Chypre Shot

Do you want to smell like slightly sweet aromatic cardamom? No? Then move along. Yes? Read on. This is a long lasting cardamom scent. Typically in other creations this note appears in openings and disappears shortly afterwards. Not here. This is the best fragrance for cardamom lovers. Seductive, not overpowering, noticeable from a distance. It requires a little body heat and is best smelled from at least 8cm to the full range 1m-2m away. Nose right next to skin will not produce the best results. For this reason is would suit Fall/Autumn, Spring and a cooler Summer night. Still waiting for summer to roll by so I can see how well it will work on a truly hot dry or a humid day. This layers extremely well with many other fragrances, in particular gourmand scents will pair up easily, though it's fantastic on its own. I'm not sure if skin chemistry will play a role on how it smells on you, but on me and one other person I've smelled this on it is absolutely divine. I will always have a bottle of this. Having smelled thousands of fragrances, owning over 700 samples and 30 bottles this now takes a spot in my top 5. One of Duchaufour's best creations and the fragrantica score is criminally underrated.

All the reviews seem to be describing a very different fragrance, yet I still cannot find one that resonates with what I experience when I wear this. First of all, I would hesitate to even call this a chypre - it leans more towards an ambery gourmand in my opinion - akin to Kenzo Jungle (absolutely not the same scent, but with a similar spicy, enveloping tendency). The coffee and patchouli are also reminiscent of Intoxicated by Kilian, but made softer and sweeter, perhaps by the addition of cardamom. On my skin, it opens with a beautifully realistic cardamom that diffuses after the first half hour into an amber/authentic coffee combination. I also get a 'menthol' note, from what I'm assuming is the patchouli, more of a tease than a true accord, as I catch whiffs of it here and there, but when I search for it all I can smell is sweet roasted coffee with a touch of warming spices. I do love this fragrance, and while I don't believe it breaks new ground in the chypre category, it's a beautifully cozy scent that brings to mind holiday dinners and good times spent with loved ones. Highly recommend.

An enchanting gourmand chypre, I believe those who love Chypre Palatin (like myself, and also created by Duchaufour) will love this one. Undertones of Mitsouko give it that rich and opulent, chypre-like texture. Chypre Shot is little fizzy, warm like a thick velvet blanket, and smells like a heavily spiced latte with a thick foam cap. Delicious! ETA: I can decant this for those in Canada.

Spicy, jammy and mossy, with a really amazing smoky-gourmand effect provided by the Coffee and Oakmoss duo. Peony is clearly recognizable and ever shifting from "innocent pink flower" to a sultry "rose wine" Be sure NOT to test this perfume on paper, it has to be sprayed on skin to let it bloom.

I m no expert but I get a fair bit of fresh star anise or fennel vibe from it. It's fresh and spicy, to me it smells very close to an Indo/Pak mouth freshener Pan Masala, which has a lot of sweetened fennel and fresh spices. Overall a hearty fragrance, can possibly elevate your mood.

Basically Vanilla Shot minus the Vanilla!!! Blind bought this - Vanilla Shot is one of my top shelf go to’S. Creamy smooth mixed spices with Amber with to me what feels like a soft sweet burnt orange over milky coffee... Killer in performance...

Wonderful neo-classical, semi-gourmand chypre with powerful notes of cardamom and coffee in the heart and some oriental facets in the base. Lasts all day! An excellent choice for chypre-lovers,especially for those who like 'Chypre Palatin'.

Easily one of my favourite Duchaufort creations... the heart is sweet, coffee and peony suggests honeysuckle. Not what I’d expect from a chypre, much closer to a gourmand. Very very impressed!!

Brgamot-Rose/Iris-Pachouli make the structure, but I a sweet liquor of bitter almond and cardamom with violet candies after 10 min all the way till its drydown.

Dark no but primal yes like in a primal forest. I can only applaud that a new (and masterful chypre re is coming up amongst the forest of pink fruity nonsense. This is a truly beautiful creation, forget about commercial items, it’s getting back to high perfumery bases but totally modern and with a twist. It is a green chypre, don’t think Femme or Mitsouko but a green chypre almost a fougere. It’s totally enchanting, complex, deep and somehow playful in the same time. I think it is what the Elfs must have worn in Lord of the Rings. This and Ormonde Jayne Woman. Really Elf fragrances! But there is a BUT . I would like to know if there is not an issue in the formula: this is a 220 Eur fragrance retail; I totally believe that fragrance is an art so you n this sector price and value can be disconnected but it remains something that needs to be fundamentally wearable to exist. Or, despite suspecting this to come in above EDP concentration (look at the trace on the skin) and despite knowing that higher oil concentration means more longevity and less projection, the entire fragrance goes after 1.5 hrs. At 220 Eur it’s a pity for an otherwise beautiful fragrance.

musky, spicy, heady and it lingers... i am a bit of a foe of cardamom generally but i couldn't help but love how this developed over time... as always i love my coffee and wish it was foregrounded more but i love how it was slow... you have to trust this fragrance and i did. i liked it! not for me but that's okay :)

Cardamom & plum-like sweet fruity chypre. Excellent performance. Ultimately not unique, and not the best iteration out there.

A warm spicy chypre that I originally picked up to see how the coffee note was, and disappointingly, I don't get much coffee at all. What I do get is sweet amber, cardamom, and a mossy base with a hint of floral (peony) and patchouli in the background. Overall it's a classic idea with a modern twist (as often is the case with Duchafour) that I think many chypre fans will enjoy. For me, the opening is great and the base is smooth but I'm not a big fan of the heart notes, the pepper feels very sharp and out of place, so the transitional period of the heart notes feels kind of awkward before you get to the smooth amber and moss in the drydown. I also would have loved more coffee in this.

