Vanilla Shot

Aldehydic vanilla with a bit of sweetness from caramel, bit of rose, bit of spice, very warm and slightly resinous with some dried fruits touches. An amalgam of notes that don’t create something appealing to me. The opening is all over the place... It’s a totally different vanilla perfume that I am used to, so maybe that’s why. Sometimes perfumes grow on me, this one isn’t instant love. Like all Olfactive Studio’s perfumes I have tried so far, not what I expected by reading the pyramid notes. Most of them were absolutes loves and gone to my to buy list, or already bought some. Vanilla Shot is a tricky one for me. I don’t love it, I like, but I am not sure I want to add this to my collection. It has something intriguing and interesting but it doesn’t draw me in instantly. The dry down, after the first hour, is where it’s more like my taste. Becomes more ambery, resinous, very warm, still not sweet, but more mass appealing. Very long lasting on skin, so it’s well worth the money if it’s something you love. It’s not a sweet vanilla and has aldehydes in composition, which I think it’s ruining it for me. I think I need to give my sample another go because as a first impression it’s not doing much for me. Will update when that happens. First one from the samples from Olfactive Studio that it’s a bit of meh... Edit : I have worn it for a second day and it’s definitely growing on me. Compared to first time wearing, I’d say Vanilla Shot went from it’s an ok scent to a like. As a conclusion, not something I will rush to get a full bottle. But it’s surely an interesting one with good performance. Vanilla with a twist.

Above average vanilla scent! Just when you think you've tried every variation of a Vanilla scent... Listed notes are spot on as is the vote pyramid though caramel should be voted up. I also swear orange is in there. A bitter amber over vanilla. Reminds me of the chemicals when you develope your own film and print photos like in the good old days from negatives! A gorgeous burst on the initial spray of dried fruits (comes across for 5 - 10 minutes as fresh bitter orange zest) dries down to a mostly prominent smooth myrrh helped by largely vanilla that is restrained by a not too strong caramel and the sweetness slightly reigned in by a pinch of coriander.The benzoin, opponax etc giving a slightly rich deep warmth and yet the aldehydes giving an airy freshness like it was all freshly mixed for you !!!! After a few hours it gives me a tea vibe even... Unique but not earth shattering, the high price (too high) somewhat off set by the large bottle and beautiful presentation - With 160 bottles in my collection it is a worthy addition - would I buy it again to maintain my collection with it? Yes, but not at full price. Reminds me of a more complicated more powerful version of Pierre Guillame Myrrhiad. Sorry @Teaparty but it can only be described as a Vanilla scent! EDIT: Strongest vanilla scent I have EVER tried!!!!!! Hours later it still punches wayyyyyyyyyy across the room!!!! EDIT: Hmm, one of the strongest scents ever - up there with Xerjoff and Parfum De Marly so hmm yeah - actually I'm now thinking worth top dollar if you like gourmand scents and vanilla this is a must have or try...

OK, so I had to look up 'what does benzoin smell like' - I'm ready now. This for me starts off with a citrus dried fruits aldehyde kick. Pleasant enough, then the heavy rose vanilla explodes. And that's it. Oh and benzoin; a sharply gourmand and balsamic vanilla. Not the best of reviews, but I'm just trying to be honest with what I can smell BECAUSE . . . my untrained nose is having difficulty. There's smells within that rose scented vanilla that I can't pick out. It's one of those fascinating fragrances that you can't stop sniffing. For the past couple of days I've had this on my wrists and neck and it's been driving me insane, in a good sniffy sniff sniff way. Definitely a high 8/10, certainly more than just a like. Long lasting with heavy sillage. Not a blind buy at that high price but certainly grab a sample if you can.

I am on day two wearing this and find it to be a lovely myrrh vanilla scent, especially the dry down. Initially I was not wooed by this, as even with a few sprays on skin and clothes I thought it was weak and gave me a fizzy baking soda & vanilla extract vibe. I few days later I am really enjoying this. It is not weak- it hums along confidently, definitely does not shout, and lasts around 8 hours. Sprays in the early afternoon are there in the evening. Another spray in the evening is still there in the morning. A truly beautiful comforting scent on a cool fall day with colorful leaves all around. Note, if you do not care for myrrh, try and get a sample. I blind bought this being a fan of myrrh. Additionally I really enjoy a few other B Duchaufour creations, and wanted to try something from this brand. Glad I did.

I’ve had to update this review for one of my top 10 perfumes. Wearing it again after 6 months I can’t believe this still hasn’t become cult like in its popularity. Simplifying what it smells like today - beyond the orange cognac opening which quickly fades a creamy slightly balsamic soft leather graduating to a slightly burnt earthy vanilla that is linear and goes on for 20-48 hours. This is inspite of the note table. I can pick some but it’s so well blended it may as well be a technical note in it’s entirety. One of the Most potent I own and worth a premium. If you like vanilla then try this - it flits between gourmand, leather, vanilla and spice like no other....

