Still Life in Rio

Citrusy, spicy, with a sweet and energizing touch. The scent is simply spectacular and addictive. Unisex. The opening is juicy and zesty, driven by yuzu and ginger. These two come through strongly at first, but gradually settle and blend beautifully with the rest of the notes. It never feels artificial or overly sweet, everything smells natural and perfectly balanced. This isn’t a flat or linear fragrance. As it dries down, the bright citrus sparkles fade gently, giving way to a clean, refreshing, slightly spicy vibe. There’s also a subtle hint of rum and coconut that adds a smooth creaminess, eventually settling into a soft personal bubble. For a citrus-based fragrance, the longevity and projection are more than decent, not intense or overpowering, which makes it a great summer choice. It’s versatile, elegant, and easy to wear, one of those scents you don’t need to overthink. Perfect for everyday use, but also for more special occasions. Considering it’s a niche creation with a fresh profile and a simple yet well-balanced structure, it has tons of personality and charm. I truly believe the price-performance ratio is absolutely justified. This is, and will remain, my signature scent for spring and especially summer. 10/10

I have just repurchased Still Life In Rio. I had it several years ago and enjoyed it very much. The current version is very similar to the one released back in 2016; there are some slight differences in the opening, but the essence of this scent is well-preserved. The opening is citrusy-minty-spicy, with lemon, yuzu, ginger, mint and pepper. It is sharp and aromatic, but pleasant and invigorating. After a while, the scent becomes noticeably sweeter as other notes emerge, namely mandarin orange, creamy coconut milk and rum. I don't detect any leather, and I'm not complaining. This scent deserves its own category named "citric gourmand" because it is so delicious - it smells like a lemon cake with coconut sprinkled on top! In comparison to other summery fragrances, this one projects quite strongly in the beginning, and after approximately two hours it mellows down to a skin scent, lasting for another 2-3 hours, which is okay. Some people will certainly complain that Still Life In Rio is more like a cologne than a genuine EDT, however not all perfumes need to be heavy hitters - sometimes we need something mild, pleasant and office-friendly, to keep us feeling refreshed throughout the day.

Summer holidays in the South of Europe, with a delicious cocktail in my hand, on a beach, wearing a white linen flowy dress. That’s the image it flashed in front of my eyes as soon as I’ve smelled Still Life in Rio. Very refreshing, energising and uplifting perfume, more on the feminine side. In the opening I got a very realistic blend of fresh yuzu, mint, lemon, ginger and coconut. I did smelled coconut straight from the beginning. It’s a photorealistic fragrance, with an obvious mass appeal but has its own uniqueness. Even though citrusy, fresh, fruity, spicy scents have been done millions times already by all houses and at all prices, Still Life in Rio has a distinctive twist that I haven’t encountered before in my perfume testing. Goes without saying that Still Life in Rio goes to my to buy list for next summer season. It’s a scent that’s bringing something new to my summer freshies! Update: got a full bottle. It’s so good!

This begs comparison to Creed's VIW as they both mimic a zesty, coconutty cocktail. I'll say this - SLIR is VIW all grown up. It doesn't have quite the pop in the opening that the Creed has, and the yuzu/lemon is less mouthwatering than the delicious lime juice accord in VIW. But it does come across altogether more sophisticated and elegant and really is quite beautiful. It's addictive in that it's more interesting than you might think and much more complex. It also performs decently well, and excellently for a summer scent.Definitely warrants a sample, especially if you liked VIW, but thought it was too juvenile and/or 'beachy'. If VIW was the guy dancing on the beach with his friends, SLIR is the guy in the sea-side exclusive bar, sipping his drink as the sun goes down. Like a lot, potentially bottle-worthy. (dislike/indifferent/like, but not BW/like a lot, potentially BW/love, definitely BW/masterpiece)

I do not get any booziness out of it altough it does smell like a coctail drink in the opening but also has a clean aromatic soapy feel or dryer sheets. This is not a typical fresh aromatic summer type of fragrance, it is unique in its own way. I get creamy fresh lemon, touch of mint and cocunut in the background with light spices. It does not smell like virgin island water to me at all. VIW is more fresh, has more juicy coconut. If you expect blast of coconut, this is not it! The performance is not bad for a summer fragrance. It lasts around 7 hours and has good projection for about 2,5 hours. It does not lean towards feminen nor masculine, perfect unisex fragrance. I would not pay full retail, but buy it if you could find it less than $130. It is certainly a better buy than those popular designer aromatic fragrances.