People who describe Olfactive Studio "Chypre Shot" as reminiscent of Kenzo "Jungle L'Elephant" are not that far off. I owned and dislike Kenzo "Jungle L'Elephant." And I own and dislike Chypre Shot. And there definitely are similarities between the two fragrances. Chypre Shot's opening punches off my skin in a raw, green, vegetal & earthy way. For me, I'm certain it's the saffron note that opens the perfume in a pungent & sorta skanky foul way. Fortunately, the perfume's middle phase arrives and I detect a gentle, far-in-the-background floral. There's lots of pepper, zero coffee. The drydown is amber, oak moss, spices (pepper, cardamom). For me, Chypre Shot greatly improves in its drydown phase. But the damage is done. I struggle with the fragrance. It's a pass.

Chypre Shot Olfactive Studio (USD 105, BNIB) Review on December 9, 2025 I am really enjoy Chypre Shot now as it is show case one Bertrand Duchaufour's signature. The Cardamom. The spiciness in this really stay long time a highlight in whole composition. As scent creep to the base the dial ratio of Moss / Labdanum is very enjoyable. Wood bark like intact on skin There was a sweet amber dancing in background along with soft peach lactone. But the spiciness amber is very impressive. This project really long time on my skin. 7-8 hours, quite heavy. very enjoyable. ==== First Imprssion Spicy - amber chypre, hezzzz.. I have hard time call this Chypre too but I can ignore the fact that I perceive complete chypre structure. It unfamiliar because Amber is strong since beginning. It is Cardamom centric Spicy-Woody-Chypre fragrance, twisting an amber note as story teller though certain note in certain time. There was a moment that this is extremely boozy, rum kind of note warm and invigorating. The was an amber when hitting on coffee, kind of reminds me of coffee candy. Sometimes both, it is an coffee whisky experience. It is the note intertwine because of Ambroxan base fragrance. I do enjoy as Cardamom is long lasting on my skin, I wish for kind of older style spicy with modern twist. I think this is a bit too modern but that was fun experience Cardamom spicy. A few more test need but I do enjoy. I am not familiar with this Amber but it is definitely the modern one. I think he use a bit of Ambermax, as it is result in far dry down. He just aim for soft smoky effect. However, where I do doubt the most soft peachy / fruity undertone on soft moss bed The one that so familiar? Mitsuko maybe. What could that be I am wonder.. Is it labdanum hit with peony accord? Yeah but everything is in amber. But it is a fun amber to wear. =Pre-blind buy record== I really enjoy a work from Olfactive Studio, my assumption seems real that this house probably be able to access higher material and connect to great perfumer. Maybe, it is sort of Frederic Malle style but more wearable. Two another blends that I acquire prior to this are perfectly interesting and very wearable. The Citrus in oriental woody base "Still Life" and the apple-vetiver experience from "Flash Back". Chypre Shot comes to my interest a few month back, being coffee fragrance. however due to rendition in unfamiliar note and structure, I drop it and seek other option. Later on, I am very interested in spicy woody/chypre fragrances like "Spice Blend" or "Épices Volées" that load of spice and place on sweet ambery/woody patchouli base kind of thing. Then, Chypre shot comes to my interest again as I both enjoy coffee note and looking for a spicy-woody/chypre. Perfumer : Bertrand Duchaufour is highly praise by his creativity in spicy note. One of my high respectable person in my local fragrance community adore his work for "Neela Vermeire", I am also absolutely enjoy Amouage Jubilation XXV. So that's really a plus. I hope this hit me. Let's bidding on this one.

I am 1.) iffy about strong cardamom notes 2.) not searching for any more coffee perfumes after purchasing my perfect 'one and done' Amore Caffe EDP, and 3.) appreciative but hesitant to wear traditional chypres. This. Is. Freakin. Gorgeous!! Chypre Shot is equal parts romantic, sexy, dark, and mysterious. I just love how this smells on me. It makes me nostalgic for something I never experienced- getting dressed up in eand going out in the 90's - but it's not old-fashioned. I'm snatching up a full bottle next Autumn, that is when this perfume will shine.

So underrated, a truly modern and unique "Chypre". This is something more spicy gourmand; cardamom, coffee, and tea. Spices of cinnamon and slight pepper. A vague refreshing floral that's hard to identify. Sweetened with balsamic materials like vanilla, Peru balsam, labdanum, maybe even a touch of maltol to give a slight fir balsam effect. All this sitting atop a modern Chypre base of patchouli, evernyl, and musks. Wearable and pleasing but at the same time totally unique. A really excellent perfume!

Fruitti chypre An interesting take on chypre with that fruitti resinous herbal notes all together to form a new era of modern chypre. Cardamom, saffron at max are conquering the scene with some bits of coffee & pepper with some hints of over sweetened saffron. Peony and bits of more fruit note of raspberries are there. It's a very interesting take on chypre. As i said before "Duchaufour" now is back in business with a more talent and great creations. Excellent.

Deep, warm, effervescent, spiced, crackling cardamom with a touch of coffee, sweet thickness from the saffron, the labdanum and mossy elements are back staged but they do balance the sort of fresh fizz with that velvety feel of this scent, like most Bertrand Duchaufour creations this too is finely, delicately crafted. Quite unique, stays a long time on skin, mature, cooler weather sophistication in the air.

Gorgeous. Very cool. A bit misleading I’d say. Uses ‘Chypre’ in the title because it has bergamot, oakmoss and Patchouli in it but really is a coffee amber with cardamom and florals. Smells slightly gourmand. Not too earthy. Maybe good for winter and holidays but otherwise not very versatile.