Very peppery at first spray, smells quite masculine. Maybe its the saffron? This lasts for a long time- Im thinking its a bit too masculine for me but it would be great on a man. Very potent and long lasting. Edit: I have to add here that spraying it on clothing or fabric instead of my skin means the world of difference with this fragrance. The Harsh pepper does not show up this way and the vanilla, benzoin, and caramel really shine through. I love it this way. Still potent but absolutely delectable.

Vanilla is without a doubt my favorite in this new trio of extract. It's the most surprising with its citrus and herbal departure, like an infusion of verbena and bitter orange peel, and a balsamic, creamy, gently animal base, without a gram of sugar. A very strong safran note makes me think about Safran Nobile (Libertin Louison) mixed with Shalimar. A delight

A blind buy for me. I love love how it smells on me. Vanilla, spice and warmth. It is a spicy cream soda?! its unique, Ive had a couple people lean into smell me its so good. It has good longevity, and good sillage but price point is a bit high

Spicy, fruity, Christmassy compote with a vanilla base and a little BR540 thing going on with the saffron (just the lightest touch). The saffron - oh, the saffron. It's strong! This really needs warm and sweaty skin to come alive, and I agree that it steadily hums for the entire 8h+ wear for me. The scent is unisex leaning masculine IMO and could fall in line with the Parfums de Marly gang (Oajan, Layton, Herod, etc.). I didn't expect this from one of my favourite perfumers (a gourmand from Big Bert?!) but I will continue wearing this scent until I can understand it properly.

Lovely. Not one of the dry dark vanillas and not a sweet dessert like gourmand. Spicy, mysterious, warm and sophisticated. Makes pictures of flying carpets, brass chests full of spices, and trading caravans along the silk road enter my head. The spices are well blended and there’s nothing that overwhelms in this, it’s easy to wear and user friendly. Unisex. Perfect for fall and winter.

A sweet, spiced, and amber-warmed classic vanilla creation. The nostalgic bottle with a touch of vintage perfectly captures the essence of this fragrance, like an old cashmere luxury shawl pulled from the wardrobe, fragrant with the beauty of the past. It’s a scent that feels slightly weathered yet still perceptible, lingering close to the skin for a long time, intimately close.

I've been hoping to expand my current go-to fragrances, most of which are gourmand, vanilla-centric concoctions. I'm slowly "trying" to add vanilla based fragrances that include "other" comforting, soothing, gourmand-centered notes. I like to apply relaxing fragrances at nighttime because I find the fragrances help me sleep...it's aromatherapy-like. So, when I first applied Vanilla Shot, I LOVED the fragrance. While intense, the opening saffron, coriander and aldehydic notes remain just below the level of becoming screechy, or offensive. Within 10-15 minutes, the opening gave way to uncomplicated, rather linear, benzoin-fruit notes with wisps of rose. Drydown is full-on benzoin and myrrh. As others have said, there are very few vanilla notes in this fragrance, sadly. The base notes remain straight-on myrrh with remnants of saffron and coriander, a bit of young, green-ish rose. This fragrance is sharp and exceptionally spicy. The dry-down is perpetual spiciness. To my nose and on my skin, this fragrance wears extremely masculine. Several years back when I was into my incense-smoky-woody-heady-resinous-floral-musky unisex vibe, I would have liked this stuff. Today not so much.

I can’t smell a thing. I have Vanilla Shot on one arm, Iris Shot on the other. Iris Shot is a strong like, but 3 sprays of Vanilla Shot give me ... nothing. Certainly no vanilla. Big pass. EDIT after 2 hours it smells warm and cozy, still no vanilla though, just a run of the mill spicy ambery thingie. *this is my opinion, on my skin and to my nose.

An inventive and captivating combination of top notes. I ordered a decant based on the hype. It's a very interesting vanilla freshie, but ultimately not my style.

Another spicy, myrrh-dominate fragrance for me. This leans masculine on me and extremely strong. One shot of Vanilla Shot (see what I did there) was all that I needed. I did not get any vanilla from this at all. It reminds me of Quando rapita in estasi by Filippo Sorcinelli. It is probably just the incense vibe as the notes do not match at all.

Yeah...ok so I’m not liking this as it’s way too powdery. Teaparty is right about the saffron. Vexedromance hit it right! It’s like walking into a metaphysical store...with saffron. Lol. Sorry not for me!

This smells exactly like children’s toothpaste to me (the weird not quite minty but instead artificial and sweet kind of scent) and then turns to a fizzy bath bomb.

If Rose Shot hadn't been released a year after this, I would have thought that they called this Vanilla Shot because the name Rose Shot was already taken. What happened here?! Where's the vanilla? All the people who say this reminds them of Tobacco Vanille, Ivory Route and Slow Dance are obviously joking, right? All I smell is rose, rose and more rose, with a dash of aldehydes.