This is an absolutely perfect summer scent. The citrus is so tart and realistic. I get a tea vibe from it too, it smells like an Arnold Palmer spiked with rum. As a synaesthete, I also love how the color of the juice is the exact color it smells like. This is not a coconutty fragrance! The coconut milk is so subtle and just adds creaminess. I don't get "cleaning product" from this at all. I way prefer this to Still Life. I saw so many reviewers saying they preferred Still Life, so I got two samples and smelled them side by side. This one is sweeter and softer, more complex and more well-rounded with the coconut milk and rum. Still Life is just a spicy citrus to me. It's nice too, but it's less sweet and pulls more masculine on me. It's also just not as fun.

Beautiful; spring/summer staple in my collection. Very high quality, the mint note is very realistic and tamed (along with beautiful high-quality citruses), the coconut is more transparent and airier (not oily like in Creed's VIW, which I also like but they aren't really that close). Just exquisite fragrance from start to finish, very versatile too, although the performance is only good for warmer months. Short range projection (1-2 ft) so office appropriate. Longevity and silage are average for this type of scent (I get 7-8 hours). Not sure why people here are saying this does not last (I had the old and now the new formulation, both are pretty good). Has a bit of an Italian summer cologne vibe but much more complex but easy to wear at the same time.

Smooth citrusy opening. I love this. This is great. In the same style as virgin island water from creed. Not a clone but will give you the same style of fragrance. Summer, beach vibes, vacation, classy and smooth. I can see if you own this there is no need to virgin island water or vice versa Its not mentioned here but the opening has a pimento red pepperish note. It flirts with the nose at first. Then it is more prominent in the dry down around 1 hour in. Its like it switches with the citrus. Once the citrus dies down. It pops up To me its like a mix of virgin island water mixed with a little parfums de nicolai new york

smells like a nice summer holiday in a bottle, easy to wear, unisex, and smells great for its whole duration, the yuzu blends well with spices and green notes to give off an illusion of something between a creamy lemon ice cream/dessert and a lemon cocktail of sorts, when I apply this fragrance it always brightens up my mood and has a very calming side to it, the opening is amongst one of if not my favourite amongst my collection, if you consider dabbling into Olfactive Studio as a brand, I suggest sampling/buying this one first (or the regular still life), amazing scent. 9/10

I just got my decant and I get mostly citrus and spice. It's nice and warm for a citrus in a summery way. Not loud. No fireworks but very comfy to wear. Not tones of projection, but I think it's one of those scents you want some one to lean in and smell. I really really like it but not exactly a FB love yet. I think altaia Yu son would come right Before this on my buy list. I'm also wearing xerjoff 1871 renaissance as a comparison and that is much louder, cooler and polished. Completely different fragrances of course.

It's fresh, it's peppery and playful at the same time. If you are scared to try it because of the comparisons to Virgin Island Water or even Party in the bay and you expect coconut and sugar overdose, don't be. This can't be more different. Here, the creamy coconut plays the second fiddle and only helps to round things up. Still life in Rio is mostly about mouthwatering citruses, spicey pepper, rum and leather. Rather aromatic than tropical. For some it could be a tad too harsh and piercingly sharp, try it first.

I received an almost full bottle of this fragrance in a swap. Although the list of notes might lead you into believing that this is a very original fragrance, actually it’s not. If I should sum it up in a sentence - essentially this is DG Light Blue mixed with Pina Colada and Mojito! Lemon, bergamot, sweet tangerines, coconut, mint and booze. It’s sweet, citric, aromatic, uplifting and just a little tipsy. It’s a typical summer scent, quite enjoyable, although its longevity could’ve been better.

This smells exactley like Manu Chao - Bongo Bong. It has a fabulous summer vibe, with coconut, ginger and rum. Really really unique tropical or more like caribbean scent and it's one of the best fragrance for summer. The pepper's not overwhelming, it gives the scent an exotic spicyness. Imagine a warm coconut beach with many red parrots, you eat a fruit salad and the girl with flower necklace brings you an ice cold margarita. I recommend a full size for summer.

It's such a delight wearing this. It makes my mouth water for a cocktail and now I ache for summer! On me, I get lots of creamy coconut and mandarin, some lemon, then ginger makes it a pinch bitter, and then there's a dash of mint and rum. The end is soft almost like smooth musk or suede, but not dark, dry, or smokey. It sits comfortably close to the skin. I want a full bottle of this so bad, and when my sample is empty I will mourn.

Brazilian Copaiba balm adds body and depth, and a delicious rum accord carries the fragrance long into the night...

I smelled this today for the first time and found it to be a gorgeous summery citrus scent. The yuzu and lemon are fresh and natural and are provided some sting by the mint, ginger, and pepper. I kept going back to this one in the shop and will definitely purchase this on my next trip to the fragrance store (ended up purchasing Los Angeles by Gallivant today...another bright, fruity fragrance).

