AMO#401 Amber

AMO is my first sampling of the house of OK Fine Fragrances. AMO (Amber, Mezcal Rum, Oak) smells of a mix of the eponymous notes, so mission accomplished: sharp, boozy, woody, and a little sweet. There’s a certain acidity to the booziness that’s very enjoyable, a sharpness that actually somehow makes the mix more wearable and prevents it from veering into sweeter territory, almost a certain leatheriness. It’s really more sharp and acidic rather than spicy, also, but there are resins that serve as a great counterpoint to the acidity, though the sharpness is still detectable and enjoyable, despite the presence of benzoin, labdanum, olibanum, and tonka. There’s something about AMO that is very familiar, too, not that it necessarily reminds me of a specific fragrance, but just other scents. It leans slightly masculine but is well-crafted to the point of being unisex. I imagine this scent would be very agreeable among adult men as a non-freshie but could prove interesting for anyone, fascination with Mezcal Rum notwithstanding. It performs decently well but is not outstanding on projection at the onset, though it’s still dense enough near the skin and packs a punch after hours of wearing. After some time, it begins to fade but still has a nice OK Fine Fragrances are sold on their own website and boutiques like Perfumology. AMO (and most fragrances in the line) is priced at $165 for 54ml, $90 for 30ml. Overall, I’m a big fan of AMO and I’d recommend checking it out at Perfumology’s website, where samples are sold. 8 out of 10

Well, after trying 7 of the OK Fine Fragrances offerings, I can honestly say that while I loved all of them for the amazing smells, not one of them lasted past a cripple of hours on me. I am so very sad, because I would have both the Patchoulis right then and there had the lasted, and the Blond Oud was great, too. Bummer. If they ever get the longevity up to something more than a couple of hours, I'll be fully on board!

Woody amber, with an aromatic-spicy olibanum accord. Deep & rich. The aromatic spiciness here is herbal & musky, like a mix of coriander & musk. The amber here is soft & smooth, not sweet nor salty. Really good. I like it better than OK Fine's Smoked Oud. It reminds me of another fragrance but it's just not clicking with the name. Could be Davidoff's Wood Blend but I'm not sure. A cold weather/mature wear. Big "Like"

Burning Amber I get more of burning woods and olibanum, maybe incense with doses of spices. Cinnamon, sage, and nutmeg This is not the usual sweet choco kind of amber, it's more of a rough, incense with hints of sweet rather than over-sweetened but bit common! i could classify it with designer's blends somehow! it will sell good if it's marketed well.
