Flash Back

This niche perfume line was completely inspired by the art of photography. The photographer of this work was Laurent Segretier and the inspiration was the memory, that moment suspended in which we can remember a face, a song, a feeling, etc. The perfumer was the wonderful Olivier Cresp, responsible for numerous hits for Armani, Dior, Givenchy, Kenzo, Cacharel, etc. The fragrance is composed by notes of orange, grapefruit and rhubarb, in the output; in the heart, were added notes of pink pepper and Green Apple of the Granny Smith type. And finally, notes of cedar, vetiver, musks and amber in the base. This is a citrus and fruity perfume, with great presence of Orange and a soft spicy, soon followed. And although is at the top of the olfactory pyramid, the rhubarb has free access to all stages of evolution, with its green and tonic nuances, strolling between the acid and fruity. I couldn't notice the presence of Green Apple, but the heart has a beautiful vetiver, that comes wrapped between the amber and the musk, bringing slightly creamy nuances and, if we insist on smelling, almost medicinal. The sillage is reasonable and the lasting is very good. In my opinion, it would be perfect if had kept the orange aroma for longer. Anyway, I would like to give a tip: who likes the line Un Jardin, by Hermés, will love to meet this creation. Flash Back EDP is a return to happy times.

Unexpectedly lovely ! I'm often wary of vetiver and usually not impressed by Olfactive Studio (love the scents, admire the presentation, hate the poor performance) - but this one's a winner on me, against expectations. Absolutely bristling with sharp, juicy, pink, acid rhubarb notes, really beautifully done, against a sour-yet-light vetiver background without any sedge-reed rankness. These two plants somehow reinforce and improve each other, the rhubarb making the vetiver all clean, crisp and citric rather than dirty-green, and the vetiver helping to really streeeeeeeetch the delights of the rhubarb, which are often shortlived. To me it adds up to a less-sweet, longer-lived, more masculine (but still totally unisex) cousin to Hermes' Eau de Rhubarbe Ecarlate. In other words it's very very good and will be wonderful for summer use. Still a little too fleeting to be perfect, like all Olfactive Studios I've tried - maximum longevity 4h on skin, maybe a couple more on fabric - and overpriced at full retail. But honestly, really genuinely worth a try for citric freshness that's not a cliche, or for rhubarb romancers anywhere. I approached it not expecting much, but my curled lip soon turned into a smile of delight. Give it a chance!

Such a good opening to this fragrance...a wonderfully realized citrus in the shape of sharp grapefruit which is spot on...really natural. Then a perfect orange note and clearly defined from the grapefruit this is juicy and exudes the flavour of a ripe orange and that freshly peeled white stuff on the inside...gorgeous. Oh yeah...I love rhubarb but I don't get it here really...perhaps an unsweetened 'green' rhubarb that's still growing?...Flash back is tart and sharp but I wouldn't describe it as smelling of Rhubarb and I've sampled it a few times now. The drydown is almost a little warm and that could be the amber listed here although its more pink pepper (which is strong) vetiver and musk which work perfectly with the fruit. I have gotten excited about a few citruses recently (that's because I've tried some very good ones.) but as a rule I don't get to enthusiastic about them...Olfactive studios Flash back is worth it though. Great opening, nice dry down not complex but delivers simplicity very well, my only minor criticism is that it doesn't last very well...otherwise I'd buy this.

Reviewing a bottle form 2013. Flash Back was launched in 2013. This is a bright vetiver fragrance by Olfactive Studio an underrated perfume house. Fresh citrus opening mostly grapefruit with some rhubarb folllowed by peppery vetiver wrapped in musk and amber. Beautifully blended by Olivier Cresp. No synthetic notes. It is in the same vetiver family with Encre Noire (2006) and Roja's Elysium (2017). Flash Back is fruitier to start and has the dry black pepper in the drydown but the feel is the same. It is as refined but less complex than Elysium. Quality- excellent 4/5 Unisex -leans masculine for the dry down Performance- very good sillage and longevity 4/5 Excellent fresh vetiver scent which is high quality and versatile- perfect for spring and summer evenings. 8.5/10

This brand doesn’t seem to be well known which is a pity as the two fragrances I have from them (Still Life and this one) are both really nice in my opinion. Natural smelling, silage ok but not enormous (which I like), quite long lasting. Flash Back for me is a perfect mix of grapefruit and vetiver. I get a bit of the rhubarb but the grapefruit note is stronger to my nose. A bit similar to Terre D’Hermes (which I own as well) but I do prefer Flash Back as more natural smelling and the vetiver seems better blended with the citrus/fruity notes. Had I had know this one before wouldn’t have bought TdH.

