Osafume

I am addicted to the smell of anise and black licorice. I love Lolita Lempicka, but I wanted a perfume where the anise is less obscured by the other notes. The anise is definitely more prominent in this composition. I want to say that this satisfies my craving, but the truth is this is so delicious it makes me want more. When I’m wearing it I’m tempted to ravenously devour my arm off. I’m afraid wearing this makes me so hungry for anise cupcakes that it could be dangerous on a diet. I find powdery scents very comforting, especially powdery vanilla scents, and have recently discovered that I love heliotrope; it’s so soft, lovely, and sweet. Over all, Osafume smells innocent and cute. I could see a scented doll smelling like this. I haven’t tried this in the heat, but a storm was moving in today, it really brought out the lovely ethereal feeling this perfume has. I agree with the reviewer that said despite it smelling very gourmand, it is airy and fresh. It lasts decently. I can still smell it as a skin scent after 8 hours. The sillage is decent too. Someone sitting across from you can smell you, which is really as far as I’d ever want it to go. I’ve really started being picky about which scents I find full bottle worthy, but this is one I absolutely must have. I would highly recommend trying this to lovers of anise and high quality powdery vanilla scents.

What a fantastic fragrance! Initially I am reminded of my bottle of the now discontinued Krizia (the white conical pyramid). But Osfume is instantly more appealing in its naturalness. A spiced white chocolate accord is what I get, cleverly composed with the creamy nuttiness of heliotrope and sweetness of dry vanilla. The star anise lends an earthy warmth and gentle piquancy, while the anise is softly herbal and bright--spice vs herbs; bitter vs sweet; earth vs air; warm vs cool. Lots of counterbalances here that give this fragrance a gentle energy. The magnolia offers a floral plushness and feminine elegance, while musk envelops the wearer in snuggly delight. Clean, delicious, natural, sensual. Incredibly versatile--I can't imagine a situation where this beautiful scent would be unwelcome.

Upon first applying this one it definitely makes itself known as a very licorice/anise fragrance but actually not as licorice heavy as i thought! I also get a weird melon note in the opening but that goes away almost immediately. The dry down reveals this gorgeoussss hazy vanilla, i saw someone describe it as “tv static vanilla” and i would say that is accurate. It also does have a subtle, slightly cold, herby note in there! After a while it becomes this perfect powdery, hazy vanilla, nutty, anisy smell with just a touch of that floral note that just works soo well. Kind of reminds me of yesterday haze from imaginary authors! Overall this is a really well made fragrance, its slightly unusual, complex and perfect for me!! Just dreamy y’all

We have another keeper in our box of generous test samples from Olympic Orchids. Osafume is a lovely, unusual scent for those of us who like licorice and anise. The Anise is strong in this one, but it's a floral Anise, not a heavy dark licorice. The flower notes are all there, even 2 hours after applying; but they stay in the background and let the Anise shine through. This seems to be a linear fragrance. After the first five minutes, when the alcohol has dried and it starts to warm on your skin, the scent grows and becomes warmer, too; but two hours later it's the same scent, lovely and sweet, soft and delicate but still definitely present. I like this very much and will be buying a full bottle of it.

Delicious! A beautiful anise/vanilla/nutty magnolia and light airy orchid, with a lovely musky dry-down, and a gorgeous creamy almost chocolate smell. Yes, like white chocolate - rich and sweet. It's beautiful. A lovely sweet fresh floral, with a silky soft texture. Really beautiful; feminine, elegant and delicate, yet it's strong and very smooth, and quite long lasting really; about 8 hours, before I need to top it up, which is lovely, beginning again with a lovely burst of anise and heliotrope. I love it - and get a lot of compliments from people who say I smell good enough to eat! I agree!! It is completely delectable. A wonderful beautiful perfume!! And I adore the bottle!!

This is monumentally fantastic. Apres L'Ondee, L'Heure Bleue, Soir de Paris, Oscar, Aimez-Moi, and now Osafume. This is an extremely beautiful creamy floral fragrance. I recognize it as very sweet but perfectly balanced with a clear transparent floral vibe. It has the feel of cashmere. It isn't particularly loud nor too intimate and its longevity is perfect. Its evolution is slow and beautiful from the delightful anise pastry top to the beautifully smooth woody vanilla base. The one thing this fragrance has on all the others is that it manages to remain sexy. This fragrance is as inviting as your partner's bare skin on a winter morning.

this is crazy-good stuff if you are a liquorice fan, it reminds me so much of black sambuca liquer. It has a really strong almost spicy anise/licorice beginning which only slightly softens into a little more sweetness with the vanilla and heliotrope. I love that this is such a strong vibrant perfume. After sampling I immediately bought a full bottle! I have the majority of Ellen's pefumes either in small samples or full bottles, this is right up there at the top of my favourites. She makes great stuff!! :-)

Osafume's complexity exceeds my vocabulary & knowledge lol. This is a lovely and mysterious licorice scent- & though one I wear rarely it is always with much delight. Moody, cold, androgynous. Wonderful for intimate evenings in colder months. I have been asked about this fragrance in public exclusively once. His expression suggested he hadn't made his mind up whether he liked it or not, though he did write down the name & thank me.

