08 Seylon

I was simply not prepared for the stunning beauty that is Seylon. Seylon is a smoky, robust black tea fragrance. It's extremely woody, yet it’s bright enough for a woman to be able to carry it well. I don't detect any spice--only smooth vetiver that smells much like damp black tea leaves, hence the name "Seylon," the variety of black tea grown in Sri Lanka. There is also a mildewy effect that I love, probably from oakmoss. I also find it a but musky. Bitter orange compliments the woods. Unlike many vetiver fragrances, Seylon doesn't become sour. As it dries down and wafts up to my nose, I am reminded of a steamy Japanese spa, the little droplets of steam carrying the scent of teak. An absolute must-try for lovers of black tea, woods and/or a unique vetyver. This tea perfume is not milky. It lasts several hours with a couple sprays.

Seylon from ODIN opens with citrus and a bitter orange which remains throughout. The vetiver comes on after the settling few seconds and it's a slightly smoky earthy texture with a definite hint of nutmeg. When everything settles finally the vetiver becomes very clean and woody with oakmoss and the warmth of benzoin too but with an almost powdery feel. It's a very good interpretation of vetiver nothing jarring or cloying, no intrusive top notes and the drydown only improves the overall smell. ODIN continue to impress me with their repertoire of fragrances, their signature seems to be warmth and balance. I'd wear ODIN 08 Seylon but I'm not crazy about it, if you like scents like Tom Fords Grey vetiver you will like this one.

My second favorite offering from ODIN collection to date. Of all the vetiver based fragrances out there, I believe this one to be the most unique. In the opening I get a very sweet almost aldehydic accord I believe is from the yuzu and wormwood. This exquisite opening is short lived, lasting but mere seconds (much to my dismay). It is quickly replaced by an extremely strong trumpeting of vetiver. To me this is a less vivacious and green vetiver seen in a multitude of fragrances... now more mature, earthy and dried out. Imagine the difference in scent between freshly cut grass and sun dried hay. Elemi and benzoin lend a slight amber note, rounding out the rough edges. (33)

Very nice smoky vetiver.. I get a lot of citrus at the top that quickly fades.. Not picking up much nutmeg but there is a spicy characteristic.. The dry down is soft and somewhat soapy.. While others compare this to grey vetiver.. this reminds me of Bleu Noir by Narciso Rodriguez.. This one is much more smoky.. Longevity and projection could be better.. I do love this but I would rather spend the money on a bottle of Bleu Noir.. one day I might try layering them and see what happens! Rating 8.8/10

Opens with bitter orange and yuzu. quickly turn into spicy aromatic Scent where nutmeg is getting bolder as citrusy notes start fo fade away and finally dries down to smokey vetiver. Gentle and safe. Easy to wear and delicate. I definitely prefer it over TDH. A well blended perfume which gives you a colorful autumn day vibe. 4/5 Age;+25 Fair projection and long lasting. Best performance: autumn days.

Glorious! It smells like a fall evening at the cottage in the woods, with the smell of the dense forest and bonfire smoke. Definitely a more masculine scent, with an utterly perfect composition. I find it quite linear, quickly settling into itself, with a medium sillage and longevity. A must try!

#1149 in my "Tour de Fragrance" This was a pleasant surprise. After trying out decants of "Petrana", "Posala" and "Sunda" I had written off Odin scents. I had a decant of this "Seylon" along with decants of "Roam" and "Semma" sitting in a box and in was no hurry to test them out based on my disappointment with the first three. But this is actually a very good fragrance, though not widely available. Pretty much everyone but Odin New York themselves is out of stock, and like most fragrance houses they charge substantially more for their own scents ($165) than the online retailers do (Around $100 when the retailers have it in stock). Seems most producers do the same with Swiss Arabian being the one exception I've noted. For the record, this is nothing like TF "Grey Vetiver" with it's nasty and ruinously overdone pimento. And while citric, it's less so than TDH, because of the green added by vetiver, moss and wormwood. In fact it's much more like TDH "Vetiver Intense" which I found in a tester for $68. So, while I love this scent. I basically already have everything it offers with the TDH Vetiver and for less. That said, car pool elevator, small office safe. Good for business or pleasure. A warm weather scent. But I think overpriced. So I'd recommend TDH "Vetiver Intense" over this.

A fantastic creation from Odin that should be a "must try" for every male. Even though this is marketed as being "unisex" it is I think far from that and would suit a male more. This woody sweet scent is very high on vetiver, it opened almost herbal and sour from the vetiver and citrus combo and then soon changed to a very sweet woody scent full with nutmeg. I like this very much, I gave my wrist to my significant other and he said that this is a very good scent even though if I would wear this he would have to check for a beard every time we would be in the dark. I think nutmeg is the one to blame as we usually associate nutmeg with male colognes. All in all - a really good one. Try this out.

This is a nice nutmeg-laced vetiver composition. My favorite so far from this house. The blend is very smooth and enticing and does not smell aromachemical at all. The smoky vetiver is very appealing to me. I thought that I smelled cedar initially, but the vetiver definitely comes through as the focus within a couple of minutes. The citrus is very low-key in this fragrance--at least compared to the nutmeg and vetiver. I don't really smell much in the way of oak moss here. The slight sweetness reminds me a bit of the Hermessence vetiver entry. All in all, this is a very likeable creation and one which I would consider adding to my collection. Completely unisex. Nutmeg appreciation is a must.