The name "Flashback" is perfect for this fragrance. It makes me nostalgic for memories I didn't know I had, or even memories I actually don't have. Someone in the comments smartly pointed out that this is what Lalique's Encre Noire Sport wants to be. They're very similar; Flashback just does grapefruit so much better. Other comments have caught the similarity to Terre D'Hermes. I see that too. The composition is exactly the same, but where Terre is warm and orange, Flashback takes a juicy, rhubarb turn. I really like this and for about 70 bucks for a tester, I'll probably pick up a bottle.

Wore this again and came back to do another review because I think this is very underrated. The vetiver is amazing,the citrus too,smells natural and high quality and the mix is just perfect,creating this very clean,joyful but masculine and timeless blend. I can now find the resemblance to Roja Elysium,which I really love. I can see any age wearing this,the vetiver and cedar gives it a classy and mature feel while the citrus,apple and rhubarb brightens it,making it youthful.Could be worn for any occasion during warm weather. Great value too,smells more expensive than it is.

Really love it!My bottle is almost empty,which is very rare in my case:)Beautifully blended summer scent.Sweet,fruity,green...linear,pleasant...if you like Allure pour homme(original,not flankers,1999.(not the same smell,but the similar pleasant fragrance)),you'll love this!I could wear it in any ocasion...so versatile,non offensive...I think any woman will love it in your company.:) I miss longevity so much!!It would be a perfect scent!

This was the first one I have tried from this new brand of perfumes and I must say that it did not disappoint me. This fragrance opens with a flash of tart green rhubarb surrounded by citrus notes and a leafy green aspect. A tangy and slightly green rhubarb mixed with hesperides revives an enveloping childhood smell: that of rhubarb tart. A base note of vetiver and cedar give it woody sensuality.

Fresh, citrusy (grapefruit) vetiver scent. Bright, peppery, w/ a delicious rhubarb note. Drydown welcomes a lovely, aromatic cedar that imparts an involuntary frisson of pleasure. I want to curl up like a cat inside the damp trunk of this cedar tree, inhale deeply & purrrr. A masterful, upscale blend.

Wonderful. This juice is spotless, well-designed and mixed citrus smell mixed with earthy vetiver giving a greater charm of it all. On my skin projection and longevity are average, but I do not mind the juice is divine to me. I classify it thus: Smell: 10/10 Projection: 7/10 Longevity: 7.5/10

Interesting It's Green and dry fragrance. Wonderful,fruity and woody scent. sillage and longevity are moderate. It's a nice rhubarb fragrance. It is a really great spring/summer choice in my collection.

While people on eBay are selling this for 150$+ go to fragrance net. Just picked up a 3.3oz for 60$! Can not beat that.

Smells like Christmas in July. Citrusy, light, and crisp while also dry and woody. Quite nice

A worthy replacement for Roja Elysium Eau Intense!