This is the best heliotrope scent I have ever worn. It is almost identical to the scent of the flower. Unbelievable. Where have you been all my life? :) I hope it will be never discontinued.

Love it. Sweet and strong, but also airy and fresh. Perfectly balanced, very feminine.

Thick black latex gloves, star/anise crushed with slow force. Powder snow (and I mean powder) twinkles to the ground in the moonlight. This is a fantasy-like licorice, evoking the word "simulated" rather than "synthetic." After sitting by a campfire for hours and sleeping, this still left a pleasant clean plastic smell on me, very doll-like. Not sure if I'll get a full bottle of this but it's up there with my other favorites from this house (African Orchid, Woodcut, Tropic of Capricorn, Night Flyer).

This is my first time wearing a perfume. As a kid, I'd wait for the mailman to bring magazine perfume samples to just smell. With one spray of Osafume in my elbow, I've smelt anise seed, latex, and magnolia in the background for a few hours now. I'm masculine leaning, and this contrasts with that. It's pleasant, I'm looking forward to wearing this in public on a date with friends, but not at work or serious business, because I find it intoxicating.

the opening smells exactly like a mixture between the flavored latex gloves that my pediatric dentist would wear, complete with a wisp of icy nitrous oxide. after a few moments on the skin it turns into a gentle floral anise backed up by lightly sugared heliotrope and vanilla. hits in the back of the throat. it has a very distinct "coldness" to it like a few other reviewers mentioned. leans feminine.

Obvious strong anis but mellowed with the softness of the heliotrope and vanilla. I wore this before looking at notes and it came across to me like a vanilla-absinthe feel in that is more natural and foody than something synthetic anis feeling like Lempicka. Pretty good, although I'm on the fence of whether I'd get more after this sample has gone. Maybe.

Slightly rubbery, floral anise over a soft cloud of vanilla, ice cold and ethereal. I wish the rubber association my nose has with this anise combination wasn’t so prominent, but goodness I still think I love this? It’s sweet and wistful and smells like cold dreams that have been lost to time but can still be visited in the depths of slumber.

Floral black licorice with a tad of sweetness. The opening has a very strong anise going on. Its essence smells more like a natural oil than a perfume. It gets to the drydown quite fast, and as things clam down you notice the flowers a lot more. They give this perfume a nice feminine edge. The black licorice becomes a nice gentle anis too! As others have mentioned, it has this "cold" property to it. It retains the same freshiness you'd get when you drink cold water after you chewed on mint gum from a while, but only slightly so. Throughout all of this you sense an incredibly feint sweetness that's from the vanilla too. Not huge on black licorice so not for me, though I can see other people loving this.

Rubbery with a sort of rot to it. I instantly got aging bananas and latex gloves. I can’t make my mind up on it. It’s honestly gross

I get star anise crushed by rubber tires. The tires then roll away and it’s just a light black licorice. It’s fine, but not for me.

liquorish, floral, mint, vanilla and latex. A bizarre combination that actually works.

The anise and star anise are, at first, quite intense on my skin but evolve nicely into a light but still rich blend of magnolia, anise and vanilla. I have smelled this orchid and can understand where Ellen Covey is coming from in her interpretation of the orchid's scent. "Osafume" relays the impression of the same light, airiness of the original bloom. The vanilla aspect (from both the heliotrope and the vanilla) does tend to weigh it down a bit, but the anise and magnolia keep the fragrance light. I like the way the perfume seems to be almost polar in nature, alternating on my skin from the richer vanilla, heliotrope and musk blend to the lighter anise, star anise and magnolia aspect.

This stuff is bizarre and tbh creeped me out a little. It reminds me a bit of chewing gum that is both minty and fruity, but particularly rubbery. There's something about it that feels cold, as if it isn't really supposed to. Very complex. Osafume isn't bad smelling as much as peculiar, you feel compelled to keep sniffing, but I think the white musk is making it smell more like a place than a person, as it tends to for me. An eerie place. I don't really see using my sample unless maybe to watch Killer Klowns From Outer Space.