(First Impression) This one go very amber-heavy on my skin feel like an syrup fragrance (The new way amber) Merge with Sour n Sweet and soft rose, it is almost give impression of Rose / Cherry / Peach candy hybrid. Thankfully, there is a texture to the amber that feel like dust. I think that is myrrh. Give a texture to the fragrance. Yeah.. the vanilla is no where to be found. But it kind of also there but it just overshadow by the rest of sweetness strongly. It kinds of.. Vanilla Diorama by Dior or Bird of Venus - kind of vibe. The amber feel. Not bad but not really wins my heart as first impression. Gotta be with you a few more time. ===== Edit 1 on Febary 27, 2025 The vanilla myrrh here reminds me of his another work Jubilation 25 Man, it leans more Modern interpretation. That one go herbal and boozy and strong old way amber. I think I will do full wear tomorrow. ***** Vanilla Shot, Olfactive Studio. (Full Review, unknown review date) At a first glance, I don’t really enjoy it. It gives a meh modern fragrance vibe, kind of whatever. However, at 2 -3 attempts with fragrance. I found this is an interesting take (maybe unique) of Vanilla scent. It is Incensy-Vanilla. But not in the wheel house of Guerlain or Eau Duelle. or Penhaligon’s Authur (the dragon head) but it is kind of antique-like orange peppery vanilla. As open is Aldehylic before Orange Amber Syrup accord gradually build. It still reminds me of a fragrance below, Vanilla Diorama. But the turn would be when myrrh and Opoponax, the textured dusty amber. Gradually build up and it becomes Dusty sweet vanilla, with incense quality. It kind of warm, cozy and airy linger around you. Like a, Hot Orange Vanilla Smoke? As it stay longer on my skin. It becomes less sweet and move to dusty amber. With soft woody ambient. Until it leave a nuance of sweet powdery in amber manner scent onl my skin. It is unique take, as normally vanilla and incense are integrate to something cohesive more than a contrast, like incense in an amber and it is really fun to wear. If I may comment, it is not familiar olfactive and I can’t see this as signature scent. It kinds of a fun scent to wear on occasion. When you kind of board or Chirstmas. And I don’t necessary see someone should need this as a full bottle apart from Collector. It is not really vesitile and it is more a casual scent than something you put in coporation or formal. You could, if we talk about how scent perform, it is not annoying. TL:DR, an intersting take on Vanilla being Vanilla, Orange - soft Incense dredge. Powdery and fun to wear but lacks versatility. ===== Update 1 : Dec 20, 2025 Vanilla Shot concept is actually idea of Masculine fragrance from older perfumery. Opoponex, was always something provide kind of unique powdery texture. It is dusty, textured feel like dust, and make some of your sense tickling. Almost like, is it old or is it new? The material raise a question in my mind often. Almost as much as Myrrh. The best way to perhaps, explain Opoponex effect in formula. that is it feel You walk out from someplace that old, archival or ancient. A Traditional Pharmacy, or the Library, certain "dusty" feel is the best way to describe the tone of Opoponex I notice. I trust this as I recently explore "Opoponex" from Santa Maria Novella, one of the most oldest in Library of Santa Maria Novella. Hence, I believe that "Vanilla Shot" is an idea using Traditional Opoponex as baseline of this cologne. Vanilla Shot, adjust as per modern standard, using a lot of new way amber and sweet / boozy kind of experience serve modern nose who into "Vanilla, Rummy, Cozy" kind of Gourmand scent. It is good-non-the-less. That Finally I come to realize, vanilla shot is kind of hang in there between old way and modern world. I don't wear Vanilla so often now, I love Carnation and Incense. But perhaps, occasional. You know the festive - I still love to enjoy. The boozy vanilla scent anyway. And perhaps, I wear this comfortably. As my preference. I would say, as of now the first 2-3 hours is a bit tight for me. (But well, I leans to older perfume for a big while) so you may not notice. The far dry down, when green vanilla sweetness comes to play with Opoponex. Well, Happy little Christmas. (End of Assessment) =====

Vanilla Shot is an oriental incense. Opens with a dry, spicy melage of dried fruits, incense resinoid, and a haze of ginger. The dried fruits, for just a moment hold their traditional ambrosial nuance, but are quickly dominated by the myrrh and spices—which have an abrasive potpourri essence about them—with the body of an old school ginger beer. It's something very reminiscent of walking into a witchcraft or metaphysical store, with the heady abrasive smell of incense resins that hit you as soon as you step in. This is probably the least offensive smelling of all the Olfactive Studio fragrances that I've sampled. But if you get up too close, even this one presents you with a crude nuance. I really don't sense much vanilla here at all. I would imagine the photo for this entry would be something like what they did with the vanilla instead of putting it in the fragrance. Woe, the terrible things that people do, and think to appeal to others with, or justify by saying that it was done in the name of art. Such things should never be tainted with unholy aspects—that ruin the sanctity of all that is pure and true—so that there is no light left to shine upon the blessed name of Art.