Rhubarb Elegance... FB starts out w/ a rhubarb punch. It comes out right away smelling exactly like I smell fresh rhubharb at a market. It's very natural. I can smell its unique sweet smell along with the green stalk. This part is NOT appealing to me because the green stalk smell gives FB a vegetable vibe, but thankfully it is short-lived (have to be patient). The rhubharb is so strong that the citrus notes do not become apparent to my nose until after 15 minutes or so. At the 15-30 minute mark the citruses, the apple, and particularly, the vetiver, come aboard. The green stalk smell is no longer. This is when FB finally graduates from being a rhubharb juice into a true fragrance. FB becomes clean, crisp, alluring, and just nice. It's a perfect fragrance for daytime wear. I don't find it appealing for night time wear. It's more of a casual, daytime type of fragrance. The apple note adds a little tanginess and sweetness. The sweetness of the rhubarb still stands, but without the green stalk smell, and the vetiver elevates FB's elegance. In the dry down, I still can smell the rhubarb, but its sweetness is changed by the amber. I don't detect the amber as a solitary note, it's just blended in altering the overall sweetness of the fragrance. I don't detect the musk at all. The vetiver becomes very soft. What is left in the dry down is a lingering, uniform and palatable sweet scent. FB is perfect to wear at the office or in close proximity to other people during the daytime. It won't offend anybody IMO. It is likeable, clean, bright, and easy going. It's totally unisex. 7.5/10 in my opinion. It's not love, but it's a like for me.

I'm a sucker for scents like this one, where I love the opening so much that it keeps me coming back for more, even though I know it only lasts for a little while and the drydown is way less up my alley. Flash Back is a pretty extreme case of this - now that I think of it, and a little overdramatically put, it's a bit like a drug: the first part of the experience is so wonderful and addictive to me that I wilfully ignore the consequences. The addictive part in this case is that vibrant burst of fresh, natural rhubarb and grapefruit that dominantes the first few minutes: really mouthwatering, and so energizing and uplifting! I also love the vetiver in that first stage; it provides a nice contrast to all the crisp fruity notes from the background, without stealing the show. But soon it starts to do just that, and that's when the consequences of my shot of that lovely opening start to make themselves clear: after less than an hour, almost all that's left is vetiver. Not bad, but definitely not as nice as before, and a little too masculine for my own taste. This part doesn't stick around for long either, by the way, but at this point I don't really care one way or the other anymore. So I guess this is just a like for me, taking the average between my love for the opening and my dislike for the drydown. Which means I won't run out for a full bottle, like I was sure I would when I first tried this one, but I'm still adding it to my (decant) wishlist; the pull of that opening is too strong to resist entirely...

Terre de Rhubarbe Already for me this brand is one of the most interresting in the perfum little world. This one is an easy to wear and like, it's obvious since the first notes ... strongly close to Aedes deVenustas during the first seconds and then evolves in the Terre d'Hermès territory. I always prefer the opening of the Aedes which gives you the impression of having the fresh and sweet rhubarb in the mouth. Here the rhubard is more warm and stable on its base of vetiver and cedar. Heart is all about vetiver but with a nice succesion of more acidic citrus notes who maintain affiliation with rhubarb as if the plant growns up naturally, evolves into a tree. All notes seem to remain in the same family -fruit/plant/wood- it is very green and even a moment you think there is something of a potential Terre d'Hermes'vetiver intense flanker (who exists really today and it's really not as good as this one) . Good projection too.

First try: This is... actually exactly what I wanted Encre Noire Sport to be. Starts with a strong bitter bracing grapefruit (my nose refuses to read it as rhubarb, unfortunately). After a couple minutes that calms, and balances out with a somewhat earthy/dirty vetiver. Somewhat similar to the EN vetiver, but even more similar to the Haitian vetiver essential oil I have. And it doesn't have that slight aquatic ("fresh") note ENS has. [Edit: Not similar to original Encre Noire, just to be clear - much much greener, doesn't have that sort of dark sweet licoricey or dark chocolaty note I get from EN, or the endless musky iso e drydown.] I have no idea if I'll wear this around others - surprised to see so many "inoffensive & safe" comments, it has that bitterness, and a little dirt, and realistic vetiver is such an acquired taste. But I might want it for me.

Yeah I mean... it’s really just underwhelming. There’s nothing that really makes this stand out. I suppose I didn’t quite know what to expect. The rhubarb isn’t bright and fun - it’s more of a darker/diluted rhubarb that seems to be heavy with yuzu behind it - and while that sounds bright and fun, it’s just not. I don’t hate it - I paid $60 for this - and that’s about where I’d value it. Maybe less. I don’t see this as being anymore high quality than any other run of the mill scent out there. I suppose it doesn’t smell like floor cleaner - but quality wise, average. So - for $60 I’m just moderately disappointed. Had I paid more, I’d find a way to get rid of it. 6/10 - average - weak

The initial burst is quite energizing and carries a lot of volume, but it dissipates too quickly. I doused myself in Flash Back this morning, and within three hours, it was gone. Overall, this fragrance is bright, clean and refreshing. It smells like a good spring cleaning, like its scraping off the heavier cloying winter scents I've been wearing. But it lacks originality. There are so many lemon-verbena fragrances available, and this one is missing that extra something to set it apart. Definitely an uplifting scent, like a bottle of bright sunshine.