This screams travel, holiday, adventure, nights out in beach bars with exotic warm wind, drinks, dancing, daytime exploring historical cities... It has something about it, that feels foreign and exciting! I never go for citruses, but this is so original and beautiful and I have to have it! :)

For hot days of Summer. It was one of my first niche fragrances. Many years later it’s still on my top choice for summer. It travel me instantly into a warm country with a cocktail on my hand. It is very chic, a fun fragrance for hot days. I love very much this version instead the og.

This is my signature fragrance. It is suitable for office use, as it has fresh citrus and a bit of spicy scents. 2-3 meters projection and 2-3 hours longevity for me, so this is weak on my skin, but this is the only one fragrance that is acceptable on business.

Pretty smell, I get the citrus perhaps the yuzu is the most dominant and then the mandarin. I think of flowers but it’s not on the pyramid. There’s a nice skin scent which I think is the leather. Will need to update it after wearing a few times!

Fantastic summer fragrance, so natural, bright, fresh, yet it have a personality with the coconut which is really noticeable, adding a touch of creaminess to the not overly sharp citruses, longevity is amazing, projection is average

This niche perfume brand was completely inspired by the art of photography. The photographer of this work was Flávio Veloso and the conceptual image was taken in my hometown - Rio de Janeiro - in one of the most famous tourist spots in the world: the Corcovado. The photographer has managed to capture that special moment of the dawn when the sky is painted by shades of gold. The perfumer was Dora Baghriche-Arnaud, who has already created for L'Artisan Parfumeur, Versace, YSL, etc. and was also responsible for the previous fragrance, which focused on the same theme: Still Life. Still Life in Rio was the first fragrance to open a sub-theme within the perfume line of the house, in which a specific place was chosen as a destination, increasing the creative power of the perfumer. After this creation launched in 2014, the company launched another one, at the beginning of 2018, with destination to New York City: Flash Back in New York. It is also worth repeating an information that few people know and that was told to me by the creator of the brand: as happened with Still Life (2011), one of the great inspirations of this fragrance was the sensation of drinking a caipirinha enjoying the sunset on the Arpoador, Rio de Janeiro. The difference is that in the previous one, the note of yuzu played a primordial role, while in this one, the composition gained notes full of Brazilian style, like the coconut water and the copaiba. The fragrance is composed of notes of yuzu, ginger, lemon, mint and mandarin, in the head; a combo of peppers (black, pink and Jamaican) and coconut water, in the body; rum, copaiba and white leather accord, in the base. While in the original fragrance, the yuzu and the galbanum brought an acidity and an almost bitter content, in this flanker the ginger gains prominence next to the lemon. Once again, the citric content dominates, respecting the creative briefing and the DNA of the previous fragrance. Over time, this citrus phase loses strength and a creamier smell, like moisturizing lotion, arrises. After that, little is revealed, while the mind continues trying to identify the nuances of rum and leather, which could have attributed much more depth and personality to the fragrance, as I have already felt in other perfumes that combine notes of lemon and leather, for example. With regard to Copaiba, the international market may not have much access to this nuance, but for us Brazilians, it is difficult to accept less than what we are accustomed to find in Natura’s fragrances. And here, unfortunately, it is not a very noticeable note. While the earlier fragrance reminded me of Guerlain Homme for a few moments, Still Life in Rio brings glimpses of Armani Code Sport Athlete and L'Eau D'Issey pour Homme Sport, especially in the initial phase. The positive point is the naturalness of the fragrance, which translates the quality of the raw materials used. In addition, it has very good lasting, taking into consideration the volatility of its notes. Both this version and the previous one are great options for those who live in hot places during most part of the year. It may be necessary to reapply in the middle of the day, but it is worth in order to quench the thirst of the skin...and the soul.

So when Olfactive studio was conceptualized i was very excited as they wanted to merge my two passion Photography and perfume's . I have tried almost most of the line and most of them are very unique fragrance wish they lasted little more though and still life in Rio (SLIR)is one of newest from this house . I had own the original still life and just to make it clear SLIR is not a flanker in my view though perfumer are same (Dora Baghriche) and only comparison i can find is both are boozy fun fragrance for summer in mold of Creed VIW or L`Humaniste Frapin . As you spray this perfume you can smell citrus (Lemon), Mint , orange peel with yuzu and its quite a pleasant opening which is very easy on your nose and its quite natural also . This opening will stay for 30 minutes or less and then you will start getting rum with a milky note which i think is coconut and in the backbone you can smell pepper working along which gives it warm base and this turns into quite fun and easy fragrance . This is quite linear fragrance after its dry down and i kept getting whiffs of milky cocktail through out its journey. Its gives me solid 6-8 hours with mild projection and silage .Its quite different summer fragrance and i will not recommend this for office because of bozzyness however its more suited to be used as casual fragrance of going out with you family/friends or sitting on beach with your white linen shirt and colorful shorts. I will recommend folks to give this a try and this capture vibrancy and fun of south american city of Rio.8/10

