Odin is my favourite perfume house. So introverted fragrances! never steretypical or experimental. The secret to me lyies in the ingredients (along carner Barcelona). They pick ingredients from very special places or species which give personality to the apparent simple pyramid.This is such a heavywight oud coloumn, potent and opulent, nevertheless not cloying or overpowering. To my nose this scent is more about blackcurrant and oud rather than cassis and rose. Opening is a very jammy berry, not sweet almost macerated one, pepper and coriander, slightly oriental but with a lot of carachter. Then after half hour within the previous omnipresent notes the flowers start to bloom! I reach more to sambac than rose, maybe because of the berries it comes more out. Not so much the rose. And eventually remains this incredibly creamy and sweet oud with lily of the valley. So relaxing! Not a perfume for all, it could be a touch too sweet for some people. however as usual with Odin it is straight the middle unisex. I love it! so passionate and dark scent, more to the autumnal and evening. You'll get noticed in the best possible way. Sillage is very good and projection is just perfect. Not too little and not too much. Pity the marketing and production of this is basically non-existing but for the lucky ones who have or sample it it's a treat!

I disagree. This is quite beautiful. A soft oud? Outstanding. Jammy current & rose. Earthy oud & cassis.

This is as far from typical rose-oud combo as it could be. First 2 hours it smell mostly as something that isn't listed in scent pyramid at all... Lilac! big bush of strange lilac with black currant berries, cassis liefs, and occasional jasmine flowers. As perfect for ladies as unacceptable for men. Projection and sillage first 2 hours is heavy, first hour maybe even borderline enormous. At 3rd hour lilac-jasmine disappears completely (along with projection and sillage) and creamy and soft oud arrives with hint of rose mile away. At this stage scent is perfectly unisex... Too bad by 4th hour it is skin scent. For mentioned reasons, it is definitely pass for men, but could be great for ladies.

This feels like the platonic ideal of a niche woody-floral; it's a "signature scent" for someone with presence. It's not a quintessential rose oud, but it's a thoughtful balance of floral, woody, sweet, and powdery notes. There's a bit of animalic, but in the most approachable way possible, adding just a touch of warmth. The cassis adds the slightest note of fruity sweetness. It's not groundbreaking or wildly unique, but I can't imagine anything more welcomingly deep and lovely. Unlike most Odin unisex scents which lean quite masculine, it's truly unisex.

I don't like this and I am devastated! On paper, blackcurrant and oud looks like something that would be right up my alley, but I absolutely cannot make Auriel work for me. What's most frustrating is that it's not at all a bad perfume, and intellectually I understand what's going on in this composition and why certain choices were made. However, on the visceral level at which fragrances tend to resonate with us, it's just not doing it for me. I think part of the problem is that one of my favourite fragrances lately has been Prakt by Svensk Parfym, in which the blackcurrant and blackcurrant leaf notes are beautifully executed. Auriel, simply put, does not compare. Rather than the slightly tannic vegetal tartness that's so typical of blackcurrant, what's showcased here is kind of a jammy berry medley. It does make sense in relation to the other notes, to be fair, but it's emphatically not what I wanted. I think the initial disappointment coloured my entire assessment of this fragrance and so I'm disclosing it here. When you first spray it on, the initial impression is a gentle oud buoyed by mixed berry syrup. If you're worried about the dirtier, more animalic facets of oud, don't worry, you will not find them here. This is a fruity, slightly sweet oud that will not run circles around you. This is not to say that it doesn't project, or that it's weak: it does, and it isn't. It's just thoroughly well-mannered. As the perfume settles on your skin, a rich, lightly powdery red rose begins to unfold. It plays nicely with the jammy berries: the rose is enriched by the sweet fruitiness, and reveals some of its more complex facets. I can also detect a floral note that smells like the intersection of lily-of-the-valley and lilac. It brings a dreamy, slightly melancholic quality to the composition that I like. It's not always very distinct from the rose, and tends to smell more like an extension of it, but it's there for sure. The coriander is not very present in the sillage, but you can smell it on the skin. It's lovely in all the right ways: resinous, woody, slightly camphorous, with a citrus tinge. I'm glad it's been included: without the spice, this perfume would be missing something very important. I can't really detect pepper and don't miss it. There's a strong amber note in there as well that I'm surprised does not appear in the note pyramid. In my opinion it's one of the main features of the drydown. It's a sweet, golden amber with honey and slightly earthy facets. The jasmine also drops by quickly at this point, although not in a way that would make it a focal point. In short, Auriel is a complex, high-quality perfume, and for me it was also a huge disappointment. This is at least partly my fault - I try to keep an open mind and have no expectations when I sample something, but we're all human and sometimes I can't help myself. I would try this if you enjoy jammy berries, rose, coriander, amber and softer takes on oud (or even if you're a fan of florientals who's looking to branch out a little): I expect if this describes you, Auriel would quickly become a favourite. It's certainly very good - just not for me.

Cannot find any black currant nor any lily of the valley - probably smashed by heavy wood, pepper and rose. After the hit I've got from the first sniff the scent becomes creamier and more pleasant to me. Surely not an easy scent - which I assume it never suppose to be.

i will agree with the other reviews here that this is not a typical rose & oud combo ... it does lean a little feminine because it dries down sweet, powdery, & ambery rosy, fresh, woody, spicy, then powdery & sweet

Another sticky rose oud combo...earthy too. Pass