A very nice fruity scent. It's not going to become a staple in my perfume wardrobe, but it is enjoyable, and very refreshing to the nose. On me, it smelled like freshly-cut apple, a little bit of rhubarb, a touch of citrus, and cedar, drying down to a nice if somewhat generic warm wood. The best descriptor I can find for this scent is "sparkly", it's fresh, crisp, optimistic and carefree, without any added sugar. I found it hard not to smile after putting this on. A perfume for these days when you need something to put some spring in your step.

This is just effervescent luminous liquid in a bottle. The top notes are very reminiscent of ABSINTH by Nasomatto. Green - crisp - sharp - sweetness of green Apple rind, little organic bitterness, aromatic with a clever oomph. I adore it. Here in the cold misty climate of Finland I find it incredibly comforting to wear indoors with generous heating. Lasting power is to be questioned. Better to layer with another more anchoring scent. Something like molecule 01 or a sandalwood/musk base could work well. I recommend giving this a try for sure.

YES! finally on fragrantica! I've been looking for this after testing it in a local store on Bucharest recently. It is a really great spring-summer choice in my opinion. the fruity notes are indeed yummy and extra fresh, and it keeps being fresh and lively at the drydown too. It reminds me of aventus in spirit, only with rhubarb instead of pinapple. The only downside is that it didn't last too long on my skin, so one might need to re-apply through the day, but it's worth it. I love it.

I could easily see this being someone's signature fragrance. It has the crispness tartness of biting into a granny smith apple, layered over a sensual woody base. This is one you could wear to the office without offending anyone, but still smell unlike anyone else there. It also wears much closer to the skin so its safer for workplace environments. I think this is one of those fragrances that could be worn in any season, and could be equally lovely day and night.

In just a few words, a very nice rhubarb fragrance. In fact, I like it so much I have ordered more samples, including Ombre Indigo, from Olfactive Studio. I think Flash Back might have a little more depth than CdG's Rhubarb (Sherbet Series), although I like them both. But Flash Back seems to have a bit more personality: the rhubarb, grapefruit, and vetiver seem to blend well together. A new favorite. UPDATE: Too boring to get anymore.

I like this one, but the notes are totally misleading. I do not smell rhubarb and this is definitely not fresh or green perfume. It's dry, reminds me of dried sunflower seeds, some smoke, dry grass and something I can't quite decipher. Very autumny. It's very bizarre and quite unique for me.

Peppery Vetiver that’s rounded out by the citrus, amber and rhubarb. The pepper and rhubarb/Ambre makes this a more robust, more: I AM HERE scent than Vetiver Fatal. But scent fades very quickly. For me, the pepper is a bit prickly and sharp. Overall, I like it, but don’t love it.

I love this citrusy, fresh fragrance. Find it very original, with the burst of freshness at the beginning but what then stays on my skin is this cozy fresch scent that I love. It ́s very different from other citrusy fresh scents that I own.

Good beginning indeed - rhubarb, vetiver, a bit grapefruit and pepper. Soon it is only vetiver.

Light, sparkling wearable. For every day use. Office safe.

Rhubarb schmubarb. After a momentary opening of soapy bramley apple and citrus, Flash Back settles into a blond-woody vetiver scent with a green orange/bigarade finish. It's peppery dry, almost spicy. The three stand-out notes are bitter orange, a warm, freshly-milled cedar and a refined but distinct, smoky vetiver. The other notes listed — grapefruit and rhubarb — are aspects of those three basics though there's a faint wash of vague cooking apple fruitiness over the whole thing. It's also linear, without much progression from the original accord. It reminds me a lot of Terre d'Hermès but Flash Back is smoother, less screechy. I like it. I think it's an improvement on Terre , whose manicured orange note sometimes irritates me. Flash Back is gentler, fuzzier, less monolithic, with more cedar, more smoke and less citrus. Terre fans and lovers of citric, woody vetivers should investigate. It's perfect for spring and early autumn.