Still Life in Rio opens up with a bright Yuzu note with a tad bit of ginger. The ginger on my skin is subtle but present. Coconut and hint of black pepper linger in the opening. Think more coconut water rather than raw pulp. The pepper adds a spicy mix to this. The rum is steady as in the back, it doesn't give off a booziness like your smelling rum in a glass. More of a whiff of walking by. Like knowing someone is opening a bottle in the room. In the heart the ginger disappears and the yuzu and coconut/pepper blend/rum blend merry together until it fades down to a peppery/woody base. This will work better in the spring and summer. Either day or night. Casual wearing at best and this can be worn in a work setting. Definitely a vacation scent if you if its up your alley. This was not what I was imagining from this perfume. To me it smelled cheap, the yuzu in here is low quality for the price listed. The ginger addition was great, but I feel as if it could have been amped up for more spice. The coconut didn't really seem to have a place as it was isolated from the scent (if that makes sense). The fragrance wasn't as photorealistic as the brand would like to make it come across. It comes across very cheap and the citrus in here doesn't compare to some of its competitors. If the ingredients in here were higher quality, I could see purchasing this. It might add more nuance to the fragrance. For a summery/beach scent, I would look for other options at a similar or lower price point. I hope this helps you on your journey. Enjoy.

Still Life in Rio Olfactive Studio (85 usd, QTA92533 around 78 ml. left) "Pina Colada.. my most enjoy cocktail comes to mind when I sniff from spray head, this bring me smile I own Still Life, and it is citrus fragrance that I really enjoy.. somehow it leads me to this... I think this is ever so slightly sweeter than original, but it doesn't really matter. Still life is Still life.. It is just slight enjoy the world as it is, laid back, relax and observe the world as it is It's more relax because it is in Rio, this Pina Colada isn't really the top notch either But it smooth and somewhat testier than the Sheraton one because it is full of life as it is" I like both Still Life and Still Life in Rio. (Apart of Pina Colada, It slight reminds me of Allure Homme Sport)

This is named perfectly. It's basically when you don't have a worry in the world. You are debt free and live in a beautiful warm weather climate such as.... Rio of course! I do enjoy this one but it does lean a bit feminine with the coconut note being the strongest. That's coming from a guy that loves Virgin Island Water. I love that one so much that I bought it,sold decants and eventually sold the remains of the bottle. Then I bought it again and did the same thing! I guess tropical scents ain't my thing unless it's Heeley Sel Marin. BTW, I don't get any of the boozy vibe that other reviewers mentioned. Just a fun Summer frag.

So this is what YUZU smells like? Not bad, not bad... but I wish there was a little less coconut. Smells very lemony. I'm not sure all the notes are listed because the Twisted Lily advert said "Jamaican hot peppers", which is the MAIN reason I ordered this sample. The description just says: pepper, black and pink pepper. So is "pepper" the same as "peppers"? Still Life in Rio is warm and spicy, despite the opening citrus. DEFINITELY worth sampling. A new favorite. (And I am very picky!) Reminds me of Chanel's Allure Pour Homme. BUT BE WARNED.............. The opening smells just like lemon Pledge! (furniture polish)

sillage and longevity are abysmal, which is a shame because i think this is a very pretty scent. citrusy, peppery, fresh, and fizzy, this is beautifully zesty and refreshing at first spray, but dries down a little sweet and boozy and indulgent- like a sparkling beach cocktail you ordered at a tiki bar just to wake you up, but it ended up being a tad more loaded than you expected. the sun is warm and shining right on your back, you're getting a bit sleepy, and you doze off for a quick cat-nap in the sunshine...and when you wake up, 45 minutes later, you're sober and it's gone.

I prefer the opening, which smells like a tropical cocktail, fruity sweet and delicious. Past the opening, it changes quite a bit and becomes difficult for me to wear. It becomes less sweet and more sharp... like a bitter citrus? Or a bitter... floral? It's hard for me to describe beyond "perfumey". This is my first time trying a yuzu fragrance so maybe it's the yuzu that I'm not loving. Smells nice, it just becomes tiring to my senses after awhile, and not exactly the cocktail fragrance I was expecting/smelled in the opening. I was hoping it'd smell more drinkable.