From tester. The only Odin scent that I think could work for me. It goes on as a lightly smokey vetiver and dries down to something that has an Earl Grey bergamot, black tea vibe. It is a subtle scent for sure that turns to a skin scent quickly, but I thought the longevity was pretty solid with near all-day performance...just low sillage. I see the comparisons to TdH and TFGV and I can't see either of them. Seylon has a totally different and much more natural orange component and the vetiver is darker/smokier than in GV (where I find the vetiver to be fresh and uplifting... Overall, this is really nice and is a good fragrance for men although it could certainly be worn by women.

Seylon is only ok to me. I'm a little disappointed. I expected great things after my Semma experience. From first application until it fades away, Seylon is a clean, light, and fresh laundry scent on me. Huh. Vetiver, benzoin, oakmoss, and a hint of citrus. I agree with those who have mentioned the vintage feel of this fragrance. It's very linear, no surprising developments, and I get almost no spice, smoke, or resin. Longevity and sillage are on the low side. It's pleasant enough but on me it's nothing particularly special or exciting. I definitely get the appeal, but it's not my type of scent and it's not interesting enough on my skin to warrant purchasing a bottle.

Odin 08 is intriguing, subtle and calm. It's refined, very close to skin. It opens with a light breeze of citrus that mingle with the vetiver. As you may expect the vetiver keeps growing and is joined by the oakmoss. It becomes unequivocally woody. It has the vibe of classic masculine perfumes. Odin 08 is not a surprising fragrance, it's easy to wear. Well done, it develops smoothly with no hard edges or cloying notes. The dry down is simply wonderful, a light powdery-woody scent that feels like heaven.

i get a timbuktu vibe. deliciously sweet exotic. as if one were experiencing a vetiver candy. the dry down becomes calm and settles into a warm vetiver embrace. very easy for me to wear. hints of oud for happiness if that were vetiver based. not sure about 'smokey,' rather like an unlit scented candle with a waxiness giving the herbaceous notes a bit of backbone. packs a punch!

Pretty much all vetiver, still don't know why it showed up in an article about black tea.. It's very nice though

On my skin, it opens with a plastick-y orange , and then the vanillic/spicy elemi (the main player), takes the lead. Some vetiver present in the background, and then becomes very powdery in the drydown. Overall an ok/good fragrance, but that ends up being quite sweet, with the vetiver as a supporting note more so than the star. Dior Eau Sauvage Parfum 2017 works better for me in that category (despite it's not one of my favourites). I might update this review later, but as of now, it's just 'meh' in my book. Fans of TdH Eau Tres Fraiche might appreciate the plastic orangey note, though. Colder days, 25+

ooooh such a great smoky vetiver! Very nice take on that note! together with moss and nutmeg this fragrance becomes quite old fashioned in a nostalgic way. Very very elegant and masculine, perfectly balanced and linear! I love it even though I dont think I would use it myself. I dont get the citruses because they are hidden in the vetyver note to my opinion but the resins and wormwood give some balsamic and slightly barbershop vibe to the scent. Noble! I love Odin, I whish they were easier to get ( or maybe not, so we have very intimate and original offerings against mainstream and mass appealing fragrances)

Dry austere cold Vetiver, unlike others such a Roja Dove Vetiver where a softer cushion of warmer spices make the whole experience more tolerable. Seylon is just too sharp and linear to be likable. Nothing from start to finish except hard edged Vetiver. There is no black tea note either as some had come to believe the moniker Seylon related to black tea in the composition. Lastly, for those with sensitive sinuses , Seylon may not be the best choice given its rapacious nature.

Trying this from a sample. It's not different enough from Tom Ford Grey Vetiver to own both, but if I didn't already own GV I would purchase this instead. Odin's take on this style is just slightly darker/smokier and overall more pleasant to my nose. At least from my sample, the citrus is a bit more muted in the dry down. I like it. If I ever finish my bottle of GV, I may have to grab Seylon as a replacement.

The name "Seylon" is intriguing, and oh boy, it doesn't disappoint. It was raining in the night, and now I'm out on the balcony, the morning smells fresh and calm and so does this fragrance. Also is reassuring somehow. Reminds me of Bvlgari's Eau Parfumée au Thé Bleu, but this one has more character and mystery. All good things plays in my head (Nelly Furtado).

تا حد زیادی به گری وتیور تام فورد شباهت داره. با این تفاوت که گری وتیور بوی تمیزتری داره و ادین ۰۸ جوز هندی در بطن وجودیش قابل تشخیصه ------------------ It is almost near scent to Grey Vetiver by Tom Ford, But Grey Vetiver is clean and a little soapy effect, but in Odin 08 you can smell Grey vetiver plus nutmeg in the background...

I thought I spritz my wrist with Seylon not TF Grey Vetiver. Gawd the resemblance is uncanny. TF is louder with a acute earthy opening. Seylon is just a softer version of it. Still good though. Too bad I don't need any Seylon currently. Still have an almost full bottle of TFGV. TF is blended better I think as well.

On my skin it starts off close to Montale's Red Vetyver but Odin 8 is more subtle and somewhat refined and as it settle I get the citrus note but in again a very refined and subtle way. This scent on my skin lasts at least 7-8 hours.

this is a HUUUGE vetiver punch... ...and not much else, which is a pity as a lot of odin's 'fumes are so multi-layered and textured... this starts off with some spiciness, and then becomes a great big green mess. yuck. no thanks...