I see why people say it reminds them of Elysium or TdH(or a sheet of copypaper). To me this is heavier on the aromatics and vetiver. Mainly vetiver and rhubarb is what I get making it a very woody fragrance. It’s ok to me but I much rather where Elysium since it it has more citrus and freshness. This is like you took the Elysium dna and removed that citrus from it or dialed it back a lot. Glad I sampled this first but it’s not for me, happy for those who enjoy it though!

I think grapefruit just isn’t for me. I love green fragrances, and I love the grassy notes in this one, but the citrus here is way too sharp on me. And the pink pepper takes it over the edge. Panorama by Olfactive Studio is my jam, but this is decidedly not.

I have 99% full bottle (+the box) Im willing to sell/trade. For some reason for my nose it leans feminine on my skin in hot environment. It definitely is a crowd pleaser. I also smell huge resemblance with Roja Elysium.

Citrus on opening. Not unique. I did not get Rhubarb, or anything fruity or vegetal. Clean non distinct Vetiver. Easy clean woody dry down. Mid performance.

"Flash back" is a rather perfunctory ozonic fruit and wood scent; A juicy green apple note and dry, peppery cedar. That's it. It's fresh, clean, crisp, but nothing I haven't smelled a hundred times over already and with poor persistence. Reminded me a lot of "HiM" Hanae Mori, which has different notes, but produces the exact same effect, for less than half the price of "Flash Back". It also lasts longer too.

I recognized the smell but could not put my finger on it. Gomt hit it on the head: it is the smell of copy paper! It is very artificial.

I liked it from a strip, very tangy, but still quite sour rhubarb and grapefruit. However, on my skin it resulted in a chemical cleaner for your home, not a very pleasant surprise at all. i got rid of it. I understand many people like it.

(First Impression) Flashback by Olfactive Studio is Citrus-Fruity-Woody(Vetiver fragrance). And I would classify as classic modern masculine kind of fragrance. I really like the nice citrus opening with merge with fruity element quite fast. The opening really reminds me of Pomelo before its transit to Green Apple kind of thing. The fruity aspect co-stay separately with vetiver side. Vetiver in this has mild earthy aspect in the beginning before transit to Vetiveryl Acetate kind of thing. I think they use both natural Vetiver and Vetiveryl Acetate in this which I kinda like. This could be a perfect daily driver for anyone who likes vetiver but need a take that can use everyday. that fruity / citrus opening put itselfs out of sea of designer side. 8/10 ===== Flash Back Olfactive Studio (USD 70, 2nd - full presentation 90 ml. left) Pre blind-buy record I am blind-buying Flash back due to few factors. First, I wish to own the fragrance from this house for a while, I really like concept of a Fragrance from Photograph. I am photographer myself. I really see how is it translate. Second, this blends my Oliver Cresp, one of my favorite perfumer who know how to make a detail-full fragrance. Third, my respective blogger Bois de Jasmine write a review a while ago. This seems to be a good one. Forth, I am still looking a classic woody-citrus scent you know. The blue fragrance. This one, the pyramid seems just right. I read this and it seems to be vetiver heavy which I don't mind. But Bois de Jasmine mention it is salty vetiver make me curious. But Amouage Beach Hut Woman used this route before. I still have little hope for Citrus and Fruity companion. The tangy Rhubarb, I am little excepting. Hopefully, it can make me a flash back.. to my precious memory.