The opening is all citrus and leans masculine. When the softer notes surface the scent becomes unisex and a bit more complex and edible. The notes look like an ingredients list to a cocktail but I don't smell like someone spilled their drink on me, that is not the association from the scent at all. I expected to detect the coconut more than what I do, but I trust what they did here because if the coconut was more detectible, this could easily be overly beachy and too escapist to be worn anywhere else but on a rare beach vacation. They kept it fresh!

Based on reviews I was expecting something very similar to Creed VIW but as I smell Still life in Rio it reminds me of Maison Margiela Replica Under the Lemon Trees. More aromatic, niche version of it. Smells like a lemon tea. It's fresh, aromatic and doesn't give "beach vibes" I was hoping for. Don't get me wrong it's a "like" but if you're going for summer, beach, carefree scent, go for VIW. Still life in Rio is pretty good, cosy summer scent. After an hour it sits close to skin and lasts on me 4-5h. Overall 6.5/10

This is more than a citrus-coconut summer cocktail scent! Opens with a nice tart citrus paired with a gorgeous tea-like note and a quiet mandarin, rounding off the spikey hesperidic burst. About 10 minutes in, the citrus mellows out a bit, revealing a soft, woody, balmy undertone with a slight, polite sweetness. Still life in Rio dries down to a soft woody tea with coconut and hay-like undertones. The citrus stays around, keeping the fragrance fresh enough to wear throughout a hot, sunny summer day

A summer cocktail, zesty, bright and fresh. I guessed the notelist as soon as I smelled it. Rum, lime (ok, yuzu and lemon), sugar, mint. A little gingery twist, a sliver of coconut when sprayed on skin. When I first tried it it gave me an instant pang for hot sunshine and bright blue days. Uplifting and delicious. A happy, fun scent. Out of season the coconut can be a little thick but now summer has rolled round again it’s perfect. It needs the temperature to be 22+°C to really take off.

Smells like a mohito rather than a rhum drink, lovely minty, zesty, with a prominent note of lime in the opening (at least to my nose is definitely green lime) and an underlying sweetness reminding of the sugar cane melting in the bottom of the glass...the coconut is faint and watery but gives just enough creaminess to let the scent linger a bit deeper. Unfortunately the lasting power is not there, but the scent is absolutely gorgeous, beachy caribbean summer in a bottle!

This is a little too masculine for my blood! Lol. I gave it to my dad for Father's day and he loved it! How to describe it: OF's SLIR is a coconut watery, boozy, spicy (peppery), slightly sweet scent. I like some stronger fragrances like TF ombre leather and Noir Extreme, and Penhaligon's Juniper Sling (love that one!) but SLIR gives that summer vacation, floral button down, linen shorts, sandals, shades, fedora, cigar, cool breeze, manly vibe. IMO!

how can you smell citrus tea? It's a very realistic and boozy caipirinha! super happy fragrance, yuzu, ginger and brown sugar. Dont smell any actual coconut, but i guess that what gives creaminess and depth to this fragrance. I love it because its one of those scents which you will get wafts during the day of yourself. Invigorating and a bit nostalgic as well. Great projection and scent trail! Very satisfied with this!

I really like the perfume itself and the base notes are amazing for summer, HOWEVER, its sillage and longevity are a joke. After 5 minutes of spraying it (6 sprays!), my partner said he can't smell me at all, unless his nose touches my neck. After 1 hour I could not smell the perfume AT ALL. Such a shame, really loved the smell.

At first spray I get a blast of warm ginger, spicy pepper, zesty lemon and juicy yuzu/mandarin. Invigorating at first then as it dries down there is an inviting warmth and the lemon lingers, I would definitely describe this as easy to wear. It is pleasant to wear but I find myself wishing the top notes would hang around longer.

This is pretty nice! Seems to perform quite strongly for the first couple of hours but then fades out slowly. Overall, i'd say the performance is more than acceptable for a summer scent. Has a similar scent character to L'humaniste but a little more creamier. I don't get that much coconut though.

Charming scent bursting with personality. However, on my skin it's only a quickie, gone in a few hours without trace. Like a lovely afternoon chilling by the pool with a cocktail. Feels great but ends faster than you'd think. 6/10 - sweet little nothing

I'm not normally big on citrus frags, but this one is really winning me over. The spiciness of pepper and a bit of creamy coconut round this one out to a lovely summer scent.

Pretty much the same as Still Life but with a little coconut. Disappointing, worth nowhere near the price tag this house asks for. However, it's appealing, and fresh.

To me, it is a cold sweet tea with lemonade. I am not a citrus lover but I really enjoy this fragrance.