Very feminine and sweet. Really sweet. I can't put my finger on what this reminds me of.... I get a feeling of something like white chocolate, but not quite. Anyway, it smells like something I would love to eat, but maybe not wear. That's just a personal preference though because I don't usually like gourmand fragrances. UPDATE: trying this again and this time it's not sweet at all, but spicy and a little soapy. I'm still not a big fan, but wierd how it's completely different the second time around.

Osafume opens with something like coconut suntan lotion and quickly turns into a sort of pale anise candy pastille thing. To me, the anise is a little stomach-turning where it intersects with the fatty coconutty note, but thereafter it’s crisp, cool, and even pretty. There’s a hazy fuzziness to the texture here. We’re definitely in the Dainty Zone. I’m not a huge anise fan, and Osafume doesn’t win me over, but there’s nothing really wrong with it.

248 This opened as a lightly sweet melon anise scent . Then the melon went away and the dry down was a sweet plastic vanilla anise. 5/10-nope, reglisse noire is still the best anise scent I’ve tried.

Osafume is like some mutant L'Heure Bleue. They have so much in common, yet they are worlds apart! Osafume is an outdoor scent, it needs lots of air and space. If I wear it in the hose, under clothing, it can become sulky and cloying, but if I take it out, it shines and sparkles wonderfully! The anise might be a tad too much for me sometimes, but the rest actually needs it, without the anise the whole thing might be sickly sweet. I love the heliotrope, the vanilla and the musk, together they make a lovely, creamy, soft effect, which the anise makes vibrant and airy. Also it is different smelled close or just wafting around you. It is much more pleasant in smaller doses from a distance, gently humming a tune in the air than up close and personal. All an all a big like, almost love.

OH dear, my nose must really be broken, so many positive reviews and I just don’t get it. At first sniff I get hay, like being dumped in a hay loft and surrounded by hay. Then I get an odd smell that is familiar but was hard for me to place, my first thought was the smell of those little red erasers on the end of pencils but then when I read the reviews here I realized that it is closer to the smell of rubber balloons.I get some underlying anise but I’m totally missing any gardenia, vanilla, or heliotrope. I own both Bas de Soie and L’heure Bleue and see no similarities to this scent. Sigh,this is a big miss for me, not sure if my skin makes it turn weird on me or if my nose is somehow defective but what I smell is nothing like most other reviews here.

I really liked this fragrance. Yes, there were similarities with Reglisse Noir but thats all. I grow heliotrope every year and have done so for over decade. This does not smell like heliotrope. ETRO Heliotrope is the closest to the living fragrance. Heliotrope is sweet, vamillary, gourmand, delicious and very feminine. This is most definitely a sweetish anise, musk based fragrance but its totally unisex, so fellas dont be frightened off! Good sillage and longevity. Another masterpiece from Dr Covey. I will be ordering an fb soon.

Spicy, not too sweet, and a little cool, this is elegant and sprightly at once. The effect is airy and invigorating -- the anise is very prominent (and I would have guessed some kind of pepper or clove note as well). It does not seem like a sweety-sweet vanilla fragrance to me at all (I'm surprised that so many reviewers found it oversweet) and is loaded with personality without feeling heavy-handed. Osafume has great lasting power on the skin for something that seems so volatile!

This is such an unusual scent, in the best way. For me there is no sense of it being floral. A demure anise is woven through a cool, unsweetened vanilla with barely a whisper of magnolia. It strongly reminds me of the smell of a new baby doll's face back in the 70s. And that is a wonderful smell and memory! Loving this for its complexity. It is truly like no other fragrance I've experienced. It's a love for me.

This is a fun, sparkling perfume! It's like eating a luscious dessert while drinking champagne! Sweet, but not cloying. I was prepared to find this one "meh" because anise is not a favorite note of mine, but it is actually appealing to me in this mix. It adds a spiky point to the sweetness. Vanilla and musk add the warmth, and heliotrope the star on top. Lasts all day, and is a really "feel good" scent.

Sweet not sharp spices mixed with powdery florals, vanilla and musk. Not too strong but noticable, not too sharp either as these spices tend to become. It's soft and lovely and sweet. There is something odd in the base I can't quite put my finger on.... may be the line's base in general as there's a sort of sweetness to many of their scents.

Very beautiful, it reminds me of the watermelon gum I chewed as a child. With a sweet anise note and a very powdery, cottony quality. Something in the base notes pushes it toward a more earthy, amber dimension. While seemingly harmless, it's insightful and follows a well-defined path.

black licorice, and slightly vanillac. not a huge fan of licorice so i can't be impartial here, but i think this could be really lovely on the right person!!