flash back olvactive به نظرم ضمن اینکه کار بسیاررر ارزنده ای هست یک فلش بکی هم به کارهای شاخص قبلی در دنیای عطر ها داره. در ابتدا که بو میکنین که کاملا سرمست میشینو با یک بویه عجیبو نسبتا جدیدی مواجهین.بوی بسیار فرشو زیبایی که گویا کمی مرکبات رو با یک چیز نات مانند اونم از نوع مرطوبش مخلوط کردن.خیلی خوببببه اولش!! ولی صبر کنین چون بوش تغییر میکنه کمی. اون بوی اولیه کمکم کاسته میشه و بوی چوب مانند اون خیلی قویتر میشه. ولی ابدا اذیت نمیکنه و لذت بخشه. این قسمتش فلش بک به گذشته هاست! وقتی اون لالیک های مشکی معروف رو پاف میکردیم رو یادتونه؟ نت ابتدایی اونو یادتونه؟ اینجا به بعدش کمی یاداور اون بو هست.تکرار میکنم فقط مراحل اولیه بوی لالیک.آنچه مشخص هست بویی از جنس کاملا چوبی رو داریم که خیلی ظریفه اما خیلی جدید نیست. انچه در فلش بک شاخص هست بالانس عالی و حس فرش بودن زیادیست که این عطر تداعی میکند. به جز نتهای اولیه از اون توقع یک عطر خیلی خاص و جدید رو زیاد نداشته باشین پخش بوی اون خیلی خوب اما دوامش کمی ضعیفتره و برای بهار عالیه.

Mostly rhubarb and apple, drying down to nothing but vetiver. The opening is lovely, so juicy. The rhubarb is so crisp and the apple is slighty sweet. It's all super fruity, but in a much nicer way than you often get from fruity frags. Instead of the usual peach/plum/citrus, it's all tangy, rhubarb and sun ripened apple. You can imagine this in a glass full of crushed ice, water droplets running down the sides. Very refreshing. It does lean more to the masculine side of unisex, maybe a little too much for my tastes - it's probably the vetiver that does it. Unfortunately, this does not last long on me at all. ONly around 2-3 hours. Bright, juicy and refreshing, but ultimately too short lived to be full bottle worthy for me.

Basing this off a sample of Flash Back: My immediate thought is that Cresp definitely recycled this exact same DNA for his 'Mercedes Benz Silver,' released a couple of years later in 2017. That one doesn't have nearly the same quality or "love" that you can tell Cresp put into Flash Back, however. Definitely heavier on the ingredients here as well, "Silver" is watery/diluted by comparison. Flash Back is "okay", however, I feel the exact same way about it as I do Mercedes Benz Silver, it's just that: "okay". In terms of the Olfactive Studio lineup I definitely prefer Still Life. 7/10

okayy..... i have a great story with this one...3 years ago spring time i went to this store at a mall with my ex, it was mid day we were really into each other and had just had amazing sex... went to the store and tried many samples of olfactive studios, i liked flashback the best so sprayed this all over the we goty out didnt buy anything and went on a short bike trip to the hills nearby, she kept smelling my hand and we spent the day there sipping coffee and got back in the evening.... good memories and i wanna buy it but im afraid it will remind me of her too much.

The opening 10 minutes of Flashback was not pleasant, and immediately I picked up an acrid, undefinable synthetic note. Dry down was fresher and more distinct; I could easily identify citrus notes as well as rhubarb— a fruity melange perfume. Base was dominated by vetiver. A lot of people are complaining about Flashback and lack of performance, but that’s rarely an issue for me. If I love it—and I’m getting a couple of decent hours with a perfume—it’s usually not a deal breaker. And especially if it smells natural. I like Flashback but I don’t love it.

I knew this reminded me of something, or rather somewhere. Straight up Rue 21 store which smells of inexpensive clothes and deodorant like body spray for the teenager seeking an urban vibe. This is the first time I’m smelling the rhubarb note in any perfume so maybe my expectations were off. Unfortunately don’t get any of the bright citrusy notes I was hoping for. So far very linear and don’t expect it will develop into anything I will be interested in.

What a wonderful mood elevator. The tanginess of grapefruit in tandem with green apple and my soul senses such happiness. The lingering of vetiver and cedar keeps my spirit flying high. It doesn’t last forever but if it did could it be appreciated and would I yearn for it. Perhaps not. An extra spritz a few hours later and ahhhh, mood lifted again.
