell it, even after 6 sprays.

This is too synthetic smelling on the drydown. I am still in search of my pure almond extract white whale fragrance.

Sharp, slightly bitter almond extract on first spray. Dries down to a stale madeleine, not for me.
